[Gryffinclaw Princess]

I must regrettably close this panel for 2011.
I have asked for this Panel to be pulled and I have received conformation for my request.
I apologize for getting anyone's hopes up or anything but things just are not working.
I will be working over the course of the year on a way to better this panel so it will work next year.
There will be changes and things worked out so look forward to next year if you are still interested.


This is the KumoriCon version of Puttin on the Ritz.
For those of you who don't know, Puttin on the Ritz is a drag show beauty pageant.
So, this would be done as a crossplay pageant! (Men crossplaying as women.)

Categories:
Back Stage Interview Contestants will be interviewed before the show by the judges.
On-Stage Interview Two on-stage questions will be asked. One from the interview earlier, one from a fishbowl.
Talent Contestants will preform something they are 'good' at.
Swimwear Contestants will show their health/fitness and self confidence.
Formal Contestants will wear a fancy attire to show their beauty.

FYI: When we announce the winners you may pick the outfit you are wearing! Best bet would be a default/their original outfit or your formal attire.

3 Extra Minutes!!



First: Rules of Event!
- Swimwear must follow BOTH male AND female dress code for con. (Nothing 'nasty' shows.)
- Do not pressure your competitors into your fads. (We all know Reppy shaves but you don't have to.)
- This will rated PG-13 so please keep things pleasant.
- You may have up to one onstage helper for your talent, they must be in all black, and they can not speak.

Second: What I need!
- I need listed contestants to confirm they are interested!
- Pictures of contestants outfits! (Interview, Talent, Swimwear & Formal)
- A script or video or your talent! (We can also do a Skype conference call if need be)
- Two more guest performers! (Suggest to me or have them post here.)
- Photographers! We need evidence of this amazing event!


Third: My Questions
- Song requests?


Fourth: Answers
- Time limit for each event is unknown until we have our final number of contestants. (Current estimates are posted above.)
- I have requested a one hour slot.
- Backstage Interview will be done before the pageant starts.
- Between each event we will have guest performers so you have time to change.


Fifth: Guests
- The two slots left are: After Interview and After Formal/During Talley.
- Quick set ups only! They won't have a lot of time and they are only here as fillers for you guys.
- They will have up to three minutes (one song) to perform so you are not rushed.
- Final slot will have five minutes!
- I will be placing them where I believe they fit best.


Sixth: Donations!
- If anyone wishes to donate anything for prizes that is wonderful! (This includes art, collectibles, costumes, coupons to your shop, ANYTHING!)
- If not all donations are given out, they will be kept for later years.
- You can donate your assistance in making anything! (Sashes, Umbrellas, Gift Baskets)
- Monetary donations will go to paying for supplies (Sashes, Umbrellas, Baskets, et cetera)


Seventh: Winners/Prizes
- Miss Kumoricon will be given a Sash, Umbrella (designed to match that year), and something else.
- Runner Up will receive a Sash and something else.
- Miss Congeniality will receive a Sash and something else.
- The "something else" is being voted on currently. :3

All outfits will be pre-approved by me and I will take pictures of them all in case any staff member has questions before the show starts.
Also, this will save my ass if the contestants decide to change anything after I approve the outfit and end up getting us in trouble.

Supposedly, they are not allowed to change anything after I approve it in person and anyone who does will become ineligible for the title. And I will have them sign a contract that keeps me out of trouble if they violate any con rules on their own doing.

It is male to female and what I was saying was that along with their lower half having to be covered, they have to fully cover their 'boobs' as well to have the outfit be acceptable.
Trust me...I don't want to see any single bit of their groin area. How big they are should forever remain an unknown mystery to me. D:
But swimwear isn't always a two piece or school suit. Some girls wear shorts swimming or long shirts. There is also the more sporty side with body suits and the like.

If this portion does become too complicated for the contestants, it can easily be changed into Sports Wear or Summer Dress. ^^

Seems like fun. I second substituting something for swimsuit for the aforementioned reasons. My question: Will the individuals be answering as they, outside of character, would answer the questions? Or will they be in persona the entire time, answering as, for example, Chii would?

Having spent KC 2004 crossplaying Tuxedo Kamen, I'd also love to see the FTM crossplay parallel of this event.

Individuals will be answering as if they are their character. ^^ The point is that they are like Drag Queens. They are men pretending to be women. But in this case, they are pretending to be specific women.



Another thing I would like to have:
"Companies" of the forums supporting our contestants!
For example, we would have a Miss Spoon Castle, Miss Pocky Club, Miss Fun Size, et cetera!

