I was wondering, last year the DATING GAME was so wonderful. I want to know how to participate this year at 2007, are we even having one? I hope so.
If soooo....
Do we sign up? Because I want to be in it SOOOO bad.
Sorry to be so silly.

I wish I knew who ran this the last couple years. I've never made it to one of these but I just know its awesome.
I'll try and remember this next time I chat with Programming staffers.
-
I saw my first one at Sakura-con this year, and it looked like the organizers of the dating game just picked people out of the crowd that wanted to do it. I wanna do it, too, but they picked Jesus & Satan instead of me.
-
IM TOBI
-
Yeah I saw mine at Kumoricon last year and it looked like they had them alreay chosen.
Strange.
I'm going to get there UBER early just to dibs a spot.
[evil cackle]
Because that's how Hyatt does it from ACROSS.
tee-hee
Hello Tobi....?

it's a strangeee thing.
[SIGH]
But it works sooo well.

Id wanna play, but if it was differnt. Like if we had to play as our anime characters were cosplaying. And without those dumb reandom things we had to ask that were puled out of that hat.

You know how you can get your way?
Sign up to run it yourself!
I don't think anyone else has gotten their forms in to do it this year so why not you kimiski?
You could be the bachelorette if you wanted, get a friend to play the host and away you go! You make the rules!
-
Dating games are fun... Dating games are more interesting... when you up the Ante. Getting people who are comfortable with their sexuality. You get to see the tactics that guys and girls are willing to do at a convention, or the Classic Double Date but mixed up for fun. Shows how much your friends love you, if they are willing to explore for their friends.

-

-
I don't care who runs it just please make sure we have a BIGGER room this year! There were so many people crowded into the back last year it was nuts

I AGREEE.
Oh my gosh it was SOOO CROWDED last year that people were outside the door crowded.
I couldn't even leave without getting squished.

I am tall so I ened up like near a corner and I had to stay for a really long time because I had no other choice, it was fun an all but not that fun I didn't know anyone and I felt bad being in their way o.o
-
Say, who usually runs the game & who plans our questions?
-
Good Question Wash, I'll bet that someone who was in Programming last year would know that......
I certainly don't.
Although.
Hmmmm..... say you happened to be the one in charge of this event.
What stuff would you want to avoid it being scheduled next to?
I'm pretty sure that the Live Events room can have the anime dating game and cosplay chess in it. It's also plenty big.
-
Not sure. I'd prefer waiting until other event plans have been submitted.
-

I've been, but its all about the Man Auction and Bingo no Dating games. Anyways if it is a dating game, despite its a PG13 Con. The "Dating Games" should at least be 16 and older with my understanding of Washington Laws. Also held at night to avoid Conservative Parents launching a protest.
I've been to conventions where panels and events are age discriminatory pending on the topic. Shounen Ai Panels are 16 and older and held in the late afternoon. The standard debauchery is usually starts at midnight. Nothing is strange where you have 3 rooms showing all the different flavors. From Yaoi, Hentai, and random fun room.
The other random notes which I've learned from volunteering and going to so many conventions that the convention is liable for any negligence that happens as a result of any programing.
-
Figures that I would be gone when a thread on the Dating Game came out. >_<
Say, who usually runs the game & who plans our questions?
I can't remember who ran it last year but the year before that it was the kilt-guys who were at SakuraCon this year (@Wash - You were there too?).
From what I can tell the questions are from a long list set up just for Anime Dating Games. After going to one every time I'm at a convention I'm starting to recognize some of the questions.
For all the newcomers, here is how you are selected to be one of the three contestants:
First you are shown the lovely bachelor/bachelorette who will be asking the questions. They are then taken out of the room temporarly. Everyone who wants to go up then stands up and might go into the center of the room (to separate those who are standing in the back). The host(s) ask either/or questions such as "Which do you like better, Strawberry or Chocolate Pocky? Chocolate, raise your hands." Everyone who thinks chocolate is better raise their hands. The host(s) then say if the chocolate people should sit down or remain in the "selection process." This continues until there are 3 or 4 people left.
And to whoever it is we need to talk to about being one of the questioners, I too would be interested in becoming one. (I'll be Kyoya)
-

Ohh... *shivers* I was standing for the longest time and when someone got up I grabbed their seat. Right next to a really huge old guy who SMELLED so bad!! Its was HORRIBLE!! I ended up giving up my seat too xD

(@Wash - You were there too?).
Yeah, I saw the last two, where Mojo Jojo won a date, & where Jesus beat Satan out for the last victory. I tried to compete against Jesus & Satan, but the kilt guys turned me down because I favor pancakes over french toast.

I have assurances that this event has been cleared with Programming and will be taken care of. No more worries.

