Right now http://yokosonews.com/live/ is live translating Japanese news broadcasts.  Don't know for how long they will keep doing the stream.  They just reported another aftershock.

Also, tsunami warnings for Oregon Coast, possibly hitting at 7AM to 8AM.

こんそめ is so brave. She's the only one that hasn't banged the console open and she's not afraid of the quakes. Skype woke me up half an hour ago only to read how everyone is scared.

One of them says they felt an 8.5.

I was waiting for someone to make a thread about this.

Just got home tonight and caught this on the news.

I'm setting my alarm for 6:30 AM to catch the news again for updates on the tsunami.

Coastline has a Watch. Hawaii has a Warning. Let's hope that doesn't change.

Man, I've been watching it on the news for the past hour or so. It's so incredibly awful. All I can do is pray and hope that the death toll isn't extreme...Reading about all these disasters is really discouraging. I recently just heard that my host family is alright though, so thank god for that! D:

Worse case scenario I'd strap on swim trunks under my clothes, take my foam shield to use as a raft and make for the top of the tallest hill in my town with a tent and emergency supplies on my back.
Then I'd see what I could do to help anyone else out.

But it's got the mountain range to get through first.

You hear that Cascades?! hold the line!!

Ahahahaha, I need to hang around people like you more. <3

I don't have a disaster plan. I live in the ONE little block of town that wasn't obliterated by the previous floods(but it was impossible to get anywhere because of it). If this place floods again, I'm going back to Death Valley. I know my house isn't likely to flood but people are dumb enough to ignore the fact that their strategies failed for Katrina. We don't need another one and the last place that should expect it is the West Coast. I would rather deal with dust devils, firenados and easy big money trucks in the desert than get spammed with so much critical low paying work and then a year of unemployment when people were merely dumb enough to drive through water and are too poor to save their businesses.

From what Japanese tell me, they're in the same boat as I am. This is bad. Very bad. :/

If you want up to the minute coverage I suggest watching Aljazeera's english feed here http://english.aljazeera.net/watch_now/
It's the fastest international news I know of, and as for the Tsunami watch for the coast, last I heard it wont reach us, Hawaii will see some waves but nothing disaster worthy. Also there's only been 8 reported deaths so far, so hopefully most people had it out okay. Not sure on injuires though.

It might downgrade again, so if you live at the coast I'd be prepared but not panicked at this time.
Here's the link to check http://wcatwc.arh.noaa.gov/  and also this site needs a major redesign, it's just ugly to look at.

My mom heard something it'll reach us. Her friend in Astoria, OR was woken up by a NOAA report and called her, so now my mom's on my way to see me here at college since I'm farther inland by a lot then her.
Yay no sleep for me tonight.. Glad I'm mostly done with my finals... But my dorm room is not puffy proof >>;

I'm not sure whether to get a little sleep or get a nocturnal drink like coffee or something.

7:20 AM I heard KATU say was a projected approach time. Somewhere between 1 and 5 ft.

I'm wondering about the effects on the Columbia and Willamette Rivers.

This is insane... I had plans to go to Lincoln City tomorrow as well.
Going to get up early and watch the news. I just can't wrap my head around alarms going off at the beach I always go to and people leaving hotels and camping spots... weird. At least it's the off season and there's not a lot of tourism around this time of year.

Hope the death toll in Japan doesn't climb really high. :/

Btw, has any news station said what caused the earthquake yet?

Same thing that causes all earthquakes, tectonic plates shifting.

And as of now the NHK is reporting 26 dead with a lot of missing persons as well.

I mean, was there specific plates? Like along any major Tectonic Plates?
We were just talking in one of my classes about how one of the major tectonic plates near us is overdue for a large shifting.

Yeah, I'm gonna sleep and get back up as well.

Surf's up...far too high to want to hang ten from.

I'm no surfer, but I'd rather take on figuratively "killer" waves than face this wall of Pacific linebackers.

Looks like something should be coming to the Oregon coast within an hour or two. We'll see.

Regardless of the local consequences, I am surely praying over Japan right now. I'm not normally one for posting prayers, but I feel the circumstances justify it.

May God move over the devastation, and save and comfort those in need, all to the furthering of His kingdom and glory. May His comfort be known and felt by those stricken, may the Spirit of God - who desires that none should die - move and save those caught in the midst of this tribulation.

