Ok... someone had to start it. I know its really close to Sakura-con and it might not be enough time to get a new costume ready, but does anyone know who they'll be appearing as? If I can get the costume done in time, I'll be showing up as Tidus of FFX fame. This will be my first time Cosplaying... but I am going to do it.

I'm going as Genjo Sanzo from Saiyuki, Izumi from Digimon Frontier, and... mabey Generator Gawl (either his white school outfit or his blue/red one) and mabey Tsukasa Amou (his full outfit - the white non-school one) from Juvinile Orion. They are relitivility easy costumes, so it will leave me with more time to work on Kazemon for next year's Sakura con.

I want to help be the one of the first people to reply. Tehehehe, I got my costumes all planned out since I'm going to Anime Evolution and Kumori Con is a couple weeks after it so yeah ^^;;. If I finish these and have money, I'll add more. Anyhow on to my list.

I didn't wear my Songstress Yuna at Sakura, so that's one I'll be wearing as long as it fits. I also plan on finishing my Pretty Cure costumes by then.
I might have to bring out Strongbad and Homestar again. They got too good of a reaction!

I'd like to go as Colnel Mustang from Full Metal Alchemist, and Bocca from Melody of Oblivion, but I don't know when I'd have the time to make costumes >.<

Something tells me that there is a good chance the Strongbad might end up at homestarrunner.com. So many people took pictures of themselves with me, I know they'll be submitting them to the site. I'd be surprised if something doesn't show up under fanstuff.

How long were you dressed up as Strongbad or Homestar? I was there nearly all hours that any event was going on... although most of it was spent in a line...

I was Strongbad on Friday from Noon till about 6pm. Then I was Homestar on Saturday only from about 3-6pm. I'm on Fansview in both outfits.

I'm going to try to fix my Chii costume (I had to cut myself out of it Saturday afternoon as I had een sewn into it Saturday morning ^.^; ), and I'm going to put together a Temari costume as well.
And my classic 'Random Bishie #9' cosplay as well. That one was humerous. ^.^

My camera wasn't working properly, so I don't have a pic on me, but there were TONS of people who took pics of me. I was the Chii working Security with the Gaara plushie. ^.^

I so want an Azumanga daddy hat, but I do own a big honkin' Di Gi Charat Dejiko hat. I wear it all the time, so someone might have seen me in it already, as I wear it downtown and to Uwajimaya and stuff. Even people who have no idea what anime is (probably) like it. :3

A friend of mine is helping me with at least one of my cosplays, which will be Naraku from Inu-Yasha. I'll be wearing his Baboon skin, and then my friend and I are hoping to go as Ropponmatsu 1 and Ropponmatsu 2 from Excel Saga.

I'm going to try to go as either Sizer from Violinist of Hameln or Skuld from Ah! My Goddess. Does any one have any tips for making these costumes? This'll only be my second con and my second time cosplaying and I'm still learning to use a sewing machine. Tips would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have tips for those exact costumes, but it always helps me to see how other people have done them. I'd start by taking a look at cosplay.com and American Cosplay Paradise to see if you can get some examples.
If you're still learning to use your sewing machine, they might be a bit ambitious for you, but it depends on how much you want to do it.

Wow.. I just checked out the prices for the kimono I'm getting at it's expensive. Why does it have to be soooo pricy?
And does anyone know what the top part of a kimono is called? I know the bottom part is a "Hakama" but I don't know the top. FYI I'm going at Geese Howard from the Fatal Fury series. *^_^*

A "gi"? I know the jackets that many Japanese wear are called "happi"...

I went as Yuna to the Sakura con. I did the Karaoke... there was alot of Yuna's there!! enough to make you puke.. but not alot of Gunner Yuna so i was ok with that i guess... uh.... Attention to the guy/ girl going as Tidus... I must see you.. i must... 1.Because i went as Tidus to the last con and no one cared about me :cry: and 2. becuse well, im gunna be Yuna and i just have to see you!!
ok, uhm.. anyways... Im going to Kumori con as X-2 gunner Yuna again, and Sora from Kingdom Hearts, along with a Riku and Kairi, and possible a goofy/Cid.. not sure on that one yet...

