We needed a 2011 thread. I have made it. Post with what cosplay you're bringing, and I'll put you on the cosplay list. Suggest some pairings or scenarios you'd like to see, and I'll add them to the photoshoot list.

I thought the wig was just his shaggy season 3 hair, like the wig you already have.
I actually saw an amaaazing open shirt bound beach Zuko at Kcon 2009. No pics though. : (

Saya and I were actually considering doing Hokoda(Katara and Sokka's dad) and Sokka's black sun outfits, because we watched that episode this weekend. XD and we just love the fatherly bond between them.
But it was just a possible future cosplay for another time.

Parka is harder to make, hotter to wear but also REALLY COOL. Swamp version is still cool and much easier to do. But still really hard!

I feel like the only reason swamp version would be hard, is because we can't see the front, we would have to completely come up with how it looks. It should be simple if you use Sokka and Katara's clothes as reference, but still.

Well Jet is already dead. So it's less of a blow. I love Zuko though ;-; I'm on Book Two Chapter Seven (Zuko Alone) and basically he's awesome and I wasn't expecting to love him nearly as much as I do. But I think that statement is true of every single character because everyone in this show is amazing. But yeah, I want to hang out with Zuko and Iroh EVERY DAY FOREVER.
... Zuko kind of reminds me of my favorite character from Lost, but I don't think anyone but me is a fan of that show on here

I think... I watched the first episode with you one time? maybe? not enough to really get into it...

Yeah, Lost is one of those shows that's really confusing and strange until you're a few episodes in, and at that point it's still confusing and strange but you love it so much for whatever reason that you don't care. Kind of like Heroes. But Zuko totally reminds me of Ben, so I guess I like characters that start off as bad guys, become morally ambiguous for a while as they try and sort through their problems, and then become good guys?

I've already started working on it, being as, considering that I have to build a wheelchair with functioning break system, and the ability to fold in half and be disassembled and reassembled with nothing more than some elbow grease and a normal screwdriver, I'm getting a huge headstart.

Let's hope I can actually pull this off!

Also, I have a friend who's going to be Aang, and a whole mess of my other buddies who are like "We should do an ATLA group next K-con" but have no idea who they'd be yet and haven't started work or committed, so!

Concerning the Kiyoshi warrior uniforms: I was under the impression they were hakama. I may be wrong.
(Aang and Sokka refer to them as dresses, but hakama are more functional and fit better with the A:tLA universe.)

So. What I did for Suki's costume was this - I made a kimono, and wore a skirt underneath it. That simple. Once I had the kimono made, I pinned the edges back, and the hem up so that it would show off more of the skirt, as in the show. The armor was foam - http://entropyhouse.com/penwiper/costumes/helmsdeep.html - this is the link. It made my life so much easier. I am going to re-do the armor so that it's shaped better, but it looked semi-okay - it wasn't the armor, it was how I had cut/shaped it.

That's actually sort of brilliant. And seeing as he actually does not wear the bandage things in a few scenes, I know what his pants look like, so I'll be making them. I might wind up doing that. And I'm superpro at sewing myself into costumes, so I should be able to do it myself: as for at con... well I'll be staying with a bunch of people, so that's also a nonissue.

I am going to re-do the armor so that it's shaped better, but it looked semi-okay - it wasn't the armor, it was how I had cut/shaped it.

At the moment the whole bald cap thing isn't seeming like it's going to work. I will try it, but from what I've seen of them, bald caps don't do their balding job very well, especially one at my budget.
SO IT SEEMS I WILL BE MAKING HIS HELMET.

I'm painting my armor now. I think it looks pretty good. I am going to finish cutting out the other pieces tomorrow and get everything painted. My new roommate has a bunch of fabric and I found some perfect black fabric for the dress part. I still have lots of time to finish everything, but so far it is coming along nicely. :3

The wig has been ordered, fabric and patterns bought, leather paint for boots and metal bosses for armor obtained, and my contact lenses that were previously used for Kimbley found again.  Only things left to get are the armor and the Epic Sideburns.    I've got a local metalsmith commissioned for the little Fire Nation hair decoration that goes in front of one's topknot, so it'll match the brass on the armor.  I'm so excited for this!

Ok I have a short and pants picked out for azula but they are red red. I'm wondering if they should be a darker red. A lot of other cosplays use the brighter red but some of the references look like it should be dark red.

It depends on what kind of coloring you're going for with the rest of the details. A red red would look okay if you did it with yellow detailing. If you went with more of a golden color, a darker red would look better. And personally speaking, I like the darker coloring better.

I bought dye today and dyed the shirt and pants. So far it looks great. I put them in a wash to get the extra dye out so I will see what it looks like when it comes out. If I need to I will buy more dye. But I dried a small section and it came out this beautiful red wine color (the dye was "wine"). I am excited to get it done. Once I get the shirt done I can mix the paint I need (to match the shirt and pants) for the shoes.

Then eventually I will pull out the black pleather I have for the dress and get started on that and the boot covers.

I've been planning Blue Spirit for a while ^^ I'm kinda surprised people don't do him, since you don't even have to look like a character.....

I think it's that mask is why people don't do it so often. it's a pain in the you know what. My boyfriend made one out of craft foam it worked alright, but  then we found a really nice place that makes masks and that's what he's gunna be wearing at con.

Wish I'd been able to make the shoot! Debuting Toph was awesome, I got tons of hugs and it is officially the most comfortable cosplay EVAH. I hope to bring her next year!
