Hey there everyone! I was talking with some friends about the con, and ice skating and I know that some people have been talking about going skating. Now wouldn't it be neat if we could have the whole rink to ourselves? Think of the crazy cosplay possibilities. XP In order to do that we'd have to raise $260.
Soo we decided to have a car wash. We think it should be held in Tualatin or Wilsonville would be a nice place that is in the middle of where a lot of people live. One major issue of course is "What about my cosplay?" You can do your hair and wear a swim suit in character or if your really lucky your cosplay is water proof.
Maybe if you don't have a cosplay you can handle money or something. Jobs for all I'm sure.
So what do you guys think? :D
Update
The car wash will be in the Haggen in Tualatin from 12:00-5:00 PM.
(You don't have to go the whole time if you don't want to.)
I will be there with a clip board to keep track of who is where doing what so we don't get confused. Bring whatever you can; towels, buckets, hoses and even paper cups for root beer floats- anything.

I live in Tualatin and would definitely be down for this (as long as the Car Wash did not fall during Con weekend or something). So I vote for Tualatin and could do cash handling or something. I probably wouldn't be too good at luring people in, haha. I'll leave that to the swimsuit cosplayers, lol.

Lol, sure thing. It won't be during the con, we want it to be at least a week in advance and I was thinking maybe two days. 16 and 17? Sounds good. The more people the better, we should make posters too and put them up all over. Many people many towns, success.

I can make them when I get on my computer, I'm at a friend's house. It wouldn't be very big though maybe two pieces of paper put together. But you can just print them out put them up and there we go. Sound good?

Hagen, Fred Meyer, K-Mart/Michael's, Albertson's, Safeway, Grocery Outlet, but there's also that Park on Tualatin Rd (with the skate park), it has a parking lot, could be a good area.

Not if we find out wich store owns the parking lot because some parkinglots people dont have a say in that like in sherwood the mcdonalds parking lot is used for car washes all the time which they get TONS of buissness for sinces 99 goes right past it :3

Tightness! Car wash at Haggen's parking lot, which is not too far from the Tualatin Library (manga anyone?) or the park (picnic afterwards?) and right across the tracks from Ancient Wonders (game warriors welcome!) That is my birthday weekend (Aug 15th I'm 21! :) ) so hopefully I'll be able to get Saturday off, or at least half day and show up late as usual.

I have posted what the fliers for the September 20th party are going to look like under it's topic. I plan on bringing some to meet ups so that people can have some to hand out to friends. I am also going to work on the name tags.

Well how much would people with cars pay for a car wash? I'd guess in the neighborhood of 4 dollars?

Well, looking at other local professional car washes, they charge about $5 for a regular car wash, so to make for good competition, I'd say $4 would be as low as we could go while still being reasonable to our cause. So $4 could be the minimum price.

And then Hatake seems to be our poster and tip jar designer, and Hailey also suggested selling lemonade and stuff for the people waiting. So eve you could deal with money and Hailey (Demonspawn) can sell treats. We can have some people out advertising a little bit every once-in-a-while, getting supplies and stuff. Everyone else is washing cars depending on how many there are. Sound good?

Sounds like a solid plan. Are we considering having people out flagging cars in, you know, "mobile signs". People holding big signs is usually a good way to get people's attention, sometimes works more than just putting signs up.

Does anyone have a power washer? The thing that shoots out water really hard to wash cars really well? I have one, but we'd have to hook it up to a power outlet, which wouldn't work. >.< We don't need one, but it might be good to make things extra clean~

Um, if he tells us how he wants it done and stuff then sure. About the signs we'd need either big poster paper or big pieces of wood. I happen to have neither so someone else would have to make them. Yeah. The person who told us is gonna try and find out a way to get a permit or something from someone else. I'll still call and ask what Haggen says about it, but otherwise if we wanna do this we might have to go around and collect pop bottles or something. XP Or do garage sales. : / Sad.

Fred Meyer gives out a lot of permits and things, so I -may- be able to get my hands on one.

Well it isn't the pace who gets the overall decision. If the police come and ask for our permit then they can kick us out if we don't have one. If Haggen says it's okay we'll ask about the permit and if they say we need one then we will either have to wait or think up something else.

Just in case this doesn't work out, we can think about alternates. Like if people want to donate some old stuff we can also have a garage sale or something, THOSE aren't illegal.

Cool, I know nothing about waxing cars but i have some liquid wax..stuff....and abunch of nice different kinds of cleaners ^^ and two glove...mop...things and some intertior detailing brushes aaand a sponge ^^oh oh! and a bucket :3 ....its blue >_>.....woo?