The winner of the pageant will get a sash, crown, and (Hopefully I can find one) a case of ramune.
The winning support group will also get some type of recognition/prize. I just can't think of anything right now.



Swimwear
Take into account that this says swimwear, not swimsuit!
Contestants would not be required to be in a bikini or one piece!
They can wear wet suits, a bikini with a wrap, a long, baggy shirt, shorts with a bikini top/one piece. There are many choices that can be made for this!

If the contestants cannot find something to wear or do not feel comfortable then this category will be changed to Sports Wear or Summer Dress.

Ackbar is probably best known for his "It's a trap!" line in Return of the Jedi - if you click on his pic in the original post, there's a link to that scene.

In some quarters, "trap" is slang for a guy who very convincingly looks like a girl. This almost certainly came about from attributing Ackbar's "It's a trap!" line to someone who belatedly finds out that the girl they're attracted to isn't a girl.

There's ways around it.  One is a gaff, another requires a trick that I learned from a member of Portland's drag queen court.

Yeah, I know.  In fact, I've been contemplating what to do for a talent...  I've been thinking about singing, but only if I take some sort of lessons, and if I can find an instrumental piece for a song that'd be good or funny for Lina to do.  A dance of some sort is another thing I've been thinking, mainly since I got lots of love for my Mikuru dance in '09.

Doing both would be too difficult and expensive for me since I have to buy the things for the winner out of my own money. I can make the sash but I still have to buy the cloth.

Plus, pageants are time consuming. Mine took two hours for ten girls and we only had 90 seconds for talent. We barely ever spent any time on stage as it was mostly fillers for us to get changed.

Now, there is no way this will be two hours but Im just giving you an example. This will probably be 30min to an hour easy. So two pageants could easily be more than two hours depending on how fast people can change.

This leads me to realizing I need to get filler people. Maybe last years kareoke winner could sing for us...
I should be able to find a filler for every time you guys need to change. I would just need you guys to tell me change times. So like...I would need you guys to time yourselves on how fast you change without being rushed or breaking something so I can find out how long I need fillers for.

His outfit is something like this. It's the best shot I could find. The shirt is sometimes closed. And then the headphones would depend on who you are with. Their butterfly wings always match the color of the other person's hair.

First: Here is the main post put into the important aspects.

• So, this would be done as a crossplay pageant! (Men crossplaying as women.)
• Categories:
  Back Stage Interview Contestants will be interviewed before the show by the judges.
  On-Stage Interview Two on-stage questions will be asked. One from the interview earlier, one from a fishbowl.
  Talent Contestants will preform something they are 'good' at.
  Swimwear Contestants will show their health/fitness and self confidence.

Fourth: Rules of Event!
- Swimwear must follow BOTH male AND female dress code for con. (Nothing 'nasty' shows.)
- Do not pressure your competitors into your fads. (We all know Reppy shaves but you don't have to.)
- This will be open to ALL ages so please keep things pleasant.
- You may have up to one onstage helper for your talent, they must be in all black, and they can not speak.


Fifth: Answers
- Time limit is unknown until we have our final number of contestants.
- I will be requesting a one hour slot.
- Backstage Interview will be done before the pageant starts.
- Between each event we will have guest performers so you have time to change.


Sixth: Guests
- The four slots are: After Interview, After Talent, After Swim, After Formal/During Talley.
- Quick set ups only! They won't have a lot of time and they are only here as fillers for you guys.
- They will have up to three minutes (one song) to perform so you are not rushed.
- Their time depends on what they are doing and where they are placed. The end will have more time and After Swim will have least.
- I will be placing them where I believe they fit best.


Seventh: Donations!
- If anyone wishes to donate anything for prizes that is wonderful! (This includes art!)
- If not all donations are given out, they will be kept for later years.
- You can donate your assistance in making any of the sashes or the umbrella!
- Monetary donations will go to paying for supplies (Sashes, Umbrellas, Baskets, et cetera)


Eight: Winners/Prizes
- Miss Kumoricon will be given a Sash, Umbrella (designed to match that year), and a gift basket. (Crowns I'm worried would mess up some wigs if put on incorrectly.)
- Runner Up will receive a Sash and something else I'm still trying to think of.
- Miss Congeniality will receive a Sash and Gift Basket.

As for timing...should I go longer? I have 15 min set up, 15 take down, and 1 hour for the panel.

Winner - 3

This adds up to 60 minutes.
For five people it would be two minutes each event. (Swim would only last three minutes probably.)
Ten people would have one minute each event.

You have three minutes to change costumes and I have five minutes to tally up all the results.

