I finnaly started watching the older seasons with Tom Baker as the doctor, and Jon Pertwee. I noticed with the acception of Jon Pertwee back then they kinda treated their compainions as er....idiots. x D

I think 9 and 10 were pretty ok to their compaions like Rose...and that african american lady whos name escapes me....well maybe not her.

Don't get me wrong I'm not ripping on the doctors or choosing favorites between campanions. :0

That's because the Companion is the role that's there to ask the stupid questions and get everything the Doctor says translated into Captain-dummy-speak. You get the occasional bright one but then they just kinda get lost or horrible things happen to them or they're only around for a few episodes.

But, but, but Seven is totally incompetent and creepy, and Six is nothing like Three... Six is the cat who walks by himself. Three is the posh dandy.

Me and my sister both love Six, though. And really don't like Seven. I mean, he has an excuse: the Rani DID kind of want to cause Six to regenerate into the most loser Doctor possible, and she definitely succeeded. But still. No one that lame deserves a companion as badass as Ace.

Speaking of, someday, I WILL cosplay Ace.

I can see where you coming from. I do, however, think that 6 is more annoying then 7.
You're right, personality wise 6 and 3 are nothing alike. 6 is much less physical then 3 (as 3 is easily the most physical doctor), but looks wise they're similar.

<<EDIT: Spoilers>>I will defiintely be cosplaying someone from the Whoniverse. This KC I did my take on Gwyneth from (9/Rose ep w/Charles Dickens) The Unquiet Dead. I'd planned to try to build a wearable, painted cardboard TARDIS for Orycon, but whether or not I'll have the time/$ is a bit up in the air (no pun intended). Just finished Series 3 this week. Haven't seen any of the docs before 9 (except the 1st 2 eps of the 4-part series premier with 1). Haven't seen any Torchwood but should be getting it soon from a friend & love me some Jack...& curious where they went with the Gwyneth actress's new character (Gwen).

My dream cosplay would be to get all body painted & ornamented to be http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Jabe_Ceth_Ceth_Jafe

Jabe from "The End of the World" (9/Rose ep). BTW....is this our 1st meeting with The Face of Boe, or was he in any other eps in the old series? (He does tell the doctor they'd meet 3 times, & there are 2 other such eps in the modern series.....)

I'm sick, and couldn't do much today, so I resorted to photoshopping this mostly from memory (except the doctors I don't know very well)
So! If you're wondering which companion to put a friend as, just look through here and decide which one they look most like xD

@ Soundninja: It is indeed an aspiration of mine.
Specifically how I picture doing it (some info below will include spoilers):
(1) Get a coat rack on wheels.
(2) Get some peach/neutral gauzey material that is somewhat see-through.
(3) Get some clamps of some sort.
(4) Clamp the material to the rack so it looks like her stretched skin.
(5) Take a red marker and draw things that look like arteries on various parts of the material.
(6) Figure out where I would tend to stand in relation to the material while walking and have a spot to poke parts of my face through it.
(7) Get face paint to try to match my skin color to the color of the fabric.
(8 ) Watch the ep in New (x 15) York where we see what she looked like in her body, again. Get clothes and wig as close to what she was wearing in that ep, so that when I can't be behind the fabric and rack (e.g., when I'm giving a panel), I can still be in Cassandra cosplay.
(9) Extra special bonus fun, would be if someone who is already cosplaying Rose or 10 could re-enact those scenes in which Cassandra is bouncing back and forth between their bodies (oh the audacious flirting and oh the smooch!!!!!) And/or I'd try to recruit someone to cosplay her minion whom she becomes at the end of the ep....I so totally cried when she as him told her past self she is beautiful........PS THANK YOU FOR THE EPIC COMPANION GUIDE!

IN OTHER NEWS I love Eleven so much oh my god I hadn't really finished watching S5 because I'm terrible, but I watched Vincent and the Doctor yesterday and I CRIED SO MUCH sweetest Doctor ever omg he's quickly become one of my favorites. He's like, the sweetness of Nine and Five and the sillyness of Two and Four and the wonderfuladorablesemisadness of Nine and the spazzy wizeness of Ten and oh my god he's perfect he's so perfect and he's SO ADD and I love him so much and Amy has grown on me a lot.

