Ahoy there.  I'm going to a Digital Arts school in Everett, WA.  One of my teachers is a level designer for Arena Net.  They just came out with their first game, http://www.guildwars.com, which is FANTASTIC.  (At least the beta was.)

My teacher, Ely Cannon, has worked on movies before he got the job at Arena Net.  (Two of his titles were Catwoman and I, Robot.  He says don't see Catwoman.)  He is a great teacher and a great guy.  He has TONS of information about 3-d modeling, animating, and making games in general.  He is also a fantastic artist.  He may not be Japanese, but I'm sure many people would like to talk to a professional in the game industry.

I emailed the guy in charge of guests about a week ago, and he hasn't gotten back to me.  Ely is INTERESTED in being a guest for the con.  It would be foolish to pass him up.

So, can someone give me a reply about this?  I'd like to let him know.

Okay, I still haven't gotten a reply about this.  Ely would be a fantastic guest, and I'd like to tell him one way or the other whether the con wants him or not.  He WANTS to be a guest.  Would someone PLEASE get back to me on this?

Because of our limited budget, we don't have the resources to invite him as a guest (flying them in, housing and feeding them), but we'd love to have him as a panelist.
We currently have a fairly complete guest lineup, but nothing that we can fully announce yet, but I hope that we can do that soon.
I will inform our Programming director about him, and see what we can work out.

He wouldn't need to be flown in, as Portland is not that far from Everett.  He would need feeding and rooming, though.  If you can't afford that, then I'll see about him being a panelist.  Is there any way he'd get a discount on the room, or would he have to pay the full fee like all the other congoers?

I'd like to see him as a panelist as well. Though it doesn't sound like it has as much to do with anime as other things. Would con-goers be interested?

though staff and not congoer per se, i would personally be interested in this person providing 2 workshops.

(a) how one becomes connected to hollywood; how one presents oneself, how to build a portfolio, how to make connections, who within hollywood might be open to meeting budding animators, etc.

(b) how one creates one's own     , gets started in being paid to be involved in gaming, what kind of jobs are available, who's hiring, what they look for, etc.

I asked him, just a couple of minutes ago actually.  I'm in class at the moment.  He is interested in being a panelist, so that's cool.  I'll point him to this thread and let him say what he'd be willing to do.

I think that sounds very interesting. While he may not be japanese, game design is still a relevant topic. BTW... I played GuildWars during the beta weekends, and even ended up buying it. It's an awesome game and I love the gameplay. I enjoy that it doesn't feel like every other mmo where you're competing with a whole bunch of 15-year-olds that live with their parents and have nothing to do but level up their characters all day... how refreshing...

hello, I'm getting the panel ideas together and I think that he would be great to have. They usually offer discounted prices at the hotel, he shouldn't need to register but will be invited as a panelist. This is labor day weekend, is there a particular day that he is more interested in or would the whole weekend work for him? I would like to spread out the panels throughout the days for people who can't attend one day could see him another probably with slightly different topics also.

I will get him to post on this thread.  I have class with him tomorrow, and he can answer any questions you have.

I did find out that he does have to register. Preregister is the best, no line and cheaper. sorry
