Title: "GENSHIKEN 2" the Japanese anime about Japanese Otaku
Post by: missa on January 10, 2008, 03:43:55 am
Hi, everyone!

Is anyone interested in what's going on at the Otaku events in Japan such as "Comic Market"??
I bet most of you know already, and when you saw it for the first time, maybe you had a culture shock that the main focus of the event is selling "doujinshi" (private published novel or manga)?
For me, actually Kumori-Con '06 was my first experience of an American Otaku event, and I was really suprised that the main focus of the event seemed to be costume-play. (Though Japanese costume players are gaining in numbers more and more, selling their own books is still the main thing there.)

Anyway, the anime "Genshiken 2" is exactly it's like in Japan, and you might enjoy watching it.
You should check it out!

Oh, another one of my favorite anime is "moyashimon"...!!
The concept is amazing...><

I don't have moderator status, but I do not believe you're supposed to make comments like that.  Specifically the sentence with the explicit reference to the other site because of what it's implying.  You should really edit your post to correct that single mistake.

I -did- give her a break.  I explained it in a nice way, which should be easy to collapse in to what to correct, but without repeating the mistakenly posted data so that a correction will not be required of my data.

I should clarify, it's not the linking to other websites which isn't good, but specifically what she's implying with the sentence and that particular website.  If the site were one where you could actually buy the content (Yeah, I know, the studio's and/or media companies still haven't properly addressed the needs of our community... If I could just pay the studio/subbers whatever cut they make on it and get my fansubs I'd gladly take that route...) then it would be OK.  Just telling us to 'find it and watch it' would also be OK (It doesn't imply a means or method).  Probably the best correction is just removing that offending sentence.

Hello again  :'(

I am very sorry that I didn't post properly, and made some people uncomfortable.
I deleted the site name, and hope there is no more trouble with my posting...??

I really thank MichaelEvans for letting me know my mistake, and also really thank melchizedek for being kind of my mistake.
I will be more careful with what I post from now on.  :)

Hey missa,

It's ok, you don't need to worry about it. ^_^ Welcome to the forums.

Generally we don't allow links to unofficial copies of anime, but it is an unwritten rule, so don't worry about having done it. Our users were just quick to point it out.

Just remember everyone, have fun. :)

Jeff is correct actually.  I hadn't questioned it at the time, but looking at the registration page again it isn't clear.  So I guess I'm guilty of learning an unwritten social edge, and thinking of it as (well and) pre-defined.

I love Genshiken, both the anime and the manga.  I want to cosplay Oguie someday.

Hi, Rathany :)

Oh, Is there manga, too?
I should check it out then! (I just found the anime a week ago, so it's great information! Thanks! ^0^/)
Good luck for the costume, I hope I can see you in it at a con soon :D

Yup, all 9 volumes of the manga are out in English from Del Rey.  They all have lots of lovely translation notes.

(I love the great job Del Rey does on manga.)

Hey, Missa! Nice to see you've joined the Kumoricon forums at last! Welcome!

And thanks for the heads up about Genshiken. Sounds really interesting. At this point, the only experience I have had with the japanese side of fandom  and doujinshi is the manga/anime "Comic Party". I love that and it does present a side of the con-world that one doesn't see so much, because cosplay isn't as emphasized as it is in america. Very cool to see and experience I am sure. ^_^

Genshiken is amazing! i love it so much! It is dear to my heart but it expresses the the true feelings of cosplaying and is so funny.
