Fabric Type Help
« on: May 17, 2011, 09:17:52 pm »
I'm almost positive that I'm going to be able to complete my Amazon cosplay from the game Diablo II before Kumoricon this year which would be absolutely fabulous. I'm planning on using craft foam to make most of the metal or 'gold', armor pieces, but I have no idea what type of material to use for the 'red' part of the armor.

Here are some reference photos:

I'm going to make the leg and arm armor gold like in the last reference picture, so I don't have to worry about matching it to whatever I make the chest-piece out of -- so that's not an issue.

To me, it looks like it would be a stiffer material, maybe something to make out of the craft foam as well? But I don't know if I would be able to shape it elegantly enough, especially not for the bust area. So I was thinking maybe a knit cotton and make it into a tanktop type item, but I don't think it will have the same effect so... basically I was wondering if there were any bright ideas out there that could help me.

I would go for a stretchy fabric that you can make a bit smaller so it hugs your figure better. And then for the stiffer parts around the 'skirt' area you could sew in some backing so it's not all floppy. Or even glue the fabric to craft foam so it's stiff like the rest of the armor but can still match the upper part of the outfit.

Stiff material will never hug your figure like that unless you get it extremely well tailored down to every exact measurement of your body. Thus, it's better to go with a stretchy fabric. Make sure it's not see through when it's stretched out though. It wouldn't be bad for the stomach area since it seems to show her stomach nicely but I'm sure you don't want your boobs/bra showing to the rest of the world.
