'09 hasn't even come yet but it seems that there are already my boyfriend and I, 4 or 5 people from our cosplay group, 2 other people from the forums, and another cosplay group planning things for '10. The 2 Baccano! gatherings that have taken place at Kumoricon and Sakuracon have been the most fun I've ever had at a meetup, and I'm sure we can make '10 great as well. Sakuracon was the biggest group that we have gotten together yet, let's see if we can beat it at Kumoricon '10!

Good, good. I am glad that you all are doing so many characters! Since there will be so many people next year I'm going to have to come up with something else excellent to add to the Baccano! meetups. By the time that comes I will have planned...4 Baccano! gatherings? I'm sure I'll be able to think of something.

I'm kinda 50/50 on it. On one hand, if it get's more hype they might bring the novels over here and I would LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE to have hard copies. But on the other hand it's been kinda nice for the last couple years being on the radar slightly.

What the hell am I talking about though, it's so wonderful, why would I want anyone to keep away from this jewel.

Best anime ever, IMO.

Definitely one of my top 5. Was watching the dubs and the 'gangster' drawls they had when speaking was pretty cool. It's a very interesting plot. And yeah, I suppose it's good a ton of people don't cosplay it, that keeps it precious, so that when people know when you're cosplaying from it, it's special and not like, 'oh look, its another person from Baccano!..."

This anime is so wonderful!!! However, it is a two faced coin - one face it is so wonderful that I want to watch all the episodes now so I won't be sleeping... the other face is that all the gore and innocent death and gurgling/cracking sounds it produces kinda ensures that my sleep wouldn't be peaceful anyway.

Conclusion? Baccano is better than sleep! Isn't that amazing??? =D

And I have been recruited! I hope to be cosplaying as Czeslaw in 2010. ^^

I don't even have to dye it, it's the perfect blend of blonde and brown (hard to tell in my webcam pic though)
btw, totally considering going to Sakura-Con 2010 for my first time EVER! I'll only be there for a day or 2 though, and I'm hoping to get one my friends to cosplay something Baccano related, she still needs to watch it, but if she does go then Sakura-con will be her first time (yes, this friend is different than the one I went with this year)

It is soo difficult to find olive green stuff like that. Especially since I have a big head, trying to find a hat big enough took such a long time. And I actually have a hat I ordered that is too small, if anyone ends up needing one for Firo!

Well, in Baccano! everyone plays the lead! Though Jacuzzi's face tattoo is kinda a dead give away.. I woulda thought Miria and Isaac together, especially in Miria's train dress, woulda been more (if not just as) recognized so that was a bit of a surprise to me.

Not enough people know about Baccano! But I guess it's better than it being ridiculously popular, huh? XD

I've already started working on Czeslaw but that is because I hope to have him done by November. ^^ I have his hat, shoes and bowtie. Okay, so the shoes and bowtie are right outta my closet (thank you high school band) and I know where I am getting everythin' else 'cept for the button up shirt. That will probably come 2nd hand too though, just haven't found it yet.

The jacket is proving to be the most elusive but I will be vigilant with my thrifting!!!

Hopefully I will be able to go up to Portland soon to look for Czeslaw's clothes. The real adventure will be finding places in Portland though! I might have to recruit a travel guide... XD

Also I spoke with a few of you about planning a Baccano! meetup outside of a convention, so we could go to a train station or something of that sort and take pictures, go to dinner afterward, etc. When do you want to do this? I'm afraid that Issac and I wouldn't be able to do it until after November due to moving, school, akicon, etc. Plus I gave my dress to my mom to fix since I lack the time to.....and I'm not sure when I'll get that back. I don't know how cold it's going to be in December so perhaps we should plan something for February or March? It's far off but it could give everyone sometime to finish their costumes and stuff.
(I don't even know if it gets warm in Portland in Febuary, I've lived in Central Oregon where it is damn cold until like, April, so any people who have been local longer can give me a heads up!)

Also should I make a thread for this in the plan your own adventure sub forum? If I do, I WILL be putting a cap on it like I did for the Pokemon meetup for cosplayers and picture takers only. Though if you guys in this thread want to bring someone else, talk with me and we'll see what we can do

At this point planning for Feb or March would be nice 'cause I'm not sure if I am going to be able to complete Czeslaw by November. *glares at lack of incoming money* And I would hate to miss this awesome event! D=

And from what I've found the average temperatures for Feb in Portland is 37 - 51 degrees (F) and March is 40 - 57 (F). Aaaand then there's the rain that we all loooove, right? =P

If we can just avoid the rain I think Feb/March would be alright 'cause most of our cosplays are like, suits and such... well, except the women who wear dresses... But that's when the men are gentlemen and hand over their jackets!