Im sure you can wear normal clothes or you can have a job where you can wear your cosplay and not worry about getting wet since we will be selling things and handling money and holding signs and doing snack runs :3

We will havta to wash 65 cars-ish to get that much, luckily if we sell lots of food and tea and other such things and do soem interiors, We wont have to do that many cars ^^

no no no it's 260$ per hour and you will have to pay for your own skates. The money you need to rent skates will not come from this. We are going to use this money to rent the rink and whats left we can use to rent skates

as for the number of people actually going to the rink we don't need an estimate. I don't think we need to tell them how busy it is going to be. And even if we do we could say it would be about normal to a little more busy.

It could end up being a huge mess. I look at it this way. If we don't get enough money or if for some reason they wont let us rent the rink we will take the money we got and either split it evenly or go out to eat.

most of the time I am doing closing so it is anywhere from 2 to 5 when I go it. I wont know though till a week before.
I will try to be in a bikini top but I only have one purple one and it doesn't fit well. I have a bunch of others but they aren't her colors....so I may just go with them

Yeah, I'm the same way. That's why most of my costumes have been/are lesser-acknowledged characters from Final Fantasy. I tend to love the overlooked characters more often than not.

Hmm...according to the Public Notice DEQ of the Water Wash permit, the following states:
"The permits identify deminimis activities that are allowed without having to obtain a permit. These include the following:"
"Vehicle washing conducted by private citizens and fund-raising groups such as schools, churches, boy/girl scouts, etc. Fund-raising groups shall limit the frequency of washing activities to once per month and follow the best management practices developed by the Department."
Is that a problem for having it be two days?

That sounds like we fall under the exception quite well. Two days out of the year is definitely an infrequent occurrence. I think we should be fine.

If enough people ask, this could be a good opportunity to spread the news about Kumoricon. Maybe we could get some fliers or something, even though we are not an official Kumoricon event, or backed in any way? Could be a good idea, if anyone has fliers sitting around, lol.

I've been there once, even though I live within a mile's radius. It's pretty cool, though I have to admit I am not very educated in the ways of tabletop rpg's, so the only aspect of the shop I was really interested in was the comics, but they did indeed have a great comic selection when I was there.

I called in and asked about the back sale and they said we can't do that. however they will donate ice cream and root beer to us to sell for a dollar or something as long as we have a little sign saying what were raising money for. So it kinda works out in the end. Sorry if people were baking things already, couldn't get on soon enough. >.<

I think this will go over well. And during the early con someone made a good point. With 26 people chipping in it will only cost $10 a piece. So we can make some money at the car wash and then maybe we can pay the rest (if we don't make enough)

Y.Y There has been talk and it was suggested that we raise the money and instead of renting the rink just use it during free skate, and then use the money to go eat and stuff. I was thinking that, too, as Kona pointed out. If we're going to do a carwash, then to make it fair we would either have to split the cost between everyone who showed, or put it towards something we could all do, rather then feed the kids that aren't able to eat out. No offense to anyone, but if you can't afford to eat out, then you should bring your own food that can be heated up or refridgerated.

The beach is really nice, and it'll really be nice in September. We could rent a hotel, or get a couple tents together and go camping, Steven and I know a really good place to camp out, they helped us out a year ago when our KOA Camp scolded us for boys and girls staying in the same tent, and then ended up telling us our tent was 'too big' to stay there.
The people we found let us stay in the RV section, since there was a Hippie Fest going on in the Camp Grounds, it was really fun.

Well, I like hotels because I am not very fond of sand.....I know, odd thing to be wary of, but still. I can only be around sand for....maybe fifteen minutes before I get grossed out and itchy, lol. So, I would go with a room if the option was there.

I thought the money was goin to cosplay on ice. Suddenly talking about the beach. We can raise money for somthin like that next year. Not meaning to be rude but some of what is being said is confusing me.

Myself and Itachi (Saya-chan) were thinking it would be fun to go out to sushi at Fuji's in sherwood (right by tualitin) after we were done with the carwash, we went there today and their sushi was DELICIOUS!

We /will/ be going to the car wash, a very good friend is taking us. I will be in colsplay, but I will be unable to wash cars...As my cosplay has a white shirt and my hair bleeds color when wet. It is my /last/ dress-shirt that works for my Turk Cosplay... -shrugs shoulders back a little-.... I guess I can just help with other stuff.
Also on the comment about people bringing food with them, or eating out. It's kind of ... no offense, but rude to assume that everyone would have the funds or supplies to bring food from home. Myself, Sora, and Inu... all are on a pretty low budget at our house, my moms been putting off paying RENT to buy food... and still things are getting pretty slim. It would be pretty bad for us to drag food with us(That the kids could eat)... When its needed at home... Not like there really is anything thats travelable anyways. Almost everything in out house is meal aligned, not singular snack or one person aligned... -sighs-....

