I'm going as Jade from Abyss on one of the days.
Anyone else up for Tales of cosplay? :-\ If there's enough people, maybe it'd be smart to consider a shoot?

Well, it's unfortunate that no one else has posted, but...I just want to say that my Jade cosplay is all set and ready to go, wig and all. The axe-spear weapon I bought at the costume shop is actually pretty cool looking, too.
I'll either wear it Saturday or Sunday.

Yeah, well you always have to keep in mind that those active on the forums make up a very small number of con-goers, when compared to the total amount of people there. So, I am sure you will find more people, they just probably are not active on here. ^_^

Jade happens to be my favorite Tales character. Not only is his VA going to be at this Con but someone is cosplaying as him. I'll have to make sure to get pics.
I THINK there may be someone coming as Guy, but I'm not 100% sure. He never uses the forums, so when I get a chance I'll ask him.

It was called The Anime List, which was a game where selected people would make their own choices to make a list about a certain anime subject and then the audience would vote for the best choice of that subject.

That's a good question. We could find out if he plans on hosting any panels or plans on doing an autograph session. He'll also probably be showing up at the guest dinner and if I can get admission to that, I'll talk to him about the shoot.

I also wanted to mention, you should respond to the photoshoot schedule topic when you get a chance so you can let them know what time you want to schedule the Tales shoot.

It's really difficult to with the schedule not out yet, because I'm participating in the karaoke contest, in which I'm pretty sure will be held on Saturday...so I have to go to the auditions and the final contest (whether I make it through or not, because two of my other friends will be participating and so there's bound to be at least one person who make it through).
I'll just say Saturday for now, and update it later.

Awesome. Why don't you wear it? It'd be great seeing a Tales of Eternia cosplayer. I've never seen any Eternia cosplayers before and Farah's one of my favorite Tales characters.

Okay, the Tales shoot (as well as the RPG shoot, so we can combine shoots for a bigger group picture for the RPG shoot) is at 11AM in the park on Saturday. I hope that works for everyone.

Did this ever happen? o_o I was late by a half hour (stupid car ride) and saw no one about in the park, do figured it was over. Then I met up with some Tales people and they thought it was Sunday, not Saturday, at 11...so I dunno, since I wasn't there...same goes for the RPG shoot, guh.

For Kumoricon 2008 my cosplay group will be cosplaying as Jade, Anise, and Legretta.

Norma <3 If you do get a Tales character I'm sure the shoot will be scheduled for a different time then Phoenix Wright. For 2007 Tom did a great job of making a photoshoot thread and it allowed everyone to schedule the shoot as well as seeing when other shoots were and where they were going to be.

That's awesome. Hopefully more people will be cosplaying from Tales of ______ as well and we can get a group together for a photoshoot this year.
Nobody in our group has started on their costumes yet, but we're still wrapping things up for Sakuracon.

I'll be going as either Guy or Natalia on sunday and Sheena on part of saturday. I've got a Presea, Genis, Zelos and Noishe coming with me and some of them will be cosplaying Jade, Tear, and Tokunaga... we might possibly have an Anise and Dist as well, but they might not be able to make it to K-con.

just had an idea... we might want to have separate photoshoots for ToS and TotA (since they seem to be the most popular) and maybe another one for general tales like we did at Sakuracon. Since people are cosplaying different ones on different days. Just an idea... who knows, maybe we'll just be having a general tales gathering all the time XD. that's pretty much what we did at sakuracon- we had a Raine, two Genises, two Sheenas, a Noishe, a zelos and a dist running around together... I don't know what it is about Tales of ____ cosplayers, but we seem to have a strange magnetic thing going on XD.

Actually, I think I have pictures of you as Jade from Kumoricon 07 too... god, I have a knack for taking way to many pictures of the same person... like that one Hughes cosplayer... er, anyway... I thought it worked out well to have the two different shoots.
so, I want some input from fellow Tales of ____ cosplayers. Should I cosplay guy or natalia? I just can't decide. I'm leaning toward Natalia... sort of... but that's only because I don't think I can pull of Guy very well.

hmm... I'm thinking I'd be better as Natalia, considering I'm even shorter than Anise is supposed to be... (I'm not going to grow anymore XD barely 5 foot at 16... it sucks) But you're right, I could go either way...

