Hey...
Ok, so a few questions.
When can we sign up for the karaoke contests for '08? I'm familiar with how the contests are run and everything, so I'm going to do my best and shoot for the Idol contest this year.
As for the audition, if there is a preference for the judges:
Can we sing our song choice with an instrumental during the audition, even though we'll only have about 2 min?
Do we sing the tv-sized version with vocals?
Which is more preferred if we are trying out for Japanese Idol? Instrumental till time runs out, or tv-sized with vocals?

Karaoke signup will start June 1st.
As for auditions if you are going for Idol you have to have a track without the lead vocal in it. It can have backup. If your music has lead vocal in it you will automatically be pushed to the Hybrid contest because it's hard to listen to your voice when there is another vocal over it.

Will you be allowed to sign up for both idol and the other contest as well? I've never tried for both and I was just curious if it's allowed how that's decided. Do you try out for both?

From what I've been to in the past, you are either put into the Idol or the Hybrid contest. You can choose which contest you want to try out for, or you can let the judges pick for you which contest they think will be best for your voice style/ability.
You're cosplaying Rage? Sugoi, I may just pull out my infamous Shuichi costume for that one. :)

Well I've seen people sign up for both contests in the past. That's why I was wondering...
I've just always been in the idol contest... well... once they started dividing it. The first two years it was just one big contest, parodies and normal songs all in one.
It's funny to think back to that first con, and the little tiny contest. XD

Well first choice Sunao na Mama from Nanaka 6/17... or Ma Ji Ya Ba from Nerima Daikon Brothers.... both very obscure shows. XD

-"Planetarium" by Ai Otsuka, for those of you who have seen the first live action drama season of Hana Yori Dango, it's the insert song.
Or
-"Yakusoku wa Iranai (No Need to Promise)" Yes, you all guessed it, Maaya Sakamoto's infamous song from the opening of the Escaflowne series. (not movie)
Probably going to go to Yakusoku wa Iranai....since I already have it memorized....

I can never get the karaoke versions for my songs. I always have to remove them or vocal dampen them.... I guess that's what I get for picking obscure things. U_U;

Also, It's June 4th and they haven't put anything up, but the cosplay contest looks intersting...I might do it.

Well it depends really. If you have a particular range you sing in, you should start looking for songs in that range. It also helps to narrow things down by picking something from a show or artist you like. :3 That's the best way to start. Sometimes if you're lucky a song you like can fit any range as well.

I can sing as high as the high note in Lilium from Elfen Lied and as low as....I donno XD

Okay, so you and me are on the same page then... I know what it's like to have an adjustable range and have way too many songs I like. When I'm trying to narrow it down, I get out my music and flip through them. See what I pass over right away and what I kind of listen to for a minute. More often than not, I end up settling on a song that I stopped on for a bit. I like all my music, but when I try to think of what I'd want to sing, certain things stand out more than others.

Ah I see, I broke my Mp3 player recently...
[It was in the washer...then dryer..then I found it...XD]
so flipping through song's isn't quite easy for me unless I sit down at the computer and keep my attention span in control for a while XD

Ack! I need to choose between my two favorite Gackt songs...should I do Lu:na or Illness Illusion? which one is the most overdone?...I want to do Lu:na because its manly Gackt...but I will sing Illness Illusion if Lu:na is overdone. Does anyone know where I can get instrumentals of these?

I think I'll do this, probably "Hare Hare Yukai" since I'm already memorizing the song as I intensely practice the dance. I was late to the Haruhi party so now I'm on an extreme binge for it :D If not that though, some other TMoHS song would work. But, if I sang "Hare Hare Yukai" I'd have another excuse to pimp my dancing skillz, so I'll probably stick with that ;D

I hope to try and perform Rise by Origa, from the second opening of Ghost in the Shell ._. I love the song and have been practicing the russian part of it like mad... its coming along great tho...

I'm going to attempt to sing Balalaika by Kusumi Koharu.
Stage fright has been with me since I started singing in the karaoke, but I've done it. The more you perform, the easier it gets. And (normally) everyone there is really friendly and supportive.

Hey, I'm planning on signing up for the Kamoricon Idol but I just have on quick question. In the rules it says we can "maybe" us english translations of songs. Is "maybe" a yes or a no? Does it depend what song?
I'd also like to know how you'd go about getting rid of the vocals on a song. Do you need a special program?

I'm not exactly sure about the audition stage, but for the contest itself you can't....
But, if you want, what they will do is play the selected song till the end of the time limit, and fade it out from there. That's also another option. :D
So instead of singing Yasashii Yoake, since I know for a fact I won't have it completely memorized in a week....-_-;;
Does anyone here know a song called Shining Star by Nami Tamaki? I'll most likely be singing that, since I already know it and it's right in my range and voice style. *shifty eyes*
EDIT: Or, I'll be singing Sanctuary by Nami Tamaki as well, the opening to Kiba. <.<...>.>.....

XD Well, I'll be at both karaoke audition and the contests....and does anyone know why the contests are scheduled at the same time this year? o.O;; They're usually at either different times on the same day or on completely different days. And Idol's usually the first contest up.
:P I'm most likely going to be in my Shuichi cosplay-- it's the cosplay that I feel the most comfortable in. Ironic, isn't it? :P (Especially since he's a singer..) Yea, I'm unfortunately only being Yami Yugi for the YGO photoshoot. Since I was asked by several of the people in it.......
So what do you think, since you know both? Sanctuary or Shining star? *shifty eyes* *is very indecisive*

See, that's the thing. My voice style can do both of those. It's very much like Nami-chan's......<.<....>.>........

:D Well, I'll be in the contest. And since both contests are back-to-back this year, (why the hell did they do that? o_0) easy enough of a determined time. And I'll be pretty hard to miss-- considering now I have a very good chance of actually having the hair done. (I'll probably get a wig and style it)

Yep, I am indeed going to have a Sennen Puzzle on me. I'm making it last minute this week >.<;; but it should still look ok.
And besides, Yami isn't Yami without a Puzzle. :D
And argh, I am still so pissed at qqcosplay for not responding to my requests for an invoice on a Pharaoh Atemu costume. Otherwise I wouldn't have this problem. *sigh*

Nice... Eh, well at the sakura-con this year, my mum was sewing my costumes until we left the house..(5 hours later than we had meant to.. thankfully we go down the day before the con.)

Heh, my cosplays had still been in the front room in garbage bags from when I dropped them coming in from the Sakura-con in March. .. They've now been washed, and are waiting for repairs and then re-packing...

I leave tomorrow morning...I catch my train around 11am and we get there around 2-3pm. (we've got a room at Doubletree)
We've got almost all our stuff packed, we just need out nighttime clothes packed and we're set. :D

My friends and I have a room at the double tree aswell.
My dad and I will be leaving around 9-10am, we should hit seattle by 11-noon, and get to portland sometime between 4 and 6...(LONG drive....over 200 miles... kill me now.)