I have a friend who's on exchange in Japan for now,Hidamari on the forums. This morning we heard news that she's safe and that her town wasn't very affected by the earthquake and that she's safe from the tsunami.

However I have two Japanese girls I hosted for a weekend earlier in the year and they live right outside Tokyo. I've emailed one of them, I'm really really hoping their okay. I'm so scared for them.

"Police said 200 to 300 bodies were found in the northeastern coastal city of Sendai, the city in Miyagi prefecture, or state, closest to the epicenter. Another 137 were confirmed killed, with 531 people missing. Police also said 627 people were injured.

The magnitude-8.9 offshore quake unleashed a 23-foot (seven-meter) tsunami and was followed for hours by more than 50 aftershocks, many of them of more than magnitude 6.0."

My mom went on a wild ride last night x.x She met up with a nearby friend, then they drove to Southbend, then decided to head back and saw all these cars leaving, so they headed back to Southbend and slept in the McDonald's parking lot til they opened. Then went in to eat breakfast- and a lot of people we knew were there too. They haven't given the all clear to go back onto the peninsula yet, but some are heading back. Work, school... everything's closed. They apparently evacuated the whole area, and there's a high surf warning for our little area. Oregon's supposed to get it worse than Washington, but where we live it's pretty much Oregon.

Wait wat? o_o

Sendai? Great, I can expect half my friends in Fukushima to either not come back or have a communication blackout for the better half of a week. Thanks for that Internet. It's bad enough that 10+ of my Skype friends kill themselves every year without any valid reason or warning but now I'm infected with the knowledge that this tsunami could serve as that valid reason that more than half of them look for every morning. Japanese are crazy enough. They don't need more of it.

*poke* People on 2ch are saying this is like WWII. I think it's worse. Japan can't manage to be normal even when it comes to disasters like this one. There are homes in your watery wave of death that are ON FIRE!

Well that's just great. o_O

I'm fairly certain that being spammed with massive elemental death is a pretty awful way to go. Think about it: Moved by unstable Earth, swept away by violent waters, being mangled and burned by debris once meant to protect you and if that doesn't finish you, drowning in a vicious torrent full of roasting garbage. Or if you're my kind of lucky(just because that's how I roll), being electricuted by the power lines that fall nearby when all the garbage and your crippled body finally hit mainland. I don't even want to think about what kind of disease is incubating in that swift moving trash. Oh and the aftershocks are supposed to be 6.0+ for the next hours?

It's bad enough our president sounds like an indecisive tool with headlines like Japan earthquake potentially catastrophic, now I'm going to be hearing this on the news for the next two weeks and how they're going to deal with our national joke called FEMA.

.....

I'm going back to bed. I really don't need to be up on a day like this.
Some people around where I live are being swept into the ocean/ river.
Gnarly. I think if you live anywhere within three miles of the coast it should be mandatory to own a life jacket. If you're anywhere near the ocean and in an area known for disasters like this, you will eventually deal with this kind of OMGWTFBBQ and it will not be pretty.
Oregon's supposed to get it worse than Washington, but where we live it's pretty much Oregon.
This is exactly why I live in Washington. I often think about moving to Portland but then things like this pop up and I start to decide that I'm better off with the crowd of crazies in Olympia.

Just wanted to let any of you who know her, Hidamari (forum name) is ok. She is in Niigata which is central eastern Japan, so she hasn't gotten any tsunami, and the earthquake was smaller there.

Also, I heard that my other friends there are ok, and my Teachers' families are all ok too.

I'm still really worried about them though, I heard there was still more coming.

Yay!!

I know we all know people over there, people we have met on trips, conventions, study buddies ect that we are worried about.

A friend of mine in Hawaii is okay, she said the warning sirens have not stopped and are driving her nuts, but she is safe.

powers that be please keep our friends safe, watch over those gone and their families.
This is the kinda thing that really scares me, how fast it hits you just never know.

I actually don't know anyone over there. Wish I did (but then again, maybe the tension of that kind of uncertainty and worry would be too much). All the same, I'm still keeping everyone in my prayers, though it would be nice to have a personal "investment" - someone to worry over (that's weird, isn't it?).

Spinning off into an extemporaneous tangent for a moment...there are few things I have tried harder than making friends and connections within the Japanese community. Japanese culture and community has always been such a massive passion of mine, I would love to share that with those who have grown in it, exchange experiences and all that a friendship really entails, but I've just never been able to make any lasting connections. Alas...

