Would anyone be interested in meeting at the Water Front in Portland for a cosplay picnic some time during the summer? We could all meet up and everyone could bring one food item (or drink) and we would eat in the grass have fun and cosplay. If that gets too boring there is all of Portland at our disposal so we could wonder around there.
I'm not too sure on a date right now but I think sometime during the weekend would be the best. I was kind of thinking Julyish too. The only problem that I can see are summer jobs. A lot of jobs (mine included) don't have regular hours. Most of the time you wont know when you are working till a week in advance. Also the fact that it is going to be summer and some people are going to go on vacation.
If people are interested feel free to PM me or respond with possible times. I want to get a head count as well as the food that people are planing on bringing.
PS: this could be a good time to get good photos done (I desperately need some for each one of my costumes)

As of now, I don't have a job, but July's 2 months away, and I could have one by then.
But other then that, I'm free, and I'm up to bringing whatever food or drink people want.

I don't have a job yet either but I need to get one. I can just see me planing this whole thing and the week before it my boss say hay can you work on this day at this time. also there is the problem that I would already have to request time off for the two vacations that I am going on and for the con. Well I am not even going to take a job that wont give me all three off.
However, back to the picnic I think it would be lots of fun, even if there is just a small crowed going.

So, maybe our main focus right now should be on the date, and exact location[for the stupid people like me who live no where near Portland XD]. Then, maybe the food, and who's cosplaying who so we can sort of get an idea of just which characters are going to be picnicing.

omg I know, sad I can't make it to the meet up at the waterfront. But last minute homework and final tests have me going crazy. :P But I will try my hardest to make to the picnic, and hey maybe it could also be in our show(if it's all right with everyone, I don't want to be rude and just film people). Because we want to get footage of cosplayers and it be alot of fun just to film what we do lol. :D

I was thinking about noon. We would meet at the fountain and move to a grassy area around there. We can also go to the Saturday Market after we eat and get everything cleaned up, or before it doesn't matter to me.

Now if any conflicts come up just let me know. I will make sure that I can get that day off if not we can always move it to that Friday or Sunday. The time is not set in stone. It is simply a suggestion at this point. As for food I am going to make a list and everyone can tell me what they want to bring. If you want to bring extra just let me know and I'll add it to the list.

That is just a list to start with. I am planning on bringing the cupcakes. If you want to bring sweets let me know but for cake lets try something a little different, for example if I am bringing cupcakes and you want to bring cake you could make coffee cake or some other type of cake.
Also lets make this a pg-13 event so please no alcohol. I suggested mocktails so you could get the taste without the buzz.

I was the one who suggested the sanwhiches actually. XD I would suggest tuna, tuna salad or something with fish. XD Maybe turkey, ham, ect. The works. Maybe have a small station set up where you could pick a topping or something...I don't know if I want to do that, but if I come, I'll definetly bring pop. Me coming currently is not set in stone yet, so don't sign me up yet!

We are going to be on Front Street. I need to know where you are coming from. Front st isn't that hard to find, if you have been to any of the festivals in Portland then you have been there. It's right next to the river. We are meeting at the fountains and moving to a grassy area from there

You don't have to worry about a costume. If you don't have one you can always come in normal clothes. Its just a cosplay picnic but it is not a requirement. After you get your schedule let me know, the time is not set in stone because I don't know when I am going to be working as well.

We use a GPS to get ANYWHERE now, so finding Front St is easy, just... eh xD I'll probably be exchanging cellphone numbers with one of you guys so I can find you, if I can't spot you guys from the street ovo;

Just when iIread the thread name i thought it would be at the park next to the hotel where k-con is going to be at, it would be easy to get to right off the max and near the theater for parking, with the mall there for easy foods
tho i know there is the chance for pan handlers, but that anywhere down town really these days

It's good that so many people are bringing lots of food. Just keep in mind how you are going to get it there. It would be nice if everyone could bring something instead of having a few people bring a lot of stuff
As for the reason it is at the waterfront is because it is a place that the majority of people know where it's at. its right off the freeway and not a far walk from the max stop. Most people know exactly were the fountains at the waterfront is so it was just a good place to do it. Plus I think it has a great view, and there are a lot of spots we can go to, we can even stop by the Saturday market if we wanted to.
Also for those who are bringing stuff, you will want to bring stuff that can be thrown away so you don't have to carry it if we want to go somewhere else. So don't bring a glass serving platter but a plastic one use container that you can throw away once we are done.