A Gi is the top half of a Martial Arts uniform. Since I'm not sure if that was a question about definition or a question about whether that was what he was talking about. Gi is pretty non-specific though... it can refer to the japanese style of an overlapping front (Al la Kuno), or it can refer to the chinese style for TaiChi or KungFu (Al la Ranma) that meets in the front and is secured with frogs.
Hakama are generally, to my knowledge, specifc to martial arts uniforms as well, or rather, traditional samurai "garb". They were basically a long pleated pair of pants that's purpose was to hide the foot movements of samurai so that their next move would not be known. They have, in modern times, been adopted as common wear in Japanese Martial arts styles such as Aikido, Kendo, etc. Ironically, those two styles wear them for the same reason... their tie to the Samurai, and usefulness when performing complex foot work and obscuring it at the same time.
Kimono are generally one piece. The shirt is generally worn under the Kimono, and really isn't what one would think of as a Gi. Gi are for the most part made of much "stiffer" stuff than what one would wear under a Kimono. There are exceptions (Chinese "gi" are often Silk or Satin), and non-throwing styles generally will wear lighter cotton Gi... but anything like Aikido or Judo usually wear a double knit, stiff and sturdy Gi that is ment for your partner to grab hold of and use for throwing, or to hold up to constant falling.
Sorry for the long post... I get a little carried away when discussing clothing and martial arts when it relates to japan and china. please, if any of this is wrong, don't hesitate to correct me.

Depending on what color my hair is at the time, I might go as Kid (Chrono Cross) or Sango (Inu Yasha).
My greatest challenge will be to finish another costume by then with both my sewing machines broken. :?

I want to try and go as a different character everyday. So if my friend doesn't want to do the Ropponmatsu cosplay with me, I might go as someone from Gundam Seed, Milly maybe because my hair is a little like her's, and someone else. I keep getting told I should wear another one of Naraku's outfits under the cape.

Hm. Well- A friend of mine (She was the Edea at Sakura Con) wants to put together a Pet Shop of Horrors group, and I've been recruited to be Alice.. soo.. I'll probably be wearing that sometime..
And I can always bring along Aeris, Selphie, and KH Selphie. ^^ Who knows.. I never know until the week or so before the con. XD

:? I was actually kind of annoyed by the amount of Final Fantasy Cosplayers at Sakuracon. Those and Naruto... too much Naruto...

eh, it happens. last year there were a lot of FF cosplayers, and every year seems to have it's Naruto. Last year it was Chobits and a lot more from Trigun, Sailor Moon, etc. Naruto, as BakaZoku so wonderfully put it, is the cosplayers dream... lots and lots oppurtunity for cosplay.

There are always scads of Final Fantasy characters. I'm not sure that will ever die, or at least not in the foreseeable near future anyway.
And yeah, every year has its fad cosplay. Last year there were Chiis and Yunas and various FFX-2 costumes crawling out everyone's ears, and the year before we had an infestation of Ranmas for some reason, as well as about eighteen Vashes and a lot of Digi Charat. This year it was Naruto, which is at least a darn good anime with a wide range of characters, so that there was at least some quality and variation.
If it bugs you, cosplay as someone totally weird and different! ^_^ Or do a variation on a popular costume. I want to cosplay Haruko Haruhara someday, but her red shirt is overdone and the nurse is scary, so I'll probably end up wearing the baseball uniform, which I've only seen done once.

I haven't fully decided but I do think that I might just make it easy on myself and go as Hiei from YYH though my friend did mention trying to convince me to go as Alielle from El Hazard. *smirks* Hiei will probably win out though.

My consolation is that I will be cosplaying as something radically different. I don't know, must be me. I never saw what the big deal was about Final Fantasy. Must be because I don't have a Playstation.

I'm still trying to figure out who I should go as. I said I would go as Seta but that's more of a backup plan. Any suggestions for a tall male with semi-short brown-hair?

Joe Higashi from Fatal Fury/SNK is a possibility. If you can get the equipment and grow an Irish-cut beard (there's probably a real name for it), you can be the lead hunter from Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust. Borgoff Markus.

You could always try miroku from inu yasha! or, even better, don a wig, make an inu yasha costume, and be inu yasha! (never enough of those!) or.... FF!! FF characters are always neat to be, espically Aauron from FFX (hard costumes, be he has brown hair! and is tall! and has a sleeve problem....)

There is always room for creativity within FF costumes. Like one could always make the Amano versions of some outfits. Plus there are a lot of different dress spheres in ffx-2 that people don't do. My friend and I were the only festival goer Yuna and Rikku at Sakura-con... Though the downside of that was when I went to stand with the FF people for a group photo I got a lot of *looks* because nobody knew what I was. *sigh* They seemed to be wondering why some girl in a horrible yukata was trying to join them. lol. At least they recognized Rikku though. Anyway...
I'm hoping to go to Kumori Con this year, So here's the planned costumes!
Tidus (Finishing off my bf's. I still have to make the shoulder pad, ect. Anyone who saw him at Sakura con knows how much work I have to do. ^_~)
Xelloss (Also another one of my bf's. I'm having to re-make his cape)
He's thinking of some other costumes, Like a nude-suit Dark Shnieder with fake muscles, but we'll see. (decency wise and time-wise)
As for me,
Peorth (Ah My Goddess) One of her casual outfits from the manga
Dizzy (GGX) Her black dress, possibly with the wings even though she doesn't really have them with the dress. Also possibly her swimsuit for the fun of it (It's basically a school girl outfit)

I cosplayed as Faye Valentine once... not at Sakura Con though. I didn't get the chance to cosplay at Sakura Con unfortunatly -.-; What I cosplay to Kumori (which I will DO!) depends whether my friends are coming or not.

