ChibiChibiCon - A free anime convention?
« on: November 12, 2009, 01:40:59 am »
http://chibichibicon.wordpress.com/

So, after looking this over, it seems pretty legit.

I'm thinking of attending, but I'm not sure yet. Is there some sort of catch?

Does anybody know anything about this?

EDIT:
Hey all.

Yeah we are a totally legit con. We had about 300 people turn out for ChibiChibi Con 2009.

As for the date, yeah Saturday, Feb 20, 2010 is not 100% official. But for most intents and purposes it is. It should be final some time in December.

We will have many more events planned in the coming months, but for now our plans are to have:

4 full-sized lecture halls showing anime from 10am to hopefully 11pm.
1 Room full of board games, card games, and roleplaying games.
1 Room full of video games.
1 Room likely to be reserved for the Ball Jointed Doll crew.
Several rooms for panels.
A much larger room for vendors and artists that will have likely have internet access.
Free wireless internet all over the place.
Food from our student run cafe.

If you have any suggestions or questions just direct them at me or post them on our forum

Creation Station has run fanfic events there for a couple years now. In fact the event used to be run by folks who are staff/panelists of Kumoricon's Creation Station!
It's small, but warm & friendly, from what I gather.
It's on the campus of Evergreen.
The problem is that because it's a free campus event, the organizers are at the mercy of the school booking system; they don't get to pick their date (or even the month). So generally we only get a few weeks notice of the date before the con happens. It's usually in February or March.
If I can make the $ happen & the roads are safe, I aspire to be there :)

I'm kinda puzzled by the "10th anniversary" part, but it looks like it has a lot of potential for fun. And with this many recommendations, I'll definitely be there. ^_^

Thanks for the heads' up on the date, are you sure that's for next year rather when it was this year? They don't normally know this far in advance.

My girlfriend went last year with some friends. From what I hear, it's not really worth the drive from Oregon, especially if you're the only driver. But if there's multiple drivers in the vehicle you're taking up, it shouldn't be too bad!

I've run panels with the Creation Station there for the past two years. Last year, Jeni headed up the Creation Station planning for that con, with me as a co-pilot. We ran the room pretty much by ourselves for the day, left PDX at around 6 in the morning, and left Olympia sometime after 1230am. Jeni and I also judged the Cosplay contest, which was fun, and something neither of us had done. ^^

Jeni and I are heading up the Creation Station crew at CCC again this year (and are really really hoping we don't have to drive up and back in the same day again).

We'd love some help! If only to help give out supplies and hang out in the room with us and such.

There is a possibility that I may have room for one extra person coming from the Portland area. But it depends on the supplies we take.

Not necessarily. Especially if it's a small con, and there isn't a whole lot going on. It takes gas money, puts miles on your car, and all around wears you out.

From what I know, it's definately the 20th and it looks like there's a lot planned for this year. I heard someone from the organizers say it might be two days, but it looks like this year it's only 1 day.

And for anyone wondering on time, it's 10am-midnight Saturday =3
