Title: Dolly Making! ^__^
Post by: Catgirl Rin Rin on February 16, 2006, 03:09:41 pm
Hey hey everyone! ^^ This'll be my first convention, and while I'm running around getting pictures and having fun, I'd like to run a table in the Artist Alley!

I'm a doll-maker, using main felt pieces to create a doll from video games or anime. I've never done an actual character doll though, only a Legolas for my sister once XD She likes Orlando Bloom...

Anyways, I've gotten lots of experience of making dolls - I make them from my buddies at school, when it's their birthday or for Christmas if they're lucky. It takes me about 3-5 hours to make a doll, with extra things and with reasonable quality. Now I'd like to extend my dolls to public people, and I've read up on the topic of selling fan creation things in these other threads.

I'm going to start making dolls next week, putting them in little baggies and storing them away. I don't know which dolls to make though - I've got a sketchy idea on what Anime characters to do, but it'd be really helpful if I really asked people what they'd like to see available ^^

 Any replies are appreciated!

I make 1/6 miniatures based on the 12 inch Gi Joe or 11.5 inch Barbie’s.   I made a Gladiator with box art and he had leather Armour and a tiny metal sword and shield (a tea pot lid).  I made a Biker to go on a 1.6 scale model motorcycle and I made him a tiny black leather jacket from black deerskin and even added a tiny zipper.   They give me strange looks when I’m in a thrift store and I go thorough the whole bin of used Barbie’s looking for the ONE that does not have crap in the hair and missing part.  My next project will be Pirate princess Barbie

Hi all! I'm Ellen, aka Rem, and I run the Fan Creation Station for Kumoricon, and its sister, the Creation Station at Sakuracon.

I would love to cordially invite you both to consider hosting workshops to help others learn your crafts, and I would love to have you run them at our Fan Creation Station!

Interested?

Ah, Mr/Miss Vondan, that sounds awesome! Hehe, What a neat idea... I love picking through thrift shops, finding fabrics to use, t-shirts and clothing to "alter". My mother doesn't like me doing that, she thinks my creative streak of slicing and re-piecing things isn't good. ^^; Heh, you sound dedicated to your creations - a tiny zipper even? Ah, it'd be awesome to see your work! I'll try to post up some pictures of my dollies when I get to doing them!

Good luck on that next project, Vondan!

Wow, you run the Fan Creation Station, Miss Ellen? Ja, it's nice to meet you, then, my name is Victoria. *shakes your hand* I'd love to attend! I'm working out a schedule, on what needs to be done, registeration and getting there, though (_ _); I'll do my best though!

Hn..I'll try to remember all the dolls I've made so far.

 FF7 - Cloud Strife (2 of them)
FF7- Vincent Valentine (2 of them)
LoZ - Link ( Various sizes- Bigger than palm and mini size)
Inuyasha- Inuyasha doll (2 of them)
Inuyasha - Kagome
Inuyasha - Shippou
Kingdom Hearts - Sora
Kingdom Hearts - Riku
Kingdom Hearts - Kairi
Sonic Video Games - Miles Tails Prower
Rurouni Kenshin - Rurouni Kenshin

I know I've done more... XD

I make a basic doll pattern - I sew a torso, two basic arms (They look like finger covers XD), two basic feet, and a head. Depending on what the character wears, I'll use the color for the arms/legs if the clothing the person wears is straight black or something. But usually, I make all my dolls have flesh tone felt bodies. Then I start adding on the clothes, it's easier to add the head on last, so I can get the shirts and tops on easily. After making/piecing together clothes, I do the head/face and then hair and extra stuff.

 I'll post up a picture of some months ago work. I've gotten alot better ^^;

Thank you for the invitation, Miss Ellen!

@ Rem   They would not allow my miniatures in the con they have live steel weapons and would insists on tiny little peace bonds

I sill don’t know if I will be able to go, The talks about the movie are still in the works and if it is filmed this year it will be though October (just because the historical battle took place in Montana in October does not mean we should film then/there, I want them to film in LA with snow made from corn flakes).  But if that falls though I want to go to every event and con in several genres I can Sci-Fi, SCA, Black Powder, Ren Fair and Anime.  I need to make up for not going to any con or nerd events in the last 10 years.  IF I do go I will try and make up some sort of demo but wont know till July

@ Catgirl Rin Tin Tin .  It's Dan, Von Dan 0013

http://vondan.com/dan/studio/golden.jpg

As you can see I’m so dashing that’s why Rem keeps inviting me to do a demo so she can see me again.

There is actually a big market in redressing 1/6 scale male figures like GI Joe in Military and historical uniforms, and high-end fantasy and glamour outfits for Barbie.  They Sell 50 dollar base bodies just for some one to build off but I’m to cheap.  Since loose male bodies are not as common at thrift stores I get every one I find and then get choosey about the female bodies or Barbie (The other day I was checking the legs of every one to find a Barbie with the jointed knees from the horse set so she can sit on a motorcycle (so Biker Joe can have a Biker B***H on the other empty bike)) and damn it the one time I found an actual GI Jane body the feet had been melted off and some one had given her tattoos on the lower back like a sorority girl.

And your dolls remind me of how my aunt said they made dolls when they were kids.  Things like Flower, Sugar and grains came in cloths sacks.   Not all the sacks were plain white like on little house on the prairie, some times they were in colors or patterns to entice ladies to buy that sack of food if they wanted to make cloths from the sack.  And the white ones often had pictures or logos on the front.  So they would cut out the company mascot or the pictures and sew on a back and stuff them to make dolls.

*blushes*  nope the dashing wasn't it....though hey, if it helps attendance that's great   *grin*

i really want each of you there doing demos!!! (vondan your leather one if not the miniatures...hopefully both)

consider yourselves each guaranteed time on the schedule if you want it!
love

Hey Rin Rin if you could make Tohru from Fruits Basket, I would totally die! I would scoop one up sooo fast! anyway, you should think about it, cause SD keychains are just not enough!

Annyway, I suggest taking pictures of the dolls with a digital camera for us all to see!

*waves to all* Hello, I am Michi. I run Ellen's errands at the conventions and help her out billions. ^_^ The dollies sound like a great idea. I think it would be a fun panel. I've run some panels myself, and improved on one or two.

Lists of anime...

Revolutinary Girl Utena
Sailor Moon
Samurai Champloo
Gundamn Wing

The list can go on and on. If you need ideas for dollies to make. Just poke around the boards. I think everyone will jump at you.

Oh! You can also make the dollies, and get a table in the Dealer's Room, where things are sold. You'd make quite a bit of money. Of course, you could also take orders or something like that.

utena dolls would be cute!!

I know you area already doing Inu Yasha so that is good, and Sailor Moon is always a favorite.  Everyone seems to be big on Trigun and Naruto

I dunno about anyone else but I wouldn't mind some cute pokemons ( I am a sucker for cute thing)

If these things turn out great, I will probably end up spending a fortune,eep.. Heey So Rin Rin, how much do you think you would sell these dolls for?

I can do a Tohru! ^___^ I've got the right felt color for her uniform, I'll try to get it done tonight, if I can! I love Fruits Basket - I was planning on making the whole cast as tiny little dollies, and send them to the author of the manga. ^^ She puts an address on the back of mangas where you can send fanart and other things for her - I think she'd like that.

Neh neh, it's nice to meet you, Vondan-San =D *shakes your hand again* Nin nin! Your creations sound interesting - could you post up some pictures sometime? I'd love to see your work!

Hoy, Remmy-Chan, I'm not planning on going to Sakuracon, sorry ^^; But thanks for the offer there! I'll do my best to turn up for Kumoricon though!

Ahhh, Michi-San, those are great ideas for dolls! I bet the Gundam Wing boys would go fast! I'd keep a Duo Maxell doll all for me... XD Dealers room, huh? Ne ne, I'll PM you and find out more - it'd be neat to talk to you!

Hey Leashy-Chan, your name reminds me of the Leashy from "Quest for Glory - Shadows of Darkness" - Ever hear of it? XD Anyways... Ja! Thank you for the doll ideas! Miaka would be an easy doll to make recognizable ^^ *claps hands* Eee...I'll see if I could do Pokemon, perhaps =D Thanks! I'll PM you when I get home - I'm at school right now, the reason will be mentioned later in this post

Oieee! SuperJazz - that sounds so great! The materials I use to make the dolls are felt pieces - any size is great! I've used so many sizes, and the way I make the clothes, I "piece" everything together. In other words, if the doll's costume has a grey bracer on the arm, I use a small rectangle grey piece and sew it on. ^^ Other than felt, if it's a special job, I use faux fur, and recently I've started to use superglue on tricky parts ^^; Ehh....For swords and everything like armor/shields/swords - I use paint and cereal boxes and all.