*cough* Ahem...sorry, back on topic now.

I heard the body count reached 600 by 10am (OR time) on CNN news.

Havent gotten a hole of my friends in Sedai yet, Im hopeing I'll get a call soon from them. Friends in tokyo say theyre fine, but cant find their parents yet, who were on a trip somewhere when it hit.

Astoria and Sea side i heard had it the worst of all the oregon coast cities, and thankfully my friend in Astoria left yesterday for tualatin. I just hope everyone is okay here in the US. Saying i hope everyone is ok in Japan is just a tad naive I think. Of corse they arent fine. They need are help. I wish I could go help them.

I was watching the news with my mom when they reported it. The footage of the Tsunami was awful, there were houses literally just being pushed along by it and you could see cars driving away from the water when they zoomed in. :(

I have two friends in Japan, but I only have the email of one of them. I emailed her yesterday morning and she responded, I was so relieved. But things are still bad, so we keep emailing back and forth.

Some of the stuff she's saying is really sad, I'm so scared for her:
"Japan is destroied...
Japan is not as we know it.
I'm afraid so much.
But I'm very glad your mail!
I hope the thing is better than now."

I saw orbital footage of the earthquake's effects on the ocean; THAT was freaky!  It looked like an Alaska-sized (guessing on that) hurricane had been formed.

I have a sister in Hawai'i; she's fine.  Oahu didn't take that big of a hit.

I've heard that there have even been oceanic effects along some of the coast of Chile.

So apparently a lot of people are saying that the earthquake and tsunami is "karma" for Pearl Harbor. That's incredibly stupid and just plain sick. Yeah, because two atomic bombs wiping out two large cities just isn't enough.

Radiation is bad.

You may think it isn't because of all the weird inventions, designs, social codes, games, art and porn...But it is. ;)
So apparently a lot of people are saying that the earthquake and tsunami is "karma" for Pearl Harbor.
Kick the cub and expect to be slaughtered by the mom...This quake is not some form of divine retribution because Japanese weren't stepping on any toes and even so, they're far more civil about their problems than we are. Any karma they deal with is an issue within their closed social system and deserves to stay there.

Still, this isn't the first a tsunami has been called karma and this logic kills me every time. [content removed]. I don't go picketing the funerals of people that have died of AIDS and I don't expect so much hate speech from the church for each natural disaster that hits every country but ours. I just often wish a big meteor would fly out of the heavens and nuke these idiots for eliminating common decency from this world. Part of me wants to believe there is something so much greater than this world that it realizes that is bull****. No more of that.

The ones in this country that preach their "high moral code" don't have one. They can't handle natural disasters without plunder, theft and killing(you know, everything that makes us human scum). We have no reason to judge other countries that handle this sort of thing so much better than we ever will. Too bad it's never going to f'ing happen. :/

Thanks for that. It's good to know the reactors aren't so huge a concern. I need better maps. If Sendai got it the worst, I know at least three people that don't have a home anymore because they're right there. Two are in Haranomachi and the other is in Miyagi. Screwed and double screwed. At least they were in upper story apartments. >.>'

I'm familiar with the footage I've seen so far but it probably looks so bad right now. The rest of the people I know out there dealing with this are in Chiba, Tsu and Osaka. My geography skill isn't the best for South Japan but something tells me they're better off than the three up North around Sendai(except the one near Shizuoka...She's fine but the house is doomed). She wants my help but I'm not sure what I can do right now. Some time yesterday evening one guy called me telling me he was just getting off work and he was asking if I'm okay. I guess my pronunciation still makes a few of them a bit stupid since I've talked to them for years and they still don't believe I'm American but as many times as I tell them I'm in America they never believe me. This is what they have. A fragile love and a very strong fear that I only wish I had.

The concern is weird to me and I'm really surprised that anyone's cell managed to reach me. From what I understand all the lines are emergency only. Skype was the only medium that got through to me yesterday: Twice. Usually I'm getting spammed with calls at every hour of the day from Japan but I realized something afterwards that bothers me: During the entire day one guy managed to call me to ask if I was okay. I imagine several others made that call and no one answered.

Maybe this isn't as bad as I thought but worse in ways that I've forgotten about.

I've merged the two earthquake threads into one.

I was wondering if someone was going to do that...

Here's some quotes from an article I just found:

"Kyodo, the Japanese news agency, reported that 2,000 bodies washed up on two shorelines in Miyagi."

