Our first mini-event for 2009 will be a winter dance, Saturday, Feb 7th. We will have the page with all the info and online registration up this weekend (Monday, at the latest)... please bear with us work at the little details. There will not be a strict dress code for this one... as always, cosplay is encouraged.
Update (Jan. 10): Minimum age to attend the dance is 14. 14 to 17 year olds will need a parental permission form, 18 and over will need ID. The rest of the info will be posted in the next couple of days

Did you order it from ebay? It should get here by the dance, it's almost a whole month away.

Yeah I got it for ebay but it is custom made for my measurements and it was going to take 1 to 2 weeks to make then 10 to 15 days to get to me after that =/

So at most it'll take 29 days? Whenever I've bought custom cosplay from ebay sellers I've always gotten it in the minimum amount of time so you should be good :3

Will my college ID work? If not, I can dig up my birth certificate. I don't have my state ID any more. :/

Good question. I will have my drivers license but I am not sure if a school id will work, most of them don't have birth dates on them.

Ok peoples:
Heres some answers for now. More to follow as Jaki officially posts more details.
Last year we had Dances that ranged from 75 to 150 people in attendance. The bigger we make these the better! But they tipically are pretty big. :)
Sorry but we cant allow persons under 14. Its a liability issue and the directors are really adamant about it. Even with parent supervision we cant allow it unless we cut the age limit of the dance to 17 and under. Its for your safety.
When we put it to a vote a while back the winner was for an ANIME dance. We are talking about a mix of music of Japaneese nature. We want to do something of an assortment in hopes to please everyone some of the time. But we do have a live DJ so he is in control of the music we gave him some content from our Karaoke collection and he has some of his own, music will be up to his discression so dont be heartbroken if you dont hear your favorite anime opening song. Im sure there will be lots of recognizable music. We also plan on having a gaming area like the swing dance last year where you can take a break and play poker, or other casino-like games for prizes.
School Ids are acceptable
If you have a permission slip you do not need an ID. (Most minors dont have them anyways...lol)
NO live orchestra. Sorry, we have allready asked a 3rd party to DJ. It would be terribly rude to cancel now.

*Also please remember that there is NO way we can make eveyone happy all of the time regarding the music and theme of the time. This is a headache we have to deal with for EVERY dance we have had in the past. If we do a ball dance, people complain, If we do a rave, people complain. But If you really think about it its a fun event for our otaku to attend and even it you dont dance there will be other things to do. Its gonna be a blast either way so why not check it out?*

Anywhoz, yeah, I don't think we'd have a problem with the bumpin' and grindin' at an anime dance. I think that us nerds/geeks/otakus/cosplayers are a bit more conserved than those dumb sickos at school dances. xDDD (Sorry if I offend anyone. >.<)

yeah, its semi-formal to formal. You can pick in that range. Jeans and Tshirts are NOT ok. But slacks and a nice shirt are. Or a simple skirt and nice blouse. Or a gourgous gown. Its all up to you.

Basically we gave him the content from our karaoke library plus I think some Directors might provide additonal music and he has some of his own.

L is a hard one. Its kinda like golden boy. Maybe if you wore blue (accurate to the cosplay) slacks, or black slacks (accurate to the B/W theme) It would be ok. But honestly if you didnt wear a wig and the face makeup it really wouldnt work as a cosplay. Ive seen some great L cosplays and some "I kinda threw this together and dont look like him at all" ones. lol. Since it is a semi formal dance I would say that slacks and a sweater would be allowed. I think jeans will still be axed.

Sorry about the delay in posting here (thank you Oslapedo for providing the link ;)).
This year's dance is the (Please Don't Let It) Snow Ball.. and if you are familiar with the masquerade from last year, and the wonderful weather we have had this year, you will know why :P.
The dress code this year is casual, with an optional black and white theme. We will have a live DJ who playing anime music, and once again, we will have the Monte Carlo gaming for those who want to take a break from the dancing. There will be some light snacks, but we will have concessions (pocky, ramune) available for purchase.

For the swing dance last year there was a table that had things like crackers/cheeze, pretzels, cupcakes (I think) and candy. Im sure it will be something simular to that.

also. problems with kanda wig so far. netting showing on the sides a bit(but that can be fixed with some well placed extensions, now can't it? and then keeping the ponytail high enough on his head. that one will take some work.

you get two cards delt face down then there are five "community cards" that everyone gets to use and you try to make the best five card hand. Same hands as with normal five card draw poker.

Unfortunatly oslapedo is right. An 18 and older dance would eliminate many attendees and I dont think we would make any profit from the dance. We would probably lose too much money...Its a great idea though. Maybe we could do something like that at the convention itself. I know some people want an 18+ singles meet up socializing event, and I think that would be something that could be pulled off. Its just finding someone who wants to run it.

Well, if you are under 18 will we will also need permission slip and if you are over ID. So, we will look at something else with your name on it. Also, pre-regs pay less and will either skip line or have their own line. I may have found a second reg person just to check in the pre-regs.

We will do our best to get you in as quickly as possible, but as Dawn stated, the layout of the place does not lend itself to allowing you to line up inside (the entry area is small). If you are unable to pre-reg, the best way to help speed up the process is to have your payment ready (if it's a check, make it out beforehand), and your ID and/or parental permission form.

It was a pretty easy event to staff. You guys all behaved yourselves mostly. Oslapedo (I assume that was you in the Kallen costume?) we started counting how many laps you made in and out of the dance area. Though we lost count, we all felt that you seem to have gotten your monies worth out the event.

I've got this Japanese permanent paint marker that shouldn't clump the black wig. It's pretty neat! I've tested it on other things and it doesn't bleed or anything. I'm just cautious on putting it on the wig, so I'm styling it all first. The only thing left to style is the back flippy part xD

It's next to impossible to get cameras to work with fog, strobelights, and all the flashing things. It's great you made these. Mind if I use a couple pieces of clips for my portfolio?

Yeah, I really couldnt dance much. Baby was sure dancing enough for me though. He either LOVES or HATES dance music. He was kicking up a storm. But I had fun watching you all have fun and serving you awesome cupcakes and snacks. And OMG the moving celing downstairs was creepy.