As I said before I'm going as Anise and I'll be with a Jade and Legretta. I may also have convinced a classmate who is thinking about going as Tear or Natalia if she has the time. As far as seperate shoots go that may be a good idea. We'll see what everyone's doing and figure it out when the con gets closer if that sounds good to all you guys.

At Sakuracon I saw the most beautiful thing....A Japanese Tales of the Abyss group O___O
I REEEAAAALLYYY want to cosplay as Asche, but just seeing them made me feel like poo on a stick.
And even when I wanted to cosplay togainu no chi....I saw another AWSOME asian group....why me?
But I guess I could still probably do it, but I can't find a good wig OR cosplay.....making one is out of the question...believe I tried and failed horribly.
But duuuude I LOVE Jade! he's my second favorite character from T.O.T.A.! well he used to be my first, and I used to think Asche was an asshole but awsome...but when he died I fell in love, it was SO freakin sad!
but expect me to take lots of pictures of you at the con! I'm still thinking about cosplaying as Asche though.

Yeah, Jade is my favorite from TOA. That's why my cosplay group decided to do it so Shadowfate could be Jade. ^_^()
I'm currently working on Anise's puppet. So far it's great and once it's done I'll get pictures up for you guys to see.
Sekitan bun, if you really want to cosplay Asche than do it. Cosplay's about having fun and practice makes perfect!

I just thought I'd let you know that we'll be cosplaying from TOA on Sunday. Does that work for everyone else as far as getting a group photoshoot together? If so let's get one set up soon so it doesnt end up last minute like some of the ones last year.

Sunday is perfect! I'll be Natalia then and my Jade, Tokunaga, Tear and Dist will be cosplaying TotA then too, and of course the tentative Anise... and I'll be Sheena on Saturday, so that works out just fine.
I won't be cosplaying ToL this year, but I'm thinking about Norma for next kumoricon... I'll take lots of pics of you, though, jing. And there was a Fringe? I totally missed that! I saw the Peony, though... that was awesome!

sk_chan Oh--! thank you so much for the photo. Your Dist was incredible, I especially love your petals. They were so brilliantly constructed. On Friday, I briefly saw you as Jade and wanted a photo with you so bad! However, i had to rush to another place so i was not able to :(

Oh yes--! Our Peony was able to make it, she was the Jade from Friday, but Fringe had to go to a panel right before the photoshoot :( I wanted to drag her into the photoshoot so bad... She cosplayed as Guy on Friday :)
Unfortunately, i do not think i will be make it to the Sunday shoot but I will try coming over to see it! :)

yes, next year, next year. I think I've persuaded one of my friends to be Jay, which would be awesome! And I maybe might have a shirley too... she still has to play the game, but I think she'll do it. NormaXMoses would be awesome! must complete game and costume... must... Maybe for sakuracon 09 if my cosplay schedule clears up at all... which it probably will.
I think I saw your friends both as jade and guy, but I missed fringe... how could I?!?! aw well, maybe I'll see them at Kumoricon in costume?

Jing - That's too bad about Sunday, but hopefully you can come by and at least see it.
I have a few questions for you guys while I'm thinking about it. Jade is taking care of his own costume, so all I have to worry about is getting glasses for him. That's no big deal BUT Legretta is moving near me for school and I'll be making Legretta with her so I can teach her how to make her own costumes since who helped her before wont be available. Does anyone have any pictures of Legretta lying around they could send/link me so I can have some better ref. images?
PS - I posted on the photoshoot thread that ToA would be on Sunday. When we figure out what time I'll post it there as well.

However, my friends who is cospalying as Asch and Luke might be able to wear it for Kumoricon. Don't worry about the Fringe, she was only in it for Sunday and she had to zoom away for 2 hours before the ToA shoot.

Yeah Sunday as in 2nd day. Kumoricon is weird like that Sat-Mon instead of Fri-Sun.
I was thinking around 10 or 11 on Sunday? That way the cosplay contest and game tournaments don't interfere. What does everyone else think?

