2010 Food Recommendation Thread - Official
« on: May 18, 2010, 09:30:39 am »
Hello folks!

As per my good of the order at the meeting on May 16th, I had solicited the knowledge of all staff
(and now attendees) as to preference of foods that you might buy at the hotel if they had them
available.

Please list not only snack type foods (think food cart) but also meals (think the bistro). Since we
have the whole hotel to ourselves our desire would be to have them offer foods you would want to
purchase so that the restaurant stays full and it gives everyone a place to sit and socialize!

So... let me know; what foods do YOU like?

I suppose I didn't make my parameters clear...

I have no jurisdiction over guest dinners, VIP dinners, birthday dinners, family dinners, or your moms meatloaf dinner.
 ;)

I can't request specific caterers or anything,

I put in the requests, they look it over, see what they can actually get into the restaurant and a possible cart on the plaza
floor.

I am in contact with the hotel on main stream food only, nothing for a specific meal. And it'll all must be direct through the
hotel or their suppliers, not other caterers or chefs, sorry!

But so far, the stuff you've given me is really helpful!

There's a map on the link bellow with all the surrounding food vendors, store ect ect...

I thought I'd give a reference to what surrounding the Con site.

I Beg of you don't ask for pizza! There are tones of pizza places within walking distance.

OMFG okay, so I know you say you cant get guest chefs or anything, but I think this is an awesome idea.

How cool would it be if we could take one meal during con and turn it into a panel?  You buy a ticket to participate (expense for the Dinner: Impossible, Robert Irvine guest chef, or even have him come with his camera crew and does a full out show) and get to make a full coarse traditional Japanese dinner/lunch.  After its all made, the people who bought tickets (and all the VIP?) get to eat what you made! YA, YA????  I bet he would do it if he had time, and the hotel would get a bunch of publicity and would let us (Robert Irvine) take over their kitchen!

Okay so you'll probably say no, but just imagine how fun it'd be  ^_^

This sounds like a ticketed panel... and something you would have had to head up
and run through Jaki... unfortunately fortunately, I don't control panels or
programming, just things the hotel does and says and has... so...that is not really
a "food thing" and is more of a PANEL thing... *shrugs*

I'd really enjoy bubble tea, which comes in a variety of flavors. :3  And I have no idea who does what or the general availability of anything, but I'm dying for some of the popular Japanese junk food: yakitori, pork buns, curry rice.. Just a suggestion.

IMHO, they would do well to have several entrees of which it would be very easy for them to make vegetarian versions.
For example: If they have a fetuccine alfredo with chicken, it would be very easy for them to substitute, say, broccoli for the chicken, if they cook the chicken separately, but rough for them to leave it out if they cook the chicken in the sauce.
Instead of having to come up with a whole vegetarian menu, at least I personally, as a vegetarian, would be happy if on their menus they overtly offer to render a vegetarian version of as many of their entrees as they can.
Certainly, they should have garden burger patties or the equivalent, available to substitute for burgers or cold cuts in any of their sandwiches, and vegetarian sausages available to substitute in any breakfasts, for meat sausages or for bacon.

I like to dine at new/exciting places when I travel so I will probably only eat at the hotel for a breakfast or 2. But I might also need something on the go...so I might as well give my input.

- Fresh Vegetables/Salads
- Fruit Assortments
- Sandwiches/Subs
- Muffins/Bagels
- Meal Bars/Energy Bars

Of course they are going to have your regular breakfast items (ie. Eggs, Bacon, Toast, Sausage, etc.) still or I would request that those are also available as an option.

Anyone got recs for food for someone who's sprained their leg? ^ - ^;;; I'm looking for places (that aren't pizza, maybe not chinese?) that deliver, that kind of thing. Failing that, how IS the hotel's food? Expensive? Bland? (or am I just biased against it?)

thanks!

Actually this hotels food is really good, but kinda pricey (compared to some of the restaurants around). About two months ago I sprained my ankle, so I understand. If you don't have any friends to help ya to one of the places around, then DEFINITELY eat at the hotel, it's yummy.
As for me, any fresh fruit I can get would be good, didn't get much last year.  :)

Good to know about the hotel food! Naturally I just moved and am super poor now, so we'll see how that goes. ^ - ~

I'd love to make it to the market, but my posse (heh) and I are coming from WA and thus have to play with parking and I'd rather gimp around and find something OK than pay in-and-out privileges at the hotel, really. ^ - ^;;; I think I can make it to the MAX though, which opens up some possibilities. I really liked the year Kcon was in Vancouver and next to the farmer's market, that was awesome.

If I feel up to it I'll make healthy cookies or something...or more likely something with cheese in it because, well, cheese is awesome. Bringing fruit is a keen idea, there IS never enough of that stuff around when you need it.
