Alright the Christmas Party is THIS Saturday Dec 13th 2008 at noon. We will be meeting at Lloyd near the ice skating rink. I will be wearing a red crop top with fur on it. I will also be wearing a black and blond wig and have a large white bag.
During this party we will ice skate and also participate in a gift exchange. PLEASE NOTE THAT SIGN UP FOR THE GIFT EXCHANGE HAS ENDED. The list of those participating is as followed:

There will also be a Christmas Cosplay Contest and in order to participate you must have some sort of Christmas theme to it. I am really looking forward to this party and anyone is welcome to come.

well the 13th is on a weekend and I think the 21st or the 20th would be too close to Christmas so I think I am going to stick with the 13th. I believe that being that far away from Christmas we would still get a lot of people to show up. Lots of people will be gone once the week of Christmas hits.
But even if we had it on the 13th you wont be in school that day >_>

I won't be in schol, but I live 3 hours away, so that's why I could only do it during winter break. It's okay if you keep this on the 13th, I might just host a seperate winter meetup later on for people who couldn't make it to this. :)

I see. The problem that I run into is that my Grandpa is getting Alzheimer and we might visit him around Christmas (leaves in the south) before it gets too bad. So if we go it will be around the 21st >_>

Sounds like fun my family… we believe that the holidays are a special time… just not to when they’re spent with the extended family. Any who the whole winter get together thing sounds great my costumes are made for cold whether (as though you couldn’t tell from the whole fur thing). Not quite sure what I’ll be dressed as but know that it’ll be a canine fursuit with some form of anime affiliation (hopefully).
I’m hopefully gonna get there, and we’re on for the 13th? I’m gonna try to cement that date, my employer’s got me worken like a dog… pun not intended. And for the Santa thing… I send you like an e-mail for that right?

so far there is a great turn out. I have about 24 people going and 23 of those people will be in the secret Santa. The deadline will be 11:59 pm on Thanksgiving. I should be able to send everyone their names by the 28th.

Also I am thinking about having a winter themed cosplay contest. It wont be anything special and I wont need any information until we get to the event. I was thinking it would be kinda similar to the one at kcon lite. Where everyone who wanted to be in it would line up and someone (I may want to be in it myself) will choose the top three or so.

by bringing all the gifts do you mean for your person (if you participate in the secret santa) and the ones that you got for other people....I would say yes. Especially to the secret santa part.

secret santa is you get a name of one person and then you get that person a gift, but that person doesn't know who gave them a gift, and someone will have you. ;D

yeah it is a lot of fun. After everyone gets their gifts we can try to guess who our Santa is then I'll tell people ^_^
And you will put gifts in a big bag or something so they can't tell who gave what based on the wrapping.

My moms makeing up some lies about how my aunt cant take me in for only 1 month at all and that im to old to be playing freaky dress up time with weird people x-x My mom is really mean and shes also starting to say no to me going....she stoped talking to me when I asked her ;3;

My parents' accept it with as much grace and patience as they can muster (which is a lot), and they get excited when they see my costume really come together. I was surprised how much my mom told her friends about Davy Jones. Normally I think it's a quiet subject around my household.
Perhaps what might be best is if you talk to her about going to a cosplay picnic, a small event with a relatively small amount of people in it, together. To make her more comfortable, it might be best if you went in normal dress. You could introduce her to us and get her to talk to us to see that we're not the fetish cosplayers who do, erm, things in costume and that we just do it for fun and to express love for a show or character. I'd be willing to talk to her as Davy Jones. I consider my life outside of cosplay to be exceedingly normal. Cosplay is just the spice that makes my life more challenging, creative, and fun.
If it wasn't for cosplay, after all, my grandma's gift of a sewing machine would have just gone to waste. I love my sewing machine so much :3 I sew normal stuff, too! Like... like pants!
EDIT: By the way, I don't think going behind your mom's back would help anything. She might be pissed if she found out.

My parents are about the same way. They actually seem to like that I have taken up a hobby and it is still weird to hear that they tell their friends about the costumes I have made

Or what if she met a few of us outside of cosplay? That would take away from the distraction of being in costume. We could bring in pictures of us in costume. Anywho, just trying to be helpful.
The Christmas meet-up would be a good way to show that we're a friendly, accepting crowd. A slightly weird crowd, but hopefully the safe side would win her over.