Thanks, Remmy-Chan! I'll show you some other work I've done. My friend Andy, for halloween, wanted to be FF7 Cloud Strife AC - I made his armor and pieced together the sleeve, the skirt/thing, and his shirt by using thrift store stuff. ^^ I had alot of fun with this! But I didn't make his sword.. (_ _)Ah well...

http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/8463/vicandypose7jt.jpg - Andy

http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/8334/vicandyjoel5dn.jpg - The guy on the right is Joel - I made his claw and thats it ^^

http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/6996/vicandyanotherpose1ii.jpg - Andy again

http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/586/vicandyswordagain8md.jpg - Andy again again

http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/2307/vicjoel3pt.jpg - Joel again ^^

Alright, I hope these links work! I'll post again once I'm home!

Yeah Once time in P Land we needed DVR to burn some anime and next to the computer store was a Jo Ann's and at 11 in the evening I went in (while my friends hid in the nerdmacho computer store) and got 15 sets of patterns.  I save the coupons for the big items like the $40 cutting pads and I get a merchants discount.

Alright, I finished the Tohru! XD It took a bit longer with the blue edging I had to do on parts of her Fuku though, so it was about... 5 hours? Geh, I had doubling back to make a thick blue line on her collar and cuffs. I need thicker blue thread ^^;

http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/3986/resizedtohrudark6ij.jpg - Front View

http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/2167/resizedtohruface19oq.jpg - Face Upclose

http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/47/resizedtohrubehind0fn.jpg - Behind View

http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/1488/resizedtohru29gn.jpg - Tohru!!!! ^^

I know the quality of the photo isn't good, but what do you guys think? I was thinking, selling them $5 a dolly - that's why I set my price around here for the few requests I've done for people.

Na no da! The problem with felt is that the fibers sometimes mix a little bit - I'm going to put Tohru in a little plastic bag so she doesn't get the white on her fuku all dirty/start taking on a blue color from her blue uniform.

I think I'll continue with another Fruits Basket person, or a Chobits! I think Chii would be a good seller! XD And I want to make an Edward from FMA! And some Kyou Kara Maou - Gunter/Wolfram/Gwendal ^^ Ra Ra!

Hn, I could do some props, you're right, Remmy-Chan! I've got a few ideas on what to start soon next month!

Hoy! I meant to post up pictures of my latest creations but the digital camera, which is my dad's, needs new batteries! So they're charging up right now.

I've made a Tohru so far, a Yuki, Kagura, and a Kyo! ^^ I've also got Ayame's and Momiji's body finished, they just need heads.

The finished dolls, they all, at first, had their faces drawn on with a permanent marker (thick too!). I thought it looked not very good with the rest of the work I put into the dolls. So, yesterday, I went to town with my parents - the whole family went because it was dentist day. No cavaties for Vicky! Anyways, I stocked up on felt as I have recently cleaned out the local craft shop of all the skin-colored felt.

I found a perfect shade of brown I've been needing desperately - a light brown, not the really dark or barely brown color. I'm going to use it for Miaka or something else because I'm only going to do the main characters of Fruits Basket before I move onto to another series.

(Should I do all the Sohma's, will they sell even better because there are no other UFO character dolls available for them? I'm planning on doing Shigure, Hatsuharu and that's it, for Fruits Basket.)

Ahem, and yesterday I was looking for fabric paints, mainly black and white to paint on faces for the dolls because I thought it'd look much better/professional. I found no cheap fabric paint, so I bought acrillac paint hoping it would work. I got home last night and tested it out and it worked beautifully! I was so worried it might not, but I bought many paintbrushes, though rather cheap, and thin ones too! So the dollies, I'll post pictures of, and that's that!

Oieeeeeeee! *hops around and hands everyone some pocky* I'm so happy! Yesterday night as well, I made up a new doll pattern! I'm going for bigger and larger! Yes, I'm making just over a foot dolls! I think I'll do more than one.. ^^; *gets ruler out*

Ah, yes! I've got the body all finished - torso with legs (up to the calves) part, and have sewed the arms on and have a neck all ready. 12 inches reaches just above the armpits! XD I've never done anything this big before! Yayyy!

Yesterday too, it was a great day to find crafty thigns, I went to 2 thrift shops. I absolutely LOVE thrift shops, great to find cheap fabrics and crafty things! It was $5 bag day at one of them, so I found a leather skirt to add to my fabric collection, and an odd sort of pair of pants - it's like leather but not really. It's not thick enough to be so, and it feels more plastic-y than leather. Anyone help me out on defining the fabric type? It'd great, thin enough to sew, I think, and will surely be of use in my 6 month goal of making 50 dolls before Kumoricon!

 It's a brown/dark burgundy color!

 Right, at the thrift shop, I bought a thick plastic-ish bag, a light blue for a pair of high-heel-ish shoes to sew onto the calves of this "+12Feet" doll. I bought some funny light blue shorts and made them into *tight* pants, with a thin black line running down each leg. And a line running from the top of the pants to the crouch ^^;

I found a dark purple/brown pair of pants, and bought a shirt a purpler shade, to make a long-sleeved lapel coat. I did everything today, except the shoes, that was last night's work! And I need to make a t-shirt, add some defining to the coat, which will have a black fur collar, and fur edging around each wrist cuff.

The t-shirt will be a light lime green, but I'm using a slightly darker shade, I hope no one notices it! The coat I made is supposed to be a bit more dark purple than it is, but with my reference, the series saved on my computer and viewed on my DivX Player, shows the coat in different shades. Ah well, it still looks good! And I need to do a belt at the top of the pants, so I don't have to hem there. I'm really doing my best at this big doll, I want it to look great!

I need to do a head too, with felt hair, glasses, and I have to do a superb job on the face! And I have to put white bandages around the neck! Which is good, because I'm horrible at connecting heads to necks - the bandages will cover this probably messy job.

Can anyone guess what this doll is going to be? I don't think there is any offical doll of this character, and I hope to make $20 on this one, if I'm very lucky! ^^ It also, to my surprise, stands on it's own, tilts a tiny bit to the *checks* If it's facing the computer screen and I'm looking at it from behind, it's tilting to the left just a bit. Ah well!

Guess who it is! ^^ And I hope all of you are doing great! <333

Oh and thank you, Leashy-Chan, Remmy-Chan! =D Maybe you can have it in your home, Leashy-Chan, if you're quick enough! I'm only doing one  doll of each character, so the 50 doll-goal will of 50 different dolls, no extras or anything ^^; I'd rather diversify with many different "tastes" (dolls) rather than do 10 of Tohru, and 10 of 5 different characters ^^;

Your PM sounds interesting! I'll reply to it next!

 And Remmy-Chan - ground breaking? XD Hasn't anyone else sold handmade dolls at a Kumoricon convention before? Ano, workshop? What do you mean by that? I thought it was just a table that I run, workshop, sounds like I'm going to teach others to make them or something. ^^;

Much love, and guess my "+12-Feet" doll's name and series!

yes a workshop---meaning showing people how you put a doll together from start to finish

that was what i thought you understood that i was talking about, this whole time

in fact i was bragging about your talent today at the kumoricon programming meeting!
Title: Dolly Making! ^__^
Post by: Catgirl Rin Rin on March 12, 2006, 10:27:37 pm
O.o; Wow!

You were bragging about me at a meeting?

 *air punch* Alright then! I'll bring me some doll making equipment! I'll find a good stury case and prepare some things I'll need to show and my patterns. My patterns were paper, traced after each attempt, using trial and error technique and put onto cardboard if it worked. So yar, my patterns on the backs of cereal boxes ^^;

And I'll bring some cut-out felt pieces to show, and some already sewn and ready to turn inside pieces! I do a torso and neck, legs, and arms pattern-style. I'll bring some in between a doll job, and then a bit more done, and a nearly done doll and show the way I did it. I'll make it the same character, and maybe even finish each "in-between the actual finish" doll and give it to a random watchers!

*looks over writing* I've never sewed infront of an audience, intending to teach them. ^^; Will that work okay?

If not, I'll suggest/ask some other ways, because if you are telling others there's going to be a workshop for doll making by me, I'll do my best to do so! I'll find a way to get to the convention! Even if, I don't finish my pikachu on time, I can still go to the convention without a costume right? ^^; This'll be my first convention ever... I probably will be able to, but I just want to make sure.

ALSO...

I'm really excited about making things to other people - it's always given me a great feeling that even after so many hours, knowing that it'll make someone smile/be happy, makes me feel so great. ^^; *sharing funny-ish feelings with you all* I've made a kirby dollie, he needs feet still, but I'm hoping to make about 5 kirby dolls and sell them too! I want to set up a table with a bunch of little things people will hopefully like and want to buy!

So, that's why, I'm going to try out some clay making! I've found a recipe for self-hardening clay! It's more like a dough that dries out when left at room-temperature, air dries! I first found a recipe for salt dough, but the stuff takes HOURS to bake in a domestic oven - what is a domestic oven anyways? I have a stove/oven at home here, a standard oven, I think it is. I didn't know there were other types of ovens besides pizza ones... XD

Anyways, the self-hardening dough I'll start on tomorrow, and I hope to make little figurines of video game characters and anime! Will it be a hit, do you think?

