Since it's been decided that this is definitely something we're going to do, I figured I would redo the first post and give you guys the revamped rules, the team leaders, and the when and where.
THE RULES:
Since sending texts, let along PICTURES, can be pretty expensive, we will keep the number of teams to five. The owners of the cell phones for each group will be the team leader and will have the final say on what the clue will be, where the next location will be, etc.

To choose which team will be IT first, the team leaders will play a game of tournament rock-paper-scissors until a winner is decided.
After an IT team has been chosen, they will be given a time limit to reach their first destination and send out the first clue. Each clue must come with a time limit. (An example would be, "You have ten/three/five/etc minutes.") The time limit tells the remaining teams how long they have to decipher the clue and reach the destination before the IT team moves on to another location.
After the time limit is up, the IT team will move on to someplace else, take another picture clue, and send it out with a new time limit.
This process will repeat, with the IT team trying to make their way back to the 'base' before the other teams can find them.
The team that finds the IT team, will then take over their position, and the game will reset.
If the IT team makes it back to the designated base (after spending at least X amount of minutes away from it) without being found, then the IT team wins, and can choose to either play as the IT team again, or choose which team to become IT next.
THE WHEN:
We plan to do this on pre-reg day around noon.
THE WHERE:
Inside and within a one block radius of the hotel.

I've got a great idea for how to get everyone to be able to play, even if you might not have unlimited text, or aren't able to take pictures.
We could see about making sure at least ONE person in each group has a cell phone that can, and that person will be the designated 'clue sender' person. What do you guys think??

Well we have the plan to make it so at least ONE person in each group has a phone that can send and receive picture messages, so if need be, you can go with another group and them BAM you just made some new friends. xD

When we're at where ever the base is going to be we'll all just divide up. If someone who wants to play doesn't have a cell that sends/receives picture messages, then you'll go with a team that does... IDK there's no real logic. If you want to be on a team with someone, be on their team.

Yeah, I was thinking that we'd probably all stay within a block or so of the hotel. We don't need out of towners running off and getting lost... That'd be a really bad idea and we'd end up getting scolded by someone, which is never good.

We'll probably pick a place time and date when it gets closer to k con. IDK where the Hilton is, so I'd have to leave finding the where for the base to somebody who knows the surrounding area.

As long as it's not during the Mock Battle (Which I doubt it would be XD) or during a IIDX Tourney (Though I doubt IIDX will even be there >_<) then IDC, I'm gonna be there all three days lol

I would prefer if it wasn't during Cosplay Chess (hopefully I'll be in it this year) or during the Super Smash Bros. photo shoot.

And here's an idea. After we get done, we could upload the pictures onto the forums (assuming we're posing in them).

we are kinda doing something like that for hide and seek at the mall....but I agree it would be a lot more fun outside of the con. That way we weren't away from the fun for too long

As long as we weren't running and being disruptive they shouldn't have a problem with it.

Perhaps if each team had a designated "Text" Player. The one who has unlimited text and would be willing to give out their number to the other two teams "Text" players. Beyond that they may have to be willing to receive calling just in case the game has been won by the other team already and someone needs to get the memo out to the other players. Perhaps there may even be more teams than just three?
Are these teams also going to be randomly divided up? Chosen by a captain? Group by people who know each other? These will be interesting to see worked out. Based on the observation of location, I assume we'll be playing in the building instead of roaming outside? Unless we're roaming max of 3 blocks or so away. There's also Pioneer Square that we could take use. And the shopping mall!!! Just throwing out some ideas. Hope this works out for the rest of you.

I think it would be cool if we did it at the hotel on the first day. (It would be like tag meets Where's Waldo!) But we could have one or two practice runs so we could get all the kinks worked out for Kumoricon. We could have one of them at Lloyd center.

I have unlimited text. And I would have to say if this was going to be DURING the con I wouldn't participate. I much rather hang out ant take pictures of people in costume than run around. Though if it is the Friday for pre-reg check in that would be great ^_^

What about the Waterfront? If the weather is well, we could have a large game of tag with people there. We could also have a select few people be 'It' and wear something that signifies that they are the chosen ones.

