Please let me know what you want to listen to while shaking it at the dance. This way I can forward it to the DJ or buy it ahead of time.
Thanks,
Michael

I plan on shaking a polaroid picture.

For the love of god just PLEASE play some freakin anime or ATLEAST Japanese music.
At SC They INSISTED it wouldnt ALL be 'rave-like' and that the one dance that was 'rave-like' would be improved to be MORE like a rave.
They werent listening. People werent screaming for a 'better rave' they were screaming for NO rave.
All that hard work they put into the dance and it STILL sucked.
*end rant* Ehe aaanyway, yes, just some anime/Japanese music would make me very happy.
Even some Eurobeat would suffice.
-
Capsule. :) She has some pretty good dance/techno music. Sugarless Girl, Spider, and Secret Paradise in particular. ;D

There was an anime music-only dance at Sakura-Con: The masquerade ball on Friday.

Was it ALL anime music? I had my friend check it out too, and she said it was Techno.
So like, was it mixed anime music and Techno? Or was it flat out anime music?

There were a very few game songs and maybe one or two J-pop songs, but other than that, it was all anime. I don't believe there was a single non-Japanese song played. I was behind the stage live helping to pick the tracks.
-
I believe a mixture of all kinds of music would be nice, but since it is an anime convention, Japanese music should dominate over the others.
-
maria, I like it loud- scooter
super sonic dance- move
shissou- ouran high school host club
happatai- yatta (o'course)
gorillaz- D.A.R.E.

Of course, the classics I MUST suggest every year :D
1. Hamster Dance
2. Numa Numa
All that good crazy stuff.
Otherwise, A good mix between rave/tehcno type music and Anime/J-pop music. Lol, all dancy. At the second dance last year there was alot of slow music.
-
I don't really ever go to dances..but I wouldn't mind working the dance again (yojimbo)...and I'd love to hear the Time Warp again. Plus doing the Time Warp is just funny to watch anyway.
2. Numa Numa
I know this is going to sound..jerk-like, but I figure I should correct that...the song title is actually Dragostea din tei by O-Zone. <.<

It's also not Japanese, it's Moldovan.

Hey snakeling,
I heard there's going to be a dance and a Masquerade. Do you know if the DJ is going to use the same playlist the whole time?
Are they on different nights?

I talked to Meg about the masq last weekend. I don't know when the two dances are that's Brenda's call in how she puts togeather the schedule but it definately different music. The masq is generally all anime music with (compairitively) slower themes to go well witht he dress code and ballroom dance feel. The masq is being run by someone that Meg meet at Sak and what I know is second hand and could be wrong. The dance I'm running will be primarily uptempo hard hitting jpop, best of ddr, anime muisc with a solid 4/4 beat, and whatever wired stuff we can throw in to make you move it, move it (like reel 2 reel).
-
Oh I see, cool!
*eyes his schedule*
Um, do you think if the Dance and the Masquerade were back to back you'd need a lot of time to change equipment? I know somebody else is running the Masq but maybe you had been given enough info to guess.
>_>

I love anime songs that have been "technoized" especially old school anime songs! Like last year they played a techno version of the English Sailor Moon theme and it rocked! Do more of that ^^

That sounds sweet! Don't think I heard that last year, hope they bring it back.
Oh, and another thought, some Do As Infinity. Not sure of any particular songs, but that would be a good addition.
-
- Assemblage 23 - "Anthem", "Let Me Be Your Armour", "Opened", "House On Fire"
...
- Bella Morte - "Eyes of A Ghost", "On the Edge", "The Coffin Don't Want Me and She Don't Either"
I worked on lighting for both of these bands with Damned Events (A.K.A. Derek Moore). Bella Morte when they came through with Cruxshadows I was playing house electrician, and I worked on lighting when Assemblage 23 came through a few years back. I already have some Assemblage 23 cds so easy enough to get them played...
-
gackt songs and Albums...
I will make sure we have some Gackt this time around...
From what I've heard I need the Mars album.

Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Op/Ed
XXXHolic opening, 19sai
School Rumble Ops/Eds
Asian Kun Fu Generation
PPGZ 1st op/ed? I liked those songs ^ - ^;;;;;;
I have all but the first one of those (somewhere) on MP3 if that's usable....
-
also, the people suggesting/bringing "Yatta" win my undying love. <3
I tried to find it to sing karaoke when I was in Japan, but kept getting distracted.
Also, there are like 50 versions of Dragnosta din tae--one of which IS in Japanese (and lame)--but I got to sing the right one and it was golden.
Also, other O-zone songs are pretty fun/dancey/hilarious, if they can be found.
Oh yeah, one more suggestion:
Air Gear op: "Chain"
-
"Tokyo I'm On My Way" should totally be put on any dance list for the convention. It's performed by Puffy AmiYumi (which makes it great from the start) but it's written by Dexter Holland, lead singer of The Offspring... So that makes it awesome.
Speaking of The Offspring, I could list off a number of their songs that would be good (and I believe appropriate) for the dance as well... Then again, I'm for like... Any punk to be played there >.> Find the right stuff from the genre and yeah... It's really fun to dance to ^_^
Styles I'd like to see at the dance...
Techno
Punk
Alternative
Trance
Dance
Classic Rock
Heavy Metal
Any of the above combination from both English and Japanese artists... It allows for a wider variety and can introduce people to many different styles and artists that they had little to no exposure to before.
I'd submit like, a listing of bands and songs to play... But it'd be highly biased and I wouldn't it consider worthwhile considering I don't know how well received my musical tastes are... But I had to throw one of those metaphorical two cents in.
Oh and one last thing... Weird Al needs some love too... Be edgy people ^_^ The guy gets like, zilch for radio play as far as I know and he's actually really good and funny. I could list off a number of his songs that'd be good too... Heck, if we need anime reference "Dare to be Stupid" was the theme for the Junkions from "The Transformers: The Movie" besides being VERY good in its own right.
-

We usually do a pretty good job of playing cds and MP3s that people bring up to us. Although personally I prefer playing cds for their sound quaility. And ease of navigation.
-
well, that certainly makes me feel better about picking up 2 Gravitation CDs off ebay this morning! ^ - ~
