Japanese Rock phenomenon, Dir en grey, are coming back to Portland,
this time they are playing with The Human Abstract (never heard of them)
at the Hawthorn Theatre. The concert for Portland is December 2nd.
Please tell your friends and spread word about the show by any means!

My friend is going to pee his pants when he finds this out.
-
NOOOOOO! The second is on a Tuesday, ergo I shall be stuffed away in school. Curse my living three hours away :'(
-
Yes!!!! I was so happy when I found out. It's on Tuesday, but I will skip school just to go see them muahhahah. :D There is no way I'm missing them. Good thing I only live about 45 minutes away. :D
-
Gonna be in Seattle too. SWEET. I'm like. 20 minutes from there.
-
I need to find out where the Hawthorn is and how to get to it,
it was easier when they came to the Roseland last year since
I could just ride the max to P-Square and then walk to Roseland.
I was also thinking of doing free-lance street teaming again like
I had done last year, making my own fliers in Photoshop and then
making a hundred or so copies on the xerox at the Library north of
Pioneer Square and then handing them out to random people. ^^
-
Hmmm...I think there is actually a map on there myspace official website. I mean I saw one so yea. :D
-
agitated screams of maggots. so awesome. makes me wanna puke my pants.
-
Rarrgh!!! That's awesome! Kahlan and I will be there for sure. Rock!
-
Rarrgh!!! That's awesome! Kahlan and I will be there for sure. Rock!
Sweet maybe we can all get together :D
-
Yeah, it'd be fun to go to this show with a group. Extreme shows are always fun in groups, then you have defense against hardcore karate mosher kids, lol.
-
im more of a punker, fun circle pits shoulders and elbows. as soon as people start throwing kicks and punches im done.
-
Hmm...yea it can get a bit violent now, and then xD
-
Hmm...yea it can get a bit violent now, and then xD
That's why you make a barricade of big buddies to guard you, lol. Or you know, hurt them before they can hurt you, hehe.
-
I remember last year they came they were pushing a lot trying to get to the other side. xD
-
Yeah, I was at the July 6th show, the Deftones fans were kinda jerkish, calling people in line weeaboos and deliberately trying to slam into the Diru fans during the show. I didn't mind the 4chan jokes, I'm capable of self-depricating humor, I can laugh at myself. But when people are being physically violent that's kind of a problem. I've never heard of The Human Abstract before, so here's to hoping their fans are more laid back and less bully-ish. I wish Diru could just tour by themselves or atleast maybe with other JRock bands, it would kinda lessen the chance for fan clash if everyone was there for the same thing, but I guess the venues and organizers don't think that a JRock band by itself would get very much attendance so they throw in the American bands to compensate.
-
oooo me, me, i am going! with eve-fiance!
though i just tried buying tickets and it said they don't go on sale until tomorrow... lol
-

