Well, the other topic for this game was locked and old, so I will make a new one.
Final Fantasy: Dissidia! If you're a FF fan, I know you've heard of the game.
Well, for years it has been a mystery when it would actually come out, but it just came out in Japan in December, and it has already become the country's fifth biggest selling PSP game ever.
And there is luck for us in the US too! The release date has been set as August 31st. So we can get it soon and get to defending the world (or destroying it, if that's your thing, lol)! You can even pre-order it if you really want to, at the Gamestop website (and other places too, I'm sure).

you said it had a release date, but i already forgot it >.< was it august?? i think it was before k-con cause we mentioned sitting in the halls playing dissidia while waiting for events at the con, hehe. this game will be epic!
pretty soon i'm gonna pre-order the figures they're releasing later this year too, as soon as they put them all together in one set instead of leaving one out like they did with the mini trading arts ones... o.O the figures look amazing though ^.^

And isn't there another game that is coming out for the psp that is a fighting game with a lot of the main characters? Not sure if this is it or not. From what I understand it would be similar to Ehrgize (not sure if that is the correct spelling or not) but that game you could play as Cloud, Zack, or Sephiroth....as well as a bunch of other characters that I didn't recognize XD

I don't know....I found a used one for $129 but you still have to by the memory card and the games....the one I got new for $200 was a great deal ;D

Yeah, you can still find the PSP box sets which are always a good deal, PSP + stick + some game.

If I do get a PSP and Dissidia, I can promise two things.
1. I will never play Cloud or Sephiroth
2. I will only play Zidane, Kuja, and Kefka

I think out of everyone I would enjoy playing as Zidane, Sephiroth, or Ultimecia the most, but I'm looking forward to every single character.

haha, how to pass the time? Hmm, we could hold Dissidia contests. Like...make an ode to your favorite character that will be in Dissidia, whether that be a story, or a poem, or a drawing, or picture of some kind. We could do that.

Sure, a deadline would probably help keep things active and not stagnate.
So as not to rush the entrants (gosh, sounds so official, lol), how about the deadline for this contest could be April 1st. I know cosplay takes time and so does art, so I wouldn't want to make it too soon. So, April 1st, the month of the film's initial release. How's that? If you think earlier so as to do another contest after this one, that's cool too.

Well if it is April 1st I probably wont be able to enter. I wasn't planing on starting Cloud till after sakuracon. Plus this game doesn't come out till August >_>

Yeah, I got mixed up, lol. I'm bouncing between threads and plumb forgot which one I was in, lol. Yeah, Dissidia comes out in August, so yeah, the deadline could be much later then. The contest could just run through the Summer and the deadline could be when the game comes out. How's that?

Don't get me wrong, I think it looks great, but at the same time, I am definitely more excited about some of the others because...you can only have so many Cloud figures, lol. Cloud gets released as a new figure (Though looking exactly the same) with almost every game, but it's still cool.

He is the only lead character to get the total shaft as far as action figure representation goes.
Ideally, I'd like to see all of the characters from IX get made into quality figures, but getting Zidane is amazing all on its own.

i want them all, of course. but i agree, zidane looks amazing. well, they all do, lol. but i'm super excited for zidane, seeing as i have the older bandai version, and the trading arts version, neither of which look as good as this new one ^.^
and i know what you mean about cloud, eve. i've got 2 full size cloud figures, one mini trading arts figure, and another full size crisis core version on the way. and then you have the old small version from bandai, i think it was... and then they have those huge versions of cloud, plus the statue arts ones, and the ones that come with fenrir/the old bike from the game, and the original release one, and the one with the bike... and the trading arts one... lol. cloud, you're everywhere! but it's ok, cause we all love you <3

yeah, agreed. i'd love to see a figure of ultimecia. that would be epic ^.^ and kuja would be awesome. i hope they do a villain series of figures for dissidia, i would be so excited, i might fall out of my chair, lol.

Yeah, I am so ready for this game. They actually expanded the character list from the last time I checked. There turns out to be a hero and/or villain from every main FF game (I through XII). It's going to be so amazing, lol.
I just love these options! Kuja! Ultimecia! Kefka! Kefka looks like a friggin' shinigami, like Ryuk from Death Note. He looks so wicked, lol.
I just can't wait ^_^

The game contains twenty-two total playable characters: eleven heroes and eleven villains, one of each representing Final Fantasy through Final Fantasy X, and two secret characters: a heroine representing Final Fantasy XI, and a villain representing Final Fantasy XII.

You weren't missing much. XI was an online MMORPG, so it shouldn't even really count as a FF game, and XII was just bland in comparison to earlier games, but I do think it's cool who is being brought in as a villain from that one. Should be really cool to see.

It was like a dream come true, absolute fantasy, seeing these characters from different worlds thrown into the mix and fighting each other. Squall vs. Sephiroth! Tidus vs. Kuja! It was just amazing conceptually.
And visually...I was drooling.

That'd be interesting, for sure.
I just want them to make a movie of FFIX (a sequel or a movie remake, or something totally new). It is so evident by watching how elaborate their cutscenes and FMV's have become that Square wants to make movies. SO I wish they would just do it! AC was a ridiculous success, think what they would achieve if they decided to make movies of some other games?

Yup. I am hearing more and more lately from friends who have sold their PSPs and are now very very regretful because they all think Dissidia sounds amazing, lol.
So, lesson learned: don't sell your PSP!

