Title: 2008 May 18th general meeting
Post by: JeffT on April 30, 2008, 10:54:08 pm
The May general meeting will be held on Sunday, May 18 from 1pm-5pm at PSU in the same building as Kumoricon Lite:

Portland State University
Smith Memorial Student Union
Rooms 327 and 328
1825 SW Broadway
Portland, OR 97201

Google Maps (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=1825+SW+Broadway,+Portland,+OR+97201&ie=UTF8&z=15)

Like all general meetings, it is open to the public. General meetings are intended for potential and current staff and volunteers. There will be department reports and news updates, and breaking into groups where people can meet and plan.

Full details will be kept up-to-date at the main web site calendar entry (http://www.kumoricon.org/?page_id=26&kcmonth=5&kcyear=2008&kcday=18).

Thank you Jeff.  In addition to breaking out in groups, since the meeting directly conflicts with the time frame of the yojimbo training kylite and myself had scheduled for that day, we will be doing the training during that time.

Once again, I'll have to work. Curse this need to earn a living, anyway :)

Ah, well, there's always Mini Con next Saturday.

So close.  I come back for the summer shortly after that.

By the way, I just noticed that the first post says the May meeting will be in March.

I'll either be there for the whole thing, be there for the second half of it if I go to my equivalent of church first (Buddhist meditation), or Skype in....though that's something I've never tried and wouldn't know how to do....if anyone wants to PM clueless Remy there will be much rejoicing!!

Same building, just on the third floor (at least that's what I get out of the room numbers, 327 and 328).

Well, I found a map of the campus area, for those of you (like me) who haven't been to this campus in years, if at all.

http://www.pdx.edu/map.html

If I'm not mistaken, the building we'll be at in along Broadway, between Montgomery & Harrison.

This meeting was lol.

EDIT: Meant to say more there.  What I meant to say was:

I didn't get there until the meeting was already over, so hopefully nothing too terribly important was discussed.  I did get a chance to meet JeffT and Washougal Otaku though, and discuss plans with some other programming staff, so, while I presume the very short meeting (I was only about 40 minutes late) wasn't particularly big, I still feel like it was worth going.

I don't know why I didn't think of this at the meeting, but I have a laptop HD enclosure (IDE) that I have no plans on using. Won it at PDXLAN 11 and I already have the exact same model with a HD already in it. If you guys want it (and if the drive is IDE)  I have no problems with giving it to the con.

I'm leaving for Fanime on Thursday morning if anyone is going and wants to meet up with me there and get it. Though if you need it before that if someone was willing to come by my apartment and grab it (as I don't drive) I'm fine with that.

Just out of curiousity, what's gonna happen to the previous laptop?  I'll take it, if nobody objects to that.

This meeting went really well, I think.  I wanted to thank all the non-yojimbo staff that participated in the training session, it really helped make things productive.  I hope that during the June meeting, the yojimbo training session can be conducted before the breakout sessions, so everyone is aware of our policies as dictated by Operations.

So, like um where is the cosplay swing dance going to be?  It wasn't talked about much at the meeting.

The videos from the meeting are up now.

This is the playlist that puts them all in order. Sorry about the volume, there was lots of noise in the background. There was another video of the breakouts but judging by the views of the March meeting I don't think there's really demand for it.

I know what happened; I mean what's going to happen to it now?  Parts of it may be salvagable, or the laptop itself may be able to be repaired.  I have a couple of friends who may be able to fix it up for me, if I could have it...

Please don't say fixable... cause.. well its old, I mean ancient by computer standards it doesn't have a battery pack anymore, the base for the thing is enormous... and I think they have it slightly operational but I don't know... please for the love of everything anime please let us have a new laptop that is compatible with the system and the printer. We have a pretty, shiney, new (to us) laptop and even a special beckpack to carry it in.  The old laptop is working enough to be a data entry station.  We still need it as we intend to actually input ALL the forms from ALL the previous con and have a working, comprehensive registration database.

A working, complete database with sweet interface on working machines.  It could happen.  Dare to dream!

ancient by computer standards

It's probably younger than my PC.

 :(  Oh well.
