Please post here if you are interested in helping with security for the 2005 convention. We need a lot more people as security staff.
You can also e-mail myself or Brownie.

Oo!! Oo!! Me!! I wanna help!! :D
-
I could see myself helping out ill be 17 at the next kumoriocon is this a problem
-
Waffles, my impression is that yes, that would be a problem. However, I'll be happy to double check for you.
Thanks for the support Candel. I figured I could put you down for say, 66 out of the 72 hours eh?
(note, most people won't be asked to volunteer that much, just candel, so don't be afraid to post because of it, hopefully everyone will be forced to take enough time to themselves to have a goodnights sleep this year. =P)
-
count me in for all 3 days, so long as I can stick with the roaming thing :)
I dont mind being pinned down in one spot for small amounts of time but I love to roam :)
I did it this year, I can do it again if ull have me :)

Waffles, unfortunately the age restriction for security whether volunteers or staff is 18 for the 2005 convention. THanks for the interest though,
Kylite, great, we'll put you on the list. Were you dressed up last year as anything? I'm trying to remember a face to put with the tag.
-
look at my avatar and think real hard :) im sure ull remember me. if NOTHING else think to closeing ceremonies . i was the guy doing the airplane row by row seating trick LOL.
-
i put myself on the list with brownie at the general meeting but i will post here to... lol... yup count me in... experience: volunteer security for 2004...
(which confuses me... i was 17 for 2004 in fact im still 17, ill be 18 by 2005 but maybe being a volunteer changed it... hmm... try volunteering waffles)
-
She probably made an exception since you helped out last year, that would be my guess too. As a general rule however, 18 will be required. Waffles, I dont want to discourage you. You're still more then welcome to help out with lots of other areas of the con I'm sure. =)
Daystar and Kylite, I'll try to get you added to the operations list for security if you're not already on it.
-
If they're 18 by the time of the convention it's okay for them to be on security staff is my understanding. If not, lots of other parts of Kumori Con need volonteers, and they usually accept at an age of 16.
-
I wanna help if I'm still in the area.
-
so do you remember me you could be a pilot or one of thouse guys in the bathroom or a a car parker or or or
-
I would love to help with security. what do I do? heh
-
So hwo all do we have on list for security
Id like to have an idea of what events we will have to cover and how many people to each area. I loved being the floating security. and although I know it needs to be done, I hated counting people in the dealer room LOL.
-
I could do security detail for awhile each day. I'd like to enjoy the con, too. So, I could probably do at least a couple hours daily.
Or I could be "On call", as needed or something.
I'm a pretty big guy, so if you guys like need to scare someone away, I can do that without even opening my mouth. :D
-
my bro wants to know what does security detail entail, does it include, dare i say authoriTie? he'll be 19 by then
-
clarification... last year was an eception... they didnt realize i was 17. im going to be 18 by next kumoricon so dont worry about me. Waffles, if your in the area you should come to a general meeting and volunteer to help. they love volunteers. (also i told brownie i was willing to be her assitant and stuff so im sure im on the list already, but if i cant be brownies assistant i will happily do anything else. =^-^=)

Well I figured I should start getting my mind off sakuracon for two seconds and remeber the con thats closest to drive too. ^_^ I would love to help out with security at this event as well. Just email me and let me know whats avalible and anything else I might need to.
-
hey can people that are between 16 - 18 be a securtity guard or something along those lines
:?:

The short answer to Kyuubi's question is: sorry, but no.
Here's the deal: You CAN be Operations staff if you are 16 or 17 (Operations being the department that oversees what you think of as "security"), and help out in the behind-the-scenes things of con a lot, but you CAN'T be assigned to shifts that serve a "security" type function unless you are at least 18 years old.
If you are 18, you're eligible for such shifts/responsibilities within Operations, but it's the Director's call who is appointed to such duties. Talk to Bronwyn Williams, our Director of Operations. Email me if you don't know how to get in contact with her.

so basically i can help set up rooms like the gaming room, RPG room, ect.

so basically i can help set up rooms like the gaming room, RPG room, ect.
if we want to help at 17 we can set up rooms (bla bla bla)
but can we still take some time off to join a cosplay event?
-
If you know what you want to do at con (example: if you are like "I 100% do not want to miss the Cosplay!") just let us know about it and we won't schedule you for that time. You just have to talk to us up front about what you want and need. We're not looking to overwork you or spoil your con experience. We love our volunteers. :D
Also, as a volunteer, you're still eligible to participate in all the events. Only full staff members have to be judged differently from regular attendees in the contests such as cosplay, karaoke, etc.

beacuse i would love to set up like anime movie rooms! :D
-
The best way to start is to e-mail volunteer@kumoricon.org
From there it'll probably take a week or so to figure out what you want to do/have skillz for, and then what positions are looking for people.
-
I live... again. Well I think I've got my life settled down to a point where I can once agian logicaly devote time and energy to Kumoricon. I'm not thinking to run the show again but if you're still looking for security staff I'd love to help out.
-
well im all signed up. (did so at the last general meeting) and already have the days approved off to go. :) now just gotta get the lay of the land and know what ill be doing in security :)
(those walkie talkie things are almost useless as u can NEVER understand what people say) so were gonna need runners LOL
-
I volunteer with every fiber of my being. If I can get the time off. A friend and I attended last year and were last minute volunteers. You might remember us, we were the guys who payed for a room but DID NOT USE IT!!! We volunteered for night security in the game room both nights. So much fun that I have to do it again. If I can get the time off. I'm praying here, so pray with me.
-
It's not security. It can't legally be called security. The official title is 'yojimbo'. And as far as I know, there will be no last minute volunteer 'yojimbo', just previously arranged staff. If you want in on it, better arrange properly before hand, don't just show up at the con ready to throw down.
-
so if i want to help in the game room like set it up and be a "yojimbo" in the game room do i like sign up when i pre reg when i go to the july general meeting or do i do something else
im 16 and i want to voulenteer
-
You can volunteer at the con to do things that don't fall into the category of yojimbo (what most people think of as 'security'). That's set up, take down, running, judging contests, etc. If you are planning on going to the general meeting in July, definitely let the gaming director know at the meeting. It helps us immensely to have the volunteers who want to commit signed up in advance.
We'll also be posting a list in this forum soon of directors who need volunteers and how to contact them to sign up to help.