I still say you should totally do Kuja. You'd actually do it justice (as Kuja is just too effeminate for any guy to cosplay him properly). I for one would love to see it.
And I look forward to playing against and as everyone. The way the game is set up, you actually have to play as everyone to complete the entire story. Every character has their own story to tell, so to speak, and you get it by playing them. But yeah, I just want to play everyone, haha. Kuja will be amazing, as will Ultimecia, and Gabranth, and Jecht...and everyone else, lol

Thoughts on casting? What do you think of the Japanese cast and who do you hope gets cast in English?
For me there's one person who can make me shell out for the game new rather than waiting for it cheaper, and that's if they cast Mark Hamill as Kefka. I've been saying it since the first time I played FFVI over ten years ago and I hold to it to this day. It's not just the psycho clown thing, it's his delivery, his energy, it's how he can be pants-crappingly scary and still make you laugh, it's how he can go from la-la-la unassuming to I'LL RIP YOUR THROAT OUT in a syllable, and it's how he's probably one of the only VAs who could successfully pull off The Laugh.

I've not played VI, though I want to, but it sounds like I'd have to agree. I do really like Mark Hamill's skills as an actor and voice actor and I love Kefka just from what I have seen and read, so I am sure they'd work well together.
Hmmm...I don't think I really know much about voice actors that aren't already involved in the industry, so to speak. Like, the VII characters would probably have the same VA's they have had through the movie and games, but as for the other characters? I am not sure if I can recall anyone. I watch enough anime I should know some voice actors, but nothing is coming to mind right now.
I'll post later if I can think of any.

Anyone wanna bet/hope there will be at least one Dissidia cosplay at Kumoricon this year? I know there are some cosplayers out there who have to be the first and are always ahead of the game (literally and figuratively).

Yeah, Dissidia Cloud is slightly different from AC Cloud, it's a younger, game version.

Yeah, I agree. This is the one fighting game that I am definitely going to want to play as everyone though. Regardless of whether I know a lot about them or not. I'm going to want to know everyone's story, get their moves down, all that good stuff, heh.
And if there was a way to hook PSP's up to a TV, I would say it would be amazing if we could have a Dissidia tournament at Kumoricon this year, but I don't know if it would even be possible.

There's actually this game, Itadaki Street Portable, that I plan to import for the PSP. It's like Mario Party but with Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest characters!

Yeah, if you don't mind Japanese text, it seems like a simple enough game to pick up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Itadaki_Street#Itadaki_Street_Portable (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Itadaki_Street#Itadaki_Street_Portable). They have a slightly different version for PS2, but PS2 doesn't play imports (nor does PS3, if the game isn't a PS3 game). But thankfully PSP doesn't have those limitations!

There's five figures in the set, this is the first set released of Dissidia figures. They are: Zidane, Squall, Cloud, Tidus, and Warrior of Light.

Ah, nope. I doubt they would ever release all the character figures in one big set. They tend to do things incrementally, a little here, then a pause....then a few more, and a pause....lol

Well, she already bought this first set. It is never a guarantee that they will all be available at the same time, so it is kind of the best bet to just get them when you can.

So does the battle system look like any of the other FF games to you? If you had to relate it to one game's battle system, could you? Or is it pretty new?

I would say it is most similar to Crisis Core.......also kinda like Crisis Core and Smash Bros. The one I watched there was a lot of fighting in the air. It also reminded me of Kingdom Hears. So it was kinda like if those three had kids....>_>
The fighting system is very similar (in the way you move at least) to the opening video.

Yeah, but that's granted. I just have to wake up and realize the days of the classic RPG Battle System are gone. X-2 seemed to be the last great classic RPG (or closest thing to it) in battle anyway. I wish they would go back to that style (like VII, VIII, IX, or X) for some game, but I doubt it will ever happen.

You ever play any of the Shin Megami games for PS2? Those are some awesome J-RPGs. And I know what you mean T_T
It's hard to find old school console RPGs, I take solace in TBS RPGs lol. Like Yggdra Union and Super Robot Taisen XD
EDIT: The Shin Megami games are pretty much part of the tried and true J-RPG formula btw. I recommend the Persona series for starters. Persona 3: FES can be picked up new for 30 bucks or less and 4 can be picked up for around 40 new I want to say.
As for FF Dissidia, I'm really looking forward to playing as Butz/Bartz, 5 was my favorite FF XD

Thanks for the tips! I will have to look into those games. I have heard of Yggdra Union, thought it looked good. But yeah, I think I am just going to have to go strictly non-Square RPG's if I want that old feelin', so to speak.
I'll stil follow Square, of course, but I won't depend on them for those old RPG systems.

FF II was pretty good, I recommend the GBA remake
FF V was awesome (As I've said, my favorite) I recommend either the GBA remake or a translated SNES version
FF VI was quite fun, there's a good remake on GBA

i, too, need to catch up on all those before vii. i played the psp re-make of ffii, and it was good. the storyline wasn't nearly as intricate as vii and up, but that's to be expected, lol. i started playing iii on the ds, but didn't get too far, i think i got caught up in some other things at the time and i need to go back. i also started iv on the ps1 and it was great, but got distracted again... haha. i wanna get the ds re-make of iv, because it just looks amazing o.O i've got i, v, and vi for the ps1, but haven't had the time to play them yet >.< i'm such a slacker... hahaha. also need to finish crystal chronicles and play ffcc ring of fates, and those other chocobo related games that are out... so many things to do!

Yeah that seems to be the same issue I have. The stores in the earlier ones just don't seem as good. I bet in VI it is good though.