Yeahhhh... it's still up in the air on whether we can all make it. But we will try! That we will!... If anything x3 I'm gonna go in my Renegade Turk Maya Kitajima cosplay. I can wear it in so few places >.< well at least when it comes to friends houses. I don't wanna offend their parents!

There are battery operated ones, like Saya said, but I'm not sure if you can find any that don't run on something.
I saw some battery speakers at Dollar Tree that worked pretty good.

I have a boom box that is powered by batteries that I could bring. The only thing is I don't know if it plays ipods, but if not I can burn songs onto a cd to play at the meet up. Like the haruhi dance,Yatta,lucky star,death note,naruto,caramell dansen and others. I have alot of anime music lol XD. I can also bring fruit and some random Japanese candy or anything I can grab my hands on.

It was my first involved forum that i posted on when I was first starting to post.
So we neared a decission and someone wanted to make like a movie skit thing
We all planned to meet up somewere to shoot it the day before the con sorta

As for the fountian it is the one that you can run through, there are some others but not ones you can run through. It is right next to the on rap to I-5. Just look at the address posted to give you an idea of where it is.

Well it won't be wet as long as it doesn't rain that day, so we really have no way to tell until like five days before the actual day. But I could probably bring some towels to put under blankets if it is wet... I have looooaaads of towels.

They don't have many tables but I have blankets, you don't have to buy them, we can just bring some that we already have. As for the icing, that is a good idea but it WILL NOT leave the food. You don't have to wear a costume but it makes it so much more fun. The picnic is very close so the one fear that I would have is that you wouldn't have enough time to make a new cosplay. You could always do something that is really easy like something from Death Note (or something else with casual clothes).

I think you should show up as Tifa and I'm sure that with the amount of people coming to this someone there will be able to cut your wig. One of my friends is going to do a form of Tifa, she just needs the wig now. And I am glad that you might get to go!

She cut the pants to shorts took the sleeve off on the shirt and attached the shoulder armor and that was as far as I saw. The shirt is unzipped and she wears a black sports bra underneath. I know there is more planed but I think it looks good (she looks like Mello from death note).

For those of you who asked it is at the fountain.
NightLotus I think you should wear your cosplay because it is a chance to get others advice and to see if anything will need work. Like if something wont work out too well moving around. There is nothing worse then getting to the con and having your costume fall apart so this is a good test run.
If people want to show up early that's fine, I'm not sure how late this is going to run I figure it will be till 5 pm maybe latter. I'll try to be there around 11:30 dressed as Temari so you can look for me there. I will also have a friend that will be in a costume that looks like Mello but really it's an altered Cloud Strife. I'll try to keep my fan out so it will be easier to spot us.
If there are any other questions just let me know.

I would love if people were to come early to help set up. The more people the better. I would have a few people setting up and one or two people waiting at the fountain to leads others over when they show up. I will have one person with me to help as well. Two people waiting for others would be good then we can lead them there in groups (one goes while the other stays behind) I am also going to try to find a place that is close (preferably where we can be seen from the meeting spot) but if something were to happen (like rain or lots of people already there) then we may have to be farther away.

Apples to Apples is a Noun Adjective game.
You usually play it with a group of people. Everyone gets nouns to an adjective. The person who randomly draw a card [adjective] and the other players have to choose a noun that they think the person will choose. The motive of the game is to get the most green cards. Or was it red cards?
Either way It's a very fun and funny game.
I suck at twister and it might not be a good idea at the park o.o in cosplay...
I think I'm highly positive that I'm going and I might have mandy stay over depending on my parents and Thomas's parent's who probably driving us back home.

We should like.... make a list of the food we need, or at least how much, and assign that to people instead of the current method O_o

If you have any other ideas then go ahead and voice up. I want cold foods so we aren't worried about hot food getting cold. Also keep in mind that it needs to be stuff that can sit out in the sun and not go bad. I can bring a cooler for the drinks and some ice to help keep them cold.

Diet soda isn't bad for you. They tested it on rats and they showed a sign but there has never been any of those results on humans. Both me and my mom drink diet soda for practically all our lives and never had any problems. And in all honetsy I rather drink diet soda and eat more food than worry about the amount of calories in the regular soda.

