are we going to do a anime dating game like at sakura con if you were at sakura con tell me what that dating thing was.
-
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that there will be an Anime Dating game, it's always popular and funny... Eve more so when Kiba acts like the Govenor of California. XD
Anime dating game is when they have several contestants (in costume) and they act in character, to the questions asked by the girl/boy/tentacle monster who is the Bachelor/Bachelorett. In the end, after countless double meanings and laughing fits, a winner is chosen, although they do not really date.
(or do they? :o)
-
lol so can any one join?
-
Yeah anyone can join but it's being chosen that's the tricky part. The "selection process" is just having everyone who wants to play first stand up and answer a question with two choices.
Example:
"Do you prefer strawberry or chocolate pocky? Raise your hand for strawberry."
Every one who wishes to raise their hand does so. The person in charge will then say "Everyone who said ____, sit down. The rest of you, next question." This goes on until 3 people are left. Those 3 are the bachelors/bacheloretts.
It's harding than it sounds to get chosen. I've gone to it twice and only once (out of 6 or so tries) have I come close to being chosen.
-
ok but how do you when
-
Do any of the chaperone aunts get in on this game
-
so my aunt is a drugatic and a horrible mother so you probably dont want to date her and she has a husband a @*$% of one so how do you win?
-

Oh no that wont do at all. The chaperone aunts are supposed to be none drug dependant, childless and single
-
well all my aunts are taken but the rest of them are nice have no kids well someof them dont well dont worry you will find a single aunt sooner or later
-

Ok keep on the look out in the book stores and libraies in your town cause all the ladies in my town who are after me are too something and dont have enough imagination
-
ok i will
-
ok but how do you when
You mean after you're chosen and sitting up there being asked questions? There's a bachelor/bachelorett (who is usually pulled from the audience) asking the other 3 people the questions. He/She gets to pick the winner. And no, you don't have to take them on a date. The game is just for laughs.
And just to clarify a little, the bachelor/bachelorett (A) is picked first, taken out of the room, then the "Carefully Selected" 3 people (B) are chosen. That way the bachelor/bachelorett (A) has no clue who his/her 3 choices (B) are while the 3 guys/girls (B) know who the bachelor/bachelorett (A) is.
...
...
OKay, maybe that didn't clarify things.

I love the fact that there is a method and process to this madness. I heartily endorse cosplaying dating games in which the rules are made up and the points don't count.
But must the people be in costume to compete as contestants? I firmly believe that a balding guy in his forties who has his children in the crowd should be randomly selected for every round. Just to spice things up. You know what kind of responses you're going to get from a Miroku or a Vash or a Spike Speigel, but it's the suburban dad who's out to embarrass his kids that you've got to watch out for. Those balding dads are loaded guns man, lo---aded guns.

Oh no no no it should be a not yet balding not yet 40 year old vender with no kids who is matched against 3 of the single childless aunts brought along as gaurdians

An idea worth noting. But perhaps just a little balding?

How about some thinning and receding I can do that
-
Ackowledgement and acceptance of terms.
-
soo.. do the winners get some fabulous prize, like a fake vacation together or something? =D

We had a Master Roshi (Dragonball) ask the questions once. Does that count?

Winners will receive an all expenses paid trip to the bathroom. ^_^

Ooo.. Risque ^~ That must be some popular bathroom!

Is this a subtle innuendo?

Ewww I don’t want to take the winning guardian chaperone aunt into the bathroom, I’m not George Michael. Cant we win a free dinner at taco bell ware we can spend hours discussing D&D and Star Trek as I stare into her glasses the window to my soul
-
Ok this is a little off subject, but is anyone else bothers by the title of this topic? It really bothers me for some reason, it's just like.. not a good title.. how vague.. just "are we.." hmm..
-
I think the mascots should be tenticles. O_O That'd be funny as hell.
-
Please, please include descriptive subject headers. No more of this "are we" crap that leads me to wonder what this thread is about every single time I see someone respond to it.
-
as far as I know Sven aka the dude that ran the dating game last year will be returning to do it for Kumoricon '06. Now I have not gotten confirmation paper work from him, so no promises, but letting you all know that we will likely have it.
Nyco
-
@Nyco27
I remember talking to him last year after the game and I think he did say he was doing it again. Okay, I'm not sure if he said that exactly but I do remember him saying if he did it next year the rounds wouldn't be a long as they were last year ('05).
I remember that because at the con I went up to him, said it was a wonderful game and everyone did a great job, and told him that my only compliant about it were the number of rounds. We only had 4.