Wow, you are on the ball, Kahlan. Yeah, get those tix, heh.
-
Lol I should try to get my tickets soon too. :D
-
I'll be there. :)
-
Huh, interesting, I might wanna go. But it's been a long time since I've listened to DeG, they look different...are they as good as their old stuff?
-
Well obviously they're not going to break into Akura no Oka or Jealous
anytime soon, but they are working on a new album and they'll probably
be playing new songs at the show. Last year they played a fair bit of
stuff from Vulgar, mixed with songs from MoAB. Maybe this time they'll
play Dozing Green live, that would be pretty effin' cool.
-
Well there looks have change, but there music is as awesome as always.
-
So, since the Hawthorne is so close to Biwa, and is on Hawthorne with all those great shops, I was wondering if anyone wanted to try to schedule a meet-up before this show? We can get food or troll the street before the show. ^_^
-
food and meet up sounds good, but maybe somewhere other than biwa, since they are expensive for not much food >.< maybe a sushi place or something? with a sushi train ^.^
-
Freakin' sweeeeet.
I saw their last show with the Deftones and it was pretty much awesome. DeG's set seemed too short though.
I'm so there. <3
-
Well it looks like this year they're the main act, so hopefully they get more time than last year.
-
Well it looks like this year they're the main act, so hopefully they get more time than last year.
HELLS YES.
That made me sad last year.
I'm so glad they'll be headlining. :D
-
That's pretty amazing that they'll be headlining. Even though they are pretty western in musical style, it is still awesome that a J-rock band is headlining a U.S. tour.
-
The new DeG album drops in November.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uroboros_(album)
"Uroboros will be "stuffed with themes of 'guilt and reincarnation' as well as 'the past, present and future of Dir en grey,'" as guitarist Kaoru stated in a press release. This was later echoed in CDJapan's album overview, calling the album "a sort of return for the band, revisiting the pre-Withering to Death. era." Kaoru also included that the album would again be a progression into "heavier and darker" sounds than prior albums, as well as an "oriental and religious mood." The band has been recording with many new instruments, including mandolin, to create a unique sound. Vocalist Kyo will set emphasis on "non-screaming vocals", emphasizing softer composition."
I lol'd at the "non-screaming vocals" bit. Hope this will be better than MoAB.
I liked Namamekashiki Ansoku, The Pledge, and Ryojoku no Ame, so maybe
since they're going the more accoustic route there'll be more like those.
-
Ah, I'm glad to hear there will be more soft singing as that is where I think the vocals really shine. I loved the tracks on MoaB like "Conceived Sorrow" and "Namamekashiki Ansoku", so I look forward to this next album for sure.
-
im so going i just need to take some one i know with me
-
I'm buying my ticket on Friday after asking my mom....she said 'ok' right away... O__O So cool...., but still I'm not sure if one of my friend is going as well. >...<
I really don't want to go alone. D:

If your friends fall through you could always go to a meet-up with some of us who are going. ^_^ Get some food and go to the show.
-
Well, I would like that...except for the part I might go home at night all alone...It's like two hours away from my place if I go in Max, and Bus. Dont have a ride otherwise it would be like an hour away. >...<
I have a question....maybe someone can help. My mom is buying my ticket with her credit car. And it's says you need the credit card as confirmation as well to enter the concert. Can I just ask my mom to borrow it, or those she have to be there in order to confirm it?

i just ordered mine, and they can mail the ticket(s) to you for no extra charge, so there's that option, which is what i'm doing. i'd suggest that, if possible. if not, i'd probably call the venue and ask, cause i have no idea what their policy is on that.
and squeeeeeeeee for getting tickets! *is excited* woot!!

