2010 August 22 General Meeting and Training
« on: August 12, 2010, 05:47:57 pm »
Our final general meeting before Kumoricon 2010 will be held Sunday, August 22, at 1:00pm at the Portland Downtown Hilton in the Main Ballroom:

Hilton Portland & Executive Tower
921 SW 6th Ave
Portland, OR 97204

Google Maps

The Main Ballroom is in the Main Tower, which is on the southwest corner of the 6th and Taylor intersection.  The address and address-based maps point to this tower.

A motion was heard at the last meeting that may come to a vote at this meeting.  The "vuvuzelas" thread in General Staff has some discussion introducing the topic.  Discussion pertinent to the motion itself can be found here.  Both these threads can only be accessed if you are logged in with a Forum ID registered as staff.

Following the meeting, there will be training sessions.  Please bring paper and pen so you can write down your questions and hold them until the ending Q&A.

General meetings are open to the public. Although staff registration closed as of the previous meeting, you can still learn how to volunteer, and learn about future involvement with the convention.

I would like all Reg Staff, and Reg Volunteers (current and future) to be there. We have very little time to work things out.
We should try to find an area to all sit at during the meeting.

What about Bag Stuffing?
As for bag stuffing, I have an idea, PARTY AT JO's !!!!!

The books could not have been completed and sent to print in time for bag stuffing at this meeting. I am aware that tentatively it is scheduled for the 28th or after. The details haven't been finalized yet.

I have 2 more volunteers besides myself to help with bag stuffing.  I can bring a couple more tables as well.  I may have more coming as well.  We won't be able to show up until after 2 pm on the 28th. (Heard a hint that the bag stuffing would be on the 28th.)

Bag stuffing: My house, Saturday, August 28, starting at 10:00 AM?  If you show at 9:00, you get pancakes or waffles.

I'll post the pertinent details (such as the address) to the staff email list when they are finalized.  Gotta make sure I'm not missing a crucial detail!

If you are not on the staff email list nor tagging along with a staffer, send an email to volunteer@kumoricon.org.

Also, remember to have Misty order them to the place you are having the bag stuffing. (You have a few days to figure this out, the address isn't needed until they're printed and ready to ship.) And be sure you are prepared to receive some gigantic pallets of con books. :) And then have places to store the stuffed bags, which will take up even more space. And to get them to the con.

As of sometime late last night or was it early this morning, as i was very intoxicated at Jo's place, we decided to move the Reg BBQ on the 28th to Jo's place to make a big stuffing and bbq party.

Ok so i do have some memory of last night.
Now what do i do with this coat hanger, banana peel, and blue velvet dinner jacket?
And where is "the other" brandon (aka Henry) so we can lynch him.

Ironically, I'm not there because there's too much for me to work on for Kumoricon! (to put in the 4+ hour drive etc.)

Well, I'd say this meeting was quite productive.  The Code: Adam video was rather helpful.

Ditto. I especially liked the fact that staff training was done on-the-spot so that there was no chance of misunderstanding where to go. :)

I guess I should have brought it up at the time, but the video mentioned having specific people at any given time who would be responsible for covering each exit until the Code Adam was cancelled. Will we have that scheduled as well?

Yep.  It will be part of certain assignments, and will be assigned at badge and assignment pick-up.

For example, the person whose assignment is in the lobby, encouraging loiterers to be in way more awesome-cool places than the tiled walkways, would be the person who covers the 6th Street exits during a Code Adam.   Obviously one person can't be both covering the exit and clearing aisles at the same time, but the aisles can be sacrificed for the 10-15 minutes it will take to resolve a code.

So: details when you pick up your badge!

I know I'm getting ahead of myself considering the con's only a few days away, but any idea when next meeting will be yet? I could have misunderstood, but it seemed like Beau was saying at the last meeting that we would have one really soon to elect next year' directors.

It was announced that the probable, though not final, date of the elections meeting (Annual Member Meeting) would be either September 25 or 26. That's three weeks after the con, where in the past it's more often been around four to six weeks.
