Here is our request:
Everyone who sews starts to get a "stash" of fabric and supplies left over from previous projects. Sometimes you'll end up with a half a yard of some beautiful fabric and you SWEAR you're going to use it someday, but you never get around to it. Or maybe you have different items you purchased for a costume that just didn't work the way you wanted them to, so you had to use something else and now you're stuck with this thing you have no use for. All that stuff adds up doesn't it?
We're asking people to go through their sewing "stash" (or your parent's or friend's stash with permission) and bring in a few things that you think someone else might find useful, but you no longer want. We can't offer much of anything in return, but we'll keep a list of who makes donations and publicly thank you.
I think the actual reason for this is still secret, but it ties in with a fun con event.

Hmm... sounds interesting! :) I'll have to see what I can come up with. I haven't completely finished all of my costumes to be honest though >.< so we'll see what I have when I'm done.

You're gonna cosplay in the sewers? What?

It's called a Homonym. Look it up! ;)
(You made me giggle though. I come up with some strange contest ideas, but that wasn't one of them!)

I can bring some green plush fabric from my Datirimon plushie a few years ago.
-
Great, thank you! Material is great, so are bobbles and bits.
Maybe different people have extra trim or sequins or fake jewels. If lots of the cosplayers bring in a little, we'll have a great stash built up.
If anyone happens to be at a $1 store and sees things like strung pearls, beads, or ribbon, that would be great too. (We can't pay you back for this, so don't spend more than a few dollars).
-
when do you need it?
-
no no, not homonym, just poor grammar.
i think the word you all were looking for is "seamstress" or "seamer"
ok, now say it with me...

Thanks! I didn't want to say "seamstress" and "tailor" wasn't right either. I haven't heard of a "seamer" before, but that's a good gender neutral word.
I was just trying to avoid, "Seam-Person" :)

when do you need it?
Just go ahead and bring it with you to the con. We'll have a place at the info desk for it all.
If you do spend a few dollars buying something, make sure it's something you need too. Maybe keep the part you'd like to have on hand for yourself and donate the rest.

I think the idea of cosplaying in the sewers is much more fun. ;)
My mother sews often, and she has some extra fabric she was about to donate anyway. I'll bring it with me. :)
P.S. - I had an idea for something else to call people who sew. "Sewing hobbyist." Seamster is okay, but it's little-used and sounds rather wierd.
-
so i just bring it with me sunday?
-
How about "costumer"? ^_^

How about "costumer"? ^_^
But not all people who have extra fabric are costumers. My mom isn't. Well... she is occasionally, but not as a specific hobby.
-
i have some extra fabric from my cutting of tee shirts for san's costume...
i could bring that...
i and think that sewers worked just fine when the person reads it right... lol
you could type it sew-ers perhaps...
-
Wonderful! Sorry we can't give you more than a big thankyou!
The event that it's for is going to be so much fun!
You are also welcome to being glitter and fake jewels and seqins and and bits and bobbles like that. Don't bring anything that takes a long time to dry though.
Oh, and if you own a LOW Temperature glue gun (low temp only, please) feel free to bring it! (Hang on to this until the event-- you'll be able to figure out which event it's for, trust me).
-
what day is this secret event going to be on?
-
Monday.