"While the official death toll rose to nearly 1,900, the discovery of the washed-up bodies and other reports of deaths suggest the true number is much higher. In Miyagi, the police chief has said 10,000 people are estimated to have died in his province alone."

"The pulverized coast has been hit by hundreds of aftershocks since Friday, the latest one a 6.2 magnitude quake that was followed by a new tsunami scare Monday."

"According to public broadcaster NHK, some 430,000 people are living in emergency shelters or with relatives. Another 24,000 people are stranded, it said. "

The full article can be found here: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/ap_on_bi_ge/as_japan_earthquake

Geez, I'm all stirred up now. Keep hearing about how all these Americans are so afraid, but no one knows anything about radiation. They just know they know, not know the truth. blargle.

I hope my cousins wife's family are all ok. She is from Okinawa, so I bet anyone still there is doing well. I just don't know if anyone moved. We're such a close family, eh?

Not to mention the bible thumping teeny bopper who and thousands like her were praying for God to show atheists around the world He exists, and the He is the correct God. D.B.

If you are afraid of radiation, stay away from Denver, and granite counter tops. They are more radioactive than any fallout we will get. Also never get any X-rays for anything, teeth, chest. Never fly in an airplane!

You act as if you never eat any uranium. It's only the second most common metal in the earth's crust. About 20 ppm.

Not to mention the bible thumping teeny bopper who and thousands like her were praying for God to show atheists around the world He exists, and the He is the correct God. D.B.

Not that this is the place for it, but for just a moment let's analyze the mindset that would pray such a thing and try to figure out why, in fact, that would be so repugnant.

If someone believes that there is one God and that we are all in need of Him, and if that person also believes that that God desires us all to know Him and become complete in Him, and if that person believes that - because this God desires to save us eternally - He will make even the worst event work to an ultimate good... if all these things are the case, why are you opposed to their prayers? The prayer of someone with this mindset is not so that people see and admit that they were wrong. It is not just to be recognized and given a pat on the back. These prayers are because the person praying genuinely cares for the fate of these human lives. From someone who believes that a life lost divided from God will lead to eternal death, are these prayers for understanding and salvation not deserving of your respect?

I know, speaking for myself, I pray that God would use this opportunity to the furthering of His kingdom, meaning that, yes indeed, more eyes would be opened to His presence and reality. I do not do this to be right, or to prove that I am "better" or something like that. It is simply applying what I have come to know as the truth, and wishing for no lives to be lost in vain.

I just think there is more to these prayers of salvation than you may be acknowledging.

But anyway, like I said...this isn't the place for it.

I noticed something interesting about Japan, disaster, and religion.  During WWII most of the Japanese people of Christian faith were considered to be American sympathizers.  They were rounded up, placed in camps and forced to work in factories.  Where?  Why Nagasaki of course!  We blew away almost every Christian in Japan with our bomb.  In fact the epicenter of the explosion was about a block away from the largest cathedral in Japan.

In other news the Catholic Bishop of Sendai currently oversees the four northern prefectures of Miyagi, Fukushima, Iwate and Aomori, serving 11,152 Catholics in 56 parishes. Mototerakoji, the Cathedral of the diocese, is located a few blocks north of Sendai Station.

Hmm..  Is someone telling us something?   :-\

^ Going with that in mind, I'm surprised that the Westboro Baptist Church isn't calling out against the "evil of Japan" and "divine punishment to the heathens" that their probably thinking about right now.  (Unless what happened here in Vancouver has caused them to be silent).

So, apparently, the quake has shifted the earth's axis & stuff.

I guess what she said was no worse than Jerry Falwell, or was it Pat Robertson who said 9/11 was God's punishment for America allowing homosexuals.

And no one ever gets in a snit over wearing clothes of mixed fibers, which is also one of God's commandments.

Maybe God needed a bunch of Japanese Catholics in a hurry up in heaven???

I got an email from my cousin in Hawaii, his mom's family is okay. They are in Okinawa and Tokyo, not up near Sendai.

Anyone look to see if sales of Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 went up this week? I think everyone who has seen that series, thought of it soon after hearing about the quake, and how strong it was.

I hear that the kind of Big One we are to have here in Oregon, will be of a similar strength. At least that is how strong the one 300 years ago was.

Something I thought to share is Operation Tomodashi, the US military's relief effort for the affected areas.

