Pick the other game show I do at Kumoricon!
« on: April 26, 2010, 09:55:07 am »
Hey everyone,

Since I'm rather confident hosting game show panels at cons now (Press your Luck, Whose Line) I want to do one more. However, I need input, since I have like 3 or 4 I want to do, and budgeting for only 2 (PYL and one other one). This is where you come in.

The for games I am thinking about doing are:

-Price is Right
-Double Dare
-Hollywood Squares
-Pyramid

So Kumoricon, which one should I do?

-Bressler

I don't think you can go wrong with Double Dare. xD Although what would be cool is sort of a "Win Ben Stein's Money" sort of thing.  Except it could be like, "Win Super Otaku's Pocky" or something. xD  Of course I think the only reason I really liked "Win Ben Stein's Money" was how every topic contained a ridiculous pun of some sort.

Well, I assume you'll need some help with these, whichever one you go with.  I'd be willing to help with the Price is Right or Hollywood Sqaures, possibly Pyramid (assuming that these don't conflict with my schedule).
My cosplay plans for 2022 (thus far): Vanir from Konosuba

Double Dare seems fun but it could get out of hand fast if there isn't a limit put into play. o 3o
Like keeping everything PG13... Unless you want it to be an 18+ panel...

Wasn't Double Dare a game show on Nickelodeon where kids would get slimed a lot?

Double Dare would be awesome if we had some activities/obstacle course things to do.

Have sign ups for any your gaming panels started yet or is this your first on for the con? I'm excited for this though! Last year's 'Press Your Luck' was incredibly awesome!!!

Heh.  A year or two ago, me and my friend were having a ridiculous time eating frozen Go-Gurts and playing Double Dare on NES.  There was this tough question that he dared it to me.  I couldn't figure it out, so I double dared it back to him.  In my head I'm thinking, "Heh heh, there's no way out of this one for him.  I've got him cornered!"

Then he looks at me and says, "Physical challenge."

I laughed so hard it was painful.  Not only had I completely forgot about that aspect of the game show, but his delivery and overall cockiness, "Hah! You thought you had me?! PHYSICAL CHALLENGE!"

Interesting thought I just had about Double Dare.  What is it teaching our kids?  "Not smart enough to answer questions?  USE PHYSICAL ABILITIES TO OVERCOME ANY INTELLECTUAL SHORTCOMINGS."  xDDD

Having said that .. if this game was included .. how would you work in the physical challenge aspect? ^^;  OH!  How about .. a quick game of say, Street Fighter II?  HMM?  Have a whole series of games lined up!?!?  In that case, it'd be sort of like a combination of Video Arcade and that one .. other game .. on Nickelodeon.  Anyone else remember?  You moved the guy around a screen, and you would run into questions / video questions / bombs / extra turns / video game challenges.  Then the kids would pick an arcade game and have to beat the "high score" to get points? xDDDD

</reminiscing childhood>

Anyways ..

TL;DR  This sounds fun, but how do you integrate the physical challenge aspect? xD

Yes, but you have to think about the people who don't know this.
People are going to see Double Dare and instead of thinking back to childhood years, they are going to start thinking wild thoughts.
So there would just have to be like...a forewarning or explanation or something so people don't take anything out of context or get disappointed when they find out the truth.
Ya know what I mean? Some people just have dirty minds and we don't want out poor children to get wind of what they could make up with the idea of "Double Dare."

Nice cover, Gryffinclaw .. we all know it's you with the dirty mind.. ya big ol pervo.  ;) :D

And yeah, regardless of what game is being played, there will need to be a good explanation, as well as any modifications that were made to make it fit the limitations / format of the anime con. ^^

Plus, some of us are old farts now and can't remember our childhoods very well anymore... xDDD

Oh, reppy, how you do make a girl blush. -^^-
You know I'm as innocent as snow. "Tee-hee"

lol
I know how to hold myself back. I won't abuse little children if they don't want it but once your my age and up No is just an encouragement to try harder. ;D

And as for that old fart comment, I resent that. XD I don't even remember my childhood. But that was from a head injury. :P But still!
And you aren't old... Old guys aren't normally cute...

D8< No frowning! 27 isn't old at all!!
My step-dad is 50! That's old... My Mama from when I was staying in Japan thought he was my grandpa from the pictures I showed her.

So you guys aren't old! Especially since you are within ten years of my age. D8
I don't want to be old at 27 so you guys need to shut up...

Man! You're 27! That's 3 cubed!  I'm 25, that's 5 squared.  We're like brothers, dude.

(Also, 27 is the "Weird Al" number.  Look it up on Google!  It appears all over his albums!)

Cripes, 27 since December?  One foot in the game, man..

 ;D

I just found out one of the guys I play basketball with is 33.  He looks like he's my age.  And he's a really good basketball player.

So, not all is lost!

Oh because you're sooo old Bressler... [/sarcasm]  :P
I've got you all beat...except Jeremiah and Big Chris.  ;D

As a child of the 80's, as much as I would love to see Double Dare, anyone who ever really watched that show knows that that was the messiest show on television.  There's not really any way it could be done justice without all the mess and "jello-like substance" or the "sundae slide".

Well, I've actually gone with Weakest Link, but I think we're gonna do Price either at Sak or here next year.
