Title: Would a non-japanese song be OK for the karaoke competition?
Post by: Suzume on April 29, 2008, 12:51:52 am
I'm planning to cosplay Noodle from Gorillaz, (I know, it's not really anime, but still) and I wanted to sing one of their songs. Is that ok for the karaoke competition?

I... don't think this is allowed.
The karaoke competition is mostly for songs that originated from Japan.
Even if the song was shown in an anime it may not qualify.  An example is the song "Fly me to the Moon" by Frank Sintara.  It was played during the the end song for EVA but it is not allowed in competitions.

Any official word on this in case I'm wrong?

And in case your curious about this next part, Japanese songs with English words in them are perfectly fine.

No, a non-japanese song is not allowed for the karaoke competition, unless you are using it as a basis for a filk.

As for non-japanese songs in open mic... that is up to the discretion of the karaoke manager.  Since we are an anime and gaming convention, we encourage songs from anime or games, but most likely other songs will be allowed.
