I still perfer if it was at PSU again, especially since it's easy to get to, thanks to the max green line which drops people off ON campus.

I agree; PSU would make a great location.

Ummm, we would be looking at 10 hours in transit to and from this place.

If it is in fact going to be there, uh, count me out. The pros do not outweigh the cons in this case.

I'm not stating anything officially, but honestly...

This late in the game, we probably wont be able to have a full on K-lite. Which is why we have
wanted to have several little events that people can go to.. I'm not willing to put the kaibosh on
K-lite completely... but coming up with the ammount of volunteers, the scheduling of programming
and the dates... I would really need to have had a viable option appear mid-february at the latest...
there is a lot of communication, rules and regulation hashing and logistics that goes into even a
day con...

But, I will certainly keep the option alive, be it for this year or next year. There is no reason NOT to
have K-lite in a place far from Portland... to diversify the locales... but, I would have to hear support
for it.

Thats all I have to say on that, I am still intently watching this thread... and crossing my fingers... you
never know!

It's basically a tiny, tiny convention for a day... Or kind of like a big, day-long anime club.

... Or kind of like the last day of mewcon, minus the vendors and big panels.

... Then again I don't think we've had /any/ panels at K-lite except that year it was around halloween, but I don't think that was even called Lite? O-o

K-lite is a free or low costs mini-convention we hold in orbit of the main convention.

We normally would prefer it be completely free to guests, however there is always potential
for some small costs to arise that need to be offset. But attendance should never be anywhere
as much as the main convention!

However, this means we have to have a place that is willing to host us at NO CHARGE (think
school facilities with Anime Clubs on premises willing to "host" K-lite)

Each year it is harder and hard to find these kind of facilities and realistically, in order for us to host
a mini-convention like this, I (or the Facilities Liaison of that year) need to find a venue before March.
Any later than that and planning and preparation becomes a muddled mess, and the event may be
able to be run but trust me, it wont be as fun as a well planned and executed party!

Right now I have NO PLANS for a K-Lite this year because I just wasn't able to find an Anime Club that would offer their space to me or ask me to help them get the mini-con approved by their school.

FOR FUTURE REFERENCE: This is kinda my thing. I'm really good at convincing corporations, venues, facilities, schools, groups, parents what have you to do things I want them to do. I know the proper channels and I know the documentation. If you are a member of an Anime club who in the future would WANT to have K-Lite hosted at your school but are unsure of the process or incapable of taking the reigns yourself PLEASE e-mail me. I can help! Our lifeblood is those Otaku of the school age, from High School to College and supporting the local Anime Clubs is a BIG priority for me. If you need help STARTING an Anime club at your school, contact me on that as well, there are many ways to get a Japanese culture club running in a school that requires educational value for all clubs!

So,

I have few things on my mind as of right now (thats a lie)

And I figured it's time to resurrect this thread and it's contents.
A lot of you are back to school this week, and what I want to know is;

Who has an Anime Club at their School? College's are preferred (easier to
host events at) but High Schools could be possible too.

Who is involved in said Anime Club and wants Kumoricon to host a fun
event AT said school in conjunction with said Anime Club.

Who can get my the information to contact said school board/dean/principal/
governing body in conjunction with said Anime Club to have said event.

Ah, that was fun typing. Saying it back sounds weird though. Regardless;
Who among you can take up the mantle of talking with your clubs... I know
that Vancouver has an awesome school that might want to work with us,
but I need contacts AT the school, to get us there and get K-Lite back in
the game!

I think it might be easier to look up all the schools in the area (colleges) and just go down the list.  If you call up, they should be able to tell you if there is an anime/similar group established at the school.

Yeah, you'd think that, and then you'd show up at the school with an e-mail address and a dream and realize that half of the "Anime Club"'s That are listed on any given college campus are actually clubs that disbanded four years ago, and then you've wasted half your day on a pipe dream and your on an unfamilar college campus on some weird side of Hillsboro that you have never been to before, and you get lost trying to get back to your car, so some guy who happens to be into anime and wants to "Start the club back up again" gives you his e-mail and tries to get your phone number and almost follows you back to your car but you make a b-line for the gift shop so he loses your trail and then you have to run to your car, but once you find your car you get all turned around cause you are freaked out by the creepy stalker anime guy and you end up in St. Helens which is nowhere NEAR where you should be, and by now it's Dinner time and ALL YOU WANT IS A CHERRY COKE!

But like... I haven't done that or anything.

Side note: The People at Linfield College in Mcminnville will pretty much give anyone's e-mail address to anyone off the street, isn't that a bit creepy?

Yes, yes it is, sorry for your trouble.  Wait, don't the clubs all have a president or something who should have a number or email listed when you ask about clubs?  I know nothing but It would only make sense to have something like that, how else does a group do anything?  I thought colleges were suppose to be organized, you know cuz all the people there are "smart and stuff," and should have thought of this already.

I'm the president of the Clark College anime club this year (again), so if Clark is going to be considered, we can get ahold of me.  However, since KCon '11 will be in Vancouver, I'd recommend somewhere else as a primary option, and Clark as a "lasat resort".

Is sonic lipstick as effective as a sonic screwdriver?
Just had to ask.
We are actually having a panel for kids to make their own "sonic screwdrivers", after our Doctor Who panel, at the Creation Station at Orycon this year!!

That said....
Does anyone know if alums get the same privileges to arrange for meetings at their alma maters? I have never tried....