Hopefully this cosplay attempt truns out better than the one at Sakura con. I was one of the f Sakura's from Sakura Wars.

Actually, that sounds like a good idea. Thanks for the suggestion. I can just imagine my friends' reactions if they knew I was going to cosplay as him since our personalities (mine and Miroku's) are no where near the same. ^_^ It'll take some time to grow the mini-ponytail.
And I didn't notice that many Sakura at the last Con. Then again, I hung out with one of them so maybe that's why. She was the one in the kimono and had the wand.

Umm, I'm not sure about you guys but I'm rather fond of my original heart, stomach, spine, skin, etc. so I probably will not grope people. I was able to find an old Animerica magazine of mine (let's here it for pack-rats) so I now have an example to go by. I'll try to work on it this summer.

I'll be making my appearance as Taichi Yagami from Digimon Adventure. ^^; Such an underappreciated anime...
And, as this is my first con, it seems like a rather simple outfit, so I could pull it off rather well. I'll have to ask my friend's kid brother if I can borrow his Digivice... 8O

Let it be noted here that Security, or atleast me, will be paying special attention to all Miroku cosplayers. They have a tendency to overstep their 'in character' bounds.
Having fun with friends is fine, but randomly groping girls/guys you don't know is frowned upon.

The hard part about cosplaying as someone like Keitaro is that it's hard to tell if they're cosplaying or just wearing regular clothes. I've thought about that idea myself. Before I went to the KumoriCon last year (when I was dressed as Seta) I had to pick up a camera at a grocery store (while in my costume) and didn't get any looks like "why is that guy dressed like that?" I figure I could wear the costume around town for no reason if I wanted to.

you could go as keitaro in naru's leaf bikini.. lmfao jk lol but this is why that would be simple to cosplay, like if i went as mamimi i just have to get a blue sweater and find the skirt, then tweak alittl, i have that cat hat and the hair down, but i have really thick black square framed glasses so i dunno what im gonna do about that. Heh Heh, I wear costumes all the time xD at the park... at school. I dressed up as Faye Valentine for out school "Spirit Day" and my friend did Spike. I got called to the principal's office (get's called alot for "outfits") but I had a trenchcoat, so as long as I kept that on it was ok! Woo hoo!

I'm planning on going this year for my first cosplay... not sure what to go as... I though Dark Dragoon Rose from Legend of Dragoon but I thought it might be too obscure and unpopular. My other choice was Black Rose from .hack. Or maybe Aeris from FF7. I don't want to do something that's overdone. Any other ideas?

I'm going to be getting an Edgar Figaro costume together and my friend Hollie is going to be Inuyasha. We were thinking that we could make Mirouku and Tsongo (sp?) costumes for me and my girlfriend. We're trying to convince our really big friend Tony to dress as shippo for irony's sake.
My girlfriend wants to be in the FF6 cosplay as either a moogle or an imp. I have a few other costume ideas, but I need people to help make them a reality. I suck at sewing.

usually i'm integra hellsing from the hellsing series.
i've also been the one with glasses from haibane renmei and seraphim from mega tokyo. (though my white feather wings were a bit worn out by the end of last con.)
there are 3 costumes i have in mind, but i have no one presently to help me figure out how to get them made. 2 are from card captor sakura (series) and 1 is from utena (series).
of everything i read above, i'm most excited that someone is going as anthy. :) and that someone else enjoyed the movie version :)

Anybody know how to make a long-lasting, fake cigarette? I'd like to use one as a prop and I don't want to use a real since I don't smoke (or worry about losing it and some kid finding it accidently). So far my best idea is using a lollipop stick without the lollipop.

Your welcome ddrose. ^_^ You can also search for the manga if that helps. Unless you know a specific place to look for comics, I would suggest one of the larger Bookstores like Waldens or Borders and such.