(https://www.kumoricon.org/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg118.imageshack.us%2Fimg118%2F414%2Fff8lagunasquallrinoaseiferchib.jpg&hash=57e22d7ed929580f823cce6ab7f3074ebcef7dcf)

These are real official figurines, and I'd like to use them as reference and try to copy them but not completely. Is that okay? Will I be sued or something, or can I use the same sort of idea and have to change it a bit? I've never done any clay work, but with crafts, I take on new things fairly easy.

 Also, I bought small magnets yesterday - any good ideas on using them? If I'm really ambitious, would making two obvious/fangirl couples, and selling them as a set, with their hands holding hands by use of magnets, be a good idea? I've been thinking of so many different ideas, but I wonder if I'll have time to all of them. ^^;

 What do you guys thing?

When I was 8 I used that to make a model of Speed Racer's MOCK FIVE. In the fullness of time and the misty haze of memory I can still see it now as a PERFECT copy of the car from the TV show.  I left it on the picnic table in eh back yard to dry (I was not allowed to use the oven) and it disappeared.  I know Eddie Rip Off took it he never admitted it but we fixed him with a brick to the head 2 weeks later.

sounds perfect, you are going to be a wonderful workshop hostess i'm certain! yay!

i'm going to give you a highlighted spot :)

well you'll have your choice of spots. but i'm going to personally make sure it's at a time i have no other responsibilities so i can learn from you!

feel free to have 2 slots, or a 2hour slot, if you want to incorporate projects with clay and/or magnets.

the obvious choice would be to make clay figures small enough that a magnet would hold it to a fridge!

and yes definitely also get an artists'
alley table, these should all sell like pocky!

that's wonderful jaz!
perhaps you and our kitty-girl friend could chat between now and the con and the two of you could even perhaps cohost the session, with her doing the demo part of the workshop and then you and her both assisting folks to try to make their own dollies?

i *believe* i could probably even get a modest budget towards this

This sounds like a good idea because I was speaking with Michelle the girl who ran the Cat ears workshop and she does not want to run it herself but would be happy to get the things together for a workstation.  Maybe we could do an Arts & Craft station with dolls and Cat ears!

Ahh, so much offered support and help-ready people! Thank you, Jazzy-Chan! Maybe you could help host the workshop! I'd love to get to know you better and maybe we can work out an idea! I'm always full of ideas, and your fabric would be a great help! I usually work in felt, as it's easier because I don't have to hem, but the problem is the dark color fibres often bleed onto lighter colors. And right now, I'm storaging the complete ones in individual bags so they don't shed color fibres ^^;

But any fabric is great! Say, Jazzy-Chan, do you sew much? Could you give me any tips on hemming? Making the job easier? ^^; I'm so used to felt now...

And...

Alright... To finish this 16-inch Agatsuma Soubi doll from the Anime Loveless took... 3 days! 4 in reality, but I worked on it for 3 days, skipped yesterday for some reason ^^;

 He's got his calve-length, dark purple with black fur edge coat. And his tight blue jeans and his blue high-heeled shoes. His green shirt that I couldn't tell was a long sleeve, t-shirt or muscle shirt, so I made a t-shirt, but you can't really see it anyways... ^^;

I have his belt, the bandages around his neck. His face is painted, took 3 attempts to get it right, and glasses as well. His hair is in strands rather than a big chunk cut in the shape of his hair.

I think I really did a great job with this one! It's my first big doll! Usually, I make the little ones the size of the Fruits Basket characters, which are 8 inches.

I think the price for the detailed Soubi should be $20 - and that's pushing it, I think. Is that too much, do you think?

 - This is so you all can see what the doll is supposed to look like. The coat is darker in the series. For Reference, I watched episode 1 and 12, which really only had the outfit. Soubi changed outfits lots as did everyone else ^^;

i know basic sewing i've made the costumes my brothers and i wear for kumoricon, i tend to pick up a bit learning wise just by working at joannes , with other fabrics that frey, i'd think alternitve to sewing with those tiny cut, like useing stich witchery or testing out frey check on differnt fabric types but yeah it would be awesome to co host a pannel for kumoricon.

^^ Oh, good idea, Jazzy-Chan! I recently found out, helpful for tiny doll clothes, that using clear nail polish could fix up those hems nicely! I could just do that when it's inside out, coat or whatever, and then turn it right way and ta-daa! No mess, hopefully! I must try it out! ^^

I've been working on duplicating things rather than making more dolls (_ _) So much for my goal of 4 dolls a week... I  must give Ayame Sohma a head, Hatsuharu as well, and Kisa needs clothes and a head. And I'm planning to do Shigure and that's it for Fruits Basket.

Edward Elric is up next! And maybe a "16-incher" this week!

But here is some pictures of my Papou fruits!

Alright, the black lines on the shell were painted on, it took some time XD Anyways, does it look alright to you guys? I was thinking, $4-5 dolls a Tama-Chan, I think I'll make 4 more.

 $4 a little Kirby dolly!

 $4-5 for a Papou Fruit!

 Does that sound reasonable?

Alright, who would buy the following?

 An anime chest set? - What my idea is, is to make little chess size figures from my self-hardening dough mixture, because large projects just didn't work ^^;

The only question is, what anime to aim for? I was thinking, maybe Inyasha, with Inuyasha as white king and Kagome as the white queen. Naraku or Sesshoumaru as the black king because then Rin could be the queen. XD

Other than that, I don't know who should fall as what as game pieces... Any ideas? Or another anime that you think will be good for a chess set? I'll probably by an already-made chessboard from a thrift shop and paint it and anime-fy it. ^^

And also, some new ideas I'm cooking up! Bee bears from Kyou Kara Maou - about 5 of each.

Backpacks - it'll mostly be for decoration rather than a backpack, really, but still, it'll have a zipper and everything! I'll post a picture of it soon!

And other than that, nothing else new! I hope all of you are well!

Oh, check out this chess game some creative soul made! XD It's sooo cute!

Also, an anime quilt? A certain anime show with character faces and such on it? Would a small quilt big enough to cover a tummy, be sell-worthy you think? XD

Post by: Catgirl Rin Rin on March 28, 2006, 07:28:54 pm
If you come to the convention, sure! I'll reserve one for you, and anyone else, I have lots of time before the convention, so if you want to reserve a something, let me know! Sorry, but reserving is only for little mascot things like papou fruits and kirbies and tama-chans, and the zillion other little things I have in mind to make. No reserving for dolls, I don't think because it takes alot of work to complete one.

Well, if you want to reserve a doll, I'd say, $2 extra for the time it takes. I was planning on only making one doll of each. Although, for the Gundam Wing Boys I'm going to make really soon, I'll do two of each because they're so well known and probably so cute I'd want to see a bunch of them!

Oh, and if you PM with a special request for a doll or something else, I'll look at it and consider (probably say yes) XD... If you just give me the name, series it's from, and a reference picture, I'll do my best if I do it (which I probably will) XD

Note, that reserving and requesting can be cut off anytime - I'd like to get at least 50 dolls before September, and the request and reserved won't fall under that 50 doll goal of mine ^^; So there we go!

^^ Or if you give me your mailing addy, and somehow pay me, I'll send it to, W-Chan!

 Make me an offer!

XD Maybe we can make flowers in a basket, Leashy-Chan! Little flower bunches in a basket, and make it an Aeris Special! Any Aeris's could come and buy flower baskets to complete their costume! XD

I just thought of that for some reason just now. Right, simple - we should brainstorm sometime!

^^ I thought of flower selling because I had a picture in my mind of you with a basket, selling papou fruits to people.

Oh, W-Chan, so, I'll see the Papou's for $4 - Official Price, and then it'll be $6 because it's a reserved one. So there you go!

The Gundam chibi Duo didn't work out so great. XD I could get a good head on him, I kept painting faces too big for the head so I chopped of the head I did and now I'm doing a tiny Edward Elric. I think I may do 5 mini Edwards and 5 palm size, Tohru-size XD

I'll post the picture of Edward tonight!

i just find that if you don't have anything enlightening or really interesting to bring to a topic, it is usuallybetter to wait until you do rather than just post the first 5 word sentence that comes to you mind and in addition to that, if it is something that could easily be put in a PM to the person it is better to do it there rather than just post to get your post count up.

And thatis my rant for the day ^^

Right well, Yes, Wolf Wood, what is your name please? I'll put "Wolf Wood/____ (your name) So there's no confusion, so when I'm at the con, I wont' go, which one? XD I'll put on the masking tape label you're from here, the forums as well!