Ah and I might be christmas Gaara cuz ive been obsessing over all of that for a long time now!
All I have to do is find/ make a gourd and sew the clothes and then I can be christmas Gaara Yey!

For the gourd, I was talking this over with a friend, and I'm not sure how well it'll work, BUT I was thinking heavily paper mache (or rigid-wrap) two different work out balls or playground rubber balls, one more deflated than the other for the size different. Afterwards, use a glue wash and roll in sand to get a sandy feel. I don't know how well it'd stick, but I imagine if you'd use a matte fixative it'd help out a lot.
Painting the details my be hard, though.
Just a thought. I've never tried it, but that's how I'd do it if I cosplayed Gaara. You can get a string of lights to drape around it to make it christmas-y, too :D Or a gourd shaped sack of "presents"

That is the way Sara did it and hers turned out fantastic. It wasn't too hard to paint on the details. All you need is a fine brush and you're good.

Why thank you for such good ideas! XD But Ive gotten lazy after spending countless hours on Sasori's torso so I think I'll just buy that plushie type gourd at unique imports and put some wraping paper and a bow on it, Stick a santa hat on my head fix something up a little to make it a tiny bit more chirstmasy and thats about all I can afford after spending almost $300 For all of my friends gifts together.....

Hey, should I tell you my likes for the Secret Santa? I didn't do that just yet.
I can't wait to do something for my Secret Santa. I'm afraid it will have to be home-made (Since Coach isn't going to give me another work day until the 1st *repressed anger at stupid economy*), but I do have art supplies :)

Some people really don't understand. I get it from my boyfriend from time to time. My parents' accept it with as much grace and patience as they can muster (which is a lot), and they get excited when they see my costume really come together. I was surprised how much my mom told her friends about Davy Jones. Normally I think it's a quiet subject around my household.
Perhaps what might be best is if you talk to her about going to a cosplay picnic, a small event with a relatively small amount of people in it, together. To make her more comfortable, it might be best if you went in normal dress. You could introduce her to us and get her to talk to us to see that we're not the fetish cosplayers who do, erm, things in costume and that we just do it for fun and to express love for a show or character. I'd be willing to talk to her as Davy Jones. I consider my life outside of cosplay to be exceedingly normal. Cosplay is just the spice that makes my life more challenging, creative, and fun.
If it wasn't for cosplay, after all, my grandma's gift of a sewing machine would have just gone to waste. I love my sewing machine so much :3 I sew normal stuff, too! Like... like pants!
EDIT: By the way, I don't think going behind your mom's back would help anything. She might be pissed if she found out.

Japanese art for me! :D I'm a sucker for weird things like haniwa! Although information on that is very hard to find since it's not popular. Also, there's a PoTC pirate dice game available at the Pirate store at lloyd center (but I think that's too expensive since it's three games in one). The smaller model is at a calendar store at Troutdale outlet malls off of Exit 17. That's $20. On the more expensive side. If it's easier on whoever has me, they don't have to spend much on me. If I get a picture that someone's worked on or something they like that they think others might like, that's absolutely fine!
Really, I'll be happy with whatever. Even if it's home made.

I don't want to ice skate, but I might. We're either going to be Light and L, or Axel and Roxas with Santa hats. I'm not sure which, though. It depends on how spontaneous and enthusiastic I feel, I suppose.

I was able to get some fur at Joann's but it is a pain in the ass to deal with. It sheds like crazy when you cut it x.x

After you cut it if you just pull off the extra it should be fine. I had a lint roller take up all the extra stuff once I attached it. I'm not looking forward to attaching it to the shirt.....I may wait till I get home to do it x.x

My version of a lint rollar is duck tape. =D

Yeah it is getting close....how much more do you have to do? Mine is simple, attach the fur buy thigh high stocking and a hat ^_^ it will take less than a day to do. Attaching the fur will take about an hour tops :D

I wouldn't do that....really the nose putty takes A LONG time to put on and it isn't worth it for a little meet-up like this. What you might look into doing is putting glue over your eyebrows (like Elmer's glue) then painting over it with paint that is the same as your skin color.

