Are you artisticly inclined? Do you like to draw or create artwork?

Kumoricon is looking for someone willing to create the cover of our program guide.

If chosen, you will recieve a free badge as well as a free artist's alley table.

Requirements are that it be 8.5x11, 300 dpi, CYMK color, and TIFF format.

DEADLINE: July 5th 11:59pm

Is there any sort of theme you're going for? Any sort of hint would help, even though I've already got an idea planned out. But knowing now would let me change it before I finished it already, and valuable time, and blah blah.

All the guidelines are is that it be fitting for the convention. I'll post links to our logo and our chop for people to use:

Kumoricon logo

Secondary "Chop" logo

As for the dpi/CYMK/etc stuff, that all has to do with it being a digital file. If you're scanning in your artwork, you'll want to use those settings on your scanning program.

You can submit as many as you like, but only 1 will be the winner. And you can submit either, but I suggest color, since that's what the cover will be in.

Would it be ok if we included the hotel that K-Con will be at in the BG or will that be against any regulations?
As well...there isn't any kind of specification for the "mascot" as far as I understand correct?

Using the Doubletree hotel is fine if you're drawing it, photos require approval from the hotel.

What does 300 dpi, CYMK color, and TIFF format mean? I want to enter a picture, but I don't know any of those... :oops:

CYMK is a color format, sort of like greyscale and RGB
TIFF is a special format for pictures, similar to .jpeg and .bmp
i believe 300 DPI is a setting for high resolution

adobe photoshop might be the best way to change your picture to meet their needs

i'm sorry for asking another question, but does it matter the way you color it? for example: adobe v. prisma? i'm personally better with adobe and dont have any supplys to color it traditionally.

Sorry, I just got back from AX, it's been a busy weekend.

We would prefer an original character, and they will be given preference, but if your artwork is outstanding, then we'll work with the companies on the copyright issues.

just a reminder: our Fan Creation Station (last year it was the Beta Station) will have not only fanfic contests, but art contests, as well!

these are the categories that are announced before the con:
best canon-based character, scene or universe
and
best original character, scene or universe

digital, non-digital color, and non-digital black and white art will be evaluated separately.

all art media are welcome.

nothing rated x or nc-17, please.

there will also be spontaneous additional contests throughout the weekend.

each category will be evaluated both by me as judge, and by peers/congoers.

art may be submitted to me ahead of time (online or by snail mail; pm me or post if interested); or it may be brought to the con and submitted at the fan creation station.

art will be accepted through 9pm the sunday of the con. however, public voting will begin 9pm the saturday of the con, so the earlier you get your piece turned in, the better your chances of getting votes from the public.

the fan creation station will have free materials available for those who want to make non-digital art on-site: pencils, pens, paper, markers, crayons.

for those who wish to submit art they have online, there is a tiny office right at the entry to the con hotel that has a free computer and printer.