 I'll be dough-ing tonight, to make a little model of Inuyasha, to possible use for chess. Seriously, is there an anime that has ideal characters enough to make chess pieces? ;_;

Oh! I tested the Chii model I did, it was kinda bad, but I let it dry and tested it's strength. It broke after LOTS of pressure, so that's good. And I tested painted Chii's hair black, and it looks awesome ^^ I'm so happy!

I'll post it a picture of mini chii later! Thanks Leashy-Chan, *Gives you some cookies* =3

Hey so do you really think you will be able to make a chess set like that out of clay?  What kinds of characters will you make?  Do you think you will have to put a glaze over them or something?  Hmm that could be interesting you will have to update me on how that turns out Rin Rin.

I have never been good at making things out of clay really.

Hai! I am certain, Leashy-Chan! I'll do my best tonight, but when you ask what kinds of characters, I'm not sure. ^^;

The problem is finding an anime/game, whatever, with characters that could be made into pieces that fit with who they are.

I need help choosing an anime, but I'm going to try to do an Inuyasha person tonight ^^

Yeah, hehe, things would be different in packing and storing for our different crafts, ne?

I may call upon you for something, maybe, if you're taking commisions, Vondan-san. You work mainly in leather and metal work?

Oh, I was in much better health this morning, Leashy-Chan, so I finished Mini Edward Elric! He's sooo cute, and I'm going to do 4 more. Only mini Eds and I'll move onto something else tonight! I did another Papou fruit and I'm going to try to do a Tonberry afterschool maybe.

I am going to make them 3 ways.  A basic spiky leather bracelet (Your basic punk gear) A spiky leather bracelet that is extra thick and cartoony.  A soft spiky bracelet made on a leather covered foam ring.

I always got a kick (Edit I made a pun) out of the opening credits to the Street fighter cartoon.  When they introduce “Hard Kicking Chun Li” she is kicking a tank to pieces.   They should have had that in the movie.  Or some one should cosplay as Chun Li and some one else should cosplay as a giant cardboard tank

PS this may show up twice in some way I encoutered a MSQ error when i tried to post it the first time

^^ I sure am open for commision of any character, as long as it's human-ish shaped. I really haven't tried to do animals aside from cats, but I suppose knowing how to do a cat can branch off into many other animals... XD

My open doors for commissions will be opening and closing between the first few things I have to make for others, and once those are done, I'll set them aside and take on other things.

Right now, I can accept 1 more project before I take on more. Do you have a request, NeoLucky-San? I'll do my best if you give me a picture or a very detailed description of the character. And request a pose if you'd like, I'm going to try and work with adding soft wire into the dolls so they can be posed XD

An extra thing like a wand or staff too, I can make for it. Oh! And most important, the size of the plushie!

I have 4 and 1/2 inches - very minimal detail and mostly extremely cute

About 6 inches - medium detail and still cute (I think)

And I'm going to go for a 11 inch doll pattern sometime soon, with good detail and cute

and a 16 incher will be very detailed and everything.

The smallest size, I think, will be $5.
The 6 incher - $8
11 incher (Whenever I get around to it) - $10

And the 16 incher will be $15-20 because ALOT of work goves into them!

Do those prices sound good, do you think?

But yes, please post in here again, NeoLucky, I hope to get to know you better! ^^

 My name is Victoria =D

Heee awesome!  I'm thinking of requesting one little 6 inch dolly =3 but it may take me a few days to decide on which one! Your prices are *incredibly* cheap, heck you should charge more!

Most people just call me Neo, or Niccy by the way hehe. It will be human shaped for sure and fairly simple XD at least I hope! I dopn't wanna be a burden for super-detailed stuff! If you like I can Pm you or email you or aim you to chat about it o.o so I dont clutter up your thread.

thanks for your consideration X3 it would be a pleasure to order one from you!

A 6-incher is the size of those dolls I posted a few pages ago, those ones of Fruits Basket characters. ^^ I'll take a few better pictures.

Haha, my, you are so very considerate, Neo-Chan! But please, by all means, clutter my thread! I love it when people take interest in crafts and such. =3 So, Vondan-San, don't feel urk-ish about talking about your stuff in this thread. *hopes to ease any worries you may have/and if you haven't I'm just easing for no reason*

Omigosh, are they cheap? I thought the prices were pushing it! XD I've never been into business before so, eto, should I up the prices by $5?

The smallest size, I think, will be $10
The 6 incher - $12 (or so?)
11 incher (Whenever I get around to it) - $15-20

And the 16 incher will be $20-25?

I think you could easily up the prices by 5 =) there are many who'd want to pay that much for them! They're so adorable and they're hand crafted. People need to pay top dollar for something that you yourself have to pay to create. Basically for me it all boils down to how much I spend on the materials, and then go from there =D! In anycase those prices seem reasonable to me for sure!

I did the Kingdom Hearts trio about a year ago for my friend Zoe ^^

It was for her birthday, and I put lots of work into them, hehe. But looking back on my work then and now, it looked pretty sloppy. I guess I have to thank everyone for having birthdays and all, because it was on those days when I made something special for them - if my friends didn't have birthdays, I would never have gotten all my practice XD

I did Sora and Kairi with papou fruits, Sora with a keyblade as well, and Kairi with a heart. Riku had a heartless as well.

I'm planning to do a single KH Trio set, Wolf Wood-San, so I won't reserve it, it'll be an ultra super rare doll collection! I'll sell them as a group or single, but group will be probably $25, with all the time and extra stuff.

So, if you want to buy them, you best be quick! I've got a surprise, I'll post it up later! ^^

AHHHH! I forgot to mention in my working of late hours! Vondan-San! I want a dollie like that! XD Ahahaha, how long did it take you to make? Did you do the face or did you use a dolly as a base and build up on it? I like that mask, and the piece on it's back makes it look like a ladybug! ^_^

 - Chibi Edward Elric!

My next project is 6-inch dolls Kairi, Sora, and Riku Set, and Chibi FF7/8/9/10 characters.

FF7 - Cloud, Sephy, Vincent, Aeris, Tifa
FF8 - Rinoa, Squall, Seifer, Selphie, (maybe more!)
FF9 - Garnet, Zidane (Two of both maybe)
FF10 - Yuna, Tidus, Rikku, (one of each maybe)

Any more game character suggestions? I'm aiming for *WELL KNOWN* characters because the detail on these guys is bare minimum. Ed is well known enough to make him chibi and those FF characters are easy to recognize.

I'm also going to try to make a Chihiro, Haku and some other little things from Spirited Away ^^

I do more redress of dolls err minitures then buidling the bodies.  I was doing a study on making a lady bug costume for a friend’s toddler.  The first was made from an old bedspread then I made this one from Upholstery leather.  The first took an hour as I thought about it, the second shell took 20 minutes.  A finished one would have web back pack like straps that would be hidden under Velcro closed flaps on the outer costume.  It would also work for turtles.   The mask was the calfskin collar from a hiking boot that had a hole in it.  I picked out the stitches and replaced it with a new piece of leather then I saw the old piece on the floor with one hole in it and put it on and went around saying I’m batman.  Then I trimmed it out and made a second hole and put it on the Kattie Buggs Model.  And I think Kattie Buggs she have her own cartoon as a toddler super hero.

I don’t see why not.   I have seen 1/6-scale dolls like Barbie redressed as Valkyrie with little swords and chain mail on e bay going for $200.   They may have started with one of the High-end bodies from Dragon or CY but unless you really need 100 Points of articulation I'm using Barbie’s.  err ahh because they don’t make enough females in the GI Joe Line to work with not that I want to use barbies

hi friends, i gotta be honest with you, this is the most exciting thread on the forums to me!!

it's almost time for me to make my first draft of a creation station schedule, so i need to get a sense from both catgirl rin-rin and vondan:

how long would you each like for your workshops? an hour? two hours?

would you need any supplies provided by the convention?

would you need any reimbursement for supplies provided to the convention?

my vision would be that you would each have a two hour slot. and that in your first hour slot you would give a workshop in the old fashioned sense of walking through what you do and how and why you do it and with what materials and what places to sell it and other applications of your instructions to other creative projects etc. and walk people through you creating something and/or finishing something up right there on the spot as a demo. then in the second hour you and/or the con provide the supplies, and congoers actually get to experiment with following the instructions you provided and demonstrated while you go around the room and cheer them on and give them pointers. then of course they can remain there longer as other workshops go on working on their projects. what do you think?

meantime i would love to get some lessons ahead of time, in particular i want to make my own plushies!!!!!!

This sounds like a good idea because I was speaking with Michelle the girl who ran the Cat ears workshop and she does not want to run it herself but would be happy to get the things together for a workstation.  Maybe we could do an Arts & Craft station with dolls and Cat ears!

yes she brought this idea to me at the kc meeting at u of o before sc, and again at sc, this should work our splendidly :)

gosh, good thing the creation station is in two rooms til 10pm this year!

^_^ Hey Remmy-Chan! Glad to see you're back! First things first:

Quote
how long would you each like for your workshops? an hour? two hours?