10 Should be fine with my group. I know one of my friends really wants me to cosplay plum with her that morning so we can do the wakey wakey dance, but I should be changed into Natalia by 9ish. I'll make sure it's okay with everyone, but I'm pretty sure it will be, as long as the kirk thorton panel isn't then... we must all go see the beloved voice of Jade... Anyway, I'll check with all of them, but it should be fine. We might want to wait and see what else is going on at that time. I know the one at Sakuracon was really hard to go to because there was cosplay chess, Ali Project and the Gaia panel all at the same time as the shoot... don't want that again...

As long as you plan anything 11 or earlier it usually doesn't clash with anything (at least not at Kumoricon) For now I'll post it as 10 on the photoshoot forum but make a note that it's pending if any events conflict with it.

I've finished with Anise's dress and sleeves. Now it's time for the cape, dagger, shoes, and to finish up the puppet. Sooner I get her done the better since I have my other costume and our groups cosplays for Sakuracon are going to take a looong time.

I've also got a friend going as Jade and another as tokunaga. My dist from Sakuracon might be coming too and we're still hoping our Anise's parents will have a change of heart and let her go, but the chances look pretty slim... and I've got a very small chance of a sync, but it's still maybe a possibility, although probably not. you can add those to the list, but the sync and anise aren't very likely.

I'll have to ck everyone's cosplay out. I've been wanting to do a tears of cosplay for a while now(partly cause some of the designs are by kosuke fujishima). I've thought of maybe tears and the two main characters to the new symphonia game are ones I thought of doing. However, I'm loaded on cosplay and doubt I have the money to spare to make any for this year.

I still want to cosplay luke from Tales of the abyss. I think it'd be fun to walk around with luke's personality. Maybe take something from a vender as a joke and say the mansion will pay for it XD. I have no idea where I'd find a wig and a weapon. The weapon I could live without but without a wig it'd be pointless.

Yeah, most people will be in TotA for the shoot, but the shoot is labeled Tales of ____ so we could have some other rouge Tales of ____ cosplayers there. We can mix the shoots, or you guys can have your own its up to you.

There is a park across the street from the hotel that runs parallel to the mall. It's not very big, but that may be a place to think about. Other than that I've been to the area a lot, but I haven't gone exploring. If you'd like ~Boogiepop~ and I could probably meet up one day and go scouting for spots that are close and see if we find anything better than that park since I'm sure that's going to be everyone elses idea as well.

I think it would probably be best if we get a couple spots down before con though. You never know how much time everyone has to be there or if they get annoyed with people moving around a lot ::{Like I did at the Guilty Gear photoshoot at sakuracon this year}:: I'm for scouting some good spots out with Aiko before con that we can all cruise before the shoot to see what's best :D That's actually the one part of Portland that I know well XD

Yeah, we'll either want to claim it first (as in a few days) or find a spot not too far away that nobody knows about. It's honestly not the best Con location for photoshoots, but we'll see what we can do. ~Boogiepop~ will be up here in a few days and we can see about getting together to go scouting. We could always say on the photoshoot thread that we'll be meeting in the park next to the hotel and then if we don't find something better we're set. What do you guys think? Of course! You don't have to be from TotA to join in on the fun. Not only that but most Tales of _____ cosplayers will know exactly who you are.
Not to mention it can be amusing to do cross over pictures.

Tsukiko gonna make me cry T-T. I bought tales of legendia but my ps3 has some problems processing it T-T. I am not past the first fight sequence or where you enter the town on the ship or something like that. Because the screen is covered by trees because it gives a faulty camera angle >_<. I wanna know your character D:. <3 tales of series.

I don't how long it takes to get amphigory wigs ::{I still should probably order my wigs soon >:}:: But I think I'll do it at the beginning of next month and I'll find one that aiko can help you with Squallin and show you so you can order it. Then we can all get together and learn the ways of wigs. Sound like a plan?

Amphigory takes 2-3 weeks guys. I'd be ordering your wigs NOW, and if not then I'd find something else that'll work from Cosworx as they're usually faster getting the wigs to you.

yeah, amphigory takes a while. It took like... 2 weeks for me to get my Natalia wig, which is, unfortunately, a little darker than I'd hoped... but eh, oh well! I've got some major styling to do too... Gotta redo my Sheena wig and I'm going to try to make my Nat wig do the weird wavy thing it does... eh... what fun!
I'm plugging along on my costume, though... almost got the whole white shirt thing done... how's everyone else doing?