Did I mention in this thread they should have either
A segment of the Anime Dating Game after midnight for all the single chaperone aunts ware the winner is immediately whisked away to the park across the street for candlelight night picnic complete with astronomical star charts
OR
A version of who wants to marry a nerdy Millionaire? With WWTMANM the ladies compete in categories like LOTR, Star Wars and Star Trek Trivia, build a computer from a box of parts, make a cosplay outfit in 2 hours, SCI Fi costume fashion Show, and sword dancing. The winner would be crowned Princess Nerdia

I'd be willing to be a questionaire. Negima, you're a female, correct? If so, I could ask the girls & you could ask the guys. (P. S. I'm going as Ranma for the con).

Meh, I'm used to it. ^_^

Whoever's going to the meeting tomorrow should try & find out if anyone's been selected/made claim to running it this year.
-
this event does have staff, guaranteed.
I'm sorry that I did not verify this in this thread when I found out.
Rest assured it will happen.
-
But if you want to be in it, how do you exactly do that? Because I really want to be in it.
-
i didnt read through everything, but to the best of my knowledge the people running it pick the bachelors and bachelorettes ahead of time. dont know HOW much ahead of time, as when i did it they kinda ran up to me on the first day of the con and asked me to. i think it has alot to do with what costume youre in.
certain characters in the bachelors seat lend towards a funnier dating game. generally the more hoey (i was i-no when i was involved), or prude, or happosai-y, or even just angry the character is the more laughs you get, extremes are good for comedy.
-
jamiche is a good person to PM about that. She lurks the forums and reads a lot but rarely posts. I think she's in charge of it this year.
-
Oh really that is how it goes?
Hmm I will have to lurk around and see if my character would fit into it. Because Hyatt dies all the time. :OOO
jamiche? Is that her screen name I can contact her at?
I'm sorry to be so annoying with all of these questions.
-
i dont know if thats how it works thiese days (as im not even sure its the same people anymore) it might be a little more sophisticated, as in getting in contact with someone before the con for example. but thats how it was both when i was involved, and when my boyfriend did it up at sakuracon, where it was done by different people...sooo i dunno.
-
jamiche? Is that her screen name I can contact her at?
I'm sorry to be so annoying with all of these questions.
Yes, its her screen name.
Actually, she's already read this post. She almost posted but she decided not too. It seems I touched a nerve with that lurker comment and she wouldn't have posted anything appropriate.
Suffice to say, the people in charge know.
-
Ahh I see
Thank you very much~ :D
I will contact her soon<3
-
I thought about going to this at sakuracon but it looked packed and the huge crowd scared me off.
-
Well, the Live Events room should be able to hold a couple hundred people this year. More if they don't have chairs for this event (which they really should).
There should be plenty of room for you guys though.
-
So what is the final word? I haven't been able to find sign ups or what not and I would really like to see a version that isn't based on your cosplay. (As I tend to go as the randomly solider/pilot/guard) Also I do like the idea of having the girls answer questions ahead of time and the guy giving his answer. (or vice versa) But maybe that's just me.
-
There's another dating game of sorts going on too; if you check out The Slants (www.myspace.com/theslants), who will be performing at this year's Kumoricon, you can win a date with any member of the band (your choice)!
-
....OH MY GOD. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!!
[dies]

I was in the dating game last K-con, and it was a lot of fun. I totally flubbed the first question though, but at least the other two guys up there did also. I mean, we all picked Major Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell over Card Captor Sakura, but with all the potential reasons why, we just came up with wanting a more mature woman. We sucked. I was pleased with my other responses though, even if the randomness out of the hat kind of made things difficult. And I DID try to reply as my character would, which I feel all the contestants should.
Assuming the same rules as last year, I don't know how the initial bachelor/bachelorette is chosen, but the contestants are just picked out of the crowd, as Negima described earlier. Questions are pre-written, so the only improv is by the contestants. And while this is described as a dating game, no actual date happens, it's just for fun. I say this because some earlier posts made it sound like an actual matchmaking game. But seeing as I'm engaged, I'm happy the game is like this or I couldn't participate ^_^
-
^ he did answer one question that had the audenince laughing really har, when they were supsto answer really fast sounded sounded like he was saying "crush you with a giant pillow!!" in a really chibi voice
-
*waves*
Hi there, I'm one of the "kilt guys" from Slightly Anime, the group that did the dating game at SakuraCon. (My girlfriend and I did the dating game at K-Con last year since the rest of the group couldn't make it.)
I just got off the phone with Sven, our fearless leader, and yes, we will be doing the dating game at KumoriCon! I'm not sure how we'll be picking contestants for the bachelor/bachelorette spots, but the people competing for a date with them will once again be chosen semi-randomly from the audience.
See you at con!
-
Oh hey kilt dude!
If I'd known you were running it i would've emailed you for pictures!
As it is, you've got a lovely little collage slated to be on display outside the room. ;)