Kefka is the reason I want to play through VI. I have seen some scenes from the game and the last battle, and he is totally the original One-Winged Angel. It's pretty funny how similar the final battles are between VI and VII.

No it's not. He's using "hamlet" to speak of a small town, specifically Thamasa.
And the "hate hate hate" line got taken out in the GBA version, which was superlame. They made it a string of incoherent half-formed insults which ended in him calling Celes a brat.

Only a couple more months for this game! Woo! If I remember right, Kahlan pre-ordered a couple copies for us. Gamestop is already doing pre-orders, and they also have an exclusive package of the game, a VII:AC UMD, and a Dissidia PSP together for under $200. I think Kahlan is getting that package. Haven't seen the PSP, but it sounds crazy awesome.

I played it and I have to say that it isn't as great as you all are hoping it to be lol. You can be like 20 levels lower than your enemy (or the other way around) and you can kill them in one hit. One.

Yeah, that'll be exciting. Up until now, we've only had voices for Cloud, Sephiroth, Tidus, Jecht, and (if any) the characters they bring in from XII. So, that is a lot of ground to cover with voice acting, but I'm stoked to see where they go with it.
Well, on second thought, I guess they have had a voice for Squall also (through Kingdom Hearts). Still, I am stoked for all the others.

Wow. I hadn't seen that one yet. I saw the other trailer they had been playing on the Dissidia website for months, but no, that's new to me.
I'll admit, some of those voices will take getting used to. Particularly Kuja's and Zidane's. I don't like that they made Zidane sound just like Tidus. Of course, it is just a second sampling, so maybe it will be better. I just picture Zidane's voice sounding young but not whiny (if that makes sense).
But, still, I'm stoked!

And I agree about Kuja. The way I imagine his voice is like this: picture Seymour's voice from X, now just raise the pitch a bit so it is higher (more effeminate) but still whispy and soft. That's how I imagine his voice.

Yeah, I think that's an awesome feature. Most fighting games don't do that. It's just the same throughout. Every character ends up the same way they started off, and I think the fact that you get to level up is exciting and should be fun. I love leveling up, haha

leveling up is an addiction, if I can't beat the boss at the level I am at then I go and level up at least 5 to six more times before going to kick it's butt.

Great plan. That's the winning strategy. I wonder how equipment and weapons will play into Dissidia. Since changing equipment and upgrades are such a huge part of FF, I wonder if you'll have the option to change them and upgrade and whatnot.

Synthesizing was an interesting part of IX; I thought it was pretty clever. It came back in a way in X when you could start modifying weapons with certain items, giving them skills and attributes. Something like that would be cool if included.

I'm pretty sure that version of the PSP is the one in the US package. I can't see them making two versions of the PSP, and giving the lesser version to the US. Japan can be pretty elitist, but I don't think they'd go that far, haha

Actually it is only $19. This series is nice and cheap. They aren't new, several years old. You can find them at TFAW in Beaverton. Some others in the series are Bahamut (IX), Yojimbo (X), KotR (VII), Leviathan (IX). Some good ones!
Still looking forward to what comes out of Dissidia.

At higher levels this game breaks down to whoever has the more ridiculous zoning game. And this game is somewhat of a combofest depending on what char you are playing. I'm not treating the game as a fighter either, I'm treating it as an action game. I probably should have made that clear my last post.
Also: if you don't know a lot about the gameplay of a game shouldn't you not comment on how someone else thinks about it?

I'm starting to think that EveoftheAbyss should stop commenting on stuff he doesn't know about. Just because we don't have reps here doesn't mean we don't know what we're talking about, because it's pretty obvious we know a little more than you do. I have to agree with ha~ma that it is more of an action game than fighting game. If this is a fighter, then so is Kingdom Hearts and Devil May Cry.

Watch his attacks end up being all girly. xD He actually fights well, from what I've heard; watched a few youtube clips. Apparently Cloud is ridiculously overpowered, though. And Zidane is the most powerful, depending on what equipments on him and your opinion. xD

Yeah, I'm trying to avoid all reviews, clips and strategies. I want to be completely "uneducated" when I get my hands on the game. I want to learn it and grow with it, rather than getting the game and trying to destroy it with the strongest set-ups from the beginning, you know? I want to be sure to enjoy it and make it last.

That sounds like me with FFIX, to this day. xD I had no idea what it was when I first played it and went "O.O HOMG LOVE!" After playing it. Still play it multiple times a year and now partway through a Perfect Game save with the Excalibur~
There's just some games you can enjoy and last a while and you play over and over, never getting bored. ^^

I'm obviously going to focus on Kuja. :P and I did a little research about how to play to game, the website actually does a pretty good quick tutorial of it. Basically there are two ways to attack, the hp, and courage attacks. HP attacks kill but courage attacks lower the enemies courage making their attacks weaker and yours stronger, when courage gets to 0 you can't attack (at least the other guy can dodge or block it all). There there is air attacks and ground attacks for both types.
And in story mode there is a little map that you have to clear with a certain number of "moves" left before you can battle the boss of that area. It kinda looks like a board game board.
Eve where did you get your game? Maybe we can go together if you got it at the Game Crazy off Hall :3