Enthusiastic helper dude, Chip, would be fun to get body painted as anyway. I do have some doctor scrubs and even a doctor lab coat or two somewhere though they tend to be the actual hospital olive drab and not white per the show. Definitely will have a spray bottle or two handy.

I think it would be funny to also be accompanied by one of the Adherents of the Recurring Meme. And have one of those mechanical spidery things on remote control.

Lady Cassandra, the last human, cosplay update & seeking your advice, please!
I have been loaned a wheeling coat rack from Dan from Anime Friday at Wuntvor's. Going to experiment with it for Orycon if I can get the rest of the pieces by then, otherwise MEW.
(1) It is 4 feet wide. So I got 4.5 feet of 45 inch, peachy-copper, organza. It looks kinda sorta "flesh tone"y and it is about half-see-through. (5)I have found various of my hand-me-downs from my dad's former hospital days of scrubs in various covers (actually wore a green scrub for Frank introducing Rocky in the lab at Rocky Horror last night). So I have 2 matching small (just past waist) white lab coat type jackets. These could either be worn by people carrying spray bottles/squirt gun type things or I was thinking I would wear one if I put eyes & lips on Cassandra without having to use my own face. Still don't have white scrub pants but could look for them used somewhere. Face mask/gloves I could try hardware store.
(6)I have to figure out whether to adapt a spray bottle or a squirt gun. I am thinking spray bottle because of peacebonding rules albeit that squirt gun would look closer to canon. Gardening season being largely over, not sure where I'll find one.
(7)I have no idea what to do for the thing that sits at the bottom of her wheeling cart, that I guess is supposed to be where her vital fluids circulate through, that looks like a big metal canister/pump that is linked to the rest of the contraption. Ideas?
I think in one image it looked like it held blue fluid and perhaps her brain? The closest thing I've seen is a lava lamp....

I will experiment with how easy it is to make slits in the fabric. I have to have the clips in place first, though, to know where to put the slits for eyes & lips! (Having it hanging as a "dress rehearsal" & seeing at what height I'd put my face, etc.)

The only place I've ever seen them for sale is "head shops" (& it's been years since I've been in one). But if I can find one, & find a way to adhere it, I sure will. I have now obtained the following towards Cassandra:
(1) Squirt bottles. One regular/see-through, in case I'm required by a con for security to be able to see it's empty. One grey/black, because it looks closer to the canon. It would be more canon to have something that looks like a squirt gun, but that might have to be peacebonded.
(2) Zip ties and clamp-resembling pieces of metal. Rather than actually physically screw the clamps onto the poles (which are not mine, thus I can't drill holes), I got these random pieces of metal that look like clamps and zip ties to hold them into place. The hardware store guy suggested I put the zip ties through the fabric and through the holes in the metal to stretch the fabric to look as though it is clamped on.
(3) A white cloth face mask with green goggles. This of course is for the "Moisturize me!" minion from Series 1, "The End of the World". As for the little white head covering, I might be able to turn inside out my white steering-wheel warmer.
My dad is going to see if he can get from his former hospital an unused authentic white lab coat for me.

Hopefully my insofar-imperfect Oncoming Storm glare is enough to make them assemble themselves into something resembling my frock coat. Unfortunately that's probably not the case, and I'll have to either perfect the glare or sew the coat myself.