Oh they can mail it? How those that work? I didn't know. I would like them mail since it's only for me.
-
Yeah, you just go here (http://ev12.evenue.net/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/SEGetEventInfo?ticketCode=GS%3aTWS%3aPDX08:PHAW1202%3a&linkID=twspok) and order your tickets and on the Shopping Cart page, it will have a drop-down menu that says "Select Delivery Method". In that box you select "Mail", and that's it. It doesn't cost you any more to have them mail you the tickets and it is a safe way of ensuring that you have your ticket ahead of time.
-
OMG! Thank You so much! Your awesome. I hope we can meet at Con. It would be really cool. ^____^
I'm a Yojimbo, but I would like to meet you in person when I get some free time. If you don't mind of course.
-
hehe, no problem. Glad I could help. ^_^ And I hope to be able to meet you and rock out to some J-rock or something at Kumoricon as well. *thumbs up* I'm always down for meeting cool folks. And it's always good to have the Yojimbo on my side, haha.
-
Lol, Yes. I'll guard you from danger. :D
-
hehe, awesome. I've got a protector! You plus my massive cannon, I don't think I'll be having any problems at all, heh.
-
I really can't wait until the con. Just 16 days, and a few hours left. :D
Where will you be staying at? The DoubbleTree Hotel, or maybe another one?
Maybe drive from home Back, and fourth?
-
Ah, no driving for me. I'm in for the long haul, haha. I've got a room at the Double Tree for the whole weekend, Friday night through Monday afternoon. Yup yup. Once I'm in the conspace, I don't plan to leave for anything, lol. I'm all about total and complete immersion, lol.
And I assume you've got a room since you're Yojimbo, right?
*And sorry to get off topic. Dir en Grey are awesome! lol
-
Wooot! Dir En Grey are the best!!!!
Yea I'll be staying there lol.
Hmm wonder how I can find you -...- hmmm......
-
The best way would be too keep an eye out for my costumes, lol. You'll know me if you see me. Big brown guy cosplaying as Barret Wallace, not too hard to spot. Or, huge guy with blue hair and even huger cannon, really easy to spot, haha.
Or you could just say where you'll be and I could be sure to go there at some point. Like I said, I don't plan to leave the con, so I will always be around and available, heh.
-
Hmm....I'll be on...omg I don't know yet lol we haven't gotten are shifts yet. So I don't know where I will be at. >.<;; Do you have MSN you know instant messenger? Way easier to talk since we seem to get off topic a lot XD
-
haha, yeah sure, It's on my profile info page thing.
Hmmm, so Dir en Grey are playing with The Human Abstract. That name sounds so familiar....I'm sure I've heard them or seen them before. I gotta check their stuff out. I'm sure I won't like them more than Dir en Grey, though.
-
Oh! Im going for my birthday! Its only 2 days before so to celebrate the 18th how about a Dir en Grey concert?! Im excited, when I found out I got tickets for myself and 2 friends, I know a few others planning on going
-
I'm gonna try and go. I know my sister likes them, she's gonna flip when I tell her.
-
I'm gonna try and go. I know my sister likes them, she's gonna flip when I tell her.
Sweet! When it gets closer to the show let me know for sure if you two are going and we can try to hang out beforehand. ^_^
-
Roger that. I told my sister and she flipped. Her first thought is to sneak past security onto the backstage. Which honestly, with what we've done in the past, would be a piece of cake. ~ ~
-
I doubt you would have to. The way the Hawthorne is set up, most of the bands usually will come out and chill at their merch tables before/after their sets.
-
WELL THERE YOU GO. I'm not a hardcore fan, though. My sister is. Unless she somehow got to talk to them, I wouldn't want to stand in line to get to.
Or maybe I would. :-O
-
WELL THERE YOU GO. I'm not a hardcore fan, though. My sister is. Unless she somehow got to talk to them, I wouldn't want to stand in line to get to.
Or maybe I would. :-O
Yeah, there's not usually any lines you'd have to wait in. It's pretty nice in the regard of how bands will come out and hang around with the fans. I mean, ultimately it's an individual decision, but it seems like most of the bands I've seen there have done that.
-
Yeah, but with all the fans, how would you have even a 30 second conversation with any of the bandmates?
-
Well, if you can keep a band member's attention and it is clear that you're talking to them, most people will be considerate enough to just chill and wait or something, but interruptions haven't seemed to be much of a problem as far as I can tell.
-
But we are talking about Dir en Grey. Crazed Anime fans aren't always the most considerate.
-
Eh, then you just tell them to bugger off, lol.
I dunno, I still don't think you have a whole lot to worry about. I mean, you get to talk to them or you don't; it's not the end of the world.
-
I just want to avoid the thrashing around part. ~ ~
-
I'm excited. I want a picture with them if possible...uwa ~ haha
-
I'm excited. I want a picture with them if possible...uwa ~ haha
I think that if it was possible, everyone that's going that are fans of Dir En Greu would want one as well.
Including myself. >.>
-

