It would be cool if the page for pre-reg was actually there.... it kept telling me that there was nothing that matched my search criteria. Halp! ???

Sorry about that glitch... it is there now.  If you are still having problems with it, please let us know.

Thanks :)

The link to the page for the location doesn't work. You linked to an ftp rather than a http.

Anyway, does Lift go out that far? That's probably how I'd have to get there.

I think the closest you can get by Trimet is the Milwaukie Transit Center.  Take the 33 to get to Milwaukie, then walk along Harrison until you get to 42nd.  The walk's about a mile.

If you have a bike, use that.

There's also a 31 stop right near there across the street from a 7-Eleven, so you can get there that way too. From that stop it's just a block away, if that.

Ooh, just thought of something else. Will there be mask repair on site? Because I know a lot of people are going to get those cheap ones held up by elastic through a staple, and those have a tendency to snap.

Same thing.

"Sorry, no posts matched your criteria."

Laaaaaaaame. XP

We will try and have some mask repair supplies on site, but we can't guarantee that what we have will be what your mask needs, so please plan accordingly.

VampireFangs - which link are you having problems with?  They all seem to work okay for me.

I'm just clicking on the link that says "here" to pre-register. It's not working for me. Still says that no posts match my criteria.

The link works for me, but not for any non-mod friends I IMed the link to.  There must be some odd setting on the page.  I will poke Jeff :)

The page was indeed only accessible to those with access to edit it, which was a mistake. Sorry for the error, and it has been fixed now. :)

What is the maximum capacity of the event?
Title: Re: Winter Formal Masquerade Ball 2008
Post by: Jamiche on January 09, 2008, 11:11:46 am
Attendance will be capped at 350.  This will allow for event staff, and to fit within fire code for the ballroom.

Question--how are people with glasses supposed to wear masks? Are there any masks that could go under glasses?

Are you going to let us know when the attendence list is full?
Title: Re: Winter Formal Masquerade Ball 2008
Post by: Jamiche on January 09, 2008, 08:19:25 pm
You can try to make some sort of mask that attaches to your glasses, or if it is an option, contacts.  There are also the masks that are on sticks... you just have to hold it in place.  Unfortunately, I don't have a ready/easy answer for those attendees that have glasses (one of the organizers is in a similar situation... if she comes up with a brilliant solution, I'll bug her to post it.)

Since registration has only been up for a week, I don't have any numbers yet.  But as we approach our capacity, we will be sure to post so that people know that we are getting close.  If it's possible, I will try to post updates on attendance before that as well.

I am actually not sure what I am going to do about masks and glasses.  I am going to try attaching a mask to my glasses first and see how that goes.

I've found that attaching a mask to eyeglasses is uncomfortable (unless the mask is VERY light). I have to wear my glasses to function and cannot wear contacts. I'm pondering making some sort of wide brimmed hat with fabric hanging down in front. I may even fix my Katamari head back to the way it was when it was a full mask (only problem is that I can't dance wearing that head). So I'm kinda stuck, too. ???

hope you all have a blast tho :)

For those of you who are coming to the general meeting this Saturday at the hotel...

We will have mask making supplies available, and will be offering this after the main portion of the meeting.  There will also be dance lessons, for those who want to learn a new dance, or brush up on skills.

If you need a mask, check out your local Party City. Since Mardi Gras is around the same time, they have quite a selection of masks. Also, check out their old halloween merchandise, that's where we found ours today.

Hi guys,

We are looking for people to help staff this event.  If you know how to ballroom dance and would like to help other people learn, if you'd like to help out with registrations or refreshements, or anything else, please PM me, or e-mail us at masquerade@kumoricon.org.  You do not have to be Kumoricon staff to help out at this event, you just have to want to help. :)

If you have questions, please let us know.  Thanks, and we hope to see you at the event!

Here are some online sellers of masks. And if you order now, the mask might make it in time for the ball!

One could probally take the lenses out of their glasses and tape them to their mask maybe?

Lenses need to be a specific distance from the face to work.  I am likely going to take the opposite route and make my glasses into a mask by attaching a paper shape to them.

Will there be another masquerade held before kumoricon? Like in the spring or something? Just curious.

Sayda - While we would prefer if people pre-register (it gives an idea of how many to expect, and we have a max capacity that we cannont exceed) registration will available at the door until we reach capacity.

VampireFangs - No, we will not be hosting another ball until the actual con itself.  We are, however, hoping to do some other mini-events, and will post when we have more info :)

Title: Re: Winter Formal Masquerade Ball 2008
Post by: Jamiche on January 25, 2008, 12:31:14 am
Admission for the dance is being sold online via the same setup we use for con registration.  You can find all the information here (http://www.kumoricon.org/?page_id=135).  we will be selling registration for Kumoricon 2008 at this event, but if you attended '07 or already have pre-reged for '08, you save $5 on admission.

I just had a random thought (and I might not be the only one who's thinking this), but what if someone went to the Kumori Con table first, pre-reged for 08', then walked over to the dance reg table. Could they still save $5?

Yes. There's no "waiting period" before you're eligible for the discount. :)

Just a little bit o a question, if you staffed last con (2007) and are staffing in 2008 do you get the discount as well or no??
Title: Re: Winter Formal Masquerade Ball 2008
Post by: Jamiche on January 29, 2008, 09:52:29 pm
The discount works if you either attended or staffed in '07, or have pre-reged or are signed up as staff in '08.  So you're good to go ;)

We have lists from previous years for both attendee and staff (although I''m pretty sure I can verify that you were staff :P), so it's not required that you bring your badges from last year.  If you are able to, however, it will help speed up the process at the door.

Ahh. :< I'll make sure to get there early, then.

Also! Is there a place at the MCCC where we'd be able to change before entering? I ride Tri-Met everywhere, and I suspect a lot of other people do also.

We do have some limited space where you can finish getting ready, although your best bet is to come as prepared as you are able to.  Just ask at the door, and they can direct you.

I cosplayed, even if it was hard to tell. ^^'' I was one of the Renos, lol. Not the one who got the prize, though. I was the one spazzing out on the dance floor when one of the somewhat upbeats songs came on. ^^ I had a tie on, and I don't have a wig yet, so I may have been hard to recognize. I had to tell a few people who I was. ^^'' I didn't see many cosplayers, and it made me sad. I was hoping there would be more of them.

Agreed ^^ It was sad that there where no t many of us out there... was hopin to see more as well.

However I guess ppl are still looking for the pieces to their costumes, I was a bit over enthusiastice... though my Reno Cosplay from last year >< Just added the wig... damn that thing was itchy, made my real hair look all curly or like I was loosing it all in little random splotches! ><

A well... Can't wait to be at it again at this year's Con, I got me Ichigo Cosplay all ready as well as My Reno Woot Woot!!

So yeah... How was this particular exp.  for everyone else I wonder?? I saw alot of ppl including myself, untill later that night.  just sitting on the side  lines or down stairs.

I had a good time, didn't like waiting in the cold though.... I was the one in the light blue and white dress. It felt a tad long and I was bummed that half of the people left after the awards. Other than that, it was awesome!