Okay, so is everyone one okay with Pre-Reg?
What about the where? Where do you guys think we should meet up?
Front desk would be the easiest location to find. Just kinda stand off to the side looking nonchalant so the counter people don't get all "What're you doing? MAH!" and stuff...
As for the way we pick teams... There can be however many we want, with however many people we want, it's just about going with who you want to go with. That's it. so if you wanted to team up with nikki, go over and be all like "Hey, want to be on a team with me?" and she'll be all like "Yeah! Come join our awesome team of doom!" and thus, you're on her team. Honestly, that is the logic behind making teams.
As for who's it, we'll probably do tournament rock paper scissors between the Phone Holders (remember there has to be at least ONE with unlimited text and picture messaging in each team) then exchange numbers and set out.

Also, we will stay within ONE BLOCK of the hotel. I'm not from Portland myself, and staying within eyesight of the hotel is the best way not to get lost. We really don't need the trouble that comes along with someone getting lost.
If we decide to move the game to another location, we'll all meet up, make sure there's a 'safe place' in case someone DOES get lost, and then have at it. Sound good?

And did you say there was going to be a time limit for the round. Like you have 30 minutes to find team ____ then we start a new round. And how are we going to transition to the new "it" team? Like the first team to find the "it" team becomes the new "it"?

So, say you take a really weird picture - like of the hotel restaurant's menu (remember, the goal is to be sneaky with your clues) - and say something like "You have five minutes." (Like the Saw movies) That means the other teams have five minutes to figure out what the clue is (that's why the more cryptic the better) and get to the location.
If none of the teams figure it out in time, the IT team will move on to another location, take another picture, and send the second clue with yet another time limit.
The time limit and the deciphering are what make it epic in my opinion. xD

No, the IT team will be trying to slowly make their way back to the base. Just like in regular tag, you're trying to get PAST the person that is IT to make it to the base so you're safe, get it?
But everytime they move to a different location they have to send another clue.
So, for example, say that the IT team is over in the lobby. They take their picture clue and send it out with a time limit of two minutes. If after two minutes no one has found them, they move on to...say, the restaurant inside the hotel. They will take another picture clue, set another time limit and wait.
Does that make more sense?

No, there will only be 5 teams.
If there's more people (we have 15 right now, so as it is it'd be like 3 people per team if we get five) then the groups will bigger, but five teams is enough. If we start splitting up more than that I'd get a little antsy about everyone being okay. The more concentrated we are, the better.

With the list of people I have who said they were interested, plus the team captains, we have 15 people. With five teams that's three per team. While it SEEMS like over kill, It's better than having a large amount of people (like if we had 7 in a team) because it's easier to keep track of everyone.
My main priority is I want this to be fun, but what's even more important than that is that everyone is safe. Larger groups may be more fun later on when everyone is more comfortable with the surroundings, but I really don't feel like taking the chance of having someone standing around and then their group moves on and they don't notice. Then they're lost, and might not have a cell phone to contact anybody. I want to avoid something like that happening at all costs. Okay?

I'll be setting up the game room at this time, but I have a cell phone with unlimited text/picture messaging if someone wants to ask me if they can borrow it. I absolutely need it back by 9pm Friday evening though. I'll just hang out with Sean or someone if people need to contact me during that time.
Charly, I'd prefer that you be the one carrying it (AKA leading the team) out of anyone, because I know you enough to trust you not to abuse my phone. Other people interested in taking me up on this will have to ask, and shouldn't expect a "yes" without a lot of hesitation unless they know me pretty well.

If we theme the teams, I want Robots or Zombies...preferably both.
EDIT: The hotel actually encompasses two city blocks. I recommend these boundaries:
West Boundary: SW Park Avenue
East Boundary: SW 4th Avenue
North Boundary: SW Morrison Street
South Boundary: SW Madison Street
The total area would be 20 city blocks.

I wouldn't say full swing. I'm not going to count my chickens until they hatch, and my chickens happen to be the cost of moving up to Portland. I'm for sure going to try and put away some money for k con, but again. No chickens just yet.

That's the general "after graduation" plan. Tifa and I are going to spend the summer working full-time in hopes of moving up to portland sometime before k con (in theory)

You should come to the Portland Bemani get-togethers if I ever get those rollin' again.
So, since I'd rather not see this planned, then canceled due to complications, we should get a back-up plan going, such as an alternative date or something.

Well, I think the date should work, sounds like K-Rock just might not make it. So we may need to find a way to work around it.