I can dream...lol. :)
-
Yes, we can. :D
-
oh this is a truely happy day I am gonna get all my buddies to go to this and everything we are gonna be in there deep and I will once more reign champ of the mosh pit MUAHAHA
-
I bought tickets last night! Eve we'll meet up with you and Kahlan beforehand.
-
Cool. ^_^ This'll definitely be an eventful day. I'll be thinking up fun places to go/eat before the show.
-
Sweet deal. What time should we meet?
-
Umm, hmm, I dunno yet. Depends when Kahlan is off work that day. The show's at 7:00, right? We could probably meet up at 5:00 or so, but we can figure things out better later on. We've got months, heh.
-
That's true, it's not till Christmas time. :-O
-
And their new album will be out by then, so we'll have to check that out.
-
Wooot! I got my tickets today, I'm so exited :D
-
im buying mine sep 15 when i have money
-
I am getting mine tickets tonight... Ooooooh Yeah (as the kool aid man would say.... and or macho man randy savage... TAKE THAT YOUNGINS who do not know that name)
I have no idea whats over by the hawthorne and everything since I never worked in that neck of the woods n stuff... so yeah
-
Hoooooh Yeeeauh! (Macho Man was my dawg, lol. He was in Spider-man, too).
And as for things out in that area, there's tons of fun shops and places to just troll on Hawthorne. It is well known for it's vintage shops and alternative apparel places. There's also Biwa, a Japanese food place, nearby the Hawthorne. Jackpot Records is there....yeah, lots of stuff.
-
sweetness lol
Hooooooh YEEEAAHHH (loved mach man randy savage aswell... that and the ultimate warrior)
yeah I just bought my tickets so I ish good to go -dances- luckily there is a bar inside the hawthorne so yeah good times for me :D
-
haha, yeah I need to check the bar out also. I've not been in there yet, but as I am going to a show there next week I may stop in. See if they have any absinthe. ^_^
-
oh dude absinthe is the demon... lol I bought some and yeah man its bitter like hardcore but yeah if you like jager you will love absinthe lol
and yeah when the show comes around I will meet you for a drink before a hearty night of moshing lol
-
You're on, sounds like the perfect plan. ^_^
-
I know isn't it :D
I am so looking foward to just moshing to dir en grey I mean its like 4 months away but I am still giddy about it
that and having a fellow anime mosher there it will be awesome and drinks added into the mixture SWEET!!!
-
haha, no kidding. Dir En Grey really are the perfect sloshed moshing music, lol. (Not that I plan to get drunk or anything, but I can see how a drink or two would really add to the show experience for that particular band, heh.
-
for real and yeah I do not plan on getting drunk there
A way too much money
B it would kinda subtract from the show
so yeah one or two drinks and yeah it will equal best show ever with good moshing
-
Well yeah, for sure, I'm looking forward to this show like none other. I have yet to look up The Human Abstract, but I'm sure they will add to a great night too.
-
yeah I looked them up they have a myspace and stuff kinda listened to em for abit they are decent but no doubt dir en grey is what is gonna pull like no other
-
There's a really awesome Pizza place that's not far from the area,
kinda reminds me of Pagliacci's in Seattle. Perhaps a group of us can
meet up there a few hours before the show. I also wouldn't reccomend
getting drunk before the concert, as there will be many packed bodies
and yer bound to overheat very easily if you have alchie in yer system.
-
Lol. This will be my first concert. And I will be murdered. Maimed. Destroyed. Just all-around annihilated. *sixteen-year-old, 120 lbs, 5'4", physically weak, pale, and somewhat timid in person*
Especially since I am DETERMINED to get as close to the front as possible for my first concert ever. 8D
-
im going out to this Thai place right down the street from were its at for dinner the day of the concert and any one want to go with me and a friend we don't have a time yet
-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbmMrnKi1Gk
-
Great video, and I love that song. I have tremendously high hopes for this new album. Looks like it'll be a great one.
-
Does the Hawthorne have advance ticket sales at the box office? I hate the extra online fees.
-
I don't know if you can buy tickets from their box office, but you usually can buy them at ticketswest/ticketmaster locations (Safeway, Fred Meyer). You still get some fees, but I don't think it is as much as online.
-
OK, thanks!
-
Oh my god, just heard their music...their awesomely epic! I'm so going.
-
Yay, you should go with us!
-
Oh my god, just heard their music...their awesomely epic! I'm so going.
woot! yes, go with us and hang out before and have fun fun times ^.^

Sounds like good times there ;D Can't wait!
-
Wooot!
After the con ended the second thing I'm looking forward is Dir En Grey concert. :D
-
we are going. talon asked for tickets for his birthday. we are both excited.
cerridwen
-
I'm seriously thinking about going. I'm not sure if I'm going to be going with anyone, since a lot of my friends in this state don't have the same tastes in music as me. lol
-
Well, you can certainly find any of us who are going and rock out, I'm sure.
-
SpearXXI ~~~ you are welcomed to go with us! ;D most of my friends and my son's friends don't cotten to this kinda music either.
but he asked to go for his birthday...so we are going!
so all of us going alone is just like going in a big group!
cerridwen
-
If I can find more people from Salem to go, I'll probably go.
-