2-Hour slot sounds great - I think I can explain and show how I make a doll under an hour, which gives everyone more time to try and make a doll themself. I'll find a nice simple character to make, something everyone will surely like.

Quote
would you need any supplies provided by the convention?

Well, for starters - Scissors, needles, thread colors (depends on the doll I'll think to make with everyone) And felt pieces would be great!

I have a question - how many are usually in a workshop? Is there a limit for people? I think 15 is a good number... ^^; If not, tell me how many to expect. To make a mini doll, I usually have 1 skin felt sheet folded in half and cut, so it's double layered and ready for sewing together. And then I usually have two other color sheets ready, prepared the same way.

If there's 15 people, and 3 for each person, 4, to make it better, that's 60 sheets of felt. O.o

Quote
would you need any reimbursement for supplies provided to the convention?

If you guys supply the scissors/needles/thread colors and a nice big space to do this at, I can get the felt. I've worked out that 60 felt pieces is $21.00. And that's for the 0.35 a piece felt here in my town, out of town, it's usually 0.40 so that'd be $24. I should be able to pay for that by the time summer ends.

If not, could you guys get the felt pieces? I could pay you back with the money I'll make from my dollies ^^

I can scanner my patterns on paper, Remmy-Chan, and post them up here. I'm hoping to make a little booklet of all my work - I've done a Tama-Chan, and I have the pattern paper I made, and for Kirby and a Papou Fruit too! I have mini doll pattern, Palm size pattern, and my 16-inch pattern. Could I make pattern booklets and sell them too?

Oh, and can you "redress/style" other dolls and sell them? Is that allowed or does one have to make something completely by their own hands? Excluding material and all... Could I buy some kind of clothing, like a hat or t-shirt, and just add some kind anime applique or something and sell that too?

Negima-San, I'm hoping to make a Negima somehwhere along this road of sewing! XD I'll be sure to post it up whenever I get around to it! I'll accept one more commission, and drawings woud be great. I must PM Seraph and Neo-Chan for pictures, because I'd like to get their commissions done ASAP. ^^

I'll PM you as well, after supper, which I must make right now!

*roar* I hope you make a workshop too, Vondan-San! If anyone on here posts another thread needing leather-ish stuff, I'll be sure to reccomend you! I don't know why I didn't, it's great to have ready-make people on here! =D

rin-rin dear:

thank you for your generosity. anything you spend out of pocket is a devoutly appreciated gift. however, i will also work on trying to get some items donated, and i will check the dollar stores, remnant sales, try to find folks who work at stores who could get discounts, and the like. heck, i wish i remembered everything from this society for creative anachronism event i went to in albany in 2002 at which i learned how to make felt!

anyway, i do not have any idea what the total budget is that i will be allocated for kumoricon. but i can try to see about getting at least some things covered for you.

it is also not out of the question to ask each participant to consider donating one or two dollars for supplies, especially if each will leave with at least the start of their very own handmade dollie.

i leave it to your discretion to propose how many people you want to have at the workshop; however please note, i expect this could be much more popular than 15 just based on this thread so far. it is up to you, but what i would propose would be that we line up enough supplies for you to do double that number, then if we only have 15 you get to keep the extra material, and if we have 30 you choose between handling them all at once, or adding in a second round of the workshop later in the weekend during downtime. :)

I think all the basic supplies for the sewing projects for the dollies and cat ears could be found if several of the cosplay princesses donate some of their leftovers and or look for bargains in the next few months.  I already gave all my felt (about 50 sheets) to a nice mousey sunday school teacher with glasses but will keep a look out in the craft section of the thrift stores for more.  I'll start and bring an 18 Gal tub full of stuff.  Upholstery leather and pig skin scraps.  Surger cones, who does not like a frosty surger cone, the other day at goodwill I found a dozen new surger cones each with 3000 yards of thread (Why I got them I don’t know, I have 20 I have not used yet).  I found 100 spools of thread for 5 cents each at a church yard sale and in 3 years have NEVER had to stitch anything that is orange.   I have 200 bed sheets and then a box of cloth scraps.  Of course none of this s of use for the projects I have in mind to demo.

O.o My scissors, the only good pair I have, are in custody of my friend who borrowed my sewing stuff because she wanted to make her friend that she likes a birthday present!

So I'm on a second-day no-sew day! ^^; I have lack of time again, so I'll edit, again.

-_- Busy busy! I was in the 30 Famine this weekend!

I have maybe 15 pair of scissors

1 Pair of Ginger Sewing Scisors
1 Pair of Osborne Leather shears
4 Pair of Mundal Leather scissors
4 Pair that look like Mundals from the Dollor store
2 Office style paper scissors from goodwill
1 EMT shears from a former job (were used to cut the ribs of dead peaple)
1 Blunt platten Bandage scissors (the good kind from Germania circa 1975)
4 Cheapo bandage scissors
1 Metsanbaum (scissors with a curved blade)
1 Pinking shears

And I almost forgot a pair of scissors for cutting the hair of horses they look like normal scissors but 12 inches long, from when my mom was your age and had ponies, the wild shaggy ponies from the last ice age.

And most days I have to hunt all over to find just one pair of Mundals that I use %99 of the time and keep in a tool belt

Ohh I should ware them all to K Con

>>>and dont ask me about the Barbies yet,  I have been swamped with work and have hardley had time to do more than work and go home to rest and some times even just sleep on a couch at work and of course check about eight forums and blogs 10 times a day.  Although friday I have to go see Shakespears Much Ado About Nothing and I dont even have time to go to the library and find an aunt who wants to use the second ticket.

Wow, Vondan-San, that'd supply my workshop, despite their different uses...And all... XD

How are those Barbies doing today?

 *currently checking email*

Well, I've been busy at school and such, and sewing when I can.

I've made a new pattern! This doll will be about 14 inches or so, kinda wide, Chibi-Wide Style! It's gonna be very cute I think, I'm making a J-Rock doll by the name of Shinya from Dir En Grey! Anyone familiar with the band? I've had a PVC Red Vinyl raincoat in my closet for months, and when I found a gorgeous picture on the net, I was set on making it into a dolly.

I went out of town on the weekend and ravaged through two thrift shops. I bought felt, and many black PVC vinyl purses to slice apart and use.

 (https://www.kumoricon.org/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pucciland.com%2Fgothicrealm%2Ffan%255Cshinyaskin.jpg&hash=b6ed14c119d33a220512dafcef292ba557dbd2ca)

(https://www.kumoricon.org/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.deathcom.net%2Fconventions%2F2000-2004%2F2004-otakon%2Fo2k4-sedcm-shinya-006.jpg&hash=80052614b495354539eeb3d09660fda1f18160ff) - A cosplayer.. X_X

 X_X So pretty. I'm working on the legs right now, it's hard! I have to sew on the black vinyl straps onto the red PVC leg coverings one by one, very time consuming! I think, hoping my imagined completed doll of this, will be very awesome, and with all the hand sewing and time, it'd be about $30 or more. ^^;

I've completed 5 more Papou Fruits, for a total of 9. I've got 5 Kirbys in the making, and 2 mini doll bodies ready for dressing.

Palm Size Hatsuharu and Ayame from Fruits Basket STILL need heads, and Kisa needs a head and clothes. ^^; 18-incher Dominique Cross of The Bouncer needs her jacket, boots, detailing, and head.

Comissions: I need pictures from certain people and size requests and such.

I've also got another doll pattern I made from scratch today, it looks like it will work, but I'll have to finish the whole skin body first.

 The heads are always fussy to make... ^_^;

Ah well, email seen and replied, thanks Leashy-chan! ^^

the dolly and cat ears would need small pieces less than 1 Sq foot.  Does your store toss out pieces to small to sell or do they give away the last few inches when some one wants a pirces off the end of a roll.

I'll just save up a bucket of pieces that size and bring them and a few Surger cones

i wish realy but anything over a quarter of a yard is remed out (sold at 50 %off) if smaller they make us cut it up and throw away
i can give this tip tho,  rement fabric =anything under a yard is measured and sold at 50% off regular price, but if the fabric is on sale like a silky, destination india for half off, then the rement is going to be 50% off the sale price, pretty sweet, and on sale days sometimes rements are 75% off
does this make sense? okay try this last sale day i bought 3 fabric pieces that were almost a yard, one normaly 6.99 a yard paid 63 cents
a full yard of silk destination india fabric normaly 10 bucks, it was on sale for 5 bucks+75% off=cost of 1.25 then i got another 15% for working there
so yeah thats the only way i can work at a fabric store
i hope that helps

UPDATE:

^^ Hey everyone! I just cleaned up my room last night! It's so strange to see the floor again. It took ages to tidy up under my chair where I sit, snip snipping with my scissors. All the felt pieces and threads to pick up... X_x

Anyways, I've got 2 skin dolls ready to go, and I've got a Kakashi to make for a friend - commission. Then I've got a Shaggy-2-Goat to do for his brother XD

I'm planning on focusing some time on the Kingdom Hearts characters now. I'm for sure doing KH1 Sora/Riku/Kairi, but I may do KH2 Sora/Kairi/Riku, if I can get a deccent picture.

