I'm not an official source on this one but I think there is nothing against doing it as long as it does not stop you from doing your duties (like a gigantic prop or soemthing) as I saw Kylite as Walter from Hellsing a few years ago, and I think I saw a Black Mage in 2008

As already stated in this thread IF YOU READ IT, yes we can cosplay, but no props and you still wear a sash.

ok...I gots a more specific question.

I was Human Inuyasha this year (nobody uploaded pics of me T_T) and I was mistaken as a yoji a few times.   If I were to get the Yoji symbol on it (like the regular jackets), could I use that?->if my gf doesn't kill me
Wouldn't need to make a new one for me. I am thinking about redoing the top so I can have pockets anyway :)

I'm not a yojimbo, yet, so I don't know but... I imagine the point is your hands need to be free at all times,
also I doubt while on duty you should be doing many photo ops so almost all, if any, props should be not
allowed because they will hinder you from running after or making sure people are safe. Anything besides
neccessary tools of the trade are probably going to be more of a burden then a help.

No carrying props while on duty. When not on duty, the only thing you have to worry about in regards to that is the con prop policy.

I doubt anyone would make you put the festival symbol on it.  They might ask you to wear a sash, which you can tie anywhere, (I wrapped one around my hand :/ ) or not bother wear one at all.  Big red outfit with a well visible staff badge is pretty good.

Just curious: Was there much confusion between red armbands = yoji and red armbands = Haruhi fans? I'd think there would be some, but I didn't notice enough of either to get an impression.

Haha, yep, I always cosplay. I wore 3 different costumes this con, but I end up not wearing a sash/haori because I was in the office most of the time unless needed elsewhere :P

Think I am going to make my own sash for next year if I decide to staff again (which I am sure I will).

Although it's not neccessarily a good "title" I like the basic idea of what yojimbo actually
stands for; "Hand for Hire" or "Task Force"

Yeah... Task Force sounds really cool... we are THE Task Force... lol!

It might be a good idea to change the name of the thread back... it gets abbreviated in the main window as "Yojimbo (Quality @55."

While that may be true, it's probably not a great idea to advertise it that way. (^_~)

Yes we're allowed to cosplay, but no prop weapons; face masks; or face paint obscuring your entire face while on duty.  I had my Princess Daisy cosplay on this year.

Alright, I've already tentatively signed up, but I guess... I'm looking for a little advice/reassurance? I'm planning on purchasing a table in the Artists' Alley, but I figure it'll take two people to man it anyway and it only comes with one guest pass. Hence, volunteering - partially for the discounted admission, admittedly, but also because I want to get involved.

So, I'm wondering if anyone else has tried something similar before? Will I probably end up spending the entire con either on duty as a yoji or manning the art table? Or is it possible to squeeze some playtime in there, too?

If you have your own table in AA then you will be there most the time.  If you were just helping someone with a table in AA using a get in kcon free card you will still probably be helping to man your table and help with sales most the time.  If you were just going as yoji, depending on how dedicated you are, you will still get to see some stuff.  Though you might also get to walk around and talk to people while your working, roaming ftw.  Just make sure your not a total social butterfly and you are doing the job you signed up to do WHILE ON DUTY.  I don't actually remember seeing roaming yoji (though I saw some stationary) down in dealers hall, so if you think you could just watch over AA, that might not be doable depending on how the new operations director wants things to go next year.  Did that answer your question?

Okay, so it really sounds like you can only do yoji or AA. Which is fine with me, I'll just have to uh. Cancel my sign-up... ness.

But you also mentioned something that sounded as though you can actually get two people in if you buy a table. Like, the person who signs up for it gets in, and then the pass that comes with it is for an extra second person. If that's true, then it's a load off my mind because I've got another person who wants to help me but might not be able to make it, and this way I won't have to depend on her coming.

No date for the first meeting after elections has been set.  You will need to look periodically at the calender to find that out.

I do believe that staffers made them. I can't exactly say what will happen this year, as of yet, but I do have a ridiculous amount of cloth sitting in my closet that can be used for similar en devours.

i don't want to sound mean but read the first post it says 16+ so i don't think so, and to me that's to young. if it was 18+ it would be better because we wont have a 21 year old drunk hitting a 16 year old kid which i don't think that would happen do to kumoricon being so peaceful.

So, quick question. Is this a volunteer position, or an actual job? If so, I'm curious as to how much the salary is. Sorry, I love the k-con, and would love to be part of the inner-workings, bu I would need to know how worth it it is.

Every Kumoricon staff position is volunteer (yes, even the directors).
But if you don't treat it like a job (although fun one, mostly..) you might think twice.  Its a serious event with real people counting on us un-payed volunteers to keep them happy or face doom >.<"

Its been awhile since i posted on here, but after reading the past few entries it seems everyone wants the rewards of working instead of working to give others (the con-goers) a rewarding experience. When i started assisting this year on ( i think ) Saturday, i did it to help improve the con and make it more fun for others, i was not looking for the rewards given to employees.

True leaders find reward in the job itself.

I met awesome fun-time peoples who want to be involved in lots of
fun time things! And I'm super pumped to help Ops and Relations this
year with anything they need! K-Con is going to be AAAAA-may-ZING!

Now that the general's are appointed, the wait begins for meeting TWO,
and the adventure known as; "Who will be staff for this year!?!?" I'm
sure it'll be a good turn out! I just know it!

I feel like that kind of scenario would make an excellent sitcom... one person sleeping all the time,
the other is constantly vaccuming or constructing furniture at 2:00am....