Back in September, me Spiffy and Vineboy made some small fliers at the library and handed them out around Pioneer Square... I was wondering, since there seem to be alotta fans on this forum, if there'd be anyone here who'd be willing to join the rest of us in giving out the fliers for the show. I haven't yet decided on a date for doing this, as I am kinda waiting on Kenston to run off the black and white handbills with Diru's pic and the street addy for the Hawthorne, I also wanna go to the library again sometime to make more copies of the smaller flier with the URL for my unofficial street team page. Any help spreading the word about the coming show would be very much appreciated, whether its telling a friend on Myspace or passing out fliers.
You may print these if you like, I will eventually be going to
Multnomah Co. Library to run off more on the Xerox machine.
Fullsized Black & White handbill with Diru's new look and the address of The Hawthorne.

CANT WAIT KYO = LOVE ^_^
-
Haha, wow.
That's a day before my birthday. Weird.
I used to love Dir En Grey, but their newer stuff doesn't appeal to me that much.
I might just go see them anyways, depending if my wallet can handle it.
-
Their new album, Uroboros is supposed to be better, like a throwback to their Pre-Withering to Death & Marrow of a Bone sound. The song "Glass Skin" is pretty awesome.
-
dude i went to their concert i think last year.. homg i was freaking out to finally see them so bad i got myself sick x.x but dude i'm going to that cuz of my sisters birthday, tis gonna be a blast :D
-
I totally preordered Uroboros even though I don't have a job and need money for rent lol. I ave enough for this month though so it's cool. But yeah, They're having a contest where if you preorder the new album you can win a free VIP ticket to the show of your choice, meet the band, a signed copy of the album, and a whole bunch of crap and I totally entered that lol.
-
I put up new fliers (that actually have their picture) in the HT's at Lloyd and Clackamas.
Oh, and outta curiosity, any of you folks heard of a crazed 45 year old fan named Missy?
This woman had a super e-flipout on me and my friends cuz of our fliering for the band, lol.
And she's threatening to come up to PDX to try and start crap to make me miss the show.
Stuff like this really makes me ashamed of this fandom sometimes.
http://community.livejournal.com/jrock_wank/51764.html?thread=4592948
-
Why would she flip out over that? It's inroducing more people to them. I think it's a good thing. Some people are just dumb...Anyways, I have an extra ticket to the show since I won two VIP tickets in the contest I mentioned above. So if anyone wants a ticket (a regular one, not a VIP one, my gf is taking the other) PM me. I'm not giving it away, but I'm a nice guy ;)
-
Why would she flip out over that? It's inroducing more people to them. I think it's a good thing. Some people are just dumb...
Because she's some crazy nutjob woman in her 40's who thinks she pwnz the band because she's been a fan for 10 years and has all their albums (the s00per l33t japanaiz versions, not the amelican releases, cuz only n00bz buy the CD's from a U.S. store) and the new fans are ruining her precious band which nobody else but her is allowed to like.
Yeah, I don't get that whole selfishness over music junk.
I mean, its music, it belongs to everyone, and if she really
loved them as much as she says, why does she care if a
few people spend money making fliers and putting them
up in stores or handing them out to folks in their city?
According to her, the band doesn't -want- us to handout fliers... lulz!
http://i528.photobucket.com/albums/dd324/bickznood/OMFGWTF.png
-
Wow that's lame. Is she in Portland? I hope I see her at the show, I'd give her a piece of my mind lol. Maybe I'll make a flyer and give it to her.
-
She's all the way in New York, she's pretty infamous, and for mostly bad reasons.
I really don't see why she'd waste money and time to come out here just to mess
with me, but if she wants to so be it. I'm not really the fighting type though.
If you wanna know anything about her, just read LJ: Jrock_Wank,
she's posted about on there like every other month, lawlz. You'd
