Your own con rules!
« on: April 06, 2010, 07:30:22 pm »
Everyone has a set of rules that you must abide by whenever you go to a con. So, in this post, we shall share some of those rules that you may have. Let's start with mine.

-No political talk! This is a biggie here. Any anime con is NOT the time for talk about political issues. It would cause massive conflicts, is one reason why. And besides, you don't want to have your con ruined by all that. There is one exception to this rule, however: If it is done in a parody for a skit, then I will let it slide.
-It helps to have a sense of humor. Cons are meant to be fun. And by having a sense of humor, you're making it more fun for those around you. Who knows, you might score someone along the way.
-If ya want, greet people in Japanese. Some of you may disagree, but if you feel like it, it certainly helps put you in the mood, and reminds you where you are in a way.
-Have fun! 'Nuff said.

A proud attendee of Kumoricon and SakuraCon.

Well, personally, I dont think there should be too many rules other then 1 grand rule.

I think we can all agree that "USE COMMON SCENCE" is the best and main rule.

Why?
Because using common scence includes all of this;

-Act your age
-No rude comments
-No violence
-Common respect for others

ECT.

Sure cons and other events have their list of rules, but ultimatly, you can fit everything into one line by saying what I said.

If we all just use common scence, we are golden.

My only personal rules are...
- The age of consent is Oregon is 18, not 16.
- It's not assault unless they scream no.
- Bros before Hoes.
and my personal favorite...
- You can't abuse alcohol, but alcohol can abuse you.

Cheers!

I agree with this 100%.

But doesnt that fit into what I said; COMMEN SCENCE.

Its simple, if you use commen scence, that means you are doing things like maintaining a presentable image. Showing every day. At a large event like this, its almost allways needed. Brush your teeth. lol

No one wants to be crowded around with others that stink real bad. lol

Yup, I agree.

Don't feed the cosplayers? Awww... I would gladly take free food, LOL. I live off nothing all convention long. Thats the true convention experience!

I think that's more of a rule for the persons with the foods safety  ^___-

Rule: Eat responsibly.

An entire weekend of mountain dew and other sugary substances may result in hallucinating on the drive back home.

For example: "WHAT'S A TRAIN DOING ON THE ROAD!?" ...Semi =/= Train

Plus it just trashes your body and you need that.

The pizza doesn't have to be meat lovers with extra cheese. It IS possible to find vegetarian or even vegan pizza, which is a healthier alternative in most cases.

That sounds a lot like me (panic attacks, not eating if I'm distracted).  I didn't eat much the entire weekend.  I started to feel really dizzy on Sunday or so. ^_^; I had to go buy a bag of Peanuts ..

I think most everything can be summed up with the golden rule:

1.)  Do unto others as you'd have them do unto you.

Blocking walkways falls into this, no one likes to have to squeeze to get where they want to go
Mean people suck
Just say no to con funk, we hate smelling it so don't be that guy.

- Remember the "dinner table rules" people: No talks on politics.  This is a touchy subject that can flare up spontaneous real life flame wars.
- Shower and deodorant
- Assume every silly thing you do ends up on Youtube, which is why it's best to control the silliness and make it good silly, not stupid silly.
- Stash some cash as emergency reserve.  That's to make sure you can get back home.
- Shower and deodorant
- Look first, then move around.  No one wants to be crashed into by someone while wearing a delicate costume.
- Asking for photos politely almost guarantees a happy result.
- Shower and deodorant
- Support your local artists.  Buy something from Artist Alley even if it's just a bookmark.
- If there's drama, take it elsewhere.  No need to bring the rest of the con into it.
- Deodarant and shower

I have a few!