It's a Japanese(?) petition for a second season of Baccano! I highly doubt it would happen, but that doesn't mean I don't want it to. Instructions if you want to sign it:

Idk. Cosplay shoes are so annoying... at least her's are based enough in reality that there's a chance they might be re-worn. Majority of my cosplay shoes are only for that - cosplay. Takes up space, bah. XP And they're usually boots... seriously... what is with anime and game creators and BOOTS.

Really? Huh, I never knew that. ^^ I just always considered anything higher than an inch to be a "high heel". But I'm no shoe man, just a converse freak. =B

So, I think I am going to take photos or vidz or something of my 21st century Czes jacket I snagged at GoodWill today so that might be floating through this thread tomorrow... once I wake up. I'm having the most awful time getting to sleep tonight. =(

But man, that one jacket is being such a pain to find. I read around that like, in 2005 and 2006 single breasted jackets with peaked lapels were widespread but now I can't find them... and when I do they're black and like, 80-200 dollars. The stuff I find in thrift stores are either not brown and if they are, they're... hemmingway? I think that's what you call the pattern. Basically they're not a solid color. *siiiiiigh* Looks like a trip to Portland is still in my future, our Salem GW and other stores just don't get fresh blood as often as they say they do.

Plus side is - all this researching suits has taught me a loooot about them. I now know a lot of vocabulary I didn't before and found this amazing forum of, basically a bunch of folk who love early 1900's fashion... well, mostly the 20's to the 40's. It's called "thefedoralounge" and there's a lot of really good information in it's posts if anyone ever needs to look up this kind of stuff. From head to toe these folk talk about it. It's pretty cool.

So I finally decided on a Baccano cosplay after being indecisive for the past few months XD

I'm going to be doing Chane for Sakuracon, which I'm pretty excited for because it turns out I already had the boots for it hidden away in my closet. I'm not sure if I'll wear it again at K'Con, but there's a possibility I might throw it on for the photoshoot or something depending on how well it turns out. =]

I put a random hat on in the last one so you can see what it would look like better.
Also, my boots are still shiny. They're these crappy rain boots that we got from walmart that just happened to look exactly like what I needed, so I decided to take some Shoe Polish Wax and rub it on. Looks like I'm gonna need a second coat, but it is significantly better than before.

well I guess I shouldn't be complaining that it didn't work since I was half-way experimenting.
I don't have any FW ink, so my mom gave some other brand of caligraphy ink

it just looked horrid, so I washed it out.

I think now I'll gather all of the blue permanent markers I can find in my house and test the Sharpie dye method

I've never really understood what FW ink was... I think if I ever was to dye a wig I'd hand sharpie it mostly because I don't trust myself to 1) break open those sharpies and 2) mix something with favorable results.

I was bored so I drew out my plan for Eve's outfit. I was worried, but now I'm feeling more optimistic about it. I just need to get myself some muslin to practice on, then some pink rayon.
Speaking of which, has anyone here used rayon before? I want to be a fancy pants and make Eve's costume out of rayon since it was a popular fabric in the 30's for women's clothing. I'm just worried I won't have any clue how to use it or what kind of thread to get.

My base dress I ordered for Chane arrived today (I know my limits, there was no way I was going to learn how to make that dress from scratch...) and it is AMAZINGGGG!!!! It's practically perfect, all I need to do is raise the hem to about mid-calf, do the detailing on the top and straps, add the black rose to the corner of the bust, and finally pick up the black gloves that I need. So Selucos (Pat) turns to me and says:

Been focusing mainly on other cosplays since Chane is almost completely finished, but I got my contacts today which is pretty exciting. They are a little browner than her natural eye color, but it was the only golden/brown eye color available at the place I went to, and I was too nervous to order online for my first set.

Anywho hoping to get the dress hemmed sometime this week, my Spring Break pretty much starts Monday so I'll be able to really start turning things out these next two weeks before con. =]

I'll be working on Czes over spring break. I have to make the jacket, recolor the hat, and fix a collared shirt to be a less collared shirt. (Technical terms, whoo!) I can't afford a new one so I'm gonna mod. Also dunno if I'll be dying my sweatervest to a darker tan or not yet. We'll see.

Not 100% sure if I'm actually going to use my contacts for Chane or not, they are almost TOO brown for my liking (they work perfectly for my other two cosplays which is why I didn't try and order a lighter pair, and I didn't want to spend the money on two seperate pairs...) so some time this week I'll pop one of them bad boys in on one eye and post a comparison to see what you all think looks better (natural color or contacts.)

Also got my gloves today, and my dress will officially be ready for attatching all the lovely detailing Monday evening. =]

I'm re-dying my pants for Rachel today
also....I found a jacket from when I was little that looks EXACTLY like Rachels!
....except it's dark blue T_T it also has a hood but that could be easily removed.