Maybe even Sora's additional outfits, if I have the time and enough skin coloured felt.

 I'll add some more laters!

And don't worry, Negima, whenever you find the time and can send it to me. Depending on the materials I'll need and the size and other things you'd like me to do with the doll, I'll probably need a week to do and finish - the actual making is about a day, if I take alot of care and muchos effort than normal. The week is just for getting materials I may need. The craft shop here in town, is actually a gift store, it just has craft things in the back for making crafty gifts XD

Anyways, I've cleaned out their Antique White/Ivory felt completely, and it takes a couple months for them to get restock. So to get other felt colors, I need to go out of town and restock my own collection with the needed colors to do your character.

And there are some weekends I don't go out of town for felt or whatever, no thrift shops X_x

Oh, unless, you want your doll to be a bit taller? For dolls 10 inches plus, I can make actual clothes from fabric rather than felt. But there goes the cost for materials because I stalk thrift shops and here in town, it's $2.00 a shirt, $1.00 for kids shirts, so I usually go for the little ones... ^^

But yar, felt or fabric, your choice. I can't rememeber if you specified what you'd like. Height, any special things? I suppose I'll see if you drawn any extra things with your character, ne?

 Rightio, I must go!

*runs off* Good wishes to all!

Have you ever thought about doing Dollfie (barbie sized) clothing? You'd make killer on gothy styles of clothing, or maid outfits an the like!

Make a Totoro doll and I will buy you out of stock! Seriously, if you make anything Hiyao Miyasaki, I would just DIE! Please, please, please, consider anything from Howl's Moving Castle or My Neighbor Totoro, or maybe Spirited Away. I would just take one look at your booth and faint from sheer ecstacy.

yeah it's called 1/6 scale ware the 12 inch GI Joe is a 6 foot man and Barbie is a 5.10 woman (ken is never taken seriously).  I have made a few outfits like Gladiator with weapons in a box I made with picture from the movie and Biker with tiny leather jacket with zipper and put him on a 1/6 moterbike.  I saw a web site that had barbies redressed as Valkyrie and looked right off a Larry Elmore painting going for upwords of $200.   I'm going to try more and maybe an anime redress of some barbies

Whew, replies pile up while I'm working ^^;

I can certainly make a Totoro, I think, if it's this guy!

http://pukomuko.lt/failai/kleckai/totoro.gif

I'm already planning to make a Chihiro and Haku, a few soot balls maybe, and other Spirited away things. Maybe some Mononoke things, a few Kodama for sure, Xaam! I can't wait for you to see the table!

 Sasu-Kitty, I probably could make a Nova doll sometime before September ^^ - http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c249/Hawth/Nova3.jpg - that's him, right?

Wow, the blob thing from Akira? - http://www51.tok2.com/home/yossee/figureland/akira/tetsuo-cs.jpg

^ Was that it? That's all I could find on Tetsuo from Akira on google search, stuff that looked like that guy above. He looks blob-ish.. XD

Ahhh! Totally, Leashy-Chan! *pounces you in a hug* I miss talking to you! X_x I'm gonna PM you after school before I leave for babysitting at 5PM! I hope you're doing well! Guess what! I may extend my 10 Papou fruits to 20 by September. Omigosh, it's really sneaking up on me! I really have to get to work again!

Negima, I look at your picture, it looks very plushable! ^^ A 6-inch I can do for sure! I'll be painting the face on her, is that alright? I'll go for the expression you drew on the picture, and also, side note, for 6-inchers, I do everything felt, no fabric/felt combine. Just to let you know.

So, I'll tell you more about this commission when I complete the doll, alright Negima? =D Thank you for the prompt picture, and I hope you're doing great!

Eto, I've never done barbie-size clothing. The smallest was a lace-lined black coat, design from a Gothic Lolita clothing online store, for a doll as wide as 3 fingers, and about the length from the tips of my middle finger, to halfway to my elbow. ^^; But I'll definately give it a shot sometime!

And yar, Vondan-san certainly can do lots, I wanna find tiny zippers like him! Ne, do you find them at thrift shop stuff? O.o How are those barbies doing? The ones you'd redress?

Remmy-Chan, that sounds so neat! XD Maybe some way to loosely attach dolls so their arms and legs are movable like a puppets. *thinks thoughtfully* Ah well, awesome idea! Yaoi too! XD

Alright, my last 5-day creation, I finished him last night. It's Sora Style from Kingdom Hearts 2. I am soooo happy how he turned out, but I cheated lots. I used about 3 sticks of mini hotglue sticks... But as long as it turns out and looks neat. This costume was great, very symmetrical and fun to follow!

He's just ove 12 Inches, a little less without his hair XD I was afraid I painted his lovely face too big, but I think it turned out!

And some extra pics!

I altered Sora Original pattern, because his torso was too fat, and also his legs are kinda long. Oh well..Next Sora will gain some centimeters then XD

hey that Sora looks like some ones Avatar, but who could it be?   I wonder if Shadow would want one and a box of large pins

I have to order zippers in certain colors and sizes for work and that cost me up to $1.20 a zipper pull and up to $1 a foot for the zipper coil and I get up to 10 yards at a time.  But then I also hunt thrift stores and the other day found 3 Baggies each with about 50 pants fly length zippers in assorted sizes and colors for $1 a bag.  That’s a score and I have found them before, so I don’t have to cut into the other rolls of zipper coil to fix a purse or wallet and the zipper pulls alone could cost me up to $1.

Still been busy, I started a few things on then but they look awful and I should re dress a GI Joe as Chi in the maid outfit

Okay! Here is a list of some Anime dolls I'll be making! The tall series - 13 inches, are for making anime characters. The video games, mostly FF characters 7 and up, will be the mini dolls. A few popular FF and other Video game characters will be made into anime doll size, but meh *shrugs*

 Alright!

The 5 Gundam Wing boys -
Heero - Standard green tank top and black shorts
Duo - His black priest garb
Quartre - Usual dress of pink shirt, purple vest, orange pants
Wufei - usual indigo tank top and his oriental pants and belt
Trowa - Ehehe, his clown outfit! Mask included!

Robin Sena - Black dress, nice and simple with white wrist cuffs and collar

Sesshoumaru  - Usual garb
Rin (Possibly) - Her orange and white checkered outfit

Yami Yugi - His blue jacket and plain black tank top underneath and other acessories
Seto Kaiba - Battle city outfit - White trench coat, and black clothes

Tsukasa - Standard outfit of tan, brown, and white
Lady Subaru - Standard outfit of light green dress with bikini-style top, skirts as well

Chihiro - Usual outfit of pink shorts, white shirt with the green stripes and yellow shoes
Haku - His usual outfit

Sakura Avalon - School winter outfit - one with long sleeves

All I have planned for now! I'm doing 10-ish dolls, then moving on!

Any suggestions or requests? I'll be doing Bakura for sure!

You said a while ago you'd do a Nova doll for me~

Is that still on your list?  Just curious, I didn't see it in your post.

Hai! *nods* Thats on my next doll list! I'm doing these in the next week and a bit - I don't have the right colors for Nova in my stores, nor in the local craft shop. My parents say they aren't travelling to the next town soon, so Nova is shipped to next doll list! ^^

Side note, I'll try to make that Akira blob thing somewheres before I leave for the con!

Sorry for update, but I need some feedback please! ^^

First off, Satsu-Kitty, you won't believe how HARD it is to find good/many Nova pictures! ^^; Here, I found this one, will this outfit be alright to use?

http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/2449/pixelnovabynovaclubtc2.jpg - As costume

http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/418/anime681nz0.jpg - Front, just to show you! ^^ Oh, and do you want a light purple collar or a white? I've seen, out of the few pictures I've scrounged up, have alternations of white and purple. And size? I'm doing a bunch of 13-ish incher dolls right now, simple style yet very cute ^^ They have big feet! Anyways, my Early-Bird-Request Price is $15, I assure you the end result will be good.

At the convention, I've hesitantly set prices!

Mini Dolls - $10
13-Inchers - $20
The Sora size, about 14-inch and super detailed - $30
Papou Fruits - $5

And some more doll ideas! Please, if you want to see something there, or have a request, I'll squeeze you in if I can. I'm just about caught up with my prior requests. A little more work on Chun-Li and a lot more on my suddenly started today Akira Blob O.o

Love Hina Girls - Pink Bath towel wrap-around bodies
Sakura from Tsubasa
Soubi and Ritsuka
Asuka and Rei, if I can
Gundam Boys - Wufei and Quartre are still needed to finish the troop

Maybe some else?

