Fred Myers sells Pocky
« on: June 03, 2005, 11:22:51 pm »
Its true. I am not joking.

I went to the local one, and found it in the Hispanic/Asian food section.

I asked if all of them sell it, and the stock person was pretty sure they all sell it now.

Our store only had Strawberry and Chocolate, but I live in a small town, so bigger ones should have a bigger selection. The prices for ours was Strawberry single for $1.49 and the Chocolate twin pack for $2.99.

Pocky for the masses.

This makes it ALOT easier to get, doesn't it? :D

I recomend everyone check into this, and post if ya can find the section its in at your local stores.

All the Fred Meyers in Eugene sell it, far as I can tell - they have for a couple years now.  It's becoming a frequent occurrence at our weekly games...

I've seen it at WinCo too.  The cheapest in Salem is at an Asian foods market where you can get the regular sized chocolate or strawberry boxes for $1.

They also have those filled pandas and Yan Yan for a buck as well.
The trick is not minding.

That's Cheap Pocky!

$1! Lucky... The Safeway next door sells it for almost $3 for the two pouch box. That's more than double what I pay at Uwajimaya. I bought a case after Sakuracon in Seattle.

BTW - Don't try the Chocky. You will be filled with bitter emptiness in which you contemplate the futility of the existance of cheap knock off brands. (simpers)

I really want to try thoes Panda things. D: Does anyone know if they are any good?

I'm going as a Pocky Box for Halloween this year. I'll probably paint on the back of it 'Sorry, I don't really have any pocky.' 'Hahaha, You though I had pocky,' I will replie to Aislyn. 'But. But it's misleading.' 'Your moms misleading- Ohhhhhh.'
o-o UM. I'm done.

The panda biscuits are very good.  Yan Yan is great too.  If you are unfamiliar, Yan Yan is a bunch of plain biscuit sticks and it comes with a frosting cup that you dip the sticks in.  good times.

I do, but they're so cute. And yes, Uwajimaya in Beaverton is the cheapest place for Pocky and has the most selection too. If anyone is ever over there, try the Green Tea pocky. It's good.

I second that.  ^_^

Also, if they have them in the states, try the banana and chocolate Pocky.  They're not too bad.  Not the best but worth a try.

Nah, I'm not much of a coconut fan.  I also didn't realize there was such a flavor like that for pocky.

I tend to munch on Pocky when offered, but I don't buy a package for myself very often, because they're rather spendy for a snack.

Most people I know seem to prefer strawberry Pocky. I am confused by this. Chocolate at all times, I say... and in all things! ;) Strawberry Pocky has less flavor and doesn't go well with the pretzel/biscuits, in my opinion. And hey, you're talking to someone who loves strawberry desserts... when they're real strawberries, that is!!

Speaking of cheap knockoffs... Sailor Naboo found something around easter called "Double Dip" that was apparently an American Pocky pseudo-imitation. It was comprised of sugar candy sticks dipped in frosting.  Incredibly sugary; I could hardly finish two sticks. Sometimes I can appreciate Japan's taste for less sugary snacks. We're too fond of super-sweet stuff here in the U.S.

I didn't like the green tea pocky as much, the flavor was just bizarre, but the reverse pocky is divine!

We have a saying around our house:
"Pocky is for sharing!" (I always hand out Pocky to everyone who looks like they want some whenever I have a box.)

However:
"Reverse Pocky is for hoarding!" as it is reverse.

Gus, I had the same thing happen to me twice, where I logged in and it made me a guest.

BTW I knew it was you, even before you fixed it. :)

It's an acquired taste.
Something tells me you wouldn't like the Green Tea KitKats.  (Yes, they exist here in Japan.)