So, i was wondering, If its possible, Could you and i take a picture holding up a sign saying; "We love Richter!" with a heart around it? We call him Richter. Thats like, his nickname. x333

Aiko took me fabric shopping today and I bought my Legretta fabric. My roomie is going to help me cut it and teach me how to sew ::{Let's cross our fingers that I will learn well.}:: Also guns version one failed. I used some floral foam as a base and all the little fiberglass dust got in my eyes and immobalized me for a night. Version 2 will be cardboard.
EDIT: And I edit my post. The base for one of my guns is almost complete. I finally got the ball rolling.

I got the big ones that go around the shoulders okay, but I'm not exactly sure what'd look best with the neck ones. I could do a zipper and then just have it be ruffly, or I could make a giant bag type thing and make it ruffly by squishing it all together with my orange neck ruff... any ideas from you guys?

If I were you, I'd make a regular ruffle around the neck that's wide enough for your head to go through, then make a separate choker piece with the orange ruffle on it. You can put eye hooks on the ends of the choker so it won't be noticeable. If you just make a bag type thing and put the choker around it, there's a chance it won't quite ruffle as intended and just fold over and look not-so-lovely. D8 If it's already ruffled, when it folds over it'll still look like a ruffle. OR you could make the neck elastic... But that might be a bit too much work.

yeah, me too XD. I just realized how entirely confusing it was... what I meant was for the white shirt underneath the orange/yellow ruff. Should I gather it and use a zipper? or should I gather it and do a sort of drawstring type thing to gather it? I already have the ruff finished and just used velcro, so that works alright but I'm just trying to figure out what to do with the stuff under it. I think I'll just experiment with both and see which one looks better.

Hm, I don't have much experience with zippers (I've only attatched one... I'm pretty inexperienced D8;;), but I know that a drawstring should work pretty well. The only thing is that there will also be visible...gathering(?) underneath the orange part (if I'm understanding you right), which might look weird, but it shouldn't be too big of a problem...

just an update. Luke is on for sure, and my gf has tear all ready. Our costume should be arriving shortly and I just got a wig commission offer for $90 so I'm taking it. Everything should arrive a good week or two before con. All I need is the day to cosplay.

How many people here were at last year's Tales gathering and who were you dressed as? I wasn't cosplaying as any Tales characters, but I attended the gathering dressed as Angelo from Dragon Quest 8.
I also wanted to mention that it might be a better idea to change the time for the Tales shoot. I looked on the schedule and it's currently scheduled at the same time as Kirk Thornton's panel, so we should change the time if Kirk Thornton's panel is still scheduled at the same time when the official schedule is made, which will be in the first part of August.

The reason we made the shoot at 10 was so that everyone could attend. Making it earlier a lot of people wont make it, and later people have other costumes, panels, and the cosplay contest. We have the day set down firmly as Sunday, so we either change the time of the shoot and have less people attend or we can skip Kirk's panel. What do you guys think?

Haven't been able to play them game through due to looooots of stupidness, and then all my friends decided they needed to play it first when I got it back from a little thief. What I did play of it... While Jade wasn't bad at all, he definitely wasn't my favorite character. Now, if Chloe Valens' voice actor was there...
But since I now know who he is, it might be a good idea to move this one, yeah.

Aiko's out of town until the 11th so it seems and I don't know if she's gonna be interneting while there. Since she seems to be the person that set this all up and seems to know when everything is going on I wanna throw in a vote for waiting until she posts to know what's going on.
Though personally I don't really care what time the photo shoot is as long as it isn't some ungodly hour in the morning.

While I would love to meet the person who does jade's voice I definitely would rather goto the photoshoot and I personally agree with boogie's "no ungodly hour in the morning" idea. The only person I'd skip anything to see would be anything with steven blum <3. Anyways I'll just wait for a decision, whatever's decided is fine with me. I'll cosplay luke on that day.

I was afraid that was going to happen. I've got a time line set for what I have to do and when to get it all done. I'm doing as much up here on mine as I can. Right now we're mostly doing props and Jade. We'll for sure be able to get Legretta done though as since I no longer work at JoAnn's I don't have anything to do BUT costumes.

Crappy webcam pictures are crappy but it looks sweet irl. All I have to do on this one is minimal touch ups, paint it, put on the sculpty additions that I want, and possibly buff the thing with floor polish. Now to start on my pistol.