Here's the update on Tiptoe Through the TARDIS. I've been asking pals to find & bring memorabilia, tell tales from TimeCons & such. I've been encouraging cosplay, fanfics, & filks. I have my filk I sang at Fanfic Bedtime Stories at Creation Station at KC this year, plus, I wrote another one just for this panel. It's from Martha's point of view, singing to "Professor John Smith" in Human Nature/Family of Blood. "Don't you remember, being a Time Lord?!--of course, that's to The Time Warp....
I'm planning some random contests. Trivia, impersonations, debates, and the match-the-hair/accessory/wardrobe to the doctor (also match the dates of performance to the actors' names). Possibly match the companion to the doctor (hence hoping Ainekatt ok's use of her guide). The prizes for winners will be my homemade Dalek cakes. Ingredients: Swiss rolls, fudge frosting, chocolate-marshmallow discs, sixlets candy, mini  Charms pops. I was going to use candy buttons but they're on the far side of town. I haven't tried making them yet nor finished Cassandra. Tried everywhere for wax lips, only one place carried them & they sold out. Probably going with googlie eyes and using glitter glue to make lips. Going with red fuzzy pipe cleaners to make the arteries. Probably spruce it up before the next time I use it. I have the "moisturizer minion" costume that I'll also wear.
Anyone else have suggestions for my panel? Soundy,  would you want to run a comparable one with me for KC? Folks, would there be interest?
@Ritchie, I wouldn't look on the 'net. I would call antique stores or go to Pickadilly when it's at Lane Co. Fairgrounds. Honestly your best bet is estate sales. Especially if you want provenance (i.e., you want paperwork authenticating the era & prior ownership of an antique).

British-food potluck + Whovian meetup + hottub & sauna in north Portland...about 20 minutes from the Kumoricon meeting / party in Tigard, if anyone is going to that.

I've been listening to Once More, With Feeling (aka The Buffy Musical) to prep for our "Whedon-Verse" panel /sing-along and love "Giles" on that. A testament both to Catherine's acting and to amazing writing. Totally heartbreaking at the end....Oh and I love Wilf. While obviously The Xmas Invasion proves ultimately important, mine is The Next Doctor. I can't take The Next Doctor seriously anymore now that I've watched Blackpool. David Morrissey and David Tennant are both in that, and it's a musical crime drama. Yeeeeeeaaaaaah. Fantastic, but you can't watch those two in much else without snickering every now and then.

Merry Smithmas, everyone! Doctor Who at the PROMS is on at 1PM and Matt Smith is on Graham Norton right after the Christmas Special.

And if you can't watch any of those on the telly, the Christmas Special is more than likely going to be streaming at any number of places on the internet and will more than likely be available for download within an hour of its being broadcast.

So this person I accidentally met online like last night happens to work with liquid latex and might be able to fashion me an Ood mask. That. Would. Rule. She said she'll let me know sometime between now & spring. Rockin. I'd suit up as Ood Sigma.

There is a somewhat expensive prefab mask I am considering buying that is Dalek Sek Hybrid from Daleks in Manhattan. This will depend on how things go with my job in the next month or two.

Speaking of Daleks, next up in my Netflix queue is the 1st disc of Genesis of the Daleks. 4/Sarah Jane/Davros. Having seen The Stolen Earth/Journey's End it will be fascinating to see how Sarah Jane has or hasn't changed and what's different across the Davros's. It will also be only my 2nd time seeing a classic ep (the first being the first 2 of 4 parts of the pilot, An Unearthly Child).

It was AWESOME having you there, Ritchie. Your handmade waistcoat & cravat (spelling?) were gorgeous. You're a great road-trip companion. And a fun and savvy co-panelist.

Our Tiptoe Through the TARDIS panel at MEW was FANTASTIC. We had at least 25 people there, and were having so much fun our 45-minute panel became 75-minute one! Karen & Robert brought Time Con memorabilia, a Cyberman action figure, and totally surprised us by having remote-control Daleks invade from the back of the room (seriously I jaw-dropped). We had a Rose from Empty Child cosplayer copanelist (a gal I met at our Ory panel, Kate). And an ADORABLE 11/Copper!Amy pair who graciously posed. I debuted one of my new Whovian filks, we heard Barrowman's The Doctor & I, shared trivia, memories, hopes, shudders, jokes, line recitations......I could spend a whole con doing this....Yeah.

@ Bend, the head of my SCA household is in Bend and is a Whovian, I will ask if he ever cosplays from it.

So I put my hand on this and say "I need to paint this blue so I can use it as a TARDIS for a photo shoot." Other than, "Hi, I'm --" this is our first conversation. She immediately high-fived me & we spent the whole next 40 minutes abuzz comparing notes on Whovian trivia. Next date: Marathon of Matt Smith's eps. (11 is her doctor. Her favorite scene is River shooting the fez. But she's with me on Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead as our #1 eps.)

