Title: A different Age Question
Post by: Daxe on April 15, 2006, 12:47:25 pm
Sorry about not puting this in the other thread but I wasnt sure since this is a diff kind of age question.

Do ppl under the age of 18 have to have a signed "guardian" at the con like at Sakuracon?

This has been covred before

I’m not an expert or on staff but I do believe that any one under 18 has to have a signed guardian over 18 (it might be 21?)  and any one under 13 has to have the real legal guardian present.  I always take this opportunity to remind the kids that need a guardian to bring their single childless aunts between the ages of 30 and 40 who are closet nerds.

Does anyone on staff know the answer to this question? It is pertinant to my situation. My eighteenth birthday is the week after Kumoricon, so I will be required to have a signed legal gaurdian?

Does this mean that me and the guy I'm going with sign a peice of paper saying he'll be my gaurdian? Or that I need to sign a peice of paper with my parents? Or that my closet geeky single aunts need to sign papers for me?

Which reminds me...Vondan, why are you so emphatic that these women be single? Seems a little supicious to me.

What me suspicious?  Not at all!  I just think the con needs a larger representation of Single nerdy girls over 30.  I assure you my intentions are completely honorable and just want to encourage the ladies to never give up on imagination.

This has been covered before, but I forget where so I guess I shouldn't be suprised that it's getting asked again.

We need a FAQ.

EDIT: got foncused by "under 13" and "13 and under", corrected the rules.

according to the yojimbo guidelines that jess shelton wrote for Kcon 2004 (keep in mind we used these gudelines last year), it actually says if you're under 14 you have to be with parent/guardian at all times, does this sound about right to anyone else?  not trying to step on anyone's toes, just trying to get a leg up on how to interpret things this year and if we're planning on altering rules at all

Alrighty. I got confused by the very thing I meant to clear up, that is mixing up "under 13" and "13 and under". Hawkeye is correct. One of our Altonimbus people confirmed for me that the rule is, in fact, 13 and under. Which is equivalent to "under 14". So I've edited my post above to reflect that. I'm sorry to disappoint you, Wolf. Looks like you will have to wait another year :(

Lets see...I'm 13.

So I have to have my parent? .......or legal guardian? right? o_o

Would a 19 year old cousin count as a legal guardian? Cause I don't want to have my mom around me since she gets tired of walking easily and thinks everybody at an anime con that is 20 and older is a pedophile. (don't ask. -.-; she thinks anime is for little kids and stuff and a 19yr old cousin is too "old" for anime)

I think if you're under 13 you have to have your parent. 13-17 you have to have your con guardian (not necessarily with you [unless it's after curfew], just at the con the whole time), who is designated by the consent form by your parent.

The official age policy, which differs from what Guspasho posted, is in the policies found on the registration page on the main.

The biggest difference is that 13*-19 years olds MUST have a con guardian on site (not necessarily by there side.) This can be an older cousin, yes.

*Yes, last year it said 14. This year, policy says 13.

If you are under 18, I'd suggest you study this part of the policies in particular.