But what was stood out to me in particular is that even 2ch, which could be considered the Japanese equivalent of 4chan, is deeply moved by the effort of of the US military from what I read.

I wonder if they are more amazed that we actually do anything. I doubt they get to see much of what we do over there. As our basic mission is to protect Japan, not monkey with Japan.

Fondly remembering the protesters in front of Club Alliance in Yokusuka, way back when. There was always a small band of protesters in front every night I had liberty, and went out the main gate. I have no idea what they were protesting. All I knew of Japanese back then was to answer the phone and go Hi! Hi! Hi! like the locals. lol

I am more amazed that we actually do anything.

I just got a message from Yaoicon that the art auctions have managed to donate $1500 so far. It sounds a bit weak coming from them but every bit helps. I'm so glad that this isn't like Katrina. It's not some crappy disaster like New Zealand, Haiti or Katrina at all. These people dealt with numerous deadly quakes, then almost immediately, a tsunami and threat of nuclear disaster. Despite all this, you don't have senseless nutjobs shooting people over ipods, bikes and sneakers. These are people that no longer have homes and are swimming in a sea of dead bodies. They're quickly being overwhelmed by a dwindling supply of clean food and water. I had to turn off the news after hearing about this for a straight week because the news reporters sound so calloused. It's obvious that they don't care so why are they reporting it?

NHK and skype people do a better job describing what's going on anyway. I woke up to reading this first thing today:

[5:18:33 PM] なかっくす@Fkushima 2Million says: It is in 60Km west from the first nuclear power plant in Fukushima now.
[5:19:42 PM] なかっくす@Fkushima 2Million says: Rain that contains the radioactive substance is falling.

Wouldn't it be better to cram these choppers full of as many people as they can hold and fly them to a place that isn't underwater and partially radioactive? Just a thought. Unlike the disgust that filled me with the Katrina and Haiti disasters, I think I should actually donate for this one.

Again, unrelated, but what disgusted you about those disasters? Just curious.

For me it was Karina; school buses underwater, police running away, shooting at the rescuers, taking away citizens guns, FEMA cutting down communications antennas of local emergency services.
Haiti, the lack of help the internatoinal community gave, mainly France, but our own response was underwhelming.

The news generally disgusts me. Not what happened, but how journalists inject their own agenda. Do you know now what a microsievert is?

I hope we get report on how things are progressing, instead of no new at all, except bad stuff.

Okay, that's what I was curious about. I assume DaemonForce meant the same, that the response to the disasters was disgusting. It almost sounded like in his eyes those disasters were disgusting in and of themselves, inferior or undeserving of help or something. I think I just misunderstood the meaning of certain words in this context.

****** *** ****** ** *** ****** ********* ** *** ***** ****** ******* ********* ********* ***** **** **** ******  I'll state the obvious for good measure:

Katrina was the worst natural disaster to hit America in a long time and it continues to devastate American budgets and jobs by infecting my tax forms with data that shouldn't be there and giving priority to those that don't seriously need our help anymore. It's been years. The victims have either recovered or died. Period. The way media tried to cover up how poorly the disaster was handled and how awful the situation became after mediocre help efforts caused it to be far worse than it should have ever been and made an even bigger mess when the first solution attempts were applied. The ranks among the dead were either ones that stood the course or couldn't afford to flee. Large segments of evacuees resisted efforts to get jobs and unchain themselves from our government dependency. It reached a point where they sued to force taxpayers to keep paying for their sloth and greed.

I like how we keep killing the good people and then turn around and give a free ride to every degenerate in this country. Ted Williams being the latest example of this stupid behavior. We gave free room, board and cable to anyone with a complete lack of responsibility and we wonder what's wrong with our budget these days.