-Keep some sort of identification on your person AT ALL TIMES!! Sometimes, you just don't know what kind of weird crap you'll get into during a con, so if something happens to you, people know who your are and can get the right help!
-Con money is secret money. Don't start wacing your money around like a rich bastard. 1) people hate that and 2) it's more likely you'll get it stolen. Try your best to keep most of it out of sit and only take it out when buying something. Also, keep it on your person AAT!! Again, less chance for it to get stolen.
-I know this has been said before, but it sucks when the guy next to you in line smells like B.O... SHOWER Regularly and USE DEODORANT!!
-Make friends! Sadly, at my past few cons, I didn't socialize and meet a soul! Try your best to be social! People at cons are nice and are into the same things you are!
-Be nice to staff! A lot of them have to deal with the con bastards and douchebags for most of their shift,so they're stressed out! Just follow the rules, be considerate, and give them a hug! They know they want one, and they really appreciate it :3
-Don't play your music too loud. Some people may not like the song and find it annoying. Try to remember other people are trying to have a good time. If you want to play music, try to keep it at a volume only you and your friends can hear
-If you find Waldo, TELL ME. I WANT TO FIND WALDO!!
-Like Mudflap brilliantly said in Transformers 2, Revenge of the Fallen, "MEAN ROBOTS SUCK". Same applies to people. Ignore the suckish people being douche bags and are trying to ruin everyone's con time
-Try not to lose the game to much. I've already lost 5, now 6 times today. Think about how bad it is at a cons?
-Ask for photos! You won't get a good shot just by swinging past and taking a stalker picture anyways...

;D

My additional 2 cents. I most definitely agree with all that's been said so far. xD

1) If it's not yours, don't touch it. (Ask first, lest you face the wrath of an angry congoer.)

2) Carry breathmints or gum on your person. (It'll be hard to flirt with that hot Mimuru if your breath stinks.)

3) If you're old enough to go to a con, you are old enough to pick up after yourself. (The staff don't appreciate us throwing trash everywhere.)

The Unwritten Rules of Con Going! What are Yours?
« Reply #40 on: July 10, 2010, 10:16:16 pm »
Hello!
And welcome to the unwritten rules of con going topic!

Here you can tell everyone what you think should be apart of con going rules wither they be trivial, funny or completely serious. This may be something you think new con goers should be told, things to always bring or how to go about doing the many different activities. So have at it!

I'll be keeping a running list of what people think should be on the unwritten rules of con going bellow.

Be kind
Don't put others personal rules down
Have fun!

The most important rule in con going is the 6-2-1 Rule.
6 Hours of sleep per night.
2 good meals per day.
1 Shower daily (soap and water are your friends)

Don't know if this has been said:

Two rules that co-exist with each other
1) Walk AROUND someone trying to take a picture of a cosplayer, not through it D<
2) At the same time, do not block a huge space just to get a picture

Lol, I love some of the rules that people have up here.
But mine are pretty simple.....>>
1) For the love of all that is holy, shower! Don't make me send the axe ninja on you! (A friend did that at anime oasis. lol)
2) Ramen is cheap. Eat it. It's at least -some- nourishment. Wanna know what's better? Peanut butter and jelly. It'll cost you 5 bucks to get the stuff for it, and you just fed yourself for the entirety of the convention.
3)Watch your money. If at all possible, keep it in a zipped up bag, or somewhere you can always feel it. Thieves do prowl.
4)Please don't run around at 4 in the morning through hotel hallways. People don't appreciate being woken up by you. Go onto the main con floor, if you must. Hotel staff needs entertainment, right? ;)
5) Water, water, water! ramune is good, sure. But it dehydrates you, just like any other soda. Carrying a bottle of water is helpful. -especially- in hot costumes. This one is from experience....
6) watch your costume. If it trails, get a friend to carry it for you. You don't want your hard work ripped, right?
7)Don't hug/glomp/attack the painted person. Any damage that happens to your costume is your own fault then.

I can only imagine, any repercussion from you or was the paint bad enough?

luckily all my clothing this year is rather durable, and I have a fancy non-breakable prop to say hello to any random glomper!*

XD I think the paint did it, honestly. of all the times not to have a set on....>>  I was more worried about fixing the duct tape, ya know? No flahsyflashy wanted.

And I know what you mean! It's so nice. No paint, no blood, and I'm always in a suit that buttons up somehow.

I like these rules, myself.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maOk2inUjLg

Note: there's a little bit of swearing, but not too much.  (Three, I think)

Simply put...
Rule one - NO SMOKING!
Rule two - Have ID (drink resposibly) (no underage drinking)
Rule three - No weapons (NO GIANT MONSTERS)
Rule four - SHOWER!!!
Rule five - No drugs

RULE ONE: Just because someone is dressed as your waifu/husbando, does not mean that they are your waifu/husbando. Odds are you do not know that person, so just going right up to them and treating them as such is going to get you some very painful results.