Hmm... well, I just usually go to the store and grab juices in red, blue, and yellow then mix to get the colors I want. Like paint, you know? Then I sometimes get colors it'd be hard to make, like tea and such.
Good ones are Gatorade, Arizona Ice tea, FUZE, and Crystal Light from what I've seen.If you saw what I had at the MB practice, here's what it was:
Ether: Pixie sticks
Vaccine: liquid SweetTarts
Potion: Pomegranate/Cherry Crystal Light
Elixir: Light blue gatorade(blue raspberry lemonade, I believe)
Remedy: Orange Skittles
Antidote: light blue gatorade and peach Arizona
Soft: Peach Arizona and water
There were others, but I'm sure they weren't edible. xD At least, I think so. I'm too lazy to check. I'll be remaking them, adhering more to the FFIX colors in the item menu, and will throw in gysahl greens and dead peppers soon. A good way to get a nice, palish purple is to mix three parts of the lightblue Gatorade with just a bit of the cherry/pomegranate crystal light. Once I remake all of the potions with the right colors for the game, I'll list 'em all and how I made them for the peeps. ^^

As for using candy, you can use any kind as long as the colors are all the same. E.I. no mixing green and orange Skittles. It looks dorky that way. xD But if you run out of orange skittles/runts/whatever, have the rest handy so you can just replace them all with another color. the expection was the pixie sticks; it'd take foever to fill jsut one bottle unless you're using more then one color and frankly... it looks a lot cooler mixed, liek when mixing colored sand. xD

Another good idea for some potions could be Jello. If I make a Mother Box for the FFVII people I'll probably use green jello.

Read through some detailed reviews of this game finally. As much as I trust ha~ma's judgment of any game that calls itself a fighter, I wanted to check it out personally to verify that it wasn't worth the hype. Granted, without playing it, this judgment isn't flawless, but from the most detailed and thoughtful reviews, it's clear that this game has no merits to its gameplay. I can understand why it's popular here; it fits the trend. I can see why casual/modern gamers might appreciate it; the trend of popularity for current games points entirely to casual/storyline-based games. I guess what really bothers me is how it really personifies the lack of value that serious gaming has in the industry. I can't ever see myself playing this game, because from my readings, it appears that the "gameplay" is just a method of killing time/grinding. This doesn't surprise me all that much (the only gameplay feature of FFX that I enjoyed was Blitzball), but it makes me think that Square should really stop publicizing their games as action/adventure games and just start making Visual Novels.
I think that if they did so, they could produce some of the best VNs the industry has seen, but instead they decide to clutter up their games with huge quantities of boring and tedious random battles, dreadfully complex leveling mechanics (I was actually somewhat intrigued by the sphere system of FFX, but I still found it tedious), and draw-out boss battles. The storylines and graphics have become so paramount that the gameplay is haphazard; just something to bore us between cutscenes.
Am I alone in this sentiment?

i, personally, enjoy the game play. it's taking a while to get used to it, but i think it's a good system. i guess i'm not an intense gamer because i enjoy leveling up and the "tedious" aspects of it. i find it really fun and rewarding to work hard/for a while to achieve goals and get good items/abilities. i can see how people would write the game off based on game play, but to someone who has played a lot of final fantasy, or just rpg's in general, it is reminiscent of rpg systems and has some nice throw backs to old final fantasy game play.
all in all, i see your point, tofu, but i, for one, really love the game, and that's just me ^.^
just to add in, i love that all the characters have different attributes and different things they excel at. it's fun to play with zidane because he's quick, unlike cloud who is slower, but has heavier attacks, which is nice too >.O i have yet to play with everyone though

You can't argue that FF, or even Square Enix in general, has become a trend. But there IS a reason for that: They can put out high quality games. Many will agree that their best games were made 10-15 years ago, and that's why Dissidia appeals to a lot of people. It's really a nostalgic thing. Not only that, but improvements and added content have been added to Square's favorite and most iconic characters, and most fans will buy it simply for that reason.

RPGs in general have become like this. Fortunately, the Final Fantasy series is known for coming out with something new with regards to the gameplay with every game. With a minor plotline, the gameplay better not bore us. Critics' reviews and the fanbase's reviews are always going to be polar opposites. Look at Transformers 2. Critics gave it less than staller scores while the fans thought it was rated E for EPIC!

Yeah, that's happened to me a bunch of times. xD Especially if Choco(What I call the little chocobo because the one in FFIX is called Choco) finds gysahl greens right before a big battle, like the one against Kuja. And if you have an accessory that boosts EXP 100% until it breaks. Seven-digit exp with a six digit exp bonus ftw!

One was to keep changing the time on your psp so it was always your fave day. The other was fight one of the armor guy exsomething or other at 100 in the quick battle and have his behavior set to cautious so he did Bravery attacks. it didn't matter if you win or lose you would get experience either way. But you need pp to unlock the levels that high. So what I do is fight slower characters at a high level to gain experience.

Yay I got Kuja up to level 25 :3 I feel to lame around you guys. Well it is a little harder to level Kuja because I can't replay through the level over and over so I have to do it through quick battles =/

That's how I do all of my leveling up too, Nikki. In quick battle. It's really helpful. I seem to be leveling up about every battle now, have Zidane at 40.

I don't seem to level fast. I need to change it back to my "day" so I get bonus exp :D

lol, a couple things I'd suggest in fighting to get more EXP:
- Follow your chocobo. If he is saying the next battle will bring you some big EXP multiplier, put a chocobo feather on. It will add 100% to whatever you gain in the battle, making thei ncrease crazy huge.
- Use a lot of different tactics in battle. It seems like the EXP system is based on the diversity of one's performance, instead of just winning like in the FF games. Don't rely on the same one or two attacks, spread it out a bit and you should get more of a result.
- And if your EX Gauge is full, use it! It is always a great boost to your performance.