I don't know if ~Boogiepop~ was planning on viewing the cosplay contest or not, but for Jade and I pretty much anytime on Sunday works for us. We could leave it at 10 for the people who can come at 10 and then plan ANOTHER shoot for later in the day for when other people can come.
What do you guys think of having 2 shoots? One at 10 and one at like 2 or something?

Just speaking from past experience, Tales cosplayers tend to flock together anyway, so we might all end up just hanging around from 10-2 anyway XD. although, then again, maybe not. I guess it depends on the con, but we definitely did that at Sakuracon. It was like a huge parade of symphonia characters marching through the con with our trusty boom box blaring the field music XD.

We could all meet at Kirk's panel and go from there. I know what they say about 11-2 not being a good photoshoot time, but that's when we had to do most of our shoots last year and everything turned out great. Jade and I don't have anything planned but Kirk's panel, and I think ~Boogiepop~ is going to be with us most of the day as well (?) We love meeting new people so hanging out in a mass of Tales of ___ wouldn't bother us.

Pretty sure it's at 10 like you said, but once the official schedule gets posted if they moved it then we can fix the photoshoot time(s) again. I don't know if Tom likes the idea of changing the Tales of ____ shoot so much, but it's not like we can do much about it.
And YAY! I went to meet up with ~Boogiepop~ today and we got quite a bit done on Legretta. We should be finishing her up on Tuesday. Now to work on Anise...

I just finished Anise's shoes today. All that's left is finishing the cape, the sleeve cuffs and stocking tops, and to finish tokunaga. I'm planning on finishing her before tomorrow when I help ~Boogiepop~ wrap up Legretta, we'll see what happens. Even I get tired.

Although I'm now contemplating on whether to bring Jade or not...I really want to, but it's a big costume with a biggish prop, and we're having transportation changes where I have to walk two miles to get to a Greyhound bus stop on my last day, and I'm not sure if I want to haul that all with me on a bus. x_x asdfghjkl;;

A couple pieces of bad news...but first a piece of goo news.
Good news: All my Luke stuff is here, everything is on schedule and I have my full costume prepared.
Bad news:
-My gf might not be able to do tear due to her costume arriving and being to small and not enough time to get the costume fixed.
-I may have to scratch the costume due to my hair being to long for my wig and I can't do short haired squall. Not to mention many friends would be highly upset if I cut my hair. I'm currently looking for something to keep my hair underneath like a bald cap but atm I'm having no avail.
Sorry for late bad news guys, hopefully things will work out and the person is just working really hard to get the costume pieces resent and isn't gonna bother having me send them back and that's why I haven't been given a return address yet >_<.

Squallin, there's a wig shop around the convention. Perhaps you can buy a wig cap from there? You can probably just google map "Wigs Portland Oregon" and get the phone number to call and see if you can pick one up before con. If not that you can always try the dealers room too. I know that Sak sold some wigs so I would almost give that if they are there they would be selling wig caps too.

For the wig issue, use a wig cap. My Jade and I both have long hair and we get our hair into wigs easily with one. You can get them at a wig store or you can make one yourself out of nylons. The directions to do it are on cosplay.com. It's fairly simple, and I'm sure even a few hairnets would work instead of a wig cap. I've seen people with waist long hair get wigs on, so I know you can do it!

Oh, the karaoke contest auditions ends at 2PM supposedly, so I might be a little late (as I'll be entering and I have two other people I want to see, so I might just want to stay for the whole thing), unless we schedule it at 2:30 or something.
Then again, the actual contest begins at 3:30 (woah, early for a karaoke contest, but that's nice 'cause in all the other times it's been SO LATE), so I'd only have an hour in-between...so maybe 2PM would be best?

well, you'll be the second zelos. (Oh yes! I get 2 lovely pervs to abuse!) There will be tales cosplayers for all three days, probably, but I know my group- Sheena, Zelos, Noishe, and Presea- will be in costume on saturday. Can't wait to hang out with you then! More Zelos is always a good thing! Saturday is sort of the more symphonia geared shoot, and sunday is the abyss geared shoot, however, all tales cosplayers are welcome at all the shoots.