I started styling my Axel wig around a Santa hat, it's more difficult then I thought. ~ ~

I got all of my costume done today. The last thing I need to do is find my santa hat and if I can't find it then buy a new one. I must say though that the costume looks really good and I am proud of the work I did on it. I wish I could have gotten solid strips of fun instead of having it in chunks, in some places you can tell where one spot ends and another begins but oh well.
I also would like to find a large bag to hold all the presents (preferably red since my whole outfit is red and white XD)

Hairspray usually works. I sometimes use it when I cosplay certain characters without a wig. But usually only to keep my hair in place, rather then to volumize it.

Those Chakrams are at least 7 pounds each, so they're pretty heavy, and well built, too. They probably wouldn't break unless I chucked one of them pretty hard at something. As for stealing, I'd probably keep a pretty close eye on them. I spent a lot of money on them, afterall. x.x

Here's my update on my attendance. I may be able to go for a short time, but then I'm off to Beaverton. I don't ice skate (though I walk on the rink ice when I play with my curling club on Sunday) but I can cosplay and bring something if that's alright.

A hot glue gun should work. If you are using normal Elmer's glue then it wont work, or even fabric glue >_> Has to be a hot glue gun, one you plug into the wall.

I seriously doubt it is going to snow in Portland. Anyways the snow is predicted for SUNDAY not Saturday.
Every time the weather predicts it's going to snow it usually doesn't happen. Stop stressing over it. If it does snow it wont be a lot and you will still be able to drive. And for some strange reason if it snows a lot then we will just move it to another day.

Yeah and if it does snow the roads will be fine because people are driving on them. Also because it is raining today the ground will be wet making it harder for the snow to stick.

Alright I made the certificates for the cosplay contest and I also got a few prizes for the winners. There is only going to be five winners (I don't think there is going to be to many Christmas Costumes). If there isn't enough we can let anyone join. The five categories are:
Best Christmas Costume (has to be won be a Christmas costume)
Best Use of Fur (also won by Christmas costume, though might be dropped if there is only one person with fur)

Most Creative (should also be won by a Christmas costume but doesn't have to be)

I think if we get done with all the planed events there is the Pirate store, the hello kitty store as well as an arcade we can hit. We will also eat lunch some time in there. I would plan on eating after skating....or we can go before either way. I would say we skate first though just in case people show up late. Since we are meeting at the skating rink it should be easy to find us if we are there skating XD
After we skate I plan on eating and doing the cosplay contest. Some people participating the the Secret Santa wont be able to get there till around 2 so I kinda want to hold that off for them.

The party starts at noon and will go till everyone leaves (I figure around 5 or 6). For those that are going to show up early I will be waiting at the skating rink near the stairs by the entrance to Macy's (I believe it is a Macy's). I'll have a red and white suit on with a big red back and a black and blond wig (the same kinda hair as in my avatar) with a Santa hat on. Also Patrick will be with me.
I plan on skating first then eating/cosplay contest. Since some people participating in the Secret Santa will be late I am not going to start that till around 2, maybe latter.
Alright that is all for now. If you have any questions you can pm me and get my cell phone. I'm going to be leaving about 10:25 so try to pm me before that ^_^

Why thank you. I really enjoy planing big events like this. They can be a lot of work but a worth it in the end.
As for next year (yes I am thinking that far ahead XD), what are some suggestions that you have to make it better. I would say set a time for events to happen. Like the party starts at 12 gift exchange is at 2. Also making the gift exchange so everyone can participate and no sign ups are necessary.
Anything else? Maybe a different location?

I think that we should move some where bigger, I dunno where or how, especially with the weather, but moving in that big crowd wasn't a very nice experience. And think, if we're planning this far ahead there will be even more people. X.x
Back to Demon:
I think we should aim for not Saturday. Free Skate = TONS OF PEOPLE! I realize that any other day is inconvenient. But if we're planning this far ahead, we can try for during the week of winter break maybe. Also, gift exchange, not the most organized thing. I think that needs to be fixed.

Yeah the gift exchange was a little bad and I can work on it. If we were in a bigger spot and it was quieter then I don't think we would run into as many problems. For next year I think I will try to plan this event somewhere else so the ice skating wouldn't even be involved. We can think of some other type of activity to do.

The other question, which could jeopardize my going is simply would I have family plans for those two days? So waiting, however hard it may be, is critical now.