It actually seems like the amount of exerience I get depends on how much bravery you have. And you only get experience for hp attacks. I played through a bunch of battles to figure this out. I did get good enough where I can attack a person 30 levels higher than me and keep them in a corner and unable to move and just get hit. It was kinda funny. Ulitimica is kinda stupid that way.
I was also doing one where I was on a platform and I attaked her and she fell off, I waited till she came back up and attacked again. I was about to do this about 10 times before she finally got smart XD

Yeah, that is what I've noticed. Building up for Bravery through repeated bravery breaks, and then doing an EX Burst or something can really help to bring the Bravery up to the max, 9,999.
I'm doing alright though, haven't had any impediments yet.

Nice. Yeah, I am really looking forward to playing some of you all. If you haven't yet, look into the Communicate/Friend Card aspect of the game, so you can be prepared for Kumoricon. It will be really nice to just pass someone who may have Dissidia and exchange cards to play them later. It's so brilliant.

I've got to say this right now, beware Chaos in Shadow Impluse. He is the toughest out of everyone. >.< I spent so long trying to nail him... and he was half the level I was! >.> Kept going back to rearrange my items and stuff to try different attacks, but nothing worked. >.< Finally beat him and shot straight to lvl 100 with Zidane. xD

Found a mistake! After you beat Chaos, a whole crapload of stuff is unlocked. You can buy music from the PP catalog, and the one for FFIX is called The Darness of Eternity; the song should actually be called Dark Messenger, played during the final battle with Kuja.

Found a more epic battle then Zidane VS Kuja! xD A surprising one, too. The first battle between Tidus and Jecht. Aerial combat over molten lava in the middle of Sin while Otherworld plays in the background = win!

It's going well. I really just want to unlock the Barret Wallace Player Icon so I can use it by Kumoricon (for my Friend Card). So, in order to be able to buy that though, I need to play through the different stories. I don't know which one, though, so I am just working my way through, from easiest to harder. Ok just like in IX Ultima is freaking bomb. I got Kuja to level 40 and now can fight someone at level 99. I have beat an level 99 Ultimica several times by spamming attacks XD

I didn't do the Data Install, didn't even notice it until you all mentioned it. I haven't done it yet, lest I erase all my progress accidentally. The load times haven't really bothered me anyway, so I'm good.
And, Nikki, I see your Level 100 Kuja and raise it a level 100 Zidane, heh. I want to go against you....though I'd probably lose. You sound like the kind of player I never can beat at a fighter. I'm terrible against the constant one-move-barrage-types, heh.

I was in such a rush to get that icon (even though I still have a week), that I haven't slept much and just kept playing til I unlocked it. Have you been noticing any increase in your results, Nikki? You should be getting more EXP and Gil now, just because of the higher levels.

I have my chocobo on x 3 exp at the moment. After the battle it auto saves and if you click the home button before chosing an option (rematch, return to battle menu ect.) your chocobo wont take a step and you will be the x 3 exp until you want to stop. So I have been getting about 3000 exp per attack, and when my attacks are doing about 400 hp per hit I tend to get quite a bit of exp, enough to gain 2 levels per battle :P

Everything unlocked and everything bought in the PP catalog. ^^ Now on to Leveling everyone and Accomplishments. Starting with The heroes because they're easiest to level with their sotry modes nad you get items and whatnot from them. And more Accomplishments. ^^ Probably going to go Terra, Squall, Cloud, Onion Knight, and whoever else I decide. xD

I haven't touched Onion Knight yet. Haven't had the motivation too, I am not sure if I'll like it or not. I tend to like the heavy-hitters instead of the flitty, quick guys who do minimal damage.

I prefer Zidane(Obviously); he's very fast and is actually quite strong. The only real downstide I see is that his defense is a little low, so you need to compensate for it.

Yeah, when he gets to the higher levels I really noticed him starting to balance out and becoming a valuable character to work with. I like his EX Burst special, too. Reverse Gaia, pretty cool, heh

Alright I got to my goal of Kuja at level 80. Once I get him to 100 I may move on with the story....or level up the next character I will play in story mode so when I actually get to their story it is easier :P

And as far as favorite characters go, I think I still have to side with Cloud. The way I have him set up right now just makes him perfect for function and domination, heh. I open the fight up with Blade Beam, and from there you got broken Bravery, and an HP Attack to end the fight. When I'm in a hurry that's the route I take anyway.
If I feel like getting more EXP, I make them suffer and linger, haha

Cloud Strife. Its a really good character to combo and spam move. Really great when it comes to rush attacks and chaining Omnislash.

Have you learned Omnislash 5 yet? If you already have it learned, you just go to the abilities and (make sure you have enough CP) then check the box next to it.
Then, to use it in game, you just press square immediately after the attack it is stemmed from. It's a pretty hard process of trial and error, because it is all about timing with that one. It took me a while to get used to doing it, but once I learned it is super easy and totally useful.
So, if I remember right, Omnislash 5 is stemmed from a slashing attack, right? It is an air attack, so press O from the air, and if you hit the person with it, as soon as it is over press square (you still have to be in the air for it to work), and it should branch into omnislash 5.
Good luck! I know it's hard at first.
And I totally agree about Cloud. He is my favorite character so far cause he is so versatile, despite being a little slower than some other characters. He has some really nice ranged attacks that stand to counter those spammy spells that characters like Terra and Ultimecia tend to do.