And is there any sort of screening process for the contestants, some of these chaperone aunts might be desperate for a date and falsify their entry form.

And is there any sort of screening process for the contestants, some of these chaperone aunts might be desperate for a date and falsify their entry form.
The screening process goes something like this:
- (let's say) 20 people stand up
"Do you like strawberry or chocolate pocky? Strawberry, raise your hands."
- 13 raise their hands
"Those who didn't raise your hands, sit down. Next question: Who's sexier, Princess Zelda or Princess Peach? Who votes for Peach?"
- 5 people raise their hands
"Ugh, get outta here. Next question: Who would win in a fight, Ryo-Ohki from Tenchi Muyo or Kero from CCS? Those for Ryo-Ohki?"
- 3 raise their hands
"You got that right. The rest of you, sit down. You 3, come on up."
And the lovely contestant hoping to pick his/her dream date is usually picked by whether or not they're willing to do it.
"Show of hands, who wants to do this."
- 14 people raise their hands
"You, you're the next victim."
-
Holy mother of Bob this sounds like fun! I hope it will be an activity this year, I would love to participate! :D
-
that is a great screening process
-
that is a great screening process
And somehow I can actually picture that happening.
And the questions... Ooooo you don't even want to get me started on questions from the past. (insert evil laughter here)

They had questions like that but if they had those exact questions I can't remember. What I meant was that I can picture that exact situation, word for word, happening.
He may have shortened it when there were only a few more people like 5 or so just to speed things up.
-
it was more to the point every one wanted to be one of the 3 girls that the bacholor was going to choose from, rather then hurt peoples feeling just you you and i mean c'mon who can compeat with a man whore?
-
Ah! I hope that they have it this year, it sounds like it would be alot of fun just even to watch! xD
-
Pretty much we will probally be having another dating game because its something fun to watch/be in.
-
yes! im gonna be sora and if i get in its gonna be awsome
-
This event sounds amusing. i'll have to catch it if I end up going...
-
yes! im gonna be sora and if i get in its gonna be awsome
didn't yopur mom say she couldn't make a Sora costume?
-
This is one event I will NOT miss if I go, not for a lifetime supply of Pocky!! (Okay, maybe I would take the Pocky.... But that's not the point!!)
-
Slightly Anime is planning on doing the Anime Dating Game again this year, along with possibly another panel, but you guys don't get to know what yet.
Man, I'm like their unoffical spokewoman or something. I guess that's what you get for dating a member and being the only person who browses the boards, eh?
I'll let them know they oughta get in touch with the head honchos.

Awesome, thanks Fizz! Have them get in touch with Brenda, the Programming Director, at programming@kumoricon.org
-
didn't yopur mom say she couldn't make a Sora costume?
she really didnt say shes still deciding
-
I hope we have it this year. I was terribly sad that it didn't take place last year. I think that's my favorite thing at the con's; the dating game. Hopefully this year I'll be able to be a contestant. Heh, I swear I'm not worthy but it'd be tons of fun to try.
-
Um, it did take place last year, as well as the year before. I think maybe you just missed it.
-
And do make sure there are a few rounds ware three of the single chaperone aunts who have not had a date in 10 years are tricked into being in the game, I think I can find a guy there age who would be the bacherlor.
-
Edit: Voluntarily removed as it discussed an event that needs to be worked out before being made public.

Hey good idea why didn't I admit to thinking of that!
But why stop at one aunt. Every body should bring an aunt. But dont tell the aunts it is a singles night cause they will be to shy and nerdy to go since they mainly hide at home and read books on saterday date night.
-
YO
we got ya back Vondan
-
I appologize to those of you who I edited posts regarding Raidien's quote, but I would really rather keep this under wraps for a while since the panel has not been approved yet.
Thank you,
Brenda