Skates are three dollars beezy's. If you do the math, 26 people together is only 10 dollars a person to rent the rink. I'm not bustin' my hump for something you kids wanna do.
But really, skating for free sounds a lot cheaper than paying 260$ an HOUR, when you can skate for however long you want for 3$. Plus, everyone's going to be tired by the end of con. Putting the money toward something more worthwhile then an hour of skating on ice would seem like a more intelligent idea.
If you think about it, and be mature about this kids, the idea of raising this money for an hour to skate while we're out in hot weather for half the day twice isn't the best plan. :-O

I definitely see your point, Sayda. Heck, I'm in the same boat. I never planned to go ice skating with this, I just wanted to help out with this thing for a bit. But it does seem like there are better ways to put the money to use. But, since I'm not participating in the ice skating, I figure I don't really need to worry about that aspect. I'm only gonna be at the car wash for an hour or so after all. I didn't even make a sign....hmm, I'll have to figure something out for that.

Well if people really want to we can use the money for something else. So far three people wanna switch it to something else, but for now we're raising money for something cool like (doesn't actually have to be) Ice Skating, we can figure the rest out later if people really wanna change.

Sayda I keep saying this but I guess you aren't seeing it. When I suggested going out to eat I mean going out to eat the DAY OF the car wash not during the con. I mean all of us that were working hard that day took the money to a restaurant and ordered food. I never said anything about giving money to people who couldn't buy their food. One of the people who needs money suggested it. This was for the ice skating but I kind of like the idea of going to the beach so maybe this can be something to talk over once we get there.

We have $116 in bills and I haven't counted the coins yet. We have changed our goal and plan on splitting the money. Half will go to a dinner out on Sunday the 24th and half will go to September 20th picnic.

Maybe to raise money you should think about having a bake sale in a neighborhood or have a garage sale or something. Even if we were to rent the rink out you would still have to pay to rent skates. So you would run into the same issue. I have a feeling we wont have enough or barely enough to rent the rink and nothing left.

I am tired of people talking about their money problems. I know it sucks, it must really suck and i can't even comprehend it because I have never been in that kind of situation. But my parents wouldn't give me spending money for the con so I got a job. So if money is an issue find a way to get it. Don't use events like this were we plan on using the money to do something TOGETHER for yourself. I think that is kind of selfish and rude.
I am a huge activist and if things aren't going right in your life then you need to change something.

Well there is a topic up for people to choose how to spend the money. It seems to me (by all the talk) that people want to spend the money on either camping or dinner or for others to have food and extra money during the con. Maybe two or three people want it for the rink anymore. I'm tired of arguing about this I think we should just use it for the rink and nothing else. Not going to dinner afterwards or paying for peoples food or rental skates. Just for the rink. But we are going to go with what the majority want. I'll leave th poll up till Sunday night then I am taking it down and what ever has the most votes is what we are spending the money on. Its as simple as that.

Okay, I think Nikkiolie's main point was that the people making the complaints are not helping the situation. Protesting the available options is not creating an option, you follow? This whole situation just seems to lack activism and assertiveness, if I may try to paraphrase Nikki's post. Instead of saying "these plans stink" or whatever, people need to just stick to their guns, state their ideas and then let them simmer, so to speak.

I think that is what we should do too. I wont be able to go skating during the con so the only time that I could go would be after. Camping would be a really fun idea but it wont work out for some people and we need to do something that everyone would enjoy.

Well also you don't just have to skate, you can hang out and talk say good bye, go shopping hang out by the vending machines and eat useless little $1.50 snacks while laughing at your falling friends who are skating... that sounds fun. We also have to make a video of Mario ice skating. ;)

Arguing is one of the few things I do on the board, I only argue when I see that there's a problem no one else is stating. It's like an elephant on the table kind of thing. Or maybe it was just me that saw what the money was going to was a big waste for something we spent so much time and energy on.
I don't usually argue, mostly I keep my mouth shut, but this was something that I felt needed to be addressed, and the arguing mood helped that fact. But whatever the case, if we're using this for skating, then I won't be attending the next carwash.

I think that is where it should go as well. I like that idea. Everyone had a lot of fun at the picnic and I'm sure this next one will be a blast where ice skating is something only a few people want to do. Plus there is a free skate that people can go to.

I was suggesting the rink because I thought that would calm some but it doesn't look like it. so since that isn't going to work I am going to suggest what I want to spend the money on. I want it to go to the sept 20th. If some don't want to split the money between the gift and the food then we can do a third and two thirds.....but ultimately it is up to spleen since she is organizing this.
