well, there are two postings here, and there is always room with security.  If any other positions are open, we will post requests for them.  Main things that you will need to post if you're looking for a job are your location, and therefore availability to come to meetings...

Oh god, yes.  We have a guest relations guy (Zac, who was Gaming Coordinator for SakuraCon this year).  We always have room for security, and other needs are a gaming director, panel director, and a few others things.

Pick your poison.

The details for panel director are as follows:

A panel director helps gather panelists and people wishing to present things at the convention.  Some examples of this are the Mechanized Propulsion Systems Panel, a Fanfic Panel, cel collecting.  There are many different panels out there, and variety is the key.  Having a little for everyone will help keep things entertaining and make sure that they all have a good time and learn something new.

During the convention it's also your responsibility to make sure that the panel rooms are setup, and that the panelists have everything they need.  This can be helped by recruiting some programming staff to help organize your panel rooms.  Also, you'll work with scheduling to organize panels in a way that we can evenly spread out the attendees.

Dash here reporting an interest to help out. *smiles with a salute to anime*
I live near Portland (with in 10 miles of Woodburn), and I'm in the downtown pearl district almost everyday (college).  I don't know what i would be the best at helping at but I'd love to help to the best that I can(and still have time to dig the kool costumes  {apparel design major}).

(side note: a friend of mine was wroking security at Sakuracon, so i know a little about the lack of staff and lack of sleep the staff did get, and that just makes me want to be that much more of a helping hand.)

So is there anything i can do?

Is security going to get new costumes?
The security at the last Star Wars Celebration were all outfitted by the 501st Stormtrooper legion.

Is the con going to have themed security "uniforms"?

Well Josh and I were thinking having all the security people in Shinsemgumi outfits would be pretty darn cool, however prolly too difficult to pull off. Oh well.

Lazars has some really good prices on martial arts uniforms they got in bulk.  Hakamas could be really cool...  As long as people wore stuff under them, they could be shared.  It would just be a matter of people getting their own tops.

but if they couldn't afford the other half of the uniforms it's still cool.
Why?

Topless security! Whooo!!!

I thought maybe that you guys could get different colored belts for the security staff and volunteers but I don't know how seriously MArtial Artists would be offended by that.

Although, if you're going to make rewards for volunteers then you could definitely make up "ranks" of volunteers for the security team. 5 hours is yellow belt, 10 hours is green, 15 hours is blue (right order?), 20 or more is black? That'd be cool and unique!

I wouldn't mind sewing a whole bunch of Kimono type tops out of inexpensive broadcloth.  They are a piece of cake to whip up with the serger.

I would just leave the bottom long and serge the hem so it didn't start to fray, but it would need to be tucked in.  (Or the new owner could have it hemmed).

The real belts are expensive and aren't worn with Hakama anyway...

I'd suggest pickiing up the material in....

hakama aren't so easy to make though... they aren't hard, but they'd take a lot more time than tops.

hmmm... security all going around in hakama... I can see a problem with that... running up and down stairs... or getting stuck in the escalator (sp).

barg... it would be cool though.

The Hakama would have to be purchased.  Lazars realy does have some good prices. They also have regular martial arts pants (less expensive). They also see white and black belts.

The thing about Hakama is that they really are "high water pants."

Also, even if they weren't people ride escalators every day in jeans that are too long and don't get sucked in.

My summer school schedule has me in class Monday-Thursday from 5:30-7:30 for the next 8 weeks starting this Monday.  The last 2 weeks or so I've been on so much vicodin from my root canal (and related dental owies) that I've been kind of out of it.

I can bring in the white top I made to show what I have in mind sometime.  I won't be able to make the beginnings of meetings, but I can still come once class is out.  If it's a go, we can decide what colors to get in private. I'd like to make sure to order in bulk ASAP and start the project.

The other option would be for me to make the tops and and perhaps have someone else chip in and do some of the hemming.  That way the tops could be worn over jeans.  (I'd still rather see Hakama or martial arts pants, but that could add up).  Maybe Lazars would give us a discount if we purchased them all at once?  This would NOT be a con expense, people would have to buy their own pants and belt or Hakama.  The material for the tops would be inexpensive and I'd love to sew them to really give the security team a distinctive look!

well, I believe I have access to a surger.  but I'm not sure.

I brought it up at the last meeting, and people seemed interested, so if you can make the next thursday meeting, we'll see what we can do.

My class is at LCC and it gets out at 7:30.  I have a reserved (close) parking place at the U of O, so that isn't a problem.  Will the meeting still be going on a 7:45?

Edit:
Oh, Neato update!  One of my classes got cancelled, so I'm now only in school 10am-2pm.   I know you won't believe it till you see it, but with that schedule, I'm full steam ahead for at least the Eugene meetings now.  I'll still need rides to Portland (I've got gas money!)

"There's no such thing as too much security at a Con! >.<"

lol, I got in collosulcon 3 unnoticed like 2 times in the same day, and once again the last day... but it doesn't look like they really cared about checking passes.  And I know, posting that makes me look like... well, a few choice words (total @$$ maybe?), but hey, If I can sneak in your humble little con... can I get a granola bar!  And I'll actually try this time instead of  literally skipping through the back door!  DO YOU EXCEPT MY WAGER, HUMANS!  OR!  DO I HAVE TO SLAY ALL OF YOU WITH MY INSECTIOD ARMY!  CAPABALE OF LEVELING ENTIRE CITIES, AND HAVE BIG PIONTY, MANDABLE LIKE TEETH THINGYS!  AND BREATH FIRE!   DESOLATING THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS OF PLANETS IN WICH THE LIKES HAVE ONLY BEEN SEEN IN THE WORST SCI-FI TV SPECIALS YOU CAN ONLY BEGIN TO IMAGINE!!!  AH HA HA HA HA!!!

So... did I get the security position or what?