I would say maybe even 30 cut in half would be perfect. We can split up the sandwiches so that one person is doing 15 and another is doing 15.......or someone can bring the bread and the meat separate and people can make it the way they like. The we would need about three loafs of bread lots of meat and lots of cheese, mayo and a big thing of PB and a big thing of J.

I am a big fan of pb and j and I don't think I will eat any of the meet. Don't worry Saya we have you covered ;)
The make your own will be for a select few. As for a table you don't need one. People will have a plate and there will be knifes to spread the sauces and the meat can stay in the package....it wont be a problem.

@Nik- From what I saw on google maps, right next to the fountain there's a pretty good-sized area (small glomp-circle size xD) in sun, with trees all around it. We shouldn't have too hard of a time finding a spot in the shade, unless all the trees die or someth x3

ya... it sure is felt!! (this is actually my first time making ears... but they were really easy!!!) I also made sure they were durable by adding extra lining and an iron-to-activate adhesive as well as hot glue that I activated after the hot glue cooled down!! ;D

I put them on with hair clips, but I left the bottom free of to much fur if you want to glue (or sew) them to a headband or ribbon you can!
I tried attaching some with saftey pins, but i'm not very good at attaching them, so i though people who i gave them to could do it if they wanted to. It would be easy if you arn't incompetent at pinning things ;) like me....

I don't know of any parking places besides the downtown streets as i bus/bike everywhere it is in the fair free zone but will still probaby have to pay getting to and out of there unless you live in downtown. And china town i think is north of burnside so it would be like a 10 block walk, but not bad =)

Like Hazuza said it is at 997 SW Naito Pkwy . I'm not sure of the name of the fountain but it is the big one that little kids are always running through. And Hazuza you can bring whatever you want. I would like to have enough drinks so that everyone can at least have two (of whatever there is) It will be hot and we need to stay hydrated.
I also suggest that people bring money because we may go wondering around downtown and if you want to buy anything (even food) then it would be a good idea. As for the garbage I can bring a few bags. I'll bring the giant ones that will hold more than enough stuff.
Is there any other questions? The picnic is 6 days away ^_^

Nothing but the one that concerns who's staying at the picnic after 5:00. I'm unsure about getting a day off of work (I work from 11-4 or noon to 5) I might be able to only work for a couple hours that day and still make it down, but if not, then I'll only be able to make it to the end of the picnic. :( But I will try.

I've never watched Deathnote, actually. I watched a few episodes at random on Adult Swim while waiting for the next show to come on, but other then that, I really have no idea what it's about or how the whole notebook thing works.
People just full on INSIST that I'm cosplaying Kira, I tell them I'm not, and it always ends with "Oh.. you look so much like him!" Even while in my Host Club uniform, people mistook me for Kira.

Her house hasn't sold yet with the market[=.=], so I don't know if she's attending next year. But, I miss her. xD She's like a sister to me. But she gave me this really cool ring. XD It's a pink stone cut into different parts and arraged into a ring. -.- She always used to tease me about my two sides. XD My dark side and my girly pink side. So, thus the pink ring. XD But, it's pretty cool because it's not cheap and it doesn't rust since I never take it off. XD

She was Swedish I think.....anyways it was about the end of 8th grade and she moved. However because of her and her two sisters I meet my best friend and we still hang out all the time. I'm still working to perfect his DBZ Future outfit, and SS4 Goku still needs his chest muscles done. I'm hoping to aim for work to get done at 2:00, then I catch the bus and arrive by about 3:30. Try not to battle too much before I arrive. But also it would be wow, from a Caribbean Pirate at Amtgard on Friday, to captain America Saturday Morning, then Luffy, then Trunks. :P Whoo hoo! ;D

There's always the bus. It might take a little longer, but the bus system in Portland is pretty loyal. Thousands of people take it a day without any problems. Bus, max, taxi, you name it.
I might show up. Probably not. If I do, though, it'll be either Link from Ordon Village or Alphonse Elric in armor, but if I did that, it would mean carting all my stuff and having someone dress me there. I lose about %60 movement in that suit XD

I will also bring some first aid stuff (I know how rowdy some cosplayers get) so if some one gets a scraped knee I'll have some Hello Kitty Band-Aids for you. :D

If the long trip is like, a thousand miles and the short trips only add up to about 600 then they're not gonna be equal. most of the time it'll be the bunch of short trips though, because starting a car uses a big chunk of gas compare to just idling at a stop sign.
Every car has a "cruising speed" where they get the best mileage, this is usually around 45 mph so long distances can become less efficient if your car isn't built for high speed.

