Would anyone be interested in doing a homestuck cosplay group? I want to do a God-Tier John, but if there are more people gearing towards the trolls, I could probably do a Karkat/Sollux to help complete a group :U

Homestuck is basically a little bit of every genre you can think of. A lot of it is silly, but a lot of it can be rather serious too. In its most basic form, it can be described as four kids playing a game that permanently alters their lives while they have to fight to beat the system and not die in the process (anything more than that would be spoiling it c:) There are a lot of amazing characters along the way, and the fan following is immense. While it is very long, it's an awesome tale. I would read to about "WV; Ascend" (the end of act 2) before deciding if you like it or not

The story starts on page 1901 so all you have to do is subtract 1900 from the url to get your page, although after you hit the thousand mark it'll be easier to say 2901 instead of 1000. More people will know what you're talking about too.

I can't speak much for the skin, but paper mache seems to be the most popular route for horns. From there, you could just mount them on a headband. Of course, that would only work for the smaller horns. If you do really big ones like Gamzee's or Tavros's, you might have to find something a bit sturdier.

Well I'v been looking at this stuff like crazy, so I can help! For the skin most people use Bill Nye paint, quite a few costume stores sell it. Here's the most B.A. skin tutorial you'll probably ever find.

For the horns many people use Model Magic or Paper Clay. Sculpy is rather heavy, especially for horns or larger things. For Karkat or Terezi it's fine. For Gamzee or Eridan, not so much. If you are doing one with bigger horns then it's easier and makes them lighter if you:
A) Carve them out of foam and then cover in MM(Model Magic) or PM(Paper Clay)
or
B) (Which I like better, especially for Gam or Tav) Get some thickish wire and make a base out of them like

Then cover them with making tape and (if you want to) Paper Mache.
Then cover them with MM or PC and let dry. Since it will probably be a bit bumpy, sand it down and paint it. Acrylics work best. Then make sure to seal, this will give it its shine and keep it mostly from cracking.

I am however going to try to do something different for my Tav horns because I have a interesting mounting system in mind. I'm going to follow B for the most part but them I'm going to fill them with expanding foam.To mount them I'm going to get a metal headband and drill holes where I am going to put the horns. I then am going to put those screw holders that are clear and about a billion come with everything for IKEA into Tav's horns, probally near the top for better support and then I'm going to glue them in. I'm then going to put screws through the holes in the headband, stick the screws through the mesh of my wig and screw on my horns! That way I won't ruin the wig and the horns won't really move at all.

Gosh I know that was the longest this ever on the Kcon fourms. Oh and you can totally put me down for Sollux and Tav is like a 75%. Oh and Nepeta is a definite too, and KarKitty is a high possibility.

Edit: Before painting and after sanding it's a good idea to add something like gesso because MM can crack, you can paint over this stuff too so the paint will go on smoothly. :33

Woah, two of my bros have already posted here.

On the first day I'm doing to be Dave (the first one, t-shirt Dave), with a John (twistedbiskit), a Jade (BlueElyssa), and a Bro. This one is my closest to being complete. I only need to trim the wig. I don't know about props yet. Because it's the first Dave, none of his swords or his turn tables will really be canon to make. I don't want to make a Smuppet (although I considered it, I chickened out because they're super creepy and I didn't want my family thinking I was making some weird sex toy), and Lil Cal is too difficult for me to tackle.
My only problem with this cosplay is I'm really torn between wearing regular aviators, or wearing this heart shaped sunglasses I have. I know I shouldn't really, but... they're just so... ironic, and beautiful. I just want to wear them everywhere and feel like a beautiful ironic princess.
Opinions?

On the second day I'll be Karkat, doing a couple cosplay with my Terezi (BlueElyssa). This one's pretty close to being complete too. I'll probably pull my act together and iron on his sign onto my black turtle neck tomorrow. Besides that, I just need to decide which pair of gray jeans I want to wear, and possibly remake my horns. (Make my first pair with oven bake clay. They're not awful, but they're not great. ) I need to decide whether or not I want to use a wig or my own hair for Karkat. I have a wig that would work, but my hair is thicker so it might be better for his hair. But I'm sort of dying to shave the sides of my head, and it'd be cool if I didn't have to wait until after Kumoricon to do it.
I don't know about props for this cosplay yet. The Clawsickles would be super cool, but I'll probably end up just going with his regular sickles, since they'll be a million times easier to make.
My other friend will probably be a Karkat too, and we're going to be Past Karkat vs. Future Karkat all over the place. It's great, because I get to be Future Karkat, since I'm taller (even though she's older, hehehe).
Haha, ****, it's going to be ridiculous. My Terezi is going to be like a foot shorter than me.