Well, I certainly don't have the time nor money to whip up another new costume by September... so I'll probably just be re-wearing my Zeiram ("Iria/Zeiram"), Shino ("Naruto"), and maybe my Kazuhiko ("Clover") costumes.... I think I'm going to enjoy attending a con without the plane ride to it first. *chuckles* So much easier costume transportation....

I'm probably going to reuse my demon exterminator Sango costume from Inu Yasha that I wore at Sakura Con this year. I spent far too much time and money on it to only use it once :roll: Plus a lot of people seemed to like it! I need to redo my boomerang tho, it kinda got a bit messed up from weaving through crowds in the dealer room. If I have time before Kumoricon to make another costume, I'll possibly be going as Sheda (the scientist cat demon girl) from Chrno Crusade as well. Shouldn't be that hard to make ^_^ !

I'm planning on going as Ed from FMA. I've been looking at design sketches for him and it doesn't seem too bad. I already have the cloth and I'm going to start sewing pretty soon. I'm looking forward to this project of mine.

You would EASILY fit into their standard size school uniform. I had to switch to a "French Toast" uniform skiry with my top because I'm tall, but I'd even be willing to GIVE you the short navy pleated skirt that came with my fuku so it goes to someone who really wants it and it would fit.
I have the "Spring Uniform" and the quaility is amazing! I wanted it to look like the Sailor Moon High School uniform so I took a fabric marker and very carfully changed the midi-braid to red and it looks perfect. My "fill bust measurement" is slightly larger than what they say is the largest for the costume (about 36.5-37) but it still fits. They also have a few things in larger sizes.
They ship FAST and are trustworthy. (they sell on eBay too and have high feedback). Also, maybe you can find someone to buy with you at the same time and ask about splitting the shipping. Let me know, there are a few things I want to pick up as well!

The rule of thump for women (full grown) is 100 pounds for 5'0 and then 5 points an inch. But that is the absolute MIDDLE of the range. Plenty are PERFECT on either side of average.
2 years ago at Sakura I was my smallest, 5'7 and 108 pounds. Right now I'm still the same height at about 130. I'd like to either weigh the same size and firm up or get back down to about 120-125 so my favorite jeans fit again, but if I never do, I'm fine just the way I am.
108 was far too small but I do miss it sometimes, it was fun to buy clothes and have all the sales people say, "You're such a tiny thing!" but Jr clothes didn't fit me (the waists were always too big and the hips too small), so I was stuck looking for size 2 and 4 and they were too hard to find! It's much easier to shop being an 8 (6 or 10 sometimes).
Oh, and to share my big secret...I used to wear a size 28 and weigh 300 pounds (I had my stomach stapled in 1998, so I know what it's like to be all sizes!)

Hey everybody, I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a costume that kinda matches with how I look already. I'm a guy with really long blonde hair and I've thought about cutting it off but I can't decide.
I was thinking I'd make a costume for a guy with long hair for one day then cut my hair for a short haired caracter the next day but I need some help with suggestions... if anyone remembers I went as Vash/Erics last year... because he had the long hair while he was "Erics".

I was heading on the way home a la MAX train and was reading my Resident Evil book (the first one, depicting the events in RE1) and looked in the window, saw my reflection, and saw that my hair was slightly pulled back for some reason. Instantly, I thought of Wesker.

Hi, I am new (this is my first post) and have never been to an anime convintion, never cosplayed, and am slightly lost. But, I am planning on going as Belldandy from Oh My Goddess in her blue goddess dress, Dark Chii from Chobits, and one of the three days my younger sister (who is also going as Anna from Shaman King and Peach from Mario/Nintendo) and I are both going as just Neko School Girls. Also my younger bother is accompaning us and so far has only decided to go as Maximillion Pegasus from Yu-Gi-Oh.
Also I was wondering if anybody would be kind enough to write to me and answer questions I have about Kumoricon and convintions in general, Llike: The cosplay contest is where people get up on stage and do skits, right? So does the skit have to have any thing to do with your charactor, or can it be just random weird-ness? Also do they provide food at conventions, like booths where you can buy stuff, if not does the hotel have anything like that or do we pretty much have to bring lunch or go down town in Portland to eat? Finally, how long does Kumoricon last each day? All day long, or only part of the day? Does any one know the hours? Thank you very much to any one who can answer my questions and sorry, this post is a little off subject......

it shouldnt really MATTER who you cosplay as as long as its fun, kinda lame listening to people brag about how they hate seeing all the same characters and would never cosplay as them :B but thats what makes things funnier,
i mean really, next to the 20 sailor moons, you have the 6 year old cousins/sisters they dragged along as chibi moon, then you have the fat bald middle aged man dressed as sailormoon with his dog starfire dressed up like luna, yeah, doesnt get funnier than that. then you have the 300 pound people dressed up like the sailor stars. and then, theres naruto, tons and tons of people who go as naruto, and shaman king, a bunch of yohs. really all in all, people can think theyll be the ONE person there, but it more than likely wont happen lmao