On another note, me and Aiko got done about 2 hours ago with a 10-hour Legretta making marathon. It's still not done but god damn is it close. All that is left is fabric painting on the swirlys, the circle on the back, and the stripes on the white skirt, finishing up the gloves, spraying a little adhesive onto the wigs ponytail and tacking on the horseshoe thing a bit more, remaking the tights, putting on a few finishing touches on the gun, and possibly putting interfacing on the inside of the dress tails.
Hopefully you all shall wow at Aiko's handy work because Legretta is looking pimptasitic.

I'll be damned if I don't get it done. Mostly it's all just simple touch ups minus the gloves, paint, and new tights. Tights 1.0 did not work the way we thought.

Gah! You're going to make me blush knock it off. If you're able to I would interface the inside of the dress tails. It lays alright but I think it'd be better with it. It's up to you though. Not to mention you did just as much work as I did so don't act like I did it all :P Yeah Tights 2.0 FTW...

you'd be surprised what's out there. Zelette is one of the less disturbing ones. Infact, even as a devout sheelos fan, I can deal with that one. Believe me, there are much stranger ones. As they say, if you can imagine it, there's undoubtedly yaoi of it.
Tights are a pain... I have to wear two pairs for Sheena, since one is sorta see through and the other has some holes, so I have to layer them...

Yep 26 episodes ;D If I translated correctly from the magazine (I could be wrong!) they're condensing the game into 26 episodes of anime. They said it was very hard and originally they had a lot more. Once again, I may be wrong, my Japanese isn't perfect.

How should I go about making the skirt poof like that?
I would wear/make a petticoat, but as that skirt is pretty short in some places, and I don't want it to show... thanks guys 8D;;;

hmm... the skirt could be problematic. very very very very stiff interfacing, MIGHT work, but I doubt it. in this case, I'd actually suggest using interfacing and wire. like in a sort of hoop skirt-ish way. or maybe just like... along the pettlie things to make them stick out. actually, if you could get it to poof at the top and then use interfacing on the bottom just for stiffner, it'd work... I have no idea how to do that, though...
huge fork... I guess we could make that out of wood, but it'd be really heavy... I'm not a fan of insulation foam, just 'cause it breaks really easily and I don't understand the bondo theory...

If the fork was made out of wood then it would give me a nice work out for the arms.

So unles I become a cosplay genious within the next few weeks it looks like I'll be doing Nebilim with a lab coat and not the replica version. With the wings and the cut outs, and the split colors....it's a little insane. I'll keep trying to figure it out though. If not at least there is another version of her I can go as.

I'd likely consider doing it if I was more in shape (maybe it's a good thing that I don't work out enough lol).

then i slept for 6 hours and returned to it once more LOL .
i did not like the beginning i must state , i was like " ARR EMiL YER MAKiN' ME ANGRY WiMPY . " even though i adore him hah !
i'm just taking a small break to finish some homework & give my sisters some time with the game systems >w>; ~ .

Oh, so it's in cement now (yes, cement not stone). I'm going to cosplay Richter. I'm thinking of doing the in-game version of him with dark red hair and tanned skin instead of the art version with pink hair and light skin, because he looks just plain silly in those pictures.
Yay~ A Lloyd! Speaking of masks, I think we should all get in one big group and all go to the Masquerade ball together. And waltz. I was thinking of making a mask for Luke with his little demon thing that's on the back of his coat, but Richter with a mask would be fun as well. I could paint glasses on it!

Has anyone thought of wearing cologne? I was thinking that it'd be interesting for someone to pretend they're cosplaying as Decus cosplaying as a different character.

It took longer than I expected to start making it, but I almost have the costume finished. The fabric has been made and now all that needs to be done is to get it measured.

Well, strapping (not sure what the actual term is) isn't required for crossplay, which might be what parents worry the most about. I got an hour long talk from my mom about the unhealthy-ness of it when she found out I was planning on crossplaying. I don't know if this would apply to your situation at all, but my back-up is that if I crossplay, I'm less likely to end up wearing a really short skirt or low cut top.
...although seeing as I'm cosplaying as Luke and Yggdrasil, I'm not sure if I can still use that argument.

That'd be awesome if there was an Emil. I'm going to be Richter, and Posiee-Chan is going to be Alice. Although it might be a little bit sad if Richter is shorter than Emil... I'll have to get tall shoes!