I think I'm going to try and dye it, the only problem being that if I dye this jacket then whatever I use to make the hat won't be the same shade of green.
oh well, if dying doesn't work then I'll just cut it up and use it as a pattern to make a new jacket.

Color remover is your best bet of using that jacket but I think the lightest you'll get it is a lighter blue... depends what the jacket is made of.

At least you have it to make a pattern out of.

This path is sounding increasingly familiar to what I have gone through with Czeslaw's jacket... hmmmmmmmm.... >.>

eh it's made of nylon, the box says it should still work fine but I have a feeling I shouldn't waste the money :/

it looks slightly duller after just one washing, if I washed to fabric in warm water a few times, would that be harmful to the fabric at all? (still new to working with fabric)
I also got some tan liquid dye, just in case.

EDIT: okay so I tested the color lightener on some scraps and rather than fading the color, it acted more like bleach and left golden specks everywhere (I used a very small amount of the powder in the box)

I'm just gonna have to go with what I have, at least for practice if anything. This fabric is leftover from what I used for our school play so I'm getting reimbursed for the money, so basically it was free. I'll go ahead and make a jacket and hat, if the color doesn't work out/I screw up, then I'll just have to start over with something else

The fabric should be safe to wash a few more times to fade it as long as it's not dry clean only. I dunno if Nylon is or isn't.

Also, if you use the tan dye I suggest using a fraction of it to tint the fabric.

And hey, if worse comes to wear you can do just that - wear the threads to look more like hers! Sometimes clothes just need a little love to get them that extra mile.

Just a theory though. Hahaha.

Oh, I have two curling irons I would be willing to lend you guys. One is bigger and one is smaller.

Also I'm not sure if I really want to do Eve anymore. I'm not super pumped about the costume, and I'd have to go buy special fabric they don't sell at Joann's, and I'd have to buy and style a fancy wig. Overall it seems expensive without being worth it.
Plus Eve is in like three episodes, I'm not sure people would even recognize me.
If you guys really want me to, I'll cosplay her, but otherwise I think I'll drop her.

And I always thought Eve was an important part of the story... but then I always see that final scene of hers fishing Dallas and his crew outta the river as being a huge OMGTHAT'SWHATITMEANS because we never knew what they were doing there until the end and it was another huge wrap up moment for me.

I totally understand not being psyched about a costume anymore though. I'm going through that with a couple of mine.

Cosplay isn't everything - I personally don't think there should be any pressure to do so. It's your call. =)

I agree with both of them, while it'd be super awesome to have you do Eve, it's not the end of the world if you don't do it. People drop costumes all the time, not a big deal.

So far I havent seen anyone cosplay him....and he's quite unpopular but I wish to do him either way~

Just to be on the safe side by "yellow" I hope you mean a good variation of blonde. Yellow hair rarely looks good in real life. x_x

M'kay, well, the initial thing I'm worried about is achieving that "pulled back" look with a wig and not having the wigline show. =/ Ya might wanna try experimenting with that and see where it gets ya. If we can tackle that it looks like simple styling (may need to be straightened a tad).

It might be easier too to go with the looser style we see in-anime as opposed to the still art...

I defiantly agree with ren to go with a style more like the anime. If you want to do whats going on in the first picture you are going to have to buy matching wefts and sew them in the wig....it won't be fun and won't look very good I think. I think with a bit of styling gel you should be able to get it to look good, but Ren's more of a wig master then me.

What I was thinking was that we could try that artificial hairline tutorial that's floating around. The wig is probably a lot longer than needed, so we could cut some hair off the bottom, behind the first layer of hair.
And/or we could do a looser pulled back, although the bangs aren't super long and I was planning on just geling/hairspraying them back.

Katie - I've rarely dealt with styling products but I think geling/hairspraying the hair back would be a poor choice. That would look highly unnatural for a young girl of that time period to do and sprayed wigs to stay in place... well, 96% of them look bad (from what I've seen).

And I know what artifical hairline tutorial you're talking about. It's cool and all but I'm curious - why do ya wanna do the super pulled back look?

As far as the bangs being too short - they look fine to me from the picture you provided. If not then a little creative cutting may help camoflauge that. It'd be a lot easier and a lot less complicated than creating a false hairline.

Oh, I meant gel/hairspray just to keep them in place, because I thought they might be too short. Not like slicked back, that would look weird.
Anyways I thought the hairline would be good since the wig's hairline is a bit obvious, and I have a short forehead, which would make it worse. Also you can see Eve's hairline.

But if you think we can do it without any fancy styling, that's definitely good to me! The less chance of a horrible mistake, the better.