BTW. I just watched the original pilot followed by the latter trio of the original four-parter that aired (though not the first of that serial), "An Unearthly Child". Thank the Time Lords that the BBC saw past the horrid acting and dialogue of the cavemen, or it would've been all over in '63. Sheesh.

But the next serial on this DVD from the library is, I'm assuming, the debut of the Daleks (as it's a Hartnell serial). Can't wait!

Watching the very earliest eps is so fascinating to me. The quirkiness and cantakerousness of 1 is certainly more visible in 9 than 10. Is it ever specifically explained in canon why regenerations are getting younger? I'm curious if more of the family members are ever present or what ends up happening to Susan. Ian is growing on me. It's fun seeing certain things explained that I'd never considered (such as the machine that makes what looks like candy bars that taste like whatever is requested, e.g., "bacon and eggs"). I did LOL at the first sight of a Dalek being the obvious toilet plunger, eliciting a scream from Barbara, but I'm quite sure if it were 1963 I would've been scared, too.

Our panel is presently slated for 2pm to 3:30pm on con Monday. Cosplay Chess is currently slated from 12pm to 2:30pm.

I had thought that I had asked for an hour, and was surprised to see an hour and a half.

How much do you think it might hurt the panel to be overlapping with the last half-hour of Cosplay Chess? Are there many other Whovian cosplayers who might want to be part of a photo shoot and/or panel who are in Cosplay Chess?

Caitlin & Katie are listed as the official copanelists. Anyone else is welcome to hop aboard whether at the podium / table of in the audience.

Big questions:
(1) Do we need to avoid the overlap with Cosplay Chess?
(2) If so, *if* allowed to make such a request (and I'm not sure about whether we would be), do I ask that we start at 2:30 but still end at 3:30?
Or that we retain 90 minutes but then go from 2:30 to 4?
(3) Do we want to see if we are allowed to change the event description to specifically mention the photo shoot(s)?
(4) Do we want to have photo shoot(s) during the actual panel, as well as asking folks to time them for before or (IMHO a better choice) after?
(The only things after our panel are pretty much Closing Ceremonies, & Rant & Rave, & cleanup.)

Sure, I could make it after cos chess ~ I'm a timelord after all 

I'm sure you could contact the panels coordinator and ask for your panel time to be adjusted if you want. I'm also doing a panel and they said in the email to look over the draft schedule and let them know about any issues so I would just ask for the time you want.

Since I don't know what you plan to do at the panel I can't really advise on how long the panel should be but if you originally planned on an hour you might just go with that this time around and see how it goes.

Again, you can ask to amend the panel description to include a photo shoot but it may not make it into some of the printed material as it might be past the publications deadline but again you can ask.

For the photo shoot part I think it might be better to have it at the end of the panel that way any late comers can be included.

I'm not sure about doing the photoshoot during the panel, especially if we end up with a one hour time block, since it seems like it would take up most of the panel. Even if we only did a quick shoot, like half an hour, that'd be half of our time gone. But right after sounds good, if people don't mind missing Closing Ceremonies/Rant And Rave. I know I don't. 

Also, what are we planning to do during the panel? It sounds like Rem ran it at a previous con (MEW? Dunno, too lazy to check), what did you do there? Was it mostly educational, just for fun, socializing...? I'm attending no matter what, just curious what exactly we're gonna do.

(1) It sounds like the people who are involved in Cosplay Chess will be able to come after the panel. So if the official copanelists agree (that would be Caitlin & Katie), we can just keep the timeslot we have (2pm-3:30pm), with the understanding we may get additional folks in at 2:35 (here's hoping).

(2) It sounds like asking to move the panel to end just before Closing Ceremonies would be inadvisable.

(3) I'm hearing that there's a preference to not turn the panel into a photoshoot, at least not in the event description. What we can perhaps consense among ourselves is that if we naturally evolve in that direction -- i.e., if there are enough people there who want a photoshoot more than they want to perform fanworks or discuss canon & fanon-- that that will be just fine & dandy.

