Post by: gemineye42 on April 17, 2007, 01:24:11 pm
The tournaments currently on the schedule are as follows:

Halo 2 Teams
Mario Kart: Double Dash! Teams
Super Smash Brothers: Melee!
Soul Calibur III
Guitar Hero II
DDR Style
DDR Score
Rayman: Raving Rabbids
Wii Sports
Tekken 5
Guilty Gear: Accent Core
Naruto 4

If you have suggestions, you may post them and we will poll opinions. If enough people vote for your game, we will add it to the list. We may even ask to borrow your copy ;)

Thanks everyone!

Man, none of those are games I'm good at.  Heck, most of them I've never even played.

My suggestions:
KOF: Maximum Impact
Madden 2007
Athens 2004
Rumble Roses (maybe even RR XX)
(I wish there was a multi-player version of Tomb Raider)

Ooh, how about this?  If someone has a functioning Sega Genesis, I have Super Street Fighter II.

I believe DotA is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOTA, a subgame branching out from World of Warcraft. I think that is what they were referencing to, anyway.

Out of curiousity, what platform will the SC3 tournament be on? Because if it's anything other than PS then I'm screwed.

Ah, I was being dumb and think it was like SC2. But, I just looked it up and it was exclusively for the PS2.

So nevermind

The nice thing about a midnight tournament is that is conflicts with practically nothing!  Also, the size of the tournament would be a bit smaller since some people will have gone to sleep (yeah, the very few who go to sleep).

But those under age 18 cannot be in convention space after midnight, so many will be excluded. It's recommended to schedule events that aren't 18 and over events before midnight because of the Kumoricon curfew.

Oh man, some one suggested KoF Maximum Impact? Make it the second one if you take that. Its like a billion times better (and you can turn the crappy english dubbing OFF!!)

I also suggest Warhammer 40K: Dawn of war for a lan tournament, that would be awesome.

Maybe I didnt read through this enough. and maybesomeones mentioned this (im playing with the new Ds browser) but isent super smash bros. brawl for wii going to be out by the con cause I didnt see it on the tourney List.

That's a crap shoot.  In my personal opinion, I do not believe Brawl will be out before Kumoricon.  That, and if it was, there would be a very limited amount of time to understand Brawl and make tournament rules.

I organized a casual SSBM team tournament last year, and it was a total blast, I'd love to see one happen in an official capacity this year, it also saves the headache of Free-for-all Elimination rounds of 200+ people.

Also, there will probably be numerous copies of Street Fighter: Anniversary Collection, so we could easily do a SF:2 tournament on a PS2. However, there are some CRAZY good SF players at the con and it's not the most...exciting game to watch for some people.

I'd like to play it though, Guile ownz.

Edit: As far as Brawl goes, I heard that the release date was going to be june/july, but it seems to have been reverted to the hazy 2007 release date. I think that regardless of whether or not we've had much time to get used to the game, it should be played in a tournament, because who really needs to put in *that* much practice to have fun playing Smash Brothers? Just pick Pikachu and Lightning everything!

Or, y'know, snake. heh.

What about Capcom V.S. SNK 2? that would be a cool tourny for the enthusiasts of 2D fighters, and it would give the SNK fans (such as my self) a pleasurable set of options if they don't want to play with street fighter characters.

Alright, sorry for lack of more tournament info... for most of you gamers, you should be familiar with the more common / popular rules... which is probably what we'll be using.  Next week I'm done with school (till summer term, so I'll bust ass getting this stuff in)

Regulars :
MKDD, SSBM, DDR (points), GGAC, obligatory Naruto-ish whatever... these should be simple

Halo 3 instead of Halo 2, right?
No TBA on SSBB yet, but if its out, why not...

Tetris Attack - Let's have a real tourney this time...

DDR Style / Whatever - Maybe we can do some other rythmic game, unless we have people doing it, which is always a possibility, this really makes things harder... "style"

Guitar Hero 2 - By the con we may substitute 80's version, not to mention complications of X360 vs PS2... We'll see what we have to work with later.

Soul Calibur 2 vs 3... everyone likes 2, 3 was newer so we played it... no complaints going back, right?

PS3 Possibilities - Tekken 5 : DR (were sure as hell not playing 5 on ps2), Virtua Fighter 5 (woot)

More Wii games - Ippo will be out by the con, I hope to secure it in some form or another.  Raving Rabbits is on the list, but hell, wth.  They need some actual cool games.  Even cooking mama gets a bit old, and is really just hit or miss on how easy it is to do menial tasks.

