Please read the rules for all requirements for submittals. All long entries (greater than 10,000 words) must be submitted by August 21 to fanfiction@kumoricon.org. All other entries will be accepted until midnight, August 1st (Saturday night), and can be submitted via email or to the Programming office at con.

Rules:- Stories must be based on characters and settings from any anime, manga, Japanese video game, or Japanese musical group.
- Crossovers are allowed.
- Original characters are allowed, but must be within the setting of the chosen series/game/band and interacting with other fandom characters. (Please, no Mary Sues!)
- No completely original fiction will be accepted. Entries must be fanfiction.
- Entries must be written by the person submitting them. No submissions will be accepted by proxy. All instances of plagiarism will result in disqualification from the contest and any future fanfiction contests by Kumoricon.
- Please have someone else proofread your entry. Judges may disqualify stories with extensive grammar and spelling errors.
- Kumoricon is a family friendly convention. - Entries previously entered in any Kumoricon Fanfiction contests are not eligible
- Only completed works are allowed to be entered.
Categories:
Entries will be judged in the following categories:- Drama
- Action
- Humor
- Romance
- One-shot
- Multi-chapter
- Drabbles
Judges reserve the right to combine or create more categories as they see fit, depending on number of entries received.
Winners will be announced during Closing Ceremonies.
Submission:
- Hard copies will be accepted at the convention, in the Programming Office on the 3rd Floor, until midnight Saturday, August 31st.
- Entries should be single-spaced, with a line break between each paragraph.
- Entrants must be present at Kumoricon 2013 to win.
Submissions should be attached to an e-mail with the following information in the body of the e-mail
- Your real name
- Your pen name (optional)
- Your email address
- The title of your entry
- Rating
- Word countA brief summary of your entry
- The title(s) of the Japanese anime/manga/etc your entry is based on

Question: What is meant by the categories of "One-shot" and "Drabbles"?

A drabble is usually less than 100 words long.
A one-shot is a complete fic, not chaptered.

Question about Kumoricon's fanfiction standards: are the fanfiction contests exclusive to stories, or would poetry written from within fandoms be acceptable as well?

It should be. I think it's been before.
Anyway, I submitted a Pokémon XY fic called Answering Machine. It's already won Most Heartbreaking Scene on the Serebii awards, so I have high hopes.
Wait crap I misread the year and thought it was this year's contest.
