You know what grinds my gears? That people still call Kilts "skirts"

You know what grinds my gears?  The basketball "world" calling the Boston Celtics the "Seltics" instead of the "Keltics."

You know what really, really grinds my gears?

People who try to take over other people's ideas. If I plan something then it is my effing idea. I am the one in charge, not you. So don't come prancing in changing all my ideas because you think it would be better that way. I do things certain ways for an effing reason and it is usually a damn good reason so step off. If you want to do your ideas, make your own things. I know my plans for the whole thing and I don't really need your help in planning something that is already fully planned out.

YKWGMG? That I am utterly useless the next day if I stay up past the tipping point, which seems to be around 2:30 am. I had a ton I wanted to do today, but silly me, went to an anime night & a party before Rocky Horror last night thus didn't start making dinner until 2 am thus was up til 4 am....Lesson learned...not a good idea.

You know what grinds me gears?  When I person makes plans with you months and months in advance, you talk about it all the time, and then suddenly less then a week before the big event they bail and leave you hanging, completely screwed, and without a ride.

What grinds my gears this morning, was that the stupid cheap modem supplied by my DSL provider, always seems to have trouble after my wife is in bed. Then I either have to troubleshoot the problem in the dark, or wait until morning. But it's still a cheap modem that is gonig to do this from now until forever.
Have Fun

YKWGMG? Getting passive aggressive mixed messages from someone who simply feels I haven't given him enough attention lately, messages which include the words "goodbye forever" followed immediately by "i love you".

Yikes.  Sorry to hear that.  D:  I can be a bit of a butt when I feel like I haven't gotten enough attention from a significant other, but I've never said anything like that.  I hope everything works out. =(

Thanks, everyone! (I had actually called the person Friday. We are talking about only a two-day lag in contact, here!)

YKWGMG? Waking up with sore lower back/rear/hips from scrubbing moss off my pal's driveway.I really need the $ from my under-the-table gardening (etc.) job, but it renders my body so sore that I can't focus as comfortably on the other things I need to do.

YKWGMG? Lately, Apple.

I've been a Mac person for two decades because of my perception that the Mac OS is a lot less intrusive than Windows. (I suspect that's why most of us stick with it, despite the fact that the boxes are considerably more expensive.) So what did they start doing several months ago? Demanding that I re-install Safari, poxy ad-ridden crashprone piece of app that it is, otherwise they wouldn't let me use the iTunes store. Okay, fine, whatever. I didn't buy there for the most part anyway, because they rarely have the stuff I want.

So what do they do with the latest update? Start demanding that I re-install Safari every time I click a song. What the #3!!? It took most of an hour of experimenting to figure out how to make it stop. (It involved disabling the iTunes store entirely.) I would've had to switch music software and eventually needed to buy a new MP3 player if I hadn't found the setting, because it was pretty much unusable.

Is mandatory browser "market share" really worth pissing off your core customers, guys?

@ random, wow, how horrible. Makes me glad I never accepted any of the "upgrades" iTunes (et. al) kept offering me. <--the word scares me after watching the Cybermen on Doctor Who ;)

You know what grinds my gears? <--spelled out to honor the acronymophobic ;)
Sniffles. They can be inconvenient and socially awkward, and make me sound like I'm about to weep, even when I'm happy albeit I did not get much sleep. On the plus side, they make me think of Snuffaluffagus, which when I was a kid was Big Bird saying "snuggle-up with us".

Geez, I remember using an HP-41C calculator in engineering school in the 1980s, then the last HP calculator I remember using was an HP-32.
That got stolen by a coworker about 2 jobs ago.

I don't think I could spend a whole weekend getting excited over Hewlett-Packard, though.

I play a shaman in my group's D&D game on the weekends, and I'm always having to replenish the party's HP. I wonder if it's anything like that?

(The games can get pretty exciting... at least until the rogue starts searching every square inch of the floor for traps. That kinda grinds my gears.)

YKWGMG? Attempting at trying to do good on an English essay worth my entire grade still knowing I'm going to do bad because I still think my thesis is extremely weak, yet I continue to write when I have NO IDEA what I'm doing anymore...points for effort, I think not. That'd be cool, though T^T

I learned programming (also in BASIC, then FORTRAN) on a DEC PDP-1170:

No screens - ASR 33 teletype consoles, bay-beee. Already old back then!
whak-whak-whak-whak-whak-whak-whak-whak-BING
whak-whak-whak-whak-whak-BING
whak-whak-whak-whak-whak-whak-whak-whak-whak-whak-BING

BTW, that looks like a DECwriter console on the very left edge of the photo.

YES - Structured Programming was way too confining. If I run out of line numbers, just GOSUB to some 40-acre backlot of memory, work things out over there, and come back when you're ready with your answer.

And ctrl-G {that's ASCII(7) } to ring the bell in the teletype on command!
Is was SO much better than CARD-READING computers our PARENTS had to use.

Who's up for an HK-themed party? :-D

Somewhere there is a comedy sketch waiting to be written in which "4-Chan" is misheard as "FORTRAN" by a teen's parent, who then innocently waxes nostalgic about coding in terms that sound to the appalled teen like innuendo. ;-) As for old-school, I got through Honors termpapers on a Smith-Corona PWP-6. Basically an electric typewriter with a 1-line memory. So you could word-process via scrolling, but only for 1 line, and only if you hadn't hit enter to print that line yet. So YKWGMG? I'd still use it, but my over-cleaning ex threw out its power cord pack, and I have no clue whether / where I can find another.

BACK ON TOPIC - Too Literally: YKWGMG: Old-style manual transmissions with no synchronizing rings. You have to know how to double-clutch. 25 years ago I could do it, but I'd probably GRIND GEARS today if I had to drive one of those 'legacy' beasts...

@Rem: hilarious about 4-chan/4/ or 4-chan/77/ maybe...

The last Smith Corona I saw was a .30cal M1 Garand style rifle at a collectors' event.
Smith Corona switched to making rifles in WW2.

Your story about the one-line memory reminds me of the Linotype machines (one 'line of type') using and recycling babbitt metal, or other low-temp bismuth-lead alloys to cast and print lines of newspaper copy...

YKWGMG? Knowing that there is stuff to do, I'm just don't have the energy or willpower for it. (^_~)

(I tend to grind my own gears that way.)

YKWGMG?  Trying to change gears on my rear derailleur while biking up Terwilliger.  My freewheel cassette really takes a beating from that hill...and that's the easy route!

YKWGMG? How much I miss when I am only online via my phone. Only just now did I see that epic old monster computer pic; thanks, Guy!

^ Actually, I do.  There's nothing wrong with making sure that your sentence is saying something that makes sense.  It would be nice if people would make a better attempt at typing, ya know?
I think I type very well but everyone makes mistakes sometimes. It grinds my gears like crazy when someone corrects stupid things, it's like them just going "I'M BETTER THAN YOU HAHA".