Fighting games :
Oh man, am I a freak...  I will personally have every fighting game anyone and their mother plays, but I always hate moving more tournaments for that cause I play them too much.  And when it turns into me and my friends raping the top spots, I feel its a bit unfair... but those that appreciate the games want the good competition.  And since most of my gaming friends will probably be staffing the game room, it seems like it may be a little lopsided.
Who knows, I always recruit more breakaway people who wanna get good at fighting games and get em into the scene... if you wanna compete, play us, play at our weeklies, befriend us and we can all goto Vegas for Evolution as a PDX crew, etc...  Of course, I still always wanna accommodate what people want... without scaring them all away first.
... so...
Yeah, we can probably do some SSF2T from CCC2 or something.  Why play CvS2 when you can just play KoF?  KoF : Maximum Impact 2 Regulation A will be out by the tournament, KoF '98 Ultimate Match might be as well... We got KoFXI and such, but thats just not as fun.  Plus CvS2 is boring and takes too long.

And casual tournaments or whatever are real easy to throw together, I can help you out with that, I'll have a billion brackets and it shouldn't be hard at all.  Get enough people and we can make it an unofficial with prizes involved, I'm sure... As long as we get better prizes this year, eh?

With the KoF thing, as a HUGE KoF fan may I suggest KoF 2002? Its nice and fast and has one of the larger character casts. Not much on story line, but who wants story in a tournament right?

*edit* I have a copy and can lend it if thats an issue.

If we were having a KoF, Neowave > 2k2 IMO.
Its a more '98 style kof, with 2k2 systems... Way cooler, but like most KoF games, I doubt they'll bring much of a crowd...
BUT if kof98 ult comes out on PS2 by then, that will be the bomb ****, yo.  WOLFGANG KRAUSER...

BLITZBALL!!!

I have never played Neowave. How is the character selection? Is it for the sony? (it better be, sony has the best console controls for fighting games IMO) 2002 definatly has one of the better casts, and Im all about options unless neowave has a bigger one.

Neowave has everyone from 2k2 (except k9999) and more.
Saisyu, Jhun and Young Geese all make a comeback.  And are all amazingly powerful top tier characters.... along with Choi  (like we all didnt see that coming...)

Heck yes I have complaints.  :( Not so much that you're wanting to downgrade, but because you're assuming that everybody thinks this.  Why didn't you mention this in the SC2 vs SC3 thread, or create a new thread asking for opinions?

Please check that topic (http://www.kumoricon.org/forums/index.php?topic=2216.msg105807#new) for my reply. I posted there before I noticed the brief comment in this thread.

Anyway, the gist of it is this: I may have won the last SC2 tournament at Kumori Con, for example, but my two winning characters have changed so much in SC3 that I can't go back and play them again in SC2 without a massive amount of relearning. I think SC3 is a good game, and has different strengths and weaknesses than SC2, so we should have tournaments for BOTH if there are people who really want to play SC2.

For Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen! 4 (Which I own, that's why I know the name so well, I'm a big fan of the series.)
Do you have the save with every character and stage? It's only fun if you can pic from all 36 characters... I'm personally a Yakushi Kabuto/Kaguya Kimimaro/Uchiha Itachi type of guy, but give me Aburame Shino and I'll eat your soul!

I do have the game, and have beaten it, meaning I have the saves, go me.

If you do have the saves, I suggest banning Ichibi Kyuubi Naruto and Cursed Seal 2 Sasuke, Probably Awakened Hinata too, and definately Akamaru and Karasu.

But yeah... That's the one that I'm interested in... gimmeeee Details....

I suggest Eternal Fighters Zero Tournament! haha...

but back to the OP, I personally prefer SC II because of the gamecube controls, SC III's load time is horrific. but graphics are better. but more of the same thing, I haven't played SC III enough to give anymore inputs to it but I heard that they changed the contols for Ivy or just totally nerfed her cause she's wat too powerful in SC II

About GC controls: I'm one of the few people who agrees with you. However, I'm guessing that the odds of a SC2 tournament (which is not currently scheduled for K-Con) ever being held on the Gamecube version are slim. Last year we all had to play using the PS2. The Gamecube edition sold the best of the three, but apparently con-goers didn't account for most of that. I think it was mostly people new to the series who wanted to play as Link (can't blame 'em).

Anyway, being multi-platform was awesome, and I love the GC controls (though I never got to use them in a tourney), but controllers were always a big pain in the rear during SC2.

but more of the same thing, I haven't played SC III enough to give anymore inputs to it but I heard that they changed the contols for Ivy or just totally nerfed her cause she's wat too powerful in SC II

Most of the characters have had their controls changed, some more so than others. I think Ivy is a little weaker, but it's totally impossible to tell by playing the AI; it seems that SC's AI always screws up Ivy (and perhaps Voldo).

When character balances are changed, someone is always bound to be upset... two of my three favorite characters were changed drastically for SC3, and one of them was nerfed so badly that she's not really worth playing anymore. Cry.
