Anything like this exist in the area? If not, anyone want to start one? I'm still quite a beginner myself, but I figured it'd be a great way for a lot of people to work on costumes together and get to know each other.

I'm a beginner myself, but I would love to hang out with other people to work on cosplay and such~

Sounds like a great idea, I'm still learning how to sew but I'm a fast learner

Sweet. Where should we have it? I have a dining room table that can hold a few sewing machines but only if there's not a lot of fabric (also I'd need to get out a splitter if we have a lot of machines).
I also have a lot of fabric lying around despite not having done much with it so maybe we could do whatever with it.

I'd love to [but alas I'm in the Salem area].
The Jo Anns in Salem and Portland [SE 82nd Ave] seem to have free meeting space, so if the classrooms empty they offer groups to use it for free. :)
-
Ooh, Salem isn't that far. Well, depending on how often we have it.
-
Where would the club take place?
-
Probably a variety of places. Like switching every meeting.
How does once a month at first moving to once a week from July to con time sound to everyone?
-
i can teach how to sew to people as well been sewing since I was 7 years old

Been sewing for nearly 30 years... :) Have y'all heard of the American Sewing Guild? (http://www.asg.org). I'd thought that you had to be GOOD at sewing to join, so I waited until I considered myself "intermediate" and then found out that it's for people interested in sewing (skill level is NOT required, just interest). The local ASG group has several special interest groups that meet every month and they're awesome for learning new skills or for meeting with other people who know how to do sewing-related thing you may not know (yet). http://columbiariversewing.org/
There USED to be a Greater Portland Area Sewing Guild (I had been a member), but they dissolved. It would be fun to restart the Guild in a modified form - all we need to do is to arrange a place & time to meet and we're golden. The challenge is finding a location. Not too many people are interested in opening their homes to random people, nor are we willing to PAY to rent space to hold meetings.
If the meetings are at a convenient time/location for me, I'd be happy to help out with my sewing / fitting experience. :)

So there hasn't been a response to this thread since last December, I guess this never got off the ground. Did anybody find a place to have meetings? I know the library has rooms for meetings, but I don't know if they cost money or not. I like the Idea of Joanne's on 82nd, although, it is a bit far for me. I live in Vancouver, but basically anywhere on a MAX line will work for me.

I wish we could have gotten this together. Maybe we can make a hurried meeting for August and aim for next term!