RULE TWO: Try not to stare at people. If they notice it's really, really creepy and some people might run and go tell someone in their group that happens to compete in bodybuilding competitions and that will not end well for you.

RULE THREE: Card 'em first.

RULE FOUR: The game is over. If you tell me I lost the game you are a Poozer. If you get the reference you're still a Poozer.

I could probably think of more, but they would all involve swearing and rage so I won't.

Rule One: Unless you have jurisdiction to order me around, don't order me around!  (This is more of a staffer-to-staffer rule, but I feel it's important enough to point out).

Rule Two: Sacrifice a maiden (virginity in tact optional) to Haruhi once at the beginning of each con day.  The sacrificing shall be taken care of by three members of Con staff, and will be done in public.  (Because Haruhi finds more humor with more wittnesses).

Rule Three: Feed me.

Rule Four: Twilight is BANNED!!!  FOREVER!!!

Rule Five: Make at least one bid in the Charity Auction, whether you hope to get something or not.  Participation is part of what makes the event meaningful.  (That, and it's for a good cause).

Rule Six: Feed me again.

Speaking of sweating.....

I always make sure to wear a tank top and shorts (if costume had a skirt) under my cosplay. It really doesn't make that much of a difference as far as warmth and that way you have fabric between your body and your cosplay.

On the subject of stincky people. I volunteered at Scream at the Beach for a few years and we always had 1 to 2 people who didn't bath before coming to scare the pants off of people. This was a problem because scaring people turns out to be quite the workout and so while scaring people they'd also severely offend the customers with their scent and we get complaints. So one of our lovely lady directors decided to have a person walk around with a large bottle of fabreeze. I wish we could do that T^T It works wonders when you go up to someone with a bad odor and spray them with fabreeze...

1. stepping inside the con space does not make you Japanese
2. stepping inside the con space does not make you immature, that is just you so stop
3. stepping inside the con space does not make you cool
4. stepping inside the con space does not make you popular
5. getting a glomp does not mean you are the best cosplayer ever
6. getting a glomp does not mean you are going to get raped
7. getting a glomp does not mean you should return flying glomps to everyone, from behind
8. stop being a child and act your age! (unless you are a child... then act older!)

nap when ever you can
eat often (carry snakes and water on you so if you have down time you can revamp)
drink caffeine when ever you can to keep awake
eat lots of sugar (but don't over do it)
be polite
empty viewing rooms are you friend, lay down when you can and rest your feet
know your limit, there may be a point when you've had enough and you need to take a break
pre-register, and pick up info night before so you can plan your day.  i use a highlighter so mark things i want to see or do so i where i need to be

Follow the 6-2-1 Rule

6 hours of sleep a day. I know this sounds impossible, but even if it is in small blocks, 6 hours out of 24 is a must to stay healty, and moderately sane, during the con

2 decent meals a day. A meal does not consist of pocky and a Ramune! I mean real food, something with protein in it, veggies, and complex carbs. Also, orange juice can be a life saver.

1 shower a day! Really, shower, please. If you don't have a room, borrow a friends key and take a quick shower, using soap. Then put on deodorant. (Foamy's rules for A-Kon is a must see, google it or surf over to You Tube).

So Remember 6-2-1 For Kumoricon Fun! ;D

Aww mamakat, you know I think I would do a 10-5-2 if I had a hotel.  You should take naps on peoples laps when you are a bit out of energy (even if the staff don't want you too, hehe).  If you run around a lot you are going to need lots of food and at a shorter intervals.  Bathing is your friend when you are in a room with 300+ people all dressed up in warm layered (or furry) clothing and all exited, they even have a pool that you can have fun in.  Swimming is not a substitute for a bath, however.

Sadly I'll be traveling to and from the con so it might be more like your 6~2.5~1.

Would think that the 2 should be showers and the 1 should be an awesome big meal.  Then again, that's kind of the way that Jews used to live; a big breakfast and some small meals during the rest of the day.