Oh, Neolucky, if you send a drawing of your original character, I'll do my best to finish it! ^^

(https://www.kumoricon.org/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fic3.deviantart.com%2Ffs11%2Fi%2F2006%2F181%2F8%2F2%2FPlushie_Chii_by_Catgirl_Rin.jpg&hash=1e931cf127180c23a8021522571bdb0bf2d3d811) - There is a Chii, SuperJaz ^^ If you drop by my table, maybe she can go home with you!

I think that's it for now!

Rin Rin, all your dolls are so amazing. ^.^ You have such talent.

I have a question. I know he's not an anime character, but I'd be very interested in a Jack Sparrow plushie. I don't know if he would be too difficult to do though. ^^; But I'm more than willing to pay $30 for him.

Here's some reference images if you would like to take a look:

Odd request I know, but you'd be my hero if you could possibly do this for me. ^__^

Hoy!!! C'est moi with the latest of creations! My recent makings are as follows:

(https://www.kumoricon.org/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg133.imageshack.us%2Fimg133%2F4744%2Fchunlilt1.jpg&hash=fbbc716105e8f8ec80328a6c544ea3276fa6c62e) - I have Trowa Barton, Duo Maxwell, Heero Yuy, Syaoran, Negi, and Chun Li!!!

There ya go, Leashy-Chan! I will now PM you! Having this picture for you unlocks a new level! (O.o....) Hehe, *Huggles* I must do proper bracelts too... I may have to do white triangles, flat against the black band - would that be alright? \=\

(https://www.kumoricon.org/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg154.imageshack.us%2Fimg154%2F128%2Fgroupupea1.jpg&hash=85d705a8de123ffb107e6e53e21b61b830641a7c) - ALL my work so far! A free keychain heart to whomever can name each and every thing first!

Oh! My latest mini thing is Keychain hearts!

(https://www.kumoricon.org/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg140.imageshack.us%2Fimg140%2F7605%2Fstringheartsav4.jpg&hash=b05abfb5599fb5bbfd577b83ae1def2adbbd0e24)

They're little red hearts made out of felt with black embroidary thread spelling out names. I'll be making +20 for my Artist Alley table at Kumoricon this year, and each have a Bishie name! I've got, so far, Riku, Sora, Roxas, Axel, Cloud in that order. Hard to tell, ne?

I'll be making more and they're $5 each!

Any more suggestions or a character name you'd like to see on there? Remember, bishies!

Nova will be in the next photo shoot, and that Kamineko too, I hope!

I'll be glad to do Jack Sparrow for you, Shadow-San, I'd do my best at him, I've already bought the necessary blue for his vest and his white shirt. The boot cuff felt will be in a few days, and other than that. I'll start on his skin body, and I'll try to have it done soon! XD Before the convention, at the very least!

 Thank you for the lovely comment, I've had nearly 2 years practice and still learning and improving my weak spots. What size would you like? I'm working on a batch of 11-12 inch dolls lately, and the next week and a bit. I plan to get 50 of the same size dolls by the end of August, the 27th, to be exact. ^^;

I also have Mini size, about 6 inches, but the detail is less, and the main parts of the costume are kept while belts and other un-necessicites are lost due to the limit space for clothes and such.

If you're willing to pay $30, I suggest the 11-inch or so doll. The detail is fair, and plus, maybe I'll throw in a rum bottle! XD I'm guessing I'll find yo u at the convention somewhere, ne?

My name is Victoria =D May I ask your name, Shadow?

White collar it is, Sasu-Chan! ^^ *taps your nose*

Oh Rin Rin, thank you so much! ^__^ I've been dying for a Jack Sparrow plushie.

Let's see.. the 11 or 12 inch doll size will be just fine. Since I'd love for the plushie to have the detail. OMG rum bottle! XD That would be awesome! Oh yes, I'll be around the convention. Will you be in the dealer's room? If you need to find me I'll be in Shadow cosplay. ^^ (I don't think there will be many Shadow's running around.) If needed I'll be more than happy to give you my cell phone number.

Nice to meet you Victoria! My name is Shannon. ^^ (I'm a female unlike my SN may suggest.)

Thank you so much again!

Looks like I might have to pick up a Negima doll too. ^_^

Okay, let's see here...

The star fruit, Sora, Kairi, and Riku from KH; Heero, Trowa, Duo from GW; Chi from Chobits; Chun Li fro Street Fighter; Negi, Asuna, Setsuna, and *squint* Kamo-kun? from Negima; Ed from FMA; Totoro; Kirby; Tama-chan from Love Hina; Syaoran from Tsubasa; Cloud, Tifa, Aerith (or Aeris), and Vincent from FF7; Soubi; Tohru from Fruits Basket; and Namida from my story.

I think I'm missing a few.

*smiles*I might just have to order the three Starlight plushies from you Rin-Rin... Though I'd only be able to pay for them at the convention. That's the way it goes with my job and I... *sighs* But, you make very adorable plushies!

Wooooo! ^_________^ Just confirmed today at 5:42PM!!!!

I'm the last table in the Artist Alley! *does the awesome dance*

I'll be plowing full steam ahead now! The very least, a doll a night - two would be great!

I'm hoping, a crazy scheme, to try and get over a thousand O.o I wonder if it's possible with felt, glue, thread, and a little of my heart, hehe.

So, if I make 50 dolls the size of 11 inches, that'd be $1000 right there. If I make 30 dolls of 11 inches, and 10 dolls the big size selling at $30, that'd be $900, plus the $100 from the 20 $5 hearts I'm making right now!

Hurry and submit your suggestions for names on a heart keychain! Anime character name! Video Game name! I can do any name, or short phrase - ask me if I can do it, I'll try, and if so, I'll save it for you at the convention!

Also - I won't add any to the cost of pre-ordering!!! - There is no point, I'm making the dolls just because people would like to see them/have them at the convention. So, no paying extra for asking for a doll to be made - I may stop short soon and say no more comissions so hurry up! That "no more comissions" would apply for dollys only - I will continue taking heart names till the end of August, I would think.

^^ That is all! And I will use white triangles, Leashy-Chan! Wooo! Awesome possum! I'll put it to good use and help you out with the costume when I come over! <33333

Post by: Catgirl Rin Rin on August 05, 2006, 08:14:26 pm
Alright, no more comissions henceforth! XD

My following jobs are as follows:

Nova - 20% Finished(Have all materials just today! Will start right away)
Jack Sparrow - 40% finished
Mithra - 0% Finished (Needs materials/colors)
Sailor Stars - 0% on all three
And Kairi semi-mini/Sephiroth semi-mini

I'm saying semi mini because both are fairly detailed, so I'll make a new size, I think, in between mini and average anime size. ^^ Thanks!

Oh, And regarding the Starlights, do you want them to be wearing:

http://www.prose-n-poetry.com/images/anime/sailor_starlights/Sailor_Starlights-10517.jpg - This outfit, or

http://www.wfu.edu/~gonzall/Sailor%20Moon/Sailor_Starlights-9000.jpg - This outfits?

Your choice, I'll be starting Nova dressing tonight, and Jack Sparrow should be done tonight, hopefully!

Heart Name Update - I've added Vincent, Sephiroth, Reno names onto hearts! I've got 8 hearts now - I'll take on any 5 requests at the moment! ^^

Thanks! And Wolfwood-Chan, I think only 4 - I doubt I'll have time to do KH Sora/Kairi/Riku unless I make them into my 11-inch size XD So 4 KH characters - KH2 Sora/Kairi/Riku/Roxas (Roxy is still being made/dressed)

Halfway through dressing Star-Maker, I just realized something - do you want their outfits in dark blue or black?

http://www.internationalhero.co.uk/s/sailmake.jpg - What would your friend prefer? I started with black, do you want me to continue with it or have black?

I think it's black with blue shine, but whatever you'd like. This happened before, a person wanted this color rather than that and they were minorly disappointed. ^^;

Get back to me ASAP, please =D I wanna get these comissions finished before I go back to my inventory.

Photoshoot after they're done! And yes, sorry WolfWood-San, no more comissions I don't think. ^^ And guess what, Roxas is done! He'll be in next Photoshoot!

Black all the way through. You don't have to worry about the shine or anything. But, black is the preffered color here. Not that it really matters to me, I just know she likes the black over the dark blue of the Musical outfits. Don't get me started on the Starlights, or I might never shut up.

Alright, Starlight Hearler is in progress, the other 2 are sewn and ready to be stuffed and dressed. All black, and as neat as possible. Black is often shedding the most of other colors, crimson red is horrible for shedding as well. Ah well, I'll tidy it up any fibre mess with a gentle taping treatment ^^ Thank you for your patience, Wind-Chan.

