Well he can handle the fighting.
And they both don't talk much.
He says he's a fan.
But What I really want to know is,,,,WHO"S PLAYING FAYE VALENTINE???
If it sucks, so what, I will replay the original over and over again.
I watch it at least twice a year while sitting in airports or on flights.

would never work. The characters are way too non-Japanese for any Japanese actor to pull it off. The fact that Bebop is as non-Japanese as can be is the very reason it is so popular in America.
Anyway: NO! Keanu Reeves would be horrible for the role. Pick someone who can actually act for a change.

I'd watch Nathan in anything (thought still haven't seen 'The Waitress,' but have read about it extensively). The resemblance to Mal is enough he could adapt, no doubt. But I think Keanu would be better for Vicious. Since he's better at being dour (especially recently as Klaatu) than hip and funny. In fact if there were to be a live-action Trigun (now that would be fun), I could see Keanu as Legato Bluesummers! Hm wonder if Neil Patrick Harris from Dr. Horrible could pull off Vash. What will they do for Ein?

He hasn't acted or talked like that since his movies of the early 90's, lol. Those impersonations can only be carried so far, heh.

bram strokers dracula, he did a terrible job in for the accent, constantine... anyone could've acted that part, the day the earth stood still, unemotional... who couldn't do that? matrix, come on that series was an old concept, what if my entire reality was fake.. dream sequence, and his character granted could do cool things but was still lame. the only thing he could do correctly was act like a moron back in the bill and ted days. At least in my opinion.

I appreciate what he is able to do and can see a lot of skill in his performances, but I have been exposed to a lot of film classes and discourses on acting techniques and symbolism and what-not, so maybe I just am able to appreciate it more because of that experience. *shrug*
I think he's good at what he does.

The subtle point here is the mean face: without it, Reeves would be on par with a wooden plank, except a bit more rigid. He approaches every scene with the steadfast determination of a moron running into a wall. I have a theory as to why Keanu's acting is so s*****: a long time ago when he "made it big" with Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, a lot of people were probably trying to kiss his *** because he became a huge celebrity and people are shallow, so they have to fill their boring lives with trivial bull**** like clinging onto celebrities. Since then, he has surrounded himself by suck-ups, and everyone's too afraid to tell him that his acting sucks. It's never going to change, because Keanu (what kind of name is that anyway? Sounds like a foreign car company) keeps surrounding himself by suck-ups, so he'll keep making s***** movies forever. At least if they replaced him with a wooden plank, the plank would have an excuse to have the same stupid look on its face all the time. "
Mind you I don't mind keanu but I will say his acting is a bit rigid- just my two cents

What I think is... Americans need to leave Japanese horror films alone... and ESPECIALLY leave Anime alone, and start coming up with their own damn ideas.

I don't see why everyone is so hateful of Keanu Reeves. Sure, he's never really been inspiring as an actor, but I get the sense that the hate is primarily just a conformist influence. There are certainly better actors out there, but there are also many much worse actors--most of the people on these forums included. ;P
I don't see why everyone needs to be so critical of every new movie that comes out.

I love Keanu~ Would not choose him for Spike though. But as Tofu said, it could be worse. I'm just going to secretly cheer that he does a good job.

Keanu Reeves is actually a huge anime fan and Cowboy Bebop is his favorite. He's directing the movie because he doesn't want anyone else to f*** it up. If anyone's gonna butcher it, better an actual fan right? I'm excited for him to play the role of spike and I think this movie could be pretty darn good.

Ew, no! His acting is...atrocious! He was good in Matrix and Constantine, but remember, he didn't talk much. And Spike is young and hawt! No. Keanu Reeves would never be able to pull it off. His acting can be good at times, but Spike is such a complex character, and Keanu is like an emotionless robot. Just no.

I don't have anything against Keanu Reeves but I think someone like James Franco or somebody would have been a better fit for Spike. Also, The people who made the Dragonball movie said they wanted to stick close to the original story because they were fans of the series, but they didn't get anything right except for the character names and the fact that there are 7 dragonballs.
The only thing I hate about the movie so far is that 20th Century Fox is apart of it. Any anime, video game, or super hero movie they own the license to has failed horribly.

Though I love Keanu and I support his roles, this is one I do not support.
My reasoning: Look at his acting in Bill and Ted's. That's the pinnacle of his career. Look at his other movies, any difference in the acting?

Well, from what I've seen, a lot of the movies Keanu has been in, he has to create his character scratch. I know that probably doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but lets look at it this way. In Constantine, his character already existed in comics, so he had material to go off of, and I think he did a pretty good job. Just to quickly go off topic, look at Ron Pearlman. He read EVERY Hellboy comic he could get his hands on (which if I'm not mistaken was ALL OF THEM), and he did an OUTSTANDING job of portraying Hellboy. Now back to Kenau. Keanu is a fan of Cowboy Bebop, which we all know is an animated series. He has HOURS of source material at his disposal for research. Couple these two facts with the facts that he doesn't want someone who A) isn't a fan and B) just wants to make a buck, to screw this up. And as a fan of the series he doesn't want to personally screw it up, and make another Speed Racer or Dragonball, so he will more than likely give 100% on this movie. So don't count him out yet, and have a little faith.

I just read it. It's good that he's a fan, and all, but I'd rather it not get butchered at all! If he's a fan and wants to direct it to keep it from getting ruined, awesome. But I don't think he should be Spike. Little mistakes ruin things. I mean, look what Hollywood did to Dragonball! It's like...Ugh, I don't even want to talk about Dragonball. I'm not saying that it's a given that the movie will suck, but I don't wanna see it happen again. Hollywood ruining a good thing, I mean.
I still say no Keanu.

egh why did you have to raise this post it's pretty much a flame here lol. Trust me if the movie is going to be bad it's not because of one actor. I don't know why people hate Keanu so much he just gets typecasted for being unemotional passive guy (which is similar to spike). To turn this into a more constructive post I'd ask who they'd like to be cast for spike instead? (Other than no one, cause if a movie is going to happen it's going to happen IE Dragonball)
