Title: Important Schedule Change
Post by: procyon on August 30, 2004, 06:44:06 pm
Due to circumstances beyond our immediate control, we have had to change the hours our con will operate slightly. Instead of running for 24 hours, the con will close around midnight Saturday and Sunday night, and will reopen at 8AM in the morning. This doesn't affect any major programming events, as everything was scheduled to end at or before midnight anyway. We apologize to those con-goers that were looking forward to not sleeping and hanging out in the gaming or viewing rooms. Of course this doesn’t affect any private room parties that any of you have been planning (rejoice all ye insomniacs!).

Good... Procyon posted this here as well as the front page.  I would have done the same.

I'd like to emphasize the importance of this, folks. The hotel may not like it if a lot of us are hanging around in the lobby after hours, especially those who aren't rooming at the hotel.

If you want to stay up, all we ask is that you enjoy yourself in someone's hotel room. :) After all, aren't room parties more interesting than viewing rooms, anyway? (please abide by the curfew rules, though...)

The Staff are doing everything they can to ensure that this affects this year's con experience as little as possible.

What about the Fanfiction Bedtime Stories? We were going to break at curfew and regroup later for the more adult stuff.

This is going to sound like advice someone might give to a couple getting a little too "hot and heavy" in public, but "Get a Room!"

When you regroup, especially since you may be talking about "adult stuff" I'm hoping you can find someone in your group who is staying at the hotel and your meeting can be moved there.  Because of insurance issues, we can't use convention space, and because of your topic, it would be best if hotel staff weren't listening in.  :)

hahahah!   Been a while since I have seen a convention staff member using discression on message boards.

Other than that.  Good luck and I'll see you all there.

Rem:

Has there been any issue regarding adult content in fanfiction? Last I heard, we were trying to make sure that anything happening in public (with or without badge checks/curfews) would be rated no higher than "PG-13." Unless I'm getting it mixed up with last year's.

Tom:

Do you plan on spending the whole time lounging around in that sailor outfit? If so, then I think three hours will be more than enough. ;)

Rem is fine.  It's an unofficial gathering of adults getting back together after curfew to talk about more mature aspects of fan fiction.  There are con people who are going to be there, but it is a private activity not taking place in con or common hotel space.

Okay... if all of those statements are true, then it sounds like Rem's plans are perfectly fine and good to go.

actually, you would need to talk to filkaeris about that. she is running the bedtime stories event. and in the thread on that topic, she proposed that from 11 to midnight in the actual event room it would be 18 and over with badges checked, and r rated fic sharing permitted.

i have no attachment to any particular outcome; especially if the event, per se, has to close down as early as midnight, then thereafter folks who wanted to continue could adjourn to someone's room or a cafe or something. but please post opinions in PM's to filkaeris, and/or in that thread. thank you and much love.

I heard today that we can probably allow some events to go a little past midnight, possibly as late as 1am. We just can't have anything starting at midnight. I'm sure the bedtime stories etc. will run without a hitch if everyone is aware of what's going on.
