She's off forums for a bit due to a long story lol
So I figured I'd do this as a way for her forum buddies to still get ahold of her, and do fun stuff to let her know we miss her ^^

Indeed, if you can't make a phone call, letters are also very powerful messages...especially from you guys in P-town or farther. A nice hand written letter weekly from each of the MANY non-local friends she has would flood the mail & show everyone loves & cares for her.

You can use your knack for words, add some penmanshipr & write soundy a letter. When I was younger, I used to have pen-pals that I would write back & forth with. The internet was not like it is now & phone charges could rack up really fast. I had a few different friends that I kept in contact with that way. If she can't come to the forums, I say we all work together to bring the forums to her in a smaller paper format! You can block calls, ignore calls, shut of phones, or even get angry if the phone won't shut up...but you can't stop the mail from coming!

Which brings me to an idea I thought of while sitting here at work...might seem odd, but hear me out...I say we get a notebook & start a thread in it just like the forums. We could title it Soundninja's Dojo or something in the likeness of that. We then take said notebook & circulate it via the United States Postal Service to all of those who want to "post" in it. We would all use our forum names so everyone knows who is who & either color code or just draw lines to separate posts. For all of us in Central Oregon, we can just all write in it at our meetups so that it always ships to/from sarge's place...I'm sure the peeps from P-town would be able to do something similar so that it only has to ship around from a handful of locations. We would establish a thread on forums to help manage its location & next place it travels. Postage is cheap enough that it shouldnt be an issue to fund. I know it seems like a lot of work, but this would not only be fun, it would also show a level of commitment, to our friendship with soundy, that is like no other. Maybe with a project like that, it might show her family that we are all like family to her & refuse to lose her. We could even keep it going for fun if she is able to come back to the forums. I may have been over-thinking because I am upset by the situation...but let me know what you all think...oh ya, as for PM's, you can just stuff notes or little sealed letters in the envelope for her. I would be happy to buy the notebook.

Her parents are only half the problem. Distance is the other. Are any of you willing to drive there and back, or beg your parents to, whenever a major meet hits? We can't and should not expect for her parents to have to take her constantly down. Showing we care is all I think we should do, so things don't get worse.

Also a good point...there are only 3 of us in HDC who drive & 2 of us work a lot while the other is in school a lot...so we do what we can with proper planning but can't always free up time for travel. Any help in this is always helpful.

one thing i like about soundy is that it would be hard to not be her friend. she is such a nice and accepting person that once you are her friend, its not easy to see her go away, even temporarily.

I think that she just needs more time to hang out with the friends she already has, and that is hard because she lives so far away.

All of the HDC guys are trying to get a chance to hang out with her too, so we are doing what we can to help right now.

i am currently trying to make a plan to go down and see her within the next couple weeks.

The thread would be for keeping track of where it is/giving the address of the next recipient. It'd basically be a "thread" with our entries as "posts". Lemme know what you think so I can get this going ^^

I come from a controlling family so I know very well how her parents are thinking... Cutting her off completely will only make her bitter towards her family or try to make a fake friendship... This is also something I learned in a Working with Children class. (Not that she's a child! haha!)

I think we made her really happy last night at the meetup...she seemed extremely excited the whole night, up until she was picked up. I gave her a big hug for everyone...about winded her o.O She sends her love in return!

Also, if we are going to get the notebook, everyone likes the name Soundninja's Dojo? It fits its purpose in a sense if you think about it.

1. Why does Soundy need saving?

2. What did her parents do/say that makes us need to write her letters?

3. Are people that are mere acquaintences encouraged to write to her?

Okay, so... rather than everyone (esp. the people who don't know her) reaching out to her, I really feel like this situation is best left between her and her closest friends on the forums. If her parents see messages from complete strangers they'll probably only become more leery of letting her come back on. After all, some of us can't say that we're her true friends. :/
If being on here is hurting her grades, it's probably not the best time to flood her inbox. Besides, I think that having a few really good friends keep in touch means a whole lot more than a ton of acquaintances. Seriously.

I'm sure her close friends now who they are :>
You guys probably mean a lot more to her than a bunch miscellaneous forum people. The only reason why I choose to not participate is because I don't really know her well enough to say that we're friends. Who knows, maybe someday I will.

If we all end up bombarding her house with letters and calls it's probably just going to make her parents frustrated, I'll sport a 'Save Soundy' bar because I do miss chatting with her on Facebook, but I don't think people should be too aggressive about "saving" her.

As long as she has the support of her close friends she should be fine, and the time away might be good for her if she really is having toruble balancing certain aspects of her personal life. Sarge will be back before you guys know, and all will be fine =]

I understand where you're coming from. Personally, I prefer quality over quantity and would rather be contacted by the people that know me and my situation. Since I'm not Soundy, I can't speak for her. Who knows, maybe all of this is helping her. Maybe it's not affecting her ability to socialize locally or improve in school. I do agree with Dubaby though. It's really none of our business to pry into personal family matters. As frustrating as it is, I really don't see how any of this is going to make her parents loosen up on her. In fact, I think it will only make matters worse. Let her close friends be the ones to leave her messages. The best thing we can do as a forum community is sympathize with her and her situation and be supportive of her and her friends.

So as not to confuse anyone, because I don't like the idea of writing a letter to someone I
only know somewhat if I don't know why we are needing to bail her out or for what reasons.
I prefer to know the whole story before i go baraging a parent with spam snail mail about how
much we appreciate their daughter and telling soundy that i care only sounds like I'm just trying
to make war with her parents.

But this whole Thread (up until my questions) sounds like a desire to flood her mail box with love
and support... which now sounds like NOT what she needs, she needs to go ride bikes with some
of the local friends that she has (apparently there are 9 of which, as noted on her blog) or do
something outside of this group here. I mean, whats to stop her from getting those local people
involved in Anime, then kumoricon, so she can create a group in her area that goes to events
and car-pools and the like? If she enjoys the convention and it's meet-ups, maybe her close
friends would like to get involved.

I vote for this being something her close forum friends deal with, if they need more help from us,
they can pm us, but since this seems to be a personal issue between her, her friends and her
parents... a call to arms of the forums is not a good idea I suppose...

People seem to still not listen lol...she DOES have local friends(ie. HDC are all local friends) & we do hang out every weekend. We weren't taking about EVERYONE sending letters either...the thread was mainly to arrouse the attention of certain people, who have all met soundy & had meetups with her in P-town & at cons. They all know who they are...it does not apply to everyone.

On another note, she was very happy this weekend to see everyone making an effort to keep in touch with her in any way.