Well, how about an hour & a half?  I'm mainly thinking about the possibility of mistakes, delays, or possibly an extra contestant or two.  Also, I would think that set-up (especially) and tear-down would need more than 15 minutes each.

Set up is just testing sound and making sure CDs work. It doesn't really need that much unless we are setting up chairs and stuff.

We will all meet at some point when we all have time to work together. (I was hoping Day 0 if we are all there.)
We won't be on stage but that isn't too big of an issue.

Tear down is just making sure everything is cleaned up. Again, unless we are working with chairs and if we have to have them all set up ourselves. This is why I sent a PM to Jamiche to talk with her about all of this.

Even with extra contestants an hour is fine. I don't think we will get over ten. And if I extend it and we don't get over ten, it will be way too long.
I am going to cut it off at only ten people because of this which will decrease times to one minute each if we get all ten.
Swimming will only be a maximum of five minutes and the other five will be tossed into talent for 15 minutes. Giving 3 minutes for five people and 1.5 for ten.


Mistakes are why we practice. If you screw up on your talent, you can't start over. It's too time consuming and not fair for everyone.
I also don't want the audience to get bored.



So the only concern I have with timing is with set up and take down which I'm discussing with Jamiche before I make an exact time.
I just wanted to make sure you could all do everything in 2-3 minutes time. If everyone can't, then I will extend it a bit or move numbers around to make it all work.

Cause you'll have by the time you get off until your next time up. You will all always be in the same order that is chosen and you will also have 3 more minutes with the guests in between the events. I have some males I do but they wear baggy clothing. I am only doing a guy this year for Molly and the coat covers my chest cause it's baggy.

But yeah...I can't wear a binder or anything cause of my lungs. I breath at not even half the rate of a normal person so I can't have any compression on my chest or I can't breath at all.

All times were sent in for the night of Day One. I worked with Zach to find times that worked for him and avoided major conflicts.

Well, in terms of pictures, I have yet to have my costume made or my swimsuit purchased.  The dress will be something that I'll be borrowing from my sister, so that will have to wait until I can go see her.

I'm working on a video to show what my talent will be, since I'm just now working on being able to do it myself.  I'm just not sure how to do it; Movie Maker doesn't seem to like me too much...

Still finding the perfect final accessories for my swimsuit entry.
Going dress shopping around Portland and my town soon, so when I find the base dress it'll hopefully be soon - or I'll get fabric and start.
The other two outfits are in various stages of completion, had an order come in so I'm a bit back logged - but don't worry it'll all be together before con.

As for talents, I'm debating a few and running them by a friend or two soon - then I'll send something in.

Okay, so I have a few things to say...

I have gotten quite a few PMs from people who want to take over my panel, make another panel like mine, and are suggesting things and trying to over run how I am running this.

I would like all of this to stop.
I appreciate the help but this is my panel.

The reason there is no Mr. Kumoricon is because this is a trial panel. I want to see how well the outcome of this one will be before I decide on further changes/additions. I do plan on having a Mr. Kumoricon as well and my own planning has already been written down on my computer. But, again, I need to see how this goes first. Audience turn out, how Kumoricon staff works with it, how people react, how much time/money it will cost (for the prizes for the winners). This isn't a panel that can be randomly tossed together without a lot of thought put into it. That is why I decided to run only one of the two in my first year of doing this.
The reason I chose Miss Kumoricon is because of the male mascot we have this year and because people are less accepting of men as women. I know that Mr. Kumo would have a better outcome than Miss and that gives me a better idea of how things are going to run. You start out small and then get bigger, not the other way around.

Also, possible changes will be made if this happens next year which includes the addition of real women.
Not a lot of men crossplay and it has been hard for me to get people to join in. So next year this will also be open to girls who cosplay as girls. Thus, the pageant will focus on who is the better woman...a man or a woman?

The second year of Mr. Kumo will also bring in the same aspect of if a man or a woman is a better man IF things go over well with Mr. Kumo.


So again, I appreciate the help and suggestions but I would also appreciate you all to step back a bit and realize I know what I am doing. I ask for help because I want input on what you guys would like to see for prizes. I put things by you all on here to make sure it's not going to anger anyone and so you all know what is going through my head.

I'm not trying to make anyone mad but I am getting ticked off by all the PMs I get about people taking over my ideas.
I do not PM you about taking over your panels so please stop trying to take over mine.

You're good on stuff from me, right?  Cosplay's still in progress (need to get a wig, shoes, and stockings still) and I don't have my talent totally down yet but everything's pretty much set at this point on my end.