(4) Certainly seems to me to make more sense for our photoshoot to be after than before the panel, both because of chess and because there may be folks who haven't joined this thread on the forums, who will show up in cosplay or at least want to watch or take pics.

(5) Yes, I have run a Tiptoe Through the TARDIS panel, twice so far. Last year at the Creation Station at OryCon, where it was standing-room-only in a room with a 55-seat capacity, and at which there were still about a dozen folks who hadn't gotten to speak when the next panel started. Out of this grew two facebook groups, which any of you are more than welcome to join: Tiptoe through the TARDIS and Friends of the Doctor, First Regeneration. Also, by popular demand, our panel will be 2 hours at OryCon this year, instead of 1. Then Caitlin and I, Karen & Robert from OryCon (sempai who used to go to Time Cons), and a girl cosplaying Rose from The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances (yay! Squee!), held one at MEW, which was also surprisingly well-attended & festive. There were fabulous 11/Amy-as-Kissogram cosplayers, and Karen floored me by surprising me with her remote-control Daleks!!!

(6) Here is the event description I submitted to the cons. MEW: Whovians, unite! Celebrate and debate your favorite Doctors, Companions,

BTW. 3 11/Amy eps were nominated for Hugo Awards (voted on by the multiple thousands of members of Renovation World Con in Reno, to which I won a scholarship). The nominated eps were A Christmas Carol, The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang, and Vincent and the Doctor. I'll post here if any of them wins. They are up against a music video too adult for me to mention on the forums, and against a creative animated short film based on a picture book by an artist who won a Hugo last year.

Also nominated for a Hugo was a book that looks amazing, that I am absolutely going to buy myself before Kumoricon. It is called, and I quote: "Chicks Dig Time Lords". It's a compilation of essays by women in the fandom, including women who were part of canon, such as playing an actress named India who played a companion to 6 & 4 in radio plays.

I'm really sorry guys... It looks like the Weeping Angel is a last-minute no go... I've got most of it done, but now a major component needs to be redone, and that requires time and materials I don't have left. I'm so frustrated I could just about cry. I put a lot of time and effort into this, and I was SO looking forward to standing in an elevator and scaring the pants off of somebody...

Even so, I'll still definitely come to the panel and stuff. And I'll be back next year with an actual working costume, maybe two.

Thanks for all the pic links and the phrase! I love everyone in this thread! Without you, we wouldn't have brought our panel to Kumoricon from OryCon and MEW Con! And it was fanTAStic!

Day rate for Friday of OryCon I believe is $20 (<--will try to verify).

We are also holding a Make Your Own Sonic Screwdriver panel just before our Doctor Who Fandom panel.

OryCon is a science fiction/fantasy con. This year's theme is "The Lighter Side of Horror". I can think of a few Whovian eps along those lines.....Love and Monsters, for starters.

Sorry to have missed this at Kumo. But I'll be coming in next year! Likely I'll be dragging my Whovians with me. My boyfriend does the 11th Doctor. I have a friend that does 10th Doctor. He's pretty good at it. I also have a friend up in Everett that I'll be dragging down, she does a Female Regeneration of The Master. Me personally, another of my OCs. The Archivist. XD Totally up for offering full profile of the character, if anyone wants to see how I legitimized her. XP

@ Tomecko, correct. OryCon is a science-fiction and fantasy con. This will be my 3rd year running a Creation Station there. It's super awesome fun. And it's at my favorite of the Kumoricon con hotels (Doubletree Lloyd Center, where we were in 2005 and 2008).

OryCon is run by OSFCI, same folks who run GameStorm.

WOW abso friggin lutely! I want to hear all about The Archivist. Did you compose her for a fanfic? Is there a Whovian RPG or LARP? I would so swoon..... That you are cosplaying an OC is epic. I actually did that last year. Last day of KC, I cosplayed a Summer Court Dryad from a fantasy novel for which I was not the author, but the editor / beta reader.

And OMG a female regeneration of the Master? In what era?