There were constant lies, cover-ups and few genuine concerns over Katrina and Haiti. Guess how this is going to go with Japan? It was hard enough to describe the damage done to the country but the political drama is going to find a way to permanently blow this completely out of proportion for weeks to come. This is why I'm going to ignore the news until everyone finally shuts up about this. Japan is no stranger to the kind of damage a tsunami does to their country. They're the ones that named the damn thing. Japanese on Skype have been calling me every day to describe the situation but right now it seems that the quake, tsunami and being homeless are the least of their concerns. I keep hearing and reading more about nuclear disaster than anything. They're definitely more focused than we'll ever be. It makes me sad.
Do you know now what a microsievert is?
I know enough to stay away from the toxic levels.
I assume DaemonForce meant the same, that the response to the disasters was disgusting.
No. Let me make this as painfully clear as I can: The entire thing from start to finish completely disgusts me. The disaster, lack of preparation/action, how it was reported, how it was filmed, how much fraud was involved in the whole rescue plan...I don't want to think about it right now though. You know I have enough hate in my system.
It almost sounded like in his eyes those disasters were disgusting in and of themselves, inferior or undeserving of help or something.
Actually now that you mention it, there were some people that were undeserving of our help. ***** ****** ******** of the fraud that went on 5+ months after the initial rescue plan but even if I were given several months of free stays at 5 star hotels that like to charge $450/night I would still look for a job rather than suck on the treasury the entire time. Sometimes there's a limit to the insanity I can handle and that's pretty much the breaking point for me.

Haiti ... but our own response was underwhelming.

Don't you mean overwhelming?  It seemed like every celebrity and half of the South-based politicians were involved in some sort of donation-related news, be it concerts, food bank drives, personal donations, etc.

I personally haven't heard much regarding celebrity/politician aid for Japan, except for Justin Timberlake and someone-else-whom-I've-forgotten.  (This may be mainly because I've been without TV for almost 2 months now, so I don't watch the news as much).

I read she did that for Haiti, but there was no mention of her doing this for Japan.

Read a Yahoo article, that was about how the Japanese love for bureaucracy, and licenses has really slowed down any aid responses. Doctors can't help, as they don't have Japanese medical licenses, drugs can't come in country, as not all have been authorized by authorities, etc. etc.etc.

On the bright side, the yakuza have been shipping gas and other things to the area, so that helps.

Where are all the student council presidents when you need them?

Oh yeah, the other celebrity that I couldn't remember was Ichiro Suzuki.  He donated 100 million yen (around 1.25 million dollars).

It takes such a strong temper...One even greater than mine(and believe me, mine will eat you).
The result?
In Japan: Distrust, worry and peaceful unrest
In America: ...Remember the WTO?

That would piss me off so bad if I were dealing with that situation. If everyone in my area had to deal with one disaster after another and the governing body was stepping in to police any outside help from reaching because they're not "licensed" to help or some equally ambiguous pointless crap...That would be the breaking point and that would more than likely start riots. The streets would run red. Either way you know it has nothing to do with licenses. It's just their every day racism in a box.

I pray for this wall of stupid to be crushed by the simple value for others. Some people are just way too stubborn and the worst are always in an important office trying to kill every voice of reason.
On the bright side, the yakuza have been shipping gas and other things to the area, so that helps.
Win!

I guess that's why breaking all the rules is such a popular plot line in anime and manga, eh? Americans just seem to think you always break the rules somewhere along the line. lol

Thanks for the confirm Jaz. Is it still morning sickness in America Jaz?

I suspect it is because in Japan, authority gets respect for its own stake.  Since this can quite confining, plots lines will have them being forced to break the rules with a lot of drama.
In the United States, authority gets distrust for its own stake.  So breaking the rules when it 'makes sense' can be done with little thought or drama.

If you go a little deeper than that, I think other interesting factors show up. For example, back in the day, you did something outside the rules in Japan, you got your head chopped off. And back in the day of the US, there were no rules. Adn if you lived out west, who was going to be able to enforce them?

And later, there was a time when someone from the US government had a lot of clout, and was trusted. If they weren't there would have been a lot worse farming conditions that what ended up being down south. Everyone would have planted cotton every year, even if yields kept falling, as that was the only way to make money. Instead of planting legumes some years.

It wasn't until my life time, I think Watergate and Viet Nam were the breaking points, where the government lost the unblinking trust of the people. That and the phrase good enough for government work became a catch all phrase for a lousy over budget job.

I think in Japan you probably still have class representatives that are much like what they are often depicted as in anime. Do we have anyone like that here? I think there was two back in the public school I attended. More in the private school, but not by much.

Back in school I was that representative. All four years. I did a better job than most but it still sucked.

None of my friends in Japan went through anything similar so I have no way to compare.

Anyone notice the new Aflac commercial don't have sound?  Gilbert Gottfried, the voice of the duck made a lot of tastless jokes about the Tsunami.

Aflac does a lot of business in Japan

Gilbert Gottfried was then fired.

Anyone want to try out for the new duck voice?