And the third day I'll be Gamzee! I'm super excited to be Gamz. Lyric (BlueElyssa) is going to be Tavros, and I'm just- aaaaah! So excited! It's great because my voice will probably be broken from yelling as Karkat. I'm so excited, man! Dave and Karkat are going to be great, but its going to be really easy to act in character as Gamzee. I need to paint my pants and iron-on my sign, but hopefully I'll do that tomorrow! (I'm super nervous, aaah! I've never used the iron-on transfers before.)
As for props, I'll have slime pie, Faygo (and a **** ton of empty Faygo bottles), and a horn. If I get my juggling act together, I'll be able to juggle for people too. (My friend has a unicycle. Too bad that thing is a BEAST to ride, because it'd be pretty killer to be able to ride it at K-con.)
My friend who's going to be Karkat when I'm Karkat might be Karkat again on the third day, so I'll be able to be all, "Best friiiieeeend" all over her. And it'll be accurate because I'm kind of tall and she's kind of short!

I also once talked to this Protagonist (from Baroque, it's a game, I sort of doubt anyone here has played it since it's not really popular, but it's a great game) who made his metal boots out of regular old junk stuff. "I used cut-up plastic bottles and spray painted them. To hold them together: brass fasteners. Lol, I'm really proud of what came out of finding old junk that looks like it could be used as a metal substitute.", so you could probably use the same technique for Vriska's arm. Possibly on a base of black tight-material.
I'd heard of people making her arm out of actual metal too. Pretty badass.

But I haven't made anything like that myself, so I might not be the best person to be handing out advice, asdfghjkl

Yep, that'd be me! I'm a local to Vancouver, I know the area where the con is like the back of my hand. I suppose I am going to coordinate, then. It seems like everyone has different days they're planning to do their cosplays.

Hmmmm... That would work. I've found a method that I will hopefully get to use so that I don't have to have a headband showing.
But I'll definitely use this as a backup method if I run out of time.

Wow, a bunch of my friends already posted on this thread I guess. I'll be pre-injury Vriska for at least two of the days. I was thinking about being Japan one of the days again this year to match my friend who'll be Hungary, but now I'm not sure if I still will. I'll be hanging with WorldToast and twistedbiskit and BlueElyssa as well as some of our other friends.

For makeup, I bought my Ben Nye from a costume store and they recommended this spray stuff to me, it's like a sealer but it goes on your skin before the makeup to protect you from it. Probably a good idea, so I thought I'd spread the word a little bit.

AAAAAA my Vriska's finally done yayayay (okay except for the robo-arm but I'm finishing that tomorrow...)

Also, for makeup, I used Ben Nye. They have it at Lippman Party Store on Water and Yamhill in Portland. (it's in a kind of shitty area, over by Omsi. But it's a great store.) I got two grey powders (I couldn't decide between the two so I got both), a liquidy thing to mix the powders in to make a liquidy cream kind of thing, and a black cream for highlights like knuckles and under the eyes and such. And then a spray stuff to keep it on. From when I tried it, it looked really good and stayed on for quite a while. Just mix the powders in with the liquid **** and use a paintbrush or something to put it on your face. xD It wasn't difficult at all.

Also I'm dragging quite a few friends along who're going as Eridan, two or three Johns, and Rose. So, yay. Looks like we're gonna have a pretty big group?

Also yeah, where/when's (I know it's the first day, but what time?) this photoshoot gonna happen? xD

My Dave cosplay is so boring in comparison to my Karkat and Gamzee cosplays.

You know, having a photoshoot each day isn't actually impossible. Just have a designated location, and time (probably 4:13, this is Homestuck, after-all), and that way it's convenient for everyone. You can show up to whatever photoshoots you can make it to, and whoever didn't hear about the photoshoot on say, Saturday, can still make it to the one on Sunday.

Also, while having a shoot every day would be the boss, it would look awkward. I think Saturday would be a good day for an official shoot, and we'll meet up on other days and just hang out. We can all up and chill together and bask in our own new friendships.

I apologize about being so late to this guys! So, going with what the general consensus seems to be on this..
The photo shoot will take place at 4:13 on the first day, just outside the front of the Hilton in Esther Short park, by the giant fish tower

I'm sorry to be anyone who won't be able to make it that day, but I will bring my camera the other two days for anyone who misses it c:
Bringing your own camera is both encouraged and suggested in case you would like to keep these memories with your own device, or you just think you could get some cool shots!
From what I hear from this thread, and from external sources, there will be a LOT of people in attendance for this, including those not involved in the forums. If you see any hamsteak cosplayers running around, let them know the details of the shoot just in case c:

That was amazing, guys c: At last count, about 60-some people ended up coming to the photo shoot. I'm really glad that this all came together. Thank you to everyone involved either with posing, or the actual photography.

I will be uploading the photos from the shoot (I took somewhere around 200, but I'll only keep 30~50 of those) to a number of different sources such as deviantArt, tumblr, and imgur. If any of you have any concerns about being uploaded, please message me as soon as you can, and I will edit you out c:

There will be more meet-ups the following days, which I'm sure you guys can organize, but no more official photoshoots such as that.

I hope you all have a fantastic con, and I hope to see more of all of you in the coming two days

Sorry to say this guys, but the homestuck fanbase was so annoying that I didn't even put on my John. Everyone I saw dressed up from it were either annoying, rude, or just a stereotypical weeaboo... but I'm sure there were some really cool people, I probably managed to just avoid all of them. I'll probably bring him again next year, but everyone was so awful, I think I don't want to be a part of the community.