Kairi-Chan, your Semi Mini Kairi is complete, unless you'd like her shoes done as well. I do not have the right shade of pink for her shoes, the only color I have is baby pink, slightly brighter than the real color of her shoes. If you'd like it done, I'll gladly do so and won't charge extra. X_x Shoes are a nightmare to do, especially KH/KH2 shoes - thankfully Kairi, on the whole, has a simple outfit, it suits her kind and gentle nature. ne?

Your Sephiroth has not yet been started, hopefully his body will be sewn tomorrow and be ready to be stuffed and dressed the next day. Thank you as well, for your patience!

I've got a new idea for KH2 dollies that will probably be semi claimed by Wolf-Wood-chan XD

(https://www.kumoricon.org/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg82.imageshack.us%2Fimg82%2F7857%2Ftogethervi8.png&hash=5c0e14156efbb87a5c938207d60ee34ca9913663) - Whatcha all think?

Comission update:

Jack Sparrow for Shadow-Chan - Complete, needs his rum though! XD
Nova Dolly for Sasu-Chan - Complete, ready and packaged
STarlights for Wind-Chan - Healer in progress, other two ready to be stuffed and dressed.
Mithra for Seraph-Chan - Not yet started, will be once confirmed on colors and outfit.
Kairi Semi Mini and Sephiroth for Kairi-Chan - Kairi complete, unless shoes are wanted. Sephiroth is not yet started, will have body sewn and ready for stuffing/dressing by next day.

Alright! *claps hands* Thank you! <333 How is everyone doing?

Alright, Comission update! My deadline for Sephy, Starlights, and Kairi end on Saturday night. I'll be leaving my dwelling on Sunday! *So excited*

Kairi - Finishing Touches on shoes
Jack Sparrow - Paint "Rum" on the green bottle XD
Sephy - Needs to be stuffed and dressed
Starlight Maker - Needs to be dressed
Mithra - Needs to be stuffed, a few pieces sewn up, and dressed

Starlight Fighter is complete. They all look remarkably the same, Wind-Chan! The only real noticable difference in them is their criss-cross belts. In the Maker, her belts are a bit more criss-crossed than the Fighters, and Healer's is hardly. I hope you don't mind. The two I've finished so far look great next to each other.

I'll post more soon! My goal tonight is to finish Starlight Maker and stuff Sephy!

A----nd I rented 5 DVDs for 5 nights, for $5.65. Movies and coffee = perfect sewing time! Rin Rin out!

^^ Well, I hope to make alot more next convention I go to. If this is a success, I'll make another doll inventory, make even more and have a wider selection of games and anime characters. Ano, wait, if it isn't a success, I'll still make an inventory and sell them.

I could always give you my information so you can order more from me, WolfWood-San! XD *Hugs* Everyone else, I'm planning on making a few business cards. I'll comission here and there, maybe I will make a website with Leashy-Chan's help. ^^

I bet I could find you sometime before the myspace and KH Photoshot - I'll check out the times it's planned.

It looks like no Namine, Axel, KH1 trio, or the Roxas/Sora splice. Next time! I must finish the comissions, 12 Papou's, 10 heart keychains, and that's it. Before Saturday X_x

Alrighty! I'm leaving Sunday, so I really need to finish up a few things!

Sailor Stars - COMPLETE! Just, as every other doll, needs a gentle tape cleaning and they're ready for sale!

Jack Sparrow - COMPLETE! With a little green bottle with the words "Rum" painted in black on it!

Kairi - Just needs her shoes! Will be done tonight!

Sephiroth - Just needs to be dressed - will be done by morning! EDIT
: COMPLETE!!!

MIthra - Needs dressing and will be done by tomorrow night.

I'm pulling an all nighter! No working for me tomorrow, I usually do housework and painting at the other house on Tuesday and Thursday nights, and all of Saturday but my Mother is on call at the health clinic and needs to stay home.

Also, Chun-Li needs her white triangle spikes - attempt 2! First were too big! XD

Yue needs his wings, a freezer bag cover wrap rather than the 2 small sandwich bag covers.

Kamineko - needs a slight re-stitching, make it more tidier! Leashy-Chan, guess what! Totally easy to take out, but very cool = Your Scary Cat jumps around, jiggles, if you press on one of his paws! A little different thing added and easily taken out. It simply "Bounce glides" around the place! If you dont' like it, I can take it out and not know I had put it in!

Oh, and I'll need to make more Papou Fruits and Heart Chains! I've done Tidus, Zidane, Yazoo, Loz, and Kadaj as well!

Here I go! NO sleep tonight!

Post by: Catgirl Rin Rin on August 26, 2006, 09:21:28 pm
Probably tomorrow morning, I have to be up at 6 AM latest for a shower and then packing of the car. My mom is the Execute administrator at the village health clinic here and she has a business meeting on Monday in Vancouver. As it takes about a day to get there from where we live, she's leaving tomorrow early.

And she's taking me along! Dropping me off at my sister's and then it's me alone, as in having no parents! ^___^ Leashy-Chan is going to be my sister guardian! *happy cheers and hugs*

Anyways, maybe while I drip-dry after my shower, I'll take a photoshoot. I really need to finish up Mithra, I've got the top done, needs everything else X_x

Seraph-Chan, I'm going crazy all out so you can get your moneys worth XD

I found this picture with ALOT more detail on the arms - file://localhost/C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Victoria/My%20Documents/Crafts/Fabricwork/Dolls/request/dragmiles.jpg

And in this picture, it seems rather simple, the arms and leg attachment coverings - file://localhost/C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Victoria/My%20Documents/Crafts/Fabricwork/Dolls/request/mithra_rse.jpg

And then I wondered what the back of them looked like  - http://homepage1.nifty.com/fmkikaku/ff/Photo2/Mithra_G1.jpg - Check out the far left Mithra in with the white hair!

I'll get as much done tonight, after that, I may have to do him while travelling. X_x

XD I was at the hotel, room 132, floor 1! And I had an artist alley table that I was at as long as I could, and I absolutely had to be in the Glissan room to give my workshop. One was on Saturday from 3PM to 5PM and the other was on Monday 10:30AM-12:30PM

Awww, I can't believe you were there! I was looking everywhere! And I asked every Kairi I think, if they were from the forums! ;_;

Ah well, next option!

If you'd give me your mailing addresses, I'll send them to you - A nova dolly for Sephiroth and Kairi for kairi.

If you'd like me to do so, PM the addys, or in here, up to you! If you'd rather not, I'll have to find another thing to do. I'm not sure if I can make it to Sakuracon AND Kumoricon, although, just thought of the possibility, it sounds neat!

Thank you to everyone who bought my dolliessss! ^____^ I feel so loved!

Thank you, thank you, thankyou!

And guess what! I'm making a business card! <33333333333

X_X Sephy-Chan.... ?

Ah well, probably by money orders or conceal cash ^^; Canadian if possible, if not, I can easily change Amercian money to Canadian. So if you'd like your dolly sent by mail, PM me your address, and I'll give you mine. Ermm....Payment first then dolly sound alright? I've never ever sent out a dolly order before ^^

Yush, I think I'll go to Sakura con, WW-Chan! *Huggles* Oh, I absolutely loved meeting you! You were so bubbly happy! And cute, trying to eat the papou fruit.. XD

I might make doubles of every doll, maybe even more for super popular.

How does, A FF7 and a FF7AC Cloud in Sizes Mini, Anime, Super Chibi sound? XD And the same for Sora KH/KH2 and the rest of the trio and their coressponding ones?

If I do that, I may even do more, and then even reserve a set of each if I can. XD We'll see, we'll see!

I've been curious about doll making myself.
Is it an expensive hobby? xD

I haven't been here in so long XD A random event lead me to look up the Kumoricon site and then on a whim, I decided to check out the forums.

I find doll-making is an expensive hobby time wise, but for materials, it varies on what you use for materials. I use felt, thread, hotglue, needles, stuffing - the total for everything used for my most expensive doll ($25), the total is about $7. It takes about 30 hours of work though to produce a doll of 14 inches.

Felt is easy to find, easy to buy many different colors, great and doesn't need hemming. Very ideal for what I do, but doll-making can get expensive once you start to use fabrics like suedecloth and velboa.

The best of luck, it's very rewarding, making dolls. At least, I find it rewarding - it's so great to have a cosplayer pass my table, squeal and scoop up one of my creations in a hug, claiming theyd' never seen their favorite character of this certain anime/game/manga as a doll before.

 Ja!

I can definitely vouch that not only is Catgirl Rin-Rin easily the NICEST person you will ever meet anywhere in the world of conventions, but also that her workshops leave everyone smiling and happy.

I'm hoping you will also be giving 2 workshops at the Creation Station at Anime Evolution?

For KC, once you know what times you want, we should think about starting advance sign-up.

Perhaps folks such as Mistress Legato who tried last year & couldn't get a space could sign up in advance?

Love u!

Rin Rin is absolutely awesome. <333

I got my Nova months ago, and I absolutely love it.  If I make the con and you're doing a panel this year, I won't miss it again. <3
