But when do sign ups for volunteering begin :P
-
hey, it's never too early.
Probably, by the time the first meeting rolls around, there will be some official list started for people to give their info for becoming staff and volunteers for next year.
Keep an eye open on the forums for lists, and for meeting announcements.

What does being a volunetere involve? I'd like to help but I don't really want to have to do anything at the con. Just pre-con stuff. Also I have school to worry about...
-
Aye, as Vallie said, definitely get to the first meeting, which will be next month sometime. ^-^
*edit*
Neko: being a volunteer entails a LOT of stuff. Even precon there's tons and tons of stuff to do. This past year we had a street team (publicity) handing out fliers, posters, getting stuff for the charity auction, all sorts of stuff.
-
a volunteer does almost anything a staff member does but they have the ability to just stop if they want to. Pretty much volunteers be as important as staff because you guys are last minute help. If you wanna do a lot of help before the con then promotion will be the best way and the best way to do that is to go to meetings as trumby said.
-
I've only been a volunteer so that I can do Pocky club without letting the convention down. Volunteers mostly watch viewing rooms and run errands for staffers who can't leave their posts.
If you can't show up at the very first meeting then at least keep an eye one the forums for whoever the Operations Director is. That's the position that assigns a Volunteer Coordinator (right Waffles?) and in the end that's the person you really want to talk to about helping.

Is the first meeting the one on the 28th of October?
-
I would like to volunteer as well (that is, if I'm going to be around for college next year)! Even my mom seemed enthusiastic about the idea! XD My only question is~ how old do you have to be? I'm turning 18 in two months, so~~~~ LOL. n_____n

You can volunteer no matter the age (though of course if you're under 12 your parent/guardian is also volunteering! :P). Just you have to be 18+ to be on staff.
Jason: Yes, that'll be the first meeting.

Oh! Fantastic! I'm definitely going to look into that, then~

I'm all for volunteering to help. The only thing I see getting in the way is attending the meetings. Because of school and work, I get about two evenings to myself per week and I usually use those for schoolwork, blargh.
Otherwise though, I'd love to help out. :)

Meetings schmeetings. It would be great if you could attend but not even our staff can attend all of them. We won't expect you to attend very many (but the more the better!) Everyone in this thread who has indicated an interest in volunteering for next year, I am adding you to the Volunteers Usergroup which has its own forum and will later, once we have a Volunteer Coordinator, become a bit more formalized. But for now, at the very least, it will be so we can remember who wants to help out. And if you can't make it to a meeting, we'll use the volunteer forum to correspond with you all.
Thank you so much for wanting to make the convention better!

Publicity is the best pre-con activity that doesn't require you to do a ton during the con, just meetings before the con and lots of running around, advertising, going to businesses, etc. It is alot of fun, especially if you can find a partner to do it with!