know if you saw her, as she'd prolly be the only 40yo fan there.
-
Hmmm....sounds interesting.....She seriously came all the way to Portland just to harrass you? Did she have something else to do? Wow this got off topic lol. Anyways, Whoo Dir En Grey! I can't wait to meet them ;D
-
She seriously came all the way to Portland just to harrass you?
No, not yet... she -threatened- to come here *read the screencap, plzkthx* and then after figuring out I'd get more entertainment from her retarded attempt at causing RL drama than from actually getting to see the show she said she was going to make me miss, she backpeddled and said I should come to New York instead, lulz. If you read LJ: JrockAnon and LJ: Jrock_Wank you can see fer yerself just how much of a crazy old elitist fan-nut she is. This chick is suuuuuuper old, suuuuuper crazy, types like a 2yo on meth and srsly thinks she and Die had some kinda relationship when she is old enough to be his grandma and looks like Ma Fratelli from the Goonies.
-
*excitement
-
I am so confused about the 40 y/o fan I do not know which posts are hers and I think my brain is starting to hurt....oh well if I see her in the mosh pit I will make sure to level her for you and everything, but yeah anyways I am hella excited for the concert nothing better then knocking a few back and having fun in the pit YAY!
-is uber happy- See you guys at the show on Tuesday!
-
DAY AFTER TOMORROW BABY!! YEAH!!
-
Do you think it'd be safe for me to bring my camera? It's kind of...big, but I really want to take photos. :)
-
I'm sure it'd be fine. How big is it?
-
Here's my camera. (http://digitalcompacts.com/04200814/nikon-coolpix-p80/)
Times like these I wish I had a small compact camera, haha.
-
Of course, I become sick the day before the concert. I lost my voice, and ache, but hopefully by tomorrow I'll be feeling better.
It's a good thing I don't really know Dir En Grey that much, otherwise I'm sure I'd be way more upset over this.
-
yeah totemo your camera should be safe and everything just make sure you stand clear of the pit and you should be fine just do not let it leave your sight and everything other then that you should be fine
-
Buy a copy of "Oroboros" at the show and get to meet-n-greet Dir En Grey.
Don't forget to get your copy!!
-
sweet!
I decided not to bring my camera.
I'm looking forward to this :D
-
it was a rad concert... I feel hella beat up though I got punched in the jaw like 3 times but other then that awesome awesome concert! :D
-
F*CKING AWESOME!
I ended up taking a disposable camera.
I'm so sore. @__@
-
LOLOLOL I AM GOING TO THE CONCERT TONIGHT IN SEATTLE.
I liked Diru back in like 2001-2003, but I haven't heard ANY of their new stuff LOLOLOLOL.
I hope I get beat up :D
-
Oh, it's not hard at all to get beat up. :x
I was being crushed most of the time, ahaha.
-

The show was frigging AWESOME. I gave a "Portland BLEEPING Oregon" shirt from the Roxy to Nora to give to Kaoru, I hope he will wear it when they come back to Portland! Oh and they have a DVD coming out in the USA finally! Check their official myspace.

Concert was amazing! The Human Abstract sucked though. Not a big fan of them. Meeting the band was awesome too. I was such an idiot when I was backstage though...I was acting like a starstruck moron, but they're probably used to it.....I hope.....anyways....yeah, best concert I've ever been to, easily.

^ You... got to go... backstage? Details, plz kthx!
After all the tough talk and e-threats, she didn't even show up to the concert here in Ptown (or to her own concert in NYC supposedly, because she claims to totally hate Diru now cuz of "The New Fandom" and cuz the band won't treat her like the superior fan she is). Her posts are the one's with the sentences broken into pieces (obviously she was never taught how to use paragraphs, amirite?) and double commas or other punctuation marks put in the middle of nowhere. When I first encountered her, I thought she was just some uber posessive (and younger) foreign fan, not a 40 year old american woman. Adult illiteracy and aging fangirls with an "internet lawyer" complex make me lawl. She'll just hafta try again next year...
OR... CAST A SUPER V00 D00 DETH HECKZ ON ME!