Does anyone else obsess over getting all of the summonstones? It's annoying, but I feel good having all of them.
For me are the DP Reward Summons. Those are annoying to get, but are worth it because they are manual rather than auto.

I've got everything unlocked and bought already for the msot part, so not so much for me anymore; just a few more runthroughs on stroymode with a few characters and I'm done; onto the colloseum and lvling to 100

I'm really eager to progress and check out that Shadow Impulse section, but I really want to finish the hero stories first. I only have four more to go, I think. Warrior of Light, Onion Knight, Bartz, and Terra. Unfortunately, I don't really want to play as any of them, lol.
And everyone remember, prepare your Friend Cards and learn how to set the PSP to Sleep Mode (through Dissidia, of course). Con is only 3 days away!

And I think the main benefit of doing everyone's story is seeing the entire heroes story played out. They all tie together in varying ways because a lot of the heroes interact on their paths to the crystals. So, it's good for that aspect. Other than that, you earn things (accomplishments) for every story you finish, as well as unlocking things to buy in the PP Catalogue.

Shadow Impulse kicks so much ass and is different for every character that goes through it. But bosses and each character has a special scene with their respective baddie when the baddie is beaten(Zidane and Kuja, Cloud and Sephy, etc.) and... just be warned; Choas is a serious badass. I mean hardcore; I had one hell of a time beating him with Zidane, because you have to fight him three times, one after another.

As far as I know, they're the exact same.
I only say that because I've been grinding Terra and Zidane on the first chapter and it's the same for both of them. Same DP bonuses too.

I don't think you should be able to have them all equipped [like keep the reserve system], but I do think it would be better if there was more use of it, like being able to use summons until they run out then switching mid battle.

Inward Chaos....Its hard if you aren't prepared. I have a level 100 Cecil and I'm getting my butt handed to me.

@ eve ya i have tried to find it again but cant lol i will have to see if i can even get it again. plus clouds best sword is fenrir which has an attack of 67 or 68 plus 30% wall rush damage and a slight chance of Sneak attack bounes which is only when you attack someone from behind

Oh, and I also finished the game this morning. I started Shade Impulse with my mastered Cloud last night around 10:00, and absolutely destroyed Chaos this morning around 3:30am. I was playing nonstop, and I found that it wasn't even really hard, so to speak, it was just really frustrating, up until Chaos that is. Everyone was just too fast for Cloud. He was strong, but it just was really annoying having everyone dodge his every attack for so long until I happened to catch them with a Cross Slash.
So yeah, that was frustrating, but man....Cross Slash is a lifesaver! Chaos got whooped like a baby with that one. All three forms, I took out in the first second with Cross Slash. It was beautiful, lol.
And that final FMV....sooo gorgeous, I actually got a little teary-eyed. A brilliant ending, for sure.
Lessee...oh, yeah, now that I've unlocked the Colosseum I am working on making Cloud perfect for Kumoricon. Namely, I want to get Fenrir, so I need to get the gigas bones and other items from the Colosseum. It's pretty fun so far, heh.
All in all, I am really pleased with this game and the features that continue to appear. Always something new to earn or learn.

That happens a lot. It's so annoying.
It seems to happen most with the rare enemies and the gold pieces. It gets on my nerves though. If they keep dodging I either get them trapped in a corner then use Terra's Tornado or Zidane's Grand Lethal. I love them both.

Yeah, I had to resort to some cheatery for a while there, using just the same attack if I did get them cornered. I hate playing fighters like that, but if it is the only way to win, I'll do it (against a CPU anyway, heh)

Heres how you unlock some neat stuff in Offline mode.
From the Main Menu, select "Communications Mode", then "Friend Card Settings". Select the "Edit Message" button. Erase all of your message, and then type in the password code. Upon hitting start, you will see a popup accepting your password. (Your Friend Card Message will then reset to how it was prior to entering the password). To fight Ghost Data, go to the "Offline Lobby" and select a Friend Card, then click "Ghost Battle".

I don't think there's an order to the icons being unlocked. I think you just unlock a set for every story you complete (working up from I to X and so on).

There are also a lot of icons you get for different accomplishments. Right now my highest characters are Squall at 62 then Terra and Zidane at 35 and 34 respectively. I also got the game literally the day before con :D

Yeah, there are sets of icons you unlock in the PP Catalogue by finishing stories, then there are individual icons you earn through things like Friend Cards, Mognet, and various other accomplishments.

I have completed nearly everything in the Japanese version when it first came out, and I just got the English version a few weeks ago. For the most part, the voices are pretty good/okay. The characters that actuall sound better are Onion Knight and Terra. ESPECIALLY TERRA. And the ones that I really don't like are Squall, Cloud, Sephiroth, Zidane (I STILL SAY IT AS ZIH-DAYNE BUZZ OFF), and maybe Bartz. Squall sounds like such a douche I swear, and he breathes way too much during speech. Cloud because he's still that gross depressing kid that wasn't in the original FF7. I miss old FF7 Cloud. ;_; Almost everyone else is alright.
Oh, and I do not accept these so-called, CORRECT PRONUNCIATIONS for Tidus and Zidane. I've been pronouncing them as TYE-DUS and ZIH-DAYNE for way too many years to switch now. Besides, they sound better than this official nonsense.