The costumes I choose are going to depend directly on the reactions I get on my new stuff at AE (and how fun each getup proves to be, and whether they let me in the door there in my Surprise Costume). I will say that there's likely to be some Naruto and Final Fantasy in there somewhere, and possibly my first appearance in a schoolgirl fuku. (Since my Kagome costume way-back-when was of sub-par quality and didn't really count.)
See, since AE and Kumori are only two weeks or so apart, I'm making one big batch of three new costumes and trying them out at AE, along with my improved Celes ballgown to round the number out to four outfits. The ones that are most successful/popular/fun will make the grade and go on to Kumori, along with an old favorite or two of mine. ^_^
...how clever I am! Oh, the cleverness of me!

Well, provided that I get the time off, I should have my Kasumi costume from DoA3 done by that time - and I'll likely wear it for a few days at Kumori as well.
Just a note of explanation, Kasumi was chosen because it's a costume that I'm actually making for PAX. Otherwise, I shall likely simply go in one of my yukata and wander around in that and be comfortable! :D

Hey.. new here. Anyway, I'm thinking I'll go as Wolfwood, complete with a cross punisher... just not sure how I'm going to do the cross punisher yet, or where I'm going to find a jacket of the appropriate cut. Meh... Anyway, I'm foregoing haircuts 'til after the convention but I'm not sure my hair will be quite long enough. Should hopefully be at least close enough. Seems like this'll be an easy first cosplay, assuming I can find the few bits I need. Speaking of which, does anyone have any ideas for making silver cross cufflinks? It seems to be next to impossible to find any silver crosses of that size in my price range. Tried looking at beads and charms and such, but I haven't had any luck thus far. Sigh...
Well at least the pants will be easy, I hope.

for any large size prop weapon you should try rigid insulation foam. most hardware stores should have it. It's easy to cut and really light. Find a powersander somwhere and you'll be much happier.

Watch out Sangi LOL....anyway I do find it ironic that i'm going as a chef though....if you know me you understand! Two Zell costumes eh'? Well thats certainly news to me. how the heck are you gonna walk around as dumpster chii? Are you just gonna have someone lay you down somewhere and let people walk past you?
I figured I'd modify the bandage wrapping somewhat so I could still be mobile, but that's not a bad idea. I could bring cardboard boxes and lay them on the floor next to me and everything!

And don't forget a "red herring" CD in a case that gets ignored and left behind, but doesn't seem to matter at all to the plot...
(How would a perscon read a CD or DVD anyway? The most innocent idea I can think of is the person would have to have a player of some sort and then it could be plugged in to the cables in the ear things... but you'd think it would be built in somehow...)

I was heading on the way home a la MAX train and was reading my Resident Evil book (the first one, depicting the events in RE1) and looked in the window, saw my reflection, and saw that my hair was slightly pulled back for some reason. Instantly, I thought of Wesker.
Just need to find a good STARS uniform. 8)
Heh, if you go as Wesker, I'll bring my Jill costume too :) (I see so few RE cosplayers up here I have to join in whenever possible )

I sorta feel bad that I won't have Celes done for this con, since right after the con last year a bunch of people were planning a Final Fantasy VI group, but I just don't have the money for the fabric right now.
However, I'll have Rydia from Final Fantasy IV, along with Tetra and Princess Zelda from The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker. ^_^ I'm totally looking forward to wearing my new Zelda costume.

I have 2 Jrock costumes planned - Macabre-era Kyo (Dir en Grey) and Illuminati Gackt. I'm also going as Dumpster!Chii (remember when Hideki first finds her in the trash, wrapped in bandages?), and I'll bust out my kimono at some point too.
so far, other than alucard, all 3 of your costumes are what i am most looking forward to seeing. i'll have an eye out :)
and in addition to what i earlier posted, i will probably crossplay tuxedo masks :)

My Reno costume was a flop at Kumoricon, so I'll be going as Devil May Cry 3's Dante, and my secondary costume will be one of the Ice Climbers, lol!

This is my second con (first was SakuraCon05), so I'll be making a second appearance as Botan from YYH and Duo Maxwell from Gundam Wing, though I'm utterly remaking his costume. I'm also going as:
Sloth - FMA
Jin - Samurai Champloo
Sanzo - Saiyuki
Unknown - Naruto (still haven't decided)
Finding costumes is really hard for me because most characters with my hair length have zillions of different hair colors.
