Title: Anime blogger 'Chizumatic' has passed away..
Post by: Prinz Eugen on October 25, 2016, 09:57:59 am
Long-time anime blogger 'Chizumatic' (Steven den Beste) has passed away.

He was a detailed anime observer and reviewer, and told his readers WHY he liked or didn't like the shows or characters he was discussing.
This meant that if you had preferences opposite to his, you could reliably find shows you DID like based on reading and inverting his comments regarding that particular preference.

He wrote intelligently and in depth, and with a healthy dose of geeky humor in many places.

I hope he has found a sunny and pleasant repose.

None of those sources say what he died of. Anyone know?

One of them mentions Beaverton. Was he local?

SDB had had a stroke about 4 years back and was living with recovery and other chronic complications.
He preferred to keep his condition private, and so his family would likely also prefer their peace and privacy.

As close as I could tell from his posts and photos about ducks, geese, and beavers in the stream, he lived in an apartment
complex within an easy drive or a long walk from Uwajimaya in Beaverton.

We exchanged a handful of private e-mails over about 10 years.