I agree, the pronunciations are pretty ridiculous. I always considered Tidus' name pronounced as you put it (TY-DIS), because I always figured his name was a reference to his aquatic sport and nature - water, a tide, Tide-us...makes sense right?
I definitely never considered him a teet, (I mean, he whines like a baby but that is hardly what they were getting at, I'm sure).

Yeah, the whole water/tide thing was good, and ZIH-DAYNE just sounds so much more "small and quick" than ZIH-DAHN, which makes him sound buff and uh... not very thief-like. But noooo, they had to make them sound like the Japanese TEE-DAH and JEE-TAHN.
So with all this TEE-DUS nastiness, I keep thinking they're saying "titties".

Yup, they're calling the hero from X - teetie. Shameful, lol. You would think the translation would be easier to understand, the people bringing it over from Japan would get the point of the names a little better.
The only reason I understand why Zidane's name is pronounced that way (although I don't like it) is that that is how the name is pronounced in French, from which the name originates.
Doesn't mean it sounds good, though. Doesn't really fit the character at all when pronounced that way.

I kind of wish there was some "backdoor" way of acquiring items. Like, the main way you are supposed to get things is by earning them (battlegen, duel coliseum, item drop, etc.) - but it would be nice if there was an additional alternative that also took some work, but didn't require the same tasks as the first method, you know? Like, you could buy the items instead of trading for them. It would just make things a lot easier.

After you beat the 4 chapters of Shade Impulse you unlock a Distant Glory. After beating A Distant Glory you unlock the 2nd part of it.After beating the 2nd part you unlock Inward Chaos. Inward Chaos has a challenge rating of 10 stars! Bosses are around 100+. You will love fighting the final boss (Not really).

So I finally got Cloud's exclusive weapon, Fenrir.
Guess what it does...not a whole lot, surprisingly.
It's a good weapon, but when you're at level 100 already, there's not too much farther up you can go stat-wise.
It is nice to have though. Equip that and add some Strength Orbs/Shards/etc. with it, and the ATK will really jump.

I wasnt too happy fighting other characters who were above level 100. People level and above start getting block happy. Literally I went up my opponent and he just stood there till I attacked which by the way he blocked =(. I love Chaos's Judgement rule set. Penalties for people who dont attack and just ran away!

Most of the destiny odysseys are nearly done; Zidane's is doen 100%. I am NOT even going to touch Inverted Chaos until I have a powerhouse Ziddy with all his most powerful weapons. Or most powerful in general; yay for ability mastering. ^^

Well, I'm still working on getting Omni Slash 5 for Cloud, and after that I'm gunna work on Zidane, Gabranth and Shantotto.. I put Crisis Core away for a while since that game makes me sad >>

I'm working on omnislash V5 too.. although.. Cloud is really the only character I've played so far.. I got Sephiroth to like.. lv4, and Squall to around Lv10ish, while Cloud is almost lv50.
But lately I've been playing this.. it's slightly more fun when you can get over the button mesher mentality, since I've been playing KH for the past couple weeks.

Ahhh, I'm working on WoL currently since every day is like EXP x 1.7 it's crazy, I think he leveled up 20 times in one hour, he's 57 right now, I'm trying to beat Chaos with him, but still no luck.
Ohhh I figured out how to get the Cosmos and Chaos reports, you have to defeat Chaos in Shade impulse with each of the characters, I figured this out since I beat Chaos with cloud and got Cosmos report 7.

Rodney, I had problems with Dissidia during con, before I had a memory stick, I got passed all the stories, except the bonous stories. My psp died and I ended up having to restart like, 6 times. Then Tanis was nice enough to stop my complaining and bought me a memory stick.

I just beat Chaos for the first time.
He's an arse to beat with Cloud.. I had to retry atleast 10-20 times with Lv75 Cloud >.< And that was with all Lv43 gear(highest stuff buyable with gil prior to beating Chaos).
Omnislash V5 doesn't pwn nearly as much as it does in Advent Children! I call shenanigans!

I had no problems taking Chaos on with Cloud, at level 100, with out Omnislash V5, try Chaos with Warrior of Light, it's srs bzns.

Cloud was my first character, and Chaos, on my first playthrough, first time, with Lv75 Cloud using Lv43 equipment.. is kinda hard.
Of course, that was also using abilities I hadn't mastered.. meaning, I had no defensive or guard abilities equipped either.
But I suck at the game too.

when you see that you get a times 5 exp bonus from your chocobo get in a fight you know you can win for sure.
i would say go fight against Exdeath ( i know his move sets) that or gabranth and beat him down before he can go ex mode.
put them on the easiest behavior i think it is cautious and put it on a map you know very well ( I would say go with the world of darkness because you have so much cover) then when you won the fight and it brings up your menu after the fight to go back to the main menu hit your home button and go back to the main menu of the psp. then stat the game again and you should still have the time 5 exp bonus when you go to free play

I always used calm, but I'll try cautious.. seems to be they defend a bit more in cautious.
But I didn't know about the 5x thing.. that's kinda tedious though.. I'd rather just play like 3-5 battles in the time it'd take to win 2 of the 5x battles.
Although, I guess when it comes down to it.. a 5x battle is technically worth like 5 regular battles. lol

I don't play nearly as much as I used to, still with Ziddy being the only lvl 100. And everyone else in cosmos side around 60 or so, since I'm focusing far more on getting 100% and mastering then leveling right now. I usually only play when I'm on the bus or in the car, though. xD