Basically there's two groups, and they stand in a line horizontal from each other with their arms linked.
Then they say "Red Rover, Red Rover, call [insert name] over."
The person's name that they called then runs toward the other group in attempts to break their linked arms.
If they break it, they get to bring a person back over to their group/line, but if they can't break it, then they have to stay with the group they tried to break.
The logic of the game is to deduce the other groups line.

As you can see there's drawing involved. The pages I posted were from small groups so the pictures got pretty big.
Basically someone make a drawing, then another person writes a sentence describing it. Then you cover up the first drawing and a second drawing is made based on the sentence. Then the sentence is covered up and someone writes a sentence describing THAT drawing. It can get really silly really fast!
We had an idea of getting a giant scroll of paper at the convention to play this with at the convention. Maybe I'll get a full legal sized pad one of these days.
I think I'll have to fall back on good old Mario.

And as for the Ultimate Showdown, which will be now named USKD, or at least the janken version, I was hoping to get at least 8 people for a small demo tournament to teach everyone the rules. As for the big smash brawl, we can just say one round of rock paper scissors, loser "dies" until there's only one left. Also if things work out, I may be able to bring a couple self made Dragon Balls with me.

When I was in those situations, I usually left the house and walked somewhere. But my mother also didn't care that I was gone. My whole point in leaving was trying to get her attention, and for her to worry about where I went, but it NEVER happened. It's kind of sad, but also frustraiting that I never got my way. ~ ~

The only reason I am panicking over the costume is that I work till 10 tonight and I am going to be so tired afterwards. But I am getting most of the stuff ready today so all I have to do is buy ice get in costume and leave. I am even going to do my hair before I go to bed (it's just going to be four messy buns) so I am not freaking out about that. Getting the hair done the way I like it is by far the hardest part and takes the longest time.
I got the cupcakes I got apples to apples, I have a blanket ready and all the soda is in the cooler waiting for ice. Most of my costume is sitting out and ready to go. Very little needs to be done tomorrow. That's the way I wanted it to be ^_^

Ohh right. The hair is the only stressful part. I get frustrated easily with mine. It always cooperates, other then when I need to use it for Cosplay.
Although, mine's probably not nearly as difficult as yours.

Mine goes into the messy buns really well. The hard part is going to be separating it into four even parts. I am a big perfectionist too so the part will have to be straight and each bun will have to be perfect, however, if I were to do it in the morning i wouldn't look as good and I would be rushed, or I would have to get up at 8am or earlier. As of now I am planing on getting up at 8:30 or 9.

Well I just got off work and I am going to style my hair then head to bed. I like lots of sleep and today has been a very long day. The cupcakes that I got are huge, there is 20 of them and they can easily be split in half to make 40. If anyone went to the picnic at the old Kumoricon park I got the same cupcakes that we had there. I will also be bringing lots of soda. There is coke, diet coke, live wire, and diet dew.....I think that is about it. However I am going to get ice before I leave so they might not be as cold as I would like by the time people show up.
For those of you getting there early. I will be cosplay as Temari and have a giant fan so it should be easy to spot me. ^_^

yeah there is a cosplay contest at one of the stores. I just found most of the info. Its tomorrow at noon at clackamas town center. The trivia is at 1 and the contest is 3. We are meeting at red mangos (whatever that is, I'm guessing smoothies)

Well I've seen better, I've seen worse. The thing about DN cosplay is they are so easy that you have to be sure you get as much of the detail down as possible, other wise it could be an epic fail. It's really lucky to find a good cosplay from GoodWill. I got my green dress from goodwill.

No kidding dude. Their costumes are ridiculously easy. The only thing I didn't like about my cosplay was the 3rd button the blazier had, and the pants.
My hair could have been darker, but it was only a meetup, I figured main details were the most important part at the time.
And yeah, I made my own Death note, too. It's not finished yet, though.

The costume seems really easy.....if you want to go as L even simpler. W white shirt and black pats. Black eyeliner and you are set.

Well my friend wanted to do L, and I knonw if she does she won't try. She'll slap on a pair of regular jeans and a tight white shirt. With L you have to be particularly good about getting the right sized clothes because otherwise you'll look... odd.... If anything I'm pickiest with L cosplayers. You don't do cosplay just cause it's easy cause there's no such thing! : X Unless your really gifted. ^_^;
