Title: AMV CONTEST - NEWS & NOTES
Post by: Geirr on July 11, 2006, 10:13:27 pm
Hey gang - TWO AND A HALF WEEKS TO GO!

I've had some submissions coming in already ( and I've sent out confimation e-mails and a few & calls too.)

Just a reminder to submit in AVI or MPG format. It can be burned onto a CD or a DVD, (or you could even send a thumbdrive or a ZIP disk if you don't need it back.) A typical AMV file will be about 20MB - 80MB in size so you should be able to burn it onto a CD (11 cents, 690MB) - or even several entries in a couple of different codecs. I don't think you absolutely need a DVD (4.7GB) unless you've made something completely insane like 147456x98304 pixel resolution at 60 frames/sec in 65.5 million colors and 64-bit color depth ... )

Please do -NOT- create an SVCD or a DVD-player type disk. VOB, IFO, and directories like 'VIDEO_TS' will -not- work with the system.

Anyway, shortly after going through the DUMP-TRUCK load of LAST MINUTE submissions, I'll post a list of what series people have used in total.

OK - on ballots: Two years ago, I printed about 120 and there were bunches on the floor unused. Last year I printed 300 and a little over half got filled in, and there were lots of complaints from people who couldn't find a ballot to use. (This was puzzling and I really felt bad that the logistics didn't work out.)

So: my guess this year: I'm going to print out 500 ballots, and concentrate them in kind of a Poisson or Weibull distribution in the room, front to back:  about 2/3 full for the first one or two rows, then full coverage for about the next 15  - rows or so, then tapering down to 2/3, 1/2, and 1/3 in the last rows. If you REALLY want to vote, get there a little early so you can find a ballot. (whereever you end up sitting.) I think there's a fair margin of people (probably a minority, though) who just want to show up and enjoy the show.

Comments on this?

Anyways, keep 'em coming, & it's GREAT that you're all out there making these COOL works of art!

I know the deadline is July 28th, but my question is whether or not this is a postmark date or if you have to have the media "in hand" as it were? This is my first attempt at an AMV, so it's kinda slow going as I figure everything out, so I think I'm going to need every minute I can get. Thanks!

I just assumed it was when they had to have it in their hand. If that's the case, it'd best be sent today.
Title: Deadline Date is TOMORROW, 5PM

I'll be checking the address tonight (Thurs,) again Friday night (after end of business day,) and I hope I can make it in again Saturday afternoon JUST in case I missed something.

I've been sending out confirm emails and/or phone calls pretty much as soon as I get home each night.

I'm expecting to hand everything over to the judges' panel Saturday evening. If a few entries come in late, I'll contact the editors privately and offer to hold them over till next year, possibly run them in the show, or both.

Through it all I am working furiously on the contest OP - but hey, last night I got Animation Master to WORK - Yay!!!! I hope it'll work out and I hope that you all like it.

Other than that so far, all I will say is that there are a couple of really DAZZLING Action/Effect works in the pipe!

- GLL

PS: Thank you everybody! I can't post much from work, but I also want to thank Pie_Row here for all his support to the rest of the gang.

PPS: After this weekend I will post a two lists: [a)]the names of all the seris represented (not counting if an entrant didn't tell me -and- no one can recognize it...) and the number of entries which will run in each category.

Need anything else?

PPPS: Next year I -do- like the idea of submitting by d/l. Let's work on that...