I've got 5 story modes at 100%, and the rest are in the 80's or 90's, with the exception of Shade Impulse. I'm shooting for the alternate/extra ending, but want to get 100% in the story modes first. Want to make sure all the characters are high leveled before they all tackle Shade Impulse to get the Cosmos Reports. Then onto fighting with the Chaos side people to get the Chaos Reports. xD
Oh, and my Zidane is officially badass now; ULTIMA WEAPON FOR THE WIN! 8D

Good luck getting a PS2 emulator to run FFX properly.. FFX is one of the more advanced PS2 games, and there's still no fully functional PS2 emulators since most of the processing is done by the PS2's hardware, not software.
But I'm content with Dissidia, God of War, FF7, and FF8 on my new PSPgo. :D
But I could play FF9 on my modded PSP-2000 though >.> But in all honesty, I'd rather get a GBA emulator, and play FF5 on it.
Either way.. I got Cloud to lv100, and my Sephiroth is around Lv49.. once I get Sephy above lv51, I'm planning on farming items, and getting his Masamune Blade. And hopefully enough gold for Cloud's lv50-whatever exclusive as well, since I've already got the items for Cloud's.
I'm more or less, going for characters to lv100, getting their exclusive weapons, and mastering all their abilities.. I'll get story modes and all that junk to 100% when everybody's maxed, and it's incredibly easy.

No, it's not. An emulator, for the purpose of playing a game, emulates the function of the gaming console to play the game. Daemon tools creates a virtual drive to make an iso appear to be a real disc.
If you pop in a real FFX disc into a real DVD-drive, will Daemon tools be able to play the game off the disc fully functionally? No. Because it's not an emulator, it's a virtual drive software. The only "emulation" function it has, is emulating dvd-rom security features on the mounted disc images. If you don't have an iso to mount as a virtual drive, daemon tools is useless and has no purpose.
But staying on topic, since this isn't about proving a 13 year old wrong, Squall is now around Lv80, and will be getting to 100 within the next hour or so.
Though.. I'm not sure who to lvl up after Squall. I'm thinking Warror of Light, or Onion Knight. Although, Zidaine is cheap and fast.. so, I could probably use him to get some wins and maybe work on getting to Lv100 exclusives.

That's odd.. mine is modded, but I've never had problems with slow load times. Maybe some of your UMD drive settings are jacked up, since all the automated settings on official firmware, are usually adjustable in CFW.

Spamming flare Star is the best, specially when you can use it on the ground =3= best spam ever. Besides Clouds Omni Slash Version 5 chained with his EX attack. Now that's some major damage right there.

For my BF's birthday last winter I got him a PSP and a copy of Dissidia for each of us. It was hands down the BEST gift I've ever given him ^^
My main is a lvl 100 Sephy (alt. look hehe) and his is a lvl. 100 Zidane. My friend card is "Cleyra' and his is "Lindblum" (both names are cities in FFIX). we played with a few people at Sakura con and hope to do the same at Kumori con. The great thing about playing Dissidia as a couple is that you get to artifact bounce to perfect your equipment ^^

Seph's quick hits hard, Cloud's like a beast you don't want to meet in a dark alley and hits way harder than Seph, he's a little on the slow side, but when I have certain items equiped he's way quick.
I'm currently working on Kuja, Kefka and Gabranth, Gabranth is my favourite, though being the only way he attacks by EX Gauge is a bit of a pain.

I've been working on everyone equally, or as nearly equally as possible.
Haha, my wife thinks I'm nuts with how much time I spend playing games rather than anything else. I pay more attenting to her than I do the games, still alot though. Like, Pokemon, I love Pokemon, I've convinced her to her her first PkMn game.

I have SoulSilver, so she's getting HeartGold. She wanted SS, but I convinced her other wise.

It's been so long since I've really played Dissidia. I've gotten Cloud, Sephiroth, Squall, and Gabranth to Lv100. And all other heroes and half the villains to Lv50+.. I need to finish getting the other villains to 50+.
And whyyyy soul silver? Seriously people, why? HG is way better. Ho-oh and Lugia aren't even exclusive, you can get both in both games.. the only exclusive legendary pokemon are Kyogre and Groudon. >.<

I guess if there's some sentimental reason based on the original, but still.. Kyogre > Groudon.

I'm not all for picking something over the legendaries, I mean, with the GTS it dosn't matter as long as they're on my pokedex.
Anyway, I'm still working on Kefka, Kuja, Shantotto and Gabranth

Anybody else taking their PSP to con for some Dissidia battling?
I've recently gotten Kuja to Lv50, and Ultimecia is around the Lv30-40 range, I believe.

I took my PSP and Dissidia to K-con this year. I was lucky enough to find 4 people who'd also brought their games, so that was a nice surprise.
If you have a PSP and Dissidia, bring it to K-con 2011, and we'll all find some place to play!

I've got Warrior of Light, Gabranth, Shantotto, Jecht, Tidus, Zidane, Squall, Sephiroth, Cloud, and Exdeath at Lv100.
Too bad I'm not actually very good at the game, and I don't have a ton of rosetta stones, or any better end-game gear than Ultima Weapon. :(

I think we're now switching to Duodecim. Or is there a new thread for that? Anyway, I have all Lv. 100's, and I'm ready to try my hand at some PvP! ...I'm gonna get murdered.

There hasn't really been a successful duodecim thread. But all things considered, it might be just as well to keep the discussion here.
I haven't fully transitioned to Duodecim yet, though, as I want to get all my characters to lv100 and, preferably, master everybody's abilities, before shifting most of my gameplay to duodecim.
