Title: What exactly is this?
Post by: Purp on February 05, 2005, 12:03:04 am
I know this is like the uber-stupidness of stupid questions but what is the Kumoricon.  I get that it's an anime/manga con but where do I find more info? I looked at kumoricon.org but I couldn't find much info.  I have never been to any sort of con but have heard so many wonderful stories.  Do you have to stay at the hotel or can you just visit during the day?  I read something about an age thingy, is the kumoricon adult?  If so I dun think my mom will let me go (I can't imagine her coming with me   )  Sorry I know so little but if I don't ask I may never find out!

Well, I'll just start off by saying welcome to the Kumoricon forums.

Then to answer a few of your questions....

No, you don't have to stay at the hotel for the con.  The hotel is just more convenient for people who live out of town.  A lot of people at the con last year who were from the Portland area didn't stay at the hotel but went back and forth from home to the con.

And no, the con is not adult rated.  If you're below a certain age, you need a parent or guardian with you at the con.  I'm not an official so could someone who is explain this part please?

Hoped that helped.

Thanks, I live pretty close to Portland so I'd probably hop a bus to get there.  Does it cost less if you don't stay at the hotel?

The price to get into the Con is always the same at the door, though if you only pay for a one day ticket it is less than a full weekend ticket.  There is no price benefit for Con tickets if you stay in a room.  It's just more convenient for people to stay at the hotel if they don't live in the area, or know that they'll be pulling so many shifts they won't be able to get home even if they do live close by.

If you are thirteen or under (Is it 13? I think it's 13.) you MUST have a parent/guardian with you to get into the Con.  Sorry about that, but it's more for your safety and us not getting sued than anything. (We figure if the parent comes with you, and is offended by anything to the point they don't want you there, they can drag you home and not blame us because they did drag you out of there.)

There is a curfew if you are under the age of 18, and you will be required to be off the Con grounds (Not the hotel, but the Con viewing rooms or gaming rooms and etc) by midnight (I need to double check that. ^.^; ) as per Portland city law.  Or Kumori Con rules.  One of the two.

But other than that it's really fun, and you really should come! ^.^

Ok, thanks for all the help/info, I'm 15 and since I'll prolly use the bus I'll have to be home by midnight anyway (not to mention my mom would kill me if I were out that late)  I hope I'll be able to come! :D
